@@DoVe_7 i can't complain, I grew up with this game and like it a lot because of that, so i actually enjoy seeing more people play it and their reaction to the jankiness, yours was a surprising one
Surprisingly, when I played this as a kid, I really had a lot of frenetic fun with this game, it also sticks out in memory for being the first game I completed at 100%, no real achivement, but as a kid it felt good having completed everything in a perfect way

The AI doesn't normally stop on the PS2, so this may be due to the emulator. Also, I actually realized how the AI of the police officers in the game changes a lot. If you don't have any heat level, not much is born. If you have a heat level of 3 - 6, they'll act like they're chasing you, even if you're just racing or driving around at a leisurely pace. Simply, the higher your heat level, the more aggressive they are. You won't notice until they're not after you. Because if they're not after you, but you have a high heat level, they'll start going at the speed of light and crashing to everything they see (even into each other). And yes, sometimes they do hit you, and the chase is on.
Man undercover ps2 development history is something cool to read about And if ya do youll kinda see it would have kinda ended like hot persuit if the devs had more time And the handling is quite fun
back as a child when I got undercover for ps2 I was super irritated that the ps3 version appeared to look and be so much better. Little did I know that the ps2 version is actually better 😂
There are a few things hidden, there is a playable 370Z only in multiplayer, there is busting racers with Police cars, the last 3 cars LP640,CCX and Zonda F have limited customization(shame they didn't had time to finished them properly). Also it has proper EA TRAX so you can choose what songs you like to listen, unlike the PC/PS3/XBOX360 versions.
So you are telling me I couldn't customize my CCX because of lack of time during development ?? I always wondered why it was so limited, and after like 15 years I finally know 🤣🤣
@@pollo1340 Its because those are bonus cars from NFS Carbon and never were meant to be customized. Murcielago could use normal murcielagos bodykits and spoilers tho. What i see as a missed opportunity was adding ps2 ProStreet cars liek e46 m3, Evo X or R35 gtr.
Old gen Undercover takes carbon engine and MW map remixing it to give a miami vibe. For me that's more than enough to make a good game. It's very unpolished and some bugs make it almost unplayable at times and rubberbanding is atrocious, but it's still better than next gen Undercover. What worked in the previous games still works here. Also I really enjoy police chases, it's almost impossible to get busted. Losing them is another story, though
It has no filter at all. It dies maketge background black and white in the end race screen, but ingame its just vivid without any ugly filter like Carbon and Most wanted had
Most Wanted without the filter is painfully blueish, unless its a sunset. I personally preffer ps2 undercover. It just looks pleasant and vibrant in the right amounts
Honestly, i didn't grow up with the PS2 version, but with the Wii one. Genuenly love that game, and i love doing long chases with the police. Wii/PS2 Undercover i feel is kinda underrated
Pretty much if you enjoyed most wanted but preferred the customization system of carbon and don’t mind a lot of bugs(not as many as the PS3 and PC oddly). Undercover for PS2 is the game for you.
For me, NFS Undercover on PS2 and Wii by the rating of it's driving physics, is the BEST in the Franchise. You got the tuning and all from Carbon but without the horrible car class system. From driving it's Most Wanted but with all and only the positive Improvements from Carbon. Because of that, the Miami setting and it's quick completion time (I rock this down casually in like 8hrs max with 100%) I often find myself starting the Wii up again and doing another run on it. I love it, it's horrible. But for me, I put it above 2010 Pursuit and Payback, maybe even Heat, within the franchise.
I played it on the ps2 first when I was a kid, I really enjoyed it back then, after that I got the pc version, and I was very disappointed, it's not just the unnecessary graphics effects, it's the handling there's something about it that I didn't really like. I don't remember experiencing bugs, maybe the ps2 emulator is the cause.
The game , whether the PS2/Wii or the PS3/X360/PC versions ,is one of my favourite NFS games I have seen and played in my life.I don't care what people say about most of these games. I love to play them!!!!!
The PS2 version is both nostalgic as it was the first NFS I ever completed (so I am a bit biased here) but yes before even watching the video the PS2 version is truly a hidden gem and I honestly think its one of the best racing games I have ever played
The other racer AI freezing in place is most likely an issue with the emulator because i have and play on the original ps2 and they dont freeze. Other issues like random framerate drops happen rarely and the outrun event glitch where they go in the wrong direction also happens on the original ps2.
Yo thank you for covering this game I remember playing it when I was 8 years old with my younger brother we would play cops and robbers mode and do a little bit of racing as well those were fun times yes the game does have its flaws here and there but I still enjoyed it as child and now as a 22 year old adult. Thank you 🙃👍 Edit: I also played the PS3 version of the game and I got to say it was alright as well despite some stuff missing from the PS2 Version.
I remember finishing career mode on less than 2:30 hs as a kid... man... I liked this game, even with it's MAJOR BUGS. I'm still a high stakes ps1 enjoyee still...
Back when I was a kid I never aware that they have PC / PS3 version, the PS2 version is the definite version for me. Fast forward I got my first laptop and download lots of games including NFS U PC version. Little did I know that I have more fun playing the PS2 version, it's so bad that it's entertaining and fun.
This was my childhood game, in fact, the very first game i played when i got ps2 for the first time. The game is so glitchy and broken, but it's fun. However, there's only one broken aspect in this game that literally makes me fear for life. When you're on a high heat level, and the police cars have turned into a Porsche 911, i don't even think God can save you from those devilish spawn of hell.
7:03 Oh no, it's Big Rigs all over again 😭😭😭 Lmfaooooo I never thought I'd ever see that same type of glitch in a Triple A title, ESPECIALLY in NFS no less. Good catch
omg that Porsche Unleashed theme hit me with nostalgia! also i had this on the Wii, and i had a lot of fun with it growing up cause of how similar it was to most wanted and carbon.
There's a lot of issues you described that are probably emulator related. I had the game day one, a surprise gift of my mom after seing the add on TV the same day (yeah I know, very cool). I was already a fan of NFS, and getting the PS2 one was so good. For the popping, even though I don't remember it as a kid, I know that it can be disc/drive related. I had to re-buy one copy because my disc was so scratched, the environment couldn't even load when I was driving at 400km/h on the highway. Buying a new copy solved that. Broken A.I : I confirm, they are stupid and buggy, but it's not that big of a deal, it doesn't happen very much (not in my 8-10 years of playing). The cops are hard af : true, but if you're good enough, you can send them to crash, and by playing buldozer like (aka driving through them), you can easily get away. Visually : for me, aside from some popping, the game is one of the most beautiful ones, but playing it on emulator and LCD doesn't help. Playing it on original hardware + CRT make it look gorgeous. I was so disappointed when I bought the PS3 version, because I thought it was the same game in HD... Oh lord.. Anyway, very nice video !
I actually 100%ed Wii version last year, and except for the insane rubberbanding I actually enjoyed it. My 6yo me loved this game in its own way, and my 21yo still enjoys it :) Btw, did you know Test Drive Unlimited 1 has also got a different version in PS2/PSP than the one in PC/X360? And it's actually great! Quite different to the OG one. It definitely would be great to show it on a video. Cheers, man.
Theres a funny glitch in the copycat Most Wanted bridged jump where if you hit the wall at the end and keep spamming the reset buttom you can go out of bounds, theres nothing on the other side but still a funny glitch
I actually went & played the entirety of this version (& even mastered the entire Retroachievements set) because you found it enjoyable. Even tho it was frustrating at times (especially with the ridiculous rubberbanding the AI has on Outrun & Highway battle events) & rough around the edges, I still gotta thank you for recommending this!
i got this game when it came out. i mustve been like 9-10. i never knew that this was different to the next gen versions. I really enjoyed it on my ps2, didnt feel like a shitty knock off or anything. I do remember coming back to that game when i got into uni and seeing it was a completely different experience hahah. I defs prefer this version
This game was one of my favourite to play when i was a kid, but something akways felt kinda off about it, i didnt know what it was, and i was too young so i didnt know english at the time, i remember recognizing a lot of the map and stuff from most wanted to i started wondering if it was a prequel or a sequel or something? this game made my imagination go wild, specially after the cutscenes, ive created so many stories in my head trying to connect it to most wanted, like there being an earthquake or something to justify the long highways and stuff, i really genuinely had fun with this game as a kid and its nice to see someome saying wnything positive about it
One of my favourite games ever! Now, if you change to manual gearbox from the settings, things will get interesting for sure! I've beat this game multiple times with the Camaro SS, It can go really fast even on the lower gears. (PB 120km/h 1st gear)
Some discord group i was in, they were going to take the ps2 version of undercovers assets & port it to carbon on pc (They managed to get the skybox to work / fonts & stuff like that, frontend platform changed) but that was like years ago i dont know if the mod is still around & Turns out the police a.i is severely broken , something that carbon had, it was put on 0.0 on undercover ps2 somehow
for those that want to play this version of undercover play on the wii instead it looks a little better, it runs a little better and on their lets say "deluxe consoles" its easier to set up also the rubberband is toned down a LOT in the wii version
Wii version has no slowdowns when emulated.(it also has unique splitscreen to up to 4 players, while PS2 has only 2 player splitscreen. Main release doesnt gave it at all)
the memories of childhood :) this one is my first nfs ever and yes i played it on PS2 - there surely are some enjoyable moments that i still vividly remember. Like one of'em was making Dodge Viper to go over 300mph. I know all the stuff about this game and no surprise. I still love it tho :)
Ngl this was the undercover I played and I enjoyed it to the fullest, especially the songs, Especially Piedras vs tanques by ojos de brujo, but the thing I found strange was the place, they used, I never knew that was mw after watching the videos because back then I played undercover before mw which is quite sad but anyways they had a lot of similarities based on the video I watched, I could recall some places I raced through back in 2012 while playing the game, but the one that caught my attention was the hospital jump, I remember vividly But nonetheless I enjoyed undercover on PS2 so much
When i was a kid i used to skip school to play ps2 Undercover One thing i remember is the insanely broken rubberband they come back from 2km and pass you and the CCX was broken asf
I just finished recently on good old ps2 and I experienced all the issues you pointed out. My controller was bad which made the game annoying, especially with the cops because if you miss your chance to escape, you'll have to wait so long to get another one. The worst thing about this game for me is the poor framerate and graphics, I couldn't play this game for too long because I got legit sick from doing so. The gameplay is good tho, I like how it doesn't get grindy in the end like most wanted.
What I do hate, is that we didn't get a finished version of this game, i feel that we would be taking about it a lot more if it were more like his 2 other siblings.
having played this version of the game enough on release to have developed tendonitis from it, I can confirm that all bugs and glitches you experienced in the emulator (in this video at least) are also in the console version.
I remember gettint this game for christmas when i was 8 or 9. Was first very disappointed with the graphics, but it was alot of fun. But finished the whole game in 2 days, so was a very short one
Lol i finished this game 3 times as a kid ,and i was pissed of because i could get the superchargers to pop in the hood .... than years later i found some configurations in the game 😅
I played almost every nfs but underground 1-2 were amazing most wanted and carbon took it to the next level especially they both had the BMW m3 gtr even nfs pro street was awesome and nfs undercover for ps2 was amazing cars were amazing better then ps3 but I never understood why the BMW m3 gtr was in the ps3 version not ps2 I never understood that
Considering that NFS Undercover had a lot more going on than UG2 in terms of an open world game, I can absolutely forgive it looking worse, especially since it was a budget last gen port done by a random ass team
Im currently playing through the PS3 version now! Nearly completed my first play through in wellnover a decade and sadly turns out I never played it on my new at the time PSN account so just unlocking trophies now and will never get that platinum..
Yea it's bad but it's bad to the point you can just have a nice laugh out of it while modern games are just plain bad with zero laughter from how bad they are
i never had a ps2 in my life but i’ve played it for the wii and i don’t care much about the graphics but some of the cars i never got to play in career mode like camaro concept, porche gt2, pangini zonda F, and the ccx not usable in career in carbon except quick race aka collectors edition which is so fucking stupid but in this version of undercover i can use those cars which is so awesome plus i still have my wii and the game itself i play it almost everyday it’s so much fun i’ll never stop playing this game oh just the top so you people know if you ever run low on cash even tho you finished career mode select a cop car just grind for cash that’s what i do if i’m low on cash even tho now in my career mode i have about 908,536 and i own almost some of the fast cars in the game sometimes i might start a new career if i’m that bored but that’s just me but over all on a scale of 1/10 for this version of undercover i’d give it a 10/10 no cap
I remember buying this game day1 when it released for the PS2 back when I was a kid, it made me to never again buy a game on release. What a waste of 40€
If you did not play Nfs Most Wanted 2012 it would be a nice one. I believe you can make a lot of stuff in this game, all kinds of jumps and stunts. It may be interesting to see 😂
I played this game on ps2 back then cause i couldnt afford a ps3 i was a teenager in a poor family after all and i thought its great but everyone said its trash. Then like 10 years later i bought the ps3 version and i couldnt enjoy it at all.
so... i went into this video because i thought the two versions (Wii and PS2) were the same, but the Wii version, despite having the broken 911 cover car, has a way better AI. Yes, they are a little stupid, but through my run of the game on original hardware, they were not as dumb as in this game, teleported less and didn't rubberband in plain sight, the takedown missions however, were broken, as the AI takes almost no damage, even against a Challenger (wich i bought specifically for ramming them) doing constant T-bones into them. And no, i didn't know about 5:25 (call me lucky if this was a rare case) An exploit to easily avoid rubberbandy cop chases: go to the bridge that would be locked in Most Wanted (the one from the final cutscene), they always come to a stop before the jump and there's a cooldown spot in the part where they stop following. But make sure your tires are safe, because except for the later 4WD cars, they will not have enough speed with blown tires
I think this is the first video with a title that mentions Undercover, PS2 and Enjoyable in the same phrase, surprising change of pace.
I mean maybe I'm weird for it but I did actually enjoy it haha

Ngl this was the undercover I played and I enjoyed it to the fullest, especially the songs, Especially Piedras vs tanques by ojos de brujo, but the thing I found strange was the place, they used, I never knew that was mw after watching the videos because back then I played undercover before mw which is quite sad but anyways they had a lot of similarities based on the video I watched, I could recall some places I raced through back in 2012 while playing the game, but the one that caught my attention was the hospital jump, I remember vividly
But nonetheless I enjoyed undercover on PS2 so much
One thing I vividly remember is if you get caught by the cops they take your car I lost so many cars as a kid playing this game 😂
this game was my childhood and I tried to play it on pc and just then I realised the PS2 game is completely different version 😮
OH MY GOD ! Someone finally make a review of an unknown game i played on the wii as a kid
When i was a kid i used to skip school to play ps2 Undercover
One thing i remember is the insanely broken rubberband they come back from 2km and pass you and the CCX was broken asf
When you do outrun or highway battle just wait till the time less 1 minutes then ai will start not goes like godspeed to chase you back,
I just finished recently on good old ps2 and I experienced all the issues you pointed out.
PS2/Wii version of nfs undercover should have add r35 or some other cars from prostreet ps2 cars😢
Got a copy of it for PS2 greatest hits version at Five Below in 2013
ahhh nostalgia. my first nfs game
I recently got my hands on a PSP and a copy of Undercover and i gotta say it kinda slaps tbh.
I played the PSP version on an emulator and in tought it was an okay game
When glitches are features... Man, I almost want to play this game just to experience Undercover.EXE
What I do hate, is that we didn't get a finished version of this game, i feel that we would be taking about it a lot more if it were more like his 2 other siblings.
I love this version of Undercover more than PC/PS3/Xbox 360 version.
Nice thanks for sneaking the NFS2 intro in there😅
it's not bad game, I love NFSUD so much.
having played this version of the game enough on release to have developed tendonitis from it, I can confirm that all bugs and glitches you experienced in the emulator (in this video at least) are also in the console version.
i grew up on the ps3 and xbox version and im just now trying the ps2 one and im in disbelief!
I remember gettint this game for christmas when i was 8 or 9. Was first very disappointed with the graphics, but it was alot of fun. But finished the whole game in 2 days, so was a very short one
Played a lot of undercover back in the day. Pretty fun. Btw what where you guys longest Police chase? Mine was 40min
Lol i finished this game 3 times as a kid ,and i was pissed of because i could get the superchargers to pop in the hood .... than years later i found some configurations in the game 😅
I think it's best on psp. Feels like it belongs on the psp as a handheld game rather than a home console game
I wished someone could fixing this Game for the PS2 using some Assets from Underground 2, Most Wanted (2005) & Carbon
6:56 accelerated back hopping, but for cars.
This game is glitchy as hell sure, but its more or less just Most Wanted but on crack I love it
This game and Heat had a very similar vibe
Undercover ps2 version is my second favourite nfs after most wanted.
Well, at least it's not like PSP version, which was... a thing
That version is best left forgotten
That version is just a reskin of Carbon OTC but with a rather new map, just like how this PS2 Port of UC is basically a Carbon reskin
@@nikohpgaming2569 if I recall correctly, which is over 10 years ago, PSP version of undercover didn't even have free roam, which Carbon OTC had
After the flop of prostreet psp being made in-house and released in 2008
EA put piranha games on developing Undercover
This game is so funny with its errors, nice one mate
Im currently playing through the PS3 version now! Nearly completed my first play through in wellnover a decade and sadly turns out I never played it on my new at the time PSN account so just unlocking trophies now and will never get that platinum..
It’s cool to see someone enjoy this, but holy crap I hate this version of undercover. Even as a kid I felt like this was honest garbage
Yea it's bad but it's bad to the point you can just have a nice laugh out of it while modern games are just plain bad with zero laughter from how bad they are
This reminds me of Sonic Unwiished Sonic Unleashed
Thats not even rubberband, thats literal transportation jutsu 😂
i never had a ps2 in my life but i’ve played it for the wii and i don’t care much about the graphics but some of the cars i never got to play in career mode like camaro concept, porche gt2, pangini zonda F, and the ccx not usable in career in carbon except quick race aka collectors edition which is so fucking stupid but in this version of undercover i can use those cars which is so awesome plus i still have my wii and the game itself i play it almost everyday it’s so much fun i’ll never stop playing this game oh just the top so you people know if you ever run low on cash even tho you finished career mode select a cop car just grind for cash that’s what i do if i’m low on cash even tho now in my career mode i have about 908,536 and i own almost some of the fast cars in the game sometimes i might start a new career if i’m that bored but that’s just me but over all on a scale of 1/10 for this version of undercover i’d give it a 10/10 no cap
I remember buying this game day1 when it released for the PS2 back when I was a kid, it made me to never again buy a game on release. What a waste of 40€
I never played undercover or pro street. I'm very interested in it 🙂
pro street is awesome but undercover can be a pain in the ass
I got prove my NFS undercover has 1st 100% in my life
I remember racing like a 600 700 km
/h 372mph 434mph and the same for the AI LOL
If you did not play Nfs Most Wanted 2012 it would be a nice one. I believe you can make a lot of stuff in this game, all kinds of jumps and stunts. It may be interesting to see 😂
I played this game on ps2 back then cause i couldnt afford a ps3 i was a teenager in a poor family after all and i thought its great but everyone said its trash. Then like 10 years later i bought the ps3 version and i couldnt enjoy it at all.
I will say repeatedly that I prefer the intro of the PS2 version to the PS3 and 360 versions. Hell I’m sure most prefer a Gallardo to the 350z
I might get held at gunpoint for this but...
I think Undercover is a great game.
This game may be the definition of "GOOFY AHH" yet somehow it's the fun kind of goofy
so... i went into this video because i thought the two versions (Wii and PS2) were the same, but the Wii version, despite having the broken 911 cover car, has a way better AI. And no, i didn't know about 5:25
(call me lucky if this was a rare case)
An exploit to easily avoid rubberbandy cop chases: go to the bridge that would be locked in Most Wanted (the one from the final cutscene), they always come to a stop before the jump and there's a cooldown spot in the part where they stop following. But make sure your tires are safe, because except for the later 4WD cars, they will not have enough speed with blown tires
When I was younger, I thought the graphics were better XD
To be honest NFS Pro Street in PS2 was more fun
Because hardware not beefy enough, it got turn down
Never seen footage of that version , is it the same or also different like this one?
@@DoVe_7 It same but really turn down
Like PS3 use 8 cars (1 player and 7 AI Players) while PS2 only use 4 cars at race (1 player and 3 AI players)
@@DoVe_7 Or some Rims was not properly render in PS2 version
But the PS3 versions AI is way too easy for most of the game, there where only a few races where the AI actually could keep up with me
@@markdebruyn1212 Ohh every NFS had rubberband issue 🫠
