This! Maybe because of the quality of their early recordings, but it does seem like Thom had a tendency of landing sharp on the notes, later on he's much more spot on
what I love about this video is seeing the progression from him singing it thinly, to singing it strong with sing-screaming effort, to singing it just as strongly just effortlessly.
That’s what a good singer who takes care of his voice and never settles for mediocrity looks like. He’ll be able to hit those notes for a good while longer at this pace.
even though creep lacks the techniques they used in later albums, it's still one of their best songs since it successfully delivers the rawness of youth emotions not only with thom's scream but with fast paced distorted guitar strumming by jonny.
2001.. the crowd singing, jonnys guitar, thoms power voice... definitely my favourite, so much energy coming through.. like can you imagine being there? screaming your lungs out FUCK i wish i couldve been there
@@raph2954 And then it was probably written even before that... I read/heard from somewhere that it was based on a girl Thom liked at University - so it's roots go further back...
Listen to how much more effortless and in tune he is now on that high note after the long gap from 2009-2016. I would guess that he changed his approach to that bit and started singing it in a full, rich head voice (or mix some would call it) rather than belting and the performance is all the better for it. Thom’s head voice has always been one of his greatest strengths to begin with and it’s wonderful to hear him play to that strength in this song rather than forcing his chest voice up to the note like he did as a younger man.
I’m kinda under the impression that ever since they brought it back in 2016, on the second “run” he goes falsetto so that he doesn’t have to kill himself and crack like he did in 2009. I could be wrong, 2017 sounded pretty strong from start to finish
Yeah. Its like, part of me wishes he would drop it a note to keep the energy of it. I dont know if my vocal chords will be holding up well in 35 years either.
In 2009, his voice was probably worse than it is now since he wasn't sober back then, also I think the Reading Festival was just kind of an off-night for him too.
You can tell that in 2017 he has to resort to using a bit of falsetto to do the last bit, but that's a pretty fucking spectacular run of 23 years since 1993 hitting the final notes with full chest voice. I think also doing a three year run of AMSP shows probably also wrecked some havoc at his age.
I think 2017 is my favourite. I love how his voice weeds off like he’s given up, fitting the songs theme pretty damn well if it was a somewhat worse attempt at the bridge (assuming so anyway)
1993: Thom's voice is absolutely stunning but looks like an idiot 1994 - 1996: Coolest rock star ever 1997 - 2009: Thom being himself 2010 - now: Old Thom
Wow surprisingly consistent even in the later ones it sounds practically identical. Most singers especially rock ones lose a lot of that range when they’re older after all the years of touring but he’s still able to hit it perfectly.
OmFG. Its a privalege to say i have seen those incredible makers of wonderful music live a couple times in my sad simple life. Just an unbelievable assembly of musical talent to witness. Chills down my spine watching this video...
The entire pinkpop concert was thom at his vocal technique peak, although now he knows how to control his voice better to fit the message he wants to convey
They don't really "hate" it, they just got really tired of it around the OKC era cos they didn't want to be defined by the song. Proof of the band not really hating it is the fact that they played it very often in their latest concerts.
@@tutorialeshtmlprod yeah I think people exagerate over the fact that they hate the song lol but is pretty obvious that they are tired of it lol the pretty obvious thing for me at least is that they hate Pablo Honey Hahaha and you can notice it in their tracklist for their concerts.... just pretty recently they added more songs for that album but after lots of years....
