I totally agree, Simon is not only a master photographer he is also a master videographer/photographer instructor and a successful businessman to boot…no small feat!
“When I’m at home I might only be able to get out 2 or 3 times a week” Wow, I assumed you were out for every sunrise and sunset! I guess that eliminates my excuse that I just can’t get out enough! I now appreciate how much behind the scenes work you do!
pretty similar to our daily routine too. We usually get out 3-5 days a week for about 8-9 hours per day. Sorting, editing and culling photos is another 3-4 hours which I usually do on the off day or at night after I rest a bit and get a bite to eat. Wildlife and nature photography; you can be hot, cold, thirsty, wet, dry, laying in mud, brushing dust off your gear, wake up and be on the road before sunrise, and get home after dark many times all on the same day. I love it and wouldn't trade it for anything. After I retired from a corporate career, this is my life now and I love it. Thanks for sharing your day with us.
Simon, this is a golden video. Rarely do you see someone sharing their real life and how much work goes into the less cool things. I think that anyone who plans to get into this line of work should watch this video.
When I started photography as a hobby about half a year ago, your chanel was one of two most educating and interesting in general. Now every Sunday I wake up and go photographing birds with my friends as birds have become my favourite subject. I wish you all the best in life and work, Simon
You share so much good information and many helpful tips. However, I think your guidance to “take uncommon photos of common subjects,” is your best and most important. That’s when one truly begins to look and see as a photographer. Spectacular photos that beg for attention are great and fun. But capturing the poetry of the commonplace is the most rewarding to me.
This channel is exactly what aspiring photographers should watch. Just years and years of experience & knowledge, unbiased opinions, and a soothing voice. Thank you for the videos.
Thanks for showing what goes on behind your curtain for someone as talented and prolific a photographer and inspirational teacher as you. A lot of planning, organizing and timely execution of projects. Finally, let's not forget the passion and dedication you bring to your craft.
Great content doesn’t always make great video unless there is a lot of work behind the scenes, so I hope your viewers appreciate all that extra work you put in to make yours a premium channel globally! Really enjoyed your day in the life video!

Thank you, Simon. I've followed your channel for a long time. It's been great seeing your follower numbers grow. I'm so glad that so many others have found you. I've learned so much. I appreciate that you teach at a level that isn't so technical. You never take for granted that everyone already knows above the basics. I've never finished a tutorial asking myself, "What?" I'll continue to watch and spread the word of your channel.
Really appreciate these behind the scenes videos like this and the starting a TH-cam channel one. It's great to see what goes into it! Always enjoy your videos and your success on this platform is well deserved.
It’s amazing to see how much your persona and presentation style have evolved over time. The quality of the content has always been top notch: the topic you cover and the tons of experience, love and dedication for the subject transpire and glow throughout your videos. I love your relaxed and engaging approach. You set the bar tremendously high! Onwards and upwards!
I am enjoying your videos and learning so much (as well as continuing to be motivated and encouraged by them). It’s clear from the depth and quality of your videos, and the detailed attention you put forth toward your topics and presentation that you spend considerable time and effort to produce them. Thanks for a rare glimpse into your “world.”
I’m just a few years away from retirement. I got into bird photography about 3 years ago. It’s quite a compelling (addictive) hobby, and I spend every minute I can in nature. Good thing I’ve always been an early riser! I’ve always tried to monetize everything over the years. But, I have absolutely no desire to try and make money off my photography. No offense to others that might want to do that. I’m not particularly religious, but for me, nature photography is my respite. It’s my church. It’s my way of connecting with God. I’m not rich by any means, but this one is just for me!
Simon, you hit on a big thing that most people do not know about the Your videos we watch. I have over 150 TH-cam videos but have slowed down drastically because of how much time it takes to shoot the video, then edit it, then publish it. Thanks for making me not feel like I was spending too much time editing! Your videos are the best.
Simon, thanks for this little insights. Let me give you a very big thank you for all the content you create supporting me on my journey to become a better photographer. I enjoy that you keep on talking about making or editing photos rather then talking about camera specs. In my opinion you are the best online photo teacher. It‘s always a highlight when you post another video on youtube. Again. Thank you so much. greetings from Switzerland.

As a beginner I’m finding your channel incredibly helpful and inspirational. Also definitely need Milanote in my life!

Loved this video! I’m sure it’s been said many times but you are incredibly genuine, transparent, and to the point. This behind the scenes look was all that
Very enjoyable video. I'm in my second year of chasing red wing blackbird breath shots, thanks to you. Fortunately I live 15 minutes from an ideal wetland. Always a good way to start the day.
Whag a great insight to your day Simon. I didn't realise you have to put that much time into editing the videos, it makes me appreciate them all the more.
Simon, Thank you as always. Your videos are a delight to watch, informative and encouraging. It's obvious that you spend a great deal of time in creating these videos...not a second is wasted. Prior to this video being posted, I just had the rhetorical question in my mind about how much time you spend preparing your videos; plus, the fact that you are very consistent about posting them weekly! Further, I went back & watched some of your early videos...they have improved dramatically from your early days! Trips aside, just the videos are a full-time job! Still, I suspect that it beats all the time you spent with a desk job. Finally, one of your videos focused on getting good shots of birds, esp. when bathing & how to capture the details of the birds as they arise from the water. I've been focusing on this, esp. at a local pond where the ducks are accustomed to humans. I've captured some better shots and yesterday, I shot some better photos yet, of a Mallard Drake & a Canada Goose. As I'm going through my shots, you were at the front of my mind, just behind the wings of the birds! :) Thank you for all being such a great instructor!
One of the many reasons that I'm not a professional photographer is that I'm not willing to do what it takes to be a professional. Like getting out of bed at 4:00am. Since I'm not a professional, I don't have as many backups as I would if I were a pro. But, I do have all of my photos on my desktop computer with my photo software and on a Synology NAS with mirrored drives. Milanote looks like a great organizational tool. I would imagine that setting up and running workshops is a lot more work than you make it look. Love your videos and photos.
I was looking over my wife's shoulder as she turned the pages of the National Audubon Society's 2025 calendar that came in yesterday's mail. I recognized a photo and sure enough it was one of yours. Congratulations!
We had amazing Northern Lights here in Colorado and Wyoming. I heard they were coming, so I found your video and it really helped me to capture some photos that I've been dreaming of for a long time. I'm re-watching to help with some editing. Thanks for such a comprehensive review!
Hi Simon, I have to say that the quality of your videos has increased over the time I've been subscribed. I also love this idea of best life. I'll leave all the business negotiations to you and just keep my eye on retirement in five years so I can switch from outdoors photography every couple of weekends to whenever I want :-D
Hey Simon, I was watching your channel for quite some time. Just now I got my first gear and went out to my local botanical garden. Thanks to you, I got some shots I could be really proud of. Thanks a bunch!
That's an amazing daily routine! And could you please make a video about storing camera gear? I am quiet disturbed to find out that moisture and other things ruin lenses and cameras so I would really appreciate a video about the same. Thankyou!
Thank you for such an interesting video! It's interesting to see how you spend your days. And you've reinforced some of my thoughts on how long it takes to create videos and run a successful photography business! You continue to inspire me to get better at what I do, no matter what it is, like taking pictures of common, everyday subjects. I'm heading for my camera right now! Thanks!
Thank you for sharing. I'm fairly new to bird photography and ive been binge watching your videos and practicing with the gear ive got until i can afford a proper long-range lens. Its wild how much your advice has already helped.
Wow! Who know? You make amazing, educational, and interesting videos and I would like to thank you for all the work you put into it. Congrats on your great success too.
So nice that you shared how the “sausage is made.” It’s so easy to glamorize successful people, seeing how hard you work at everything really brings it down to earth. That app looks really slick. I’ve used Trello for a long time but Milanote looks worth trying! I get that they’re a sponsor but it looks like you really use the product. Either that or you took a lot of time to set up a demo for us!
Having been to both locaations, I'd recommend going to Churchill, Manitoba, for polar bears over Svalbard. Churchill is much easier (and inexpensive) to get to and you will see more bears. One problem -- I know you like to get on the ground for your pictures and you won't be able to do that in Churchill.
I often tell people that the biggest part of making Money in photography is knowing how to run a business. That is number 1. Concerning everyone else, it should be just about the enjoyment of nature, not some contest.
Thank you for sharing your day. And for your informative videos. I like your approach to the learning aspect of photography and have used your teachings to improve my photography.
Recently came across your channel. You are great at explaining things so we can understand. Would love to see more Lightroom editing. Looking forward to more of your videos.
Well last night in The UK we had incredible Northern Lights. I used your tips to help catch some nice photos. I even managed to get the point of inception. Cheers Simon

"Hooray". You did it! ... Interesting and inspiring for aspirants like myself. Your channels' popularity is not surprising. If we take the worlds beauty as a 'given'-- its quality seems to be handed-on from three places: We might call them... talent, hard work, and 'get up and go.' Thank you, Simon. Personally, I'm "...not sure I know that I can do it." ... (but I will certainly try)!
I just discovered your channel on Google! Wow your amazing! I wanted to be a photographer when I was young. Life happened and it kind of got pushed to the side. Watching this video made me remember my love for it. Thank you I subscribed instantly. Maybe I'll pick it up again!

As I'm going through my shots, you were at the front of my mind, just behind the wings of the birds! :) Thank you for all being such a great instructor!
Excellent and welcome!
Thanks for this it really helps put things in perspective
Thanks for the work you do.
Simon thanks for another great video. I thoroughly enjoy your weekly video. You are the best out there!
Wow, thanks
Congratulations!
haha thanks.
'Outstanding'
We had amazing Northern Lights here in Colorado and Wyoming. I heard they were coming, so I found your video and it really helped me to capture some photos that I've been dreaming of for a long time. I'm re-watching to help with some editing. Thanks for such a comprehensive review!
Glad it was helpful!
This is definitely one of the best channels on TH-cam I've seen for photography information. Cheers from Australia 👍
Thanks a bunch!
awesome!
I love seeing and hearing the red winged black birds. Here in the Adirondacks, it means spring is finally here.
That's an amazing daily routine!
And could you please make a video about storing camera gear?
I am quiet disturbed to find out that moisture and other things ruin lenses and cameras so I would really appreciate a video about the same.
Thankyou!
Thanks for the idea!
Thank you for your hard work. It shows in the quality of your images and video.
Thanks!
I love Photography and videography too.. thanks to you. I got to learn a lot from you.
Thank you for sharing. I'm fairly new to bird photography and ive been binge watching your videos and practicing with the gear ive got until i can afford a proper long-range lens. Its wild how much your advice has already helped.
Welcome aboard!
Very inspirational content. Thank you.
Loved this 'day in your life" video.
So glad!
Wow! Who know? You make amazing, educational, and interesting videos and I would like to thank you for all the work you put into it. Congrats on your great success too.
Wow, thank you!
Absolutely love this video. Really informative and interesting.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great work, Simon! Thanks for sharing your process! Appreciate what you do!
Enjoyed this one, found it really interesting! Thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
It is a great Job Simon... even with all that. Thank you for all you do.
Your videos are always informative and calm, i love it!
I love every minute of your videos and time you give us...Thanks very much!!!
So nice of you
So nice that you shared how the “sausage is made.” It’s so easy to glamorize successful people, seeing how hard you work at everything really brings it down to earth. That app looks really slick. I’ve used Trello for a long time but Milanote looks worth trying! I get that they’re a sponsor but it looks like you really use the product. Either that or you took a lot of time to set up a demo for us!
Just watching a day in your life is exhausting but it makes me want to get off my retired backside and go out and be productive.
Yesterday, I captured a bluethroat bird using a macro lens. Today, I saw the stunning bird you photographed and learned a lot from it, thanks
That is awesome!
That is one issue with Churchill that’s less attractive for me.
You make it look easy.
I often tell people that the biggest part of making Money in photography is knowing how to run a business. That is number 1. Concerning everyone else, it should be just about the enjoyment of nature, not some contest.
One of your best videos! Thank you for the insights...
I very much enjoy your up-tempo presentation of high level useful information. Great stuff.
Thank you for sharing your day. And for your informative videos. I like your approach to the learning aspect of photography and have used your teachings to improve my photography.
My pleasure!
Recently came across your channel. You are great at explaining things so we can understand. Would love to see more Lightroom editing. Looking forward to more of your videos.
I've learned alot from you.. God bless you
Glad to hear that
Great video. Friendly and professional. Things done well look easy but seldom are! Thank-you
Well last night in The UK we had incredible Northern Lights. I used your tips to help catch some nice photos. I even managed to get the point of inception. Cheers Simon
Fingers crossed it’s back tonight, I missed it
@@mvp_kryptonite I think it is. I went for iso 320 at 15 seconds f4 and it worked a treat. But you may not see it with tour eye...rather looks like streaks in the sky
Fantastic!
Could you please make a video explaining memory cards and the different types and speeds etc.
You sir are awesome 👍 and your shots are magnificent 💖 Keep living your dream ✌
Thank you, I will
Yet another hugely enjoyable video in your channel. Amazing photos! My favourite is "lots of ducks" at 4:19 - just stunning!
"Hooray". You did it! ... Interesting and inspiring for aspirants like myself. Your channels' popularity is not surprising.
If we take the worlds beauty as a 'given'-- its quality seems to be handed-on from three places:
We might call them... talent, hard work, and 'get up and go.'
Thank you, Simon.
Personally, I'm "...not sure I know that I can do it." ... (but I will certainly try)!
You are a model. Thank you for this very good video. Merci beaucoup
De rien!
Yes this is beautiful life.
I just discovered your channel on Google! Wow your amazing! I wanted to be a photographer when I was young. Life happened and it kind of got pushed to the side. Watching this video made me remember my love for it. Thank you I subscribed instantly. Maybe I'll pick it up again!
Thanks for the tour of your day!
That was great to watch Simon!
