4:23MP is looking for safety and it's really bad to play MM beats, just compare it. Those hi hats at the beginning are the signature of Portnoy and much of the Dream Theater theater sound, but it's not something that I loved especially on this song. Makes the song sound stumbled
I implore anyone dissing the founding member of the band to post their 100% note accurate cover of mangini’s parts. And yes that means ambidextrous because that is how it was recorded.
My favorite song of all time with At wit's end the vibe the Power before the madness of COVID. This album is thematically well fitted in that place. James totally nailed It. Amazing backing vocals from John, would be amazing If Mike did too but It was awesome to see them all unbelievable

I think he changed it on purpose , even night terror he did not play as the studio version . He mentioned few times in interviews that he does not like to o play the parts exactly like original every time ...
Focus on how his playing grabs each instrument in a different manner, we as people listen for things to sound the same. Otherwise, " oh, that's not the right part" which is not correct, it's how he perceives it. I'm sure Mike didn't study this song particularly, they need to really get comfortable live again, before he delves into material he wasn't apart of writing.... they have literally played 3 shows since returning, relax❤️
I would pay a million folds to hear MP's version of Enemy Inside and The Alien.
I would add Bridges In The Sky, At Wit's End and Pale Blue Dot to this listing
So freaking cool to see Mike play Mike's parts, never thought I'd see this tbh

Now let's rest this debate of Mangini versus Portnoy. Both are a GOAT in their own area.
