While it was amazing to see the PS2 continue to receive games in 2008 and beyond, I always felt that after Carbon every PS2 version of NFS was less and less polished even if compared to the PSP or Wii versions.
PSP NFS after Carbon is definitely less polished than PS2 ones. While Wii was just Gamecube 2.0 it did have some upgrades to make games look more polished, but at core they're the same
Nah I actually liked it was a great game tbh was sad they took drag racing away now I'm not sure tho cause for ps3 growing up it was awesome still looks good just hated the urine filter but the ps2 version doesn't even seem the same
Fun stuff, past-gen version was supposed to be a lazy refurbished port made from the Most Wanted and Carbon assets, but turns out it was actually not bad thanks to those great games in it's core. Next gen version however was so raw, janky and unrecognizable, it became the worst Blackbox NFS game despite much bigger budget, better technology and ProStreet experience. Summary: if it works, don't break it.
Ngl, I still prefer the PS2/Wii versions. Those feel much closer to the games before this than Blackbox's version, and I'm not talking about the reused layout on some parts.
Yeah it was genuinely fun to play, and i like how it looks too. Nicer than Carbon even. Map is mirorrored so it doesnt feel the same, even few bits that arent(camden reused bit) have so drasticly different scenery and details to most wanted that it looks like new area. It also has that nice tropical/miami vibe that PC version doesnt have at all, music playing all the time is nice too. On PC it never played in freeroam, and there was no real main menu even. It even has EA Trax. I just wish they readded Most Wanted's upgrade system, because way Carbon messed up majority of the cars is still felt quite a bit.
I originally owned it only on PS2 and it wasn’t until like 10yrs after that I bought it on XB360, I absolutely hated it on the newer gen. Better graphics or not the gameplay was much better on PS2 (probably biased from playing it first)

There's definitely something wrong with the intro sequence of the PS2 version shown at the start of the video. There should be black fade-ins and fade-outs between shots, and the logo should have black background. Bad emulator config, probably. Especially at 0:14 you can see the road not loading on time- you shouldn't normally be able to see that, because the screen would be black.
Its all better for it. Main release is so unfinished and fails to mimic what worked in MW05 and Carbon that its beyond pathetic. Map is also incredibly unfinsihed. Highways and majority of scenery look like brown mounds of fecal matter with no trees or vegetation or any detail that sattelite map shows. PS2 is colorful and pleasant to look at.
Am I the only one who actually likes the over bloom, over bright orange aesthetic of the pc/ps3/360 version? I honestly think it looks fine. Every mod that gets rid of this effect makes the game look too bland flat.
same here. the bloom and orange aesthetic is the reason i love this game. idk but that orangish bloom makes the game feel very warm and cozy, idk if that makes sense but it makes me feel right at home when i play in the original graphics. Although the bloom could be too much for me sometimes, but thankfully the generic fix for Undercover reduces bloom.
I played the PS2 version years ago thinking that it would be a striped down version of the normal game, and holy cow... that game looks like a "port" made by GeoMatrix (the guys that "converted" GTA Vice City into GTA VI in the same week that the trailer was released). The map is a flipped and reorganized version of Rockport, the graphics are ugly, UI is ugly, the soundtrack lacks some songs, and the game overall feels like something not official. At least the split screen chase mode is really fun, but I think that Hot Pursuit 2 is better at it. In summary, I don't think they should done this port.

The only thing that disturbes me is the interface of the Ps3 and pc version. The Wii and Ps2 version are not very original but the interface is good. Even if they copied it from Carbon, it was good. But the soundtrack was one of the best Ive ever heard in the NFS series.
You can see they copy everything from the ps2 carbon port to undercovers ps2 port and just copy and past the police radio and different map which aint in the ps3.
Barely a second in the intro and EA already lied through their teeth, EA Black Box had nothing to do with the PS2 version of Undercover it was developed by Exient Entertainment. They already have their hands full developing Undercover in less than a year timeframe on PS3, Xbox 360. and PC. Despite I quite liked the unique style and look of the game and easily have the best licensed soundtrack of any NFS game, it was obviously one of the buggiest NFS game ever especially on PS2 and PC. PS3 Xbox 360 versions were plagued by uneven difficulty, pre patch it was confusingly easy game while post patch it was too damn difficult and simply unfair in some races you can't win until the game's AI intentionally let you win after few dozen retries of them taking corners at over 200 mph and no collisions can slow them down.
The ps2 had a pivotal role for Sony in the first 2, maybe 3 yrs of the PS3 launch, the PS3 consoles weren't selling as well as the wii or the 360, the PSP still was very expensive and didn't had a great library (at the time) , so it was obvious that Sony would milk the PS2 as much as they could and some great games came at that time like god of war 2, persona 4 and odin sphere.
Ive played this game on my phone emulator and on my playstation 2 right now but both have difference graphics difference as i use my hdmi on my ps2 and upscale to 1080i thats the max the ps2 can handle other wise from tv resolution it self, so the ps2 undercover is quite different. There would have been so much more if the game wasnt rushed trust me i had a family member as a dev working on this game probably no one would beleive me but they weren't tend to use the nfs most wanted map and mix it they had a bigger map that was unfinished until they reached the deadline didnt have a chance to fix bugs or anything of the sort.the ps2 undercover would have looked just like the one on the ps3 but they had little to work with, with that deadline so they had no choice but to use most wanted map and mix it up to release the game quickly.
I have a PS2, as well as this game. I didn't remember the game looking THAT rough, so I loaded it up and sure enough, it's still doesn't look amazing, but it looks a hell of a lot better than this video. This some emulator bs with fkd up settings.
PS2 and PS3 editions are entirely different games, Black Box developed the PS3 edition and Exient Entertainment developed the PS2 edition, a lot these fans never understand these days
The PS2 port of NFS undercover felt like a lot like nfsmw2005. Some of the location were almost based on it. And I've always felt that the PS2 port had something missing.
Undercover on PS2 was one of the worst ports possible, they literally just took NFSMW and reskinned it. The last game in the series with a decent Port on PS2 was ProStreet, even with some graphical cuts the game included all the circuits and competitions, but with Undercover they did not bother to dedicate time and effort, delivering a terrible game
quality for port on the the PS2 whas crap. Map whas ported from Most Wanted sligdy edited , missions had a lot of bugs , graphics and textures are worse than in Carbon, but because this game is based on the same engine as Carbon, only with a different skin and map, it also has the same pleasant driving model that I completed this version on a PS2 emulator. The PC version drove me crazy with this huge bloom and the driving model...
gameplay wise, i heavily prefer the ps2/wii versions the pc/360/ps3 versions for graphics and car list i just wish they didnt decrease the amount of money you get from races after completing them in all versions

Только есть одно НО: Да, не спорю, карта взята из NFS Most Wanted и была слегка переделана, но сам код игры вытащили из NFS Carbon и на нём же и сделали порт.
Watching videos of old raciing games really puts into perspective that Nissan seriously manufactured the same generation of 370Z from a time when they were still releasing PS2 games through the year of the COVID-19 pandemic lol. And the 370Z isn't even the most insane example. Nissan was selling the same generation of Frontier from 2005 to 2021 and the GT-R from 2007 to present, 2024 as of this comment. The Dodge Challenger could give them a run for their money on longest generation of one modern sports car, though.

the thing that kept me from finishing the PS2 version wasn't the graphics or anything like that, it was the fact you could only accelerate by pressing the X button and there was no way to change the button input in the options. Why did they ditch the right analog stick acceleration to just be able to turn the camera? That's pretty stupid, all the other NFS games on PS2 had right analog acceleration

This doesn’t look bad. I suggest going back to underground and seeing how it looks like on PS2 and not the spruced up 4K emulator.

The vanilla PS3 originally had many slowdowns, they had to make a patch to remove many effects like the reflections on tarmac and some bloom lighting.

Watching videos of old raciing games really puts into perspective that Nissan seriously manufactured the same generation of 370Z from a time when they were still releasing PS2 games through the year of the COVID-19 pandemic lol.
And the 370Z isn't even the most insane example. Nissan was selling the same generation of Frontier from 2005 to 2021 and the GT-R from 2007 to present, 2024 as of this comment. The Dodge Challenger could give them a run for their money on longest generation of one modern sports car, though.

Ps2 nfs Undercover was shit. It was worth to be playing on ps3 or pc.Even though I give a medium rating on this game.

the thing that kept me from finishing the PS2 version wasn't the graphics or anything like that, it was the fact you could only accelerate by pressing the X button and there was no way to change the button input in the options. Why did they ditch the right analog stick acceleration to just be able to turn the camera? That's pretty stupid, all the other NFS games on PS2 had right analog acceleration
