Dear Dream Theater please consider finding a background singer to support James. This way, James can focus on the mid and low tones, while for the high parts, he could sing the lower harmony. Other bands do this too.
So like, how bad does it have to be before the band recognizes it? Lol. Or have they just agreed “ehhh, however bad James gets, we are just going to ignore it.” For gods sake, if you’re going to play Metropolis, it should be downtuned a full step at this stage of their career. Or if they are adamant about not downturning songs, at least open with something easier to sing like A Nightmare to Remember or In the Presence of Enemies.
It's simplier than that. In their ear plugs, they (MP, JM, JR, JP) have instrumental mixes of the music they're playing. So they dont' hear JLB at all !!! Pretty easy to ignore the bad singing.
For all the people saying "how couldn't they hear JLB singing so badly" ? The answer is pretty simple. They (MP, JM, JP; JR) got in their ear-plugs instrumental version of the music they're playing. So they don't hear him AT ALL !
@@gabrielfelix7892 That’s the point. He is 61, and he is struggling. I’m not complaining, just feeling sorry for him and his voice. They need a younger vocalist. I’m sure there’s a lot of work in the band besides singing.
Replacing him isn’t really much of an option, but at the very least they can use some strategy to make him sound his best by either downtuning the songs or ignoring the early 90s stuff that’s really tough to sing.
@@jayg339 there's no amount of downtuning that can help him. Look at Bon Jovi. They downtune very drastically and he still can't hit the notes. Labrie is done. His voice is shot. Right now they need to get a new vocalist that can hit the notes of the songs people love. This can be the beginning of a HUGE problem for dream theater if they don't fix this and FAST.
What did he say? “Welcome we have a big, big show, a long, long show…” I wonder what was he thinking about when he said that, given the way he said that. This is the prize you pay for being stubborn. What I am about to say will be even more rude, but seriously man, an amateur doing karaoke in his wedding party sounds better than you do at this point. It’s painful man! And to think that Dominici (RIP) was still having a powerful and interesting voice even at the end of his career. So, Mike is back, and James is still in, I wonder what the heck are this guys doing finally!??
LaBrie sounds OK on the second song (minor vocal adaptations but still in tune)… Metropolis is damn hard to sing and I think they should downtune this whole concert start.
As a long-time DT fan, James used to be my favorite band member, but unfortunately, in recent years, I can hardly listen to him anymore; it's very difficult for me. I don't understand why they’re still keeping him in the band. Does he have a mortgage or some other financial burden that he has to pay off, and that’s why they’re keeping him? Even Portnoy hinted at it back in the day, suggesting that he wasn’t at his best. If everyone is in agreement on this, why is it still happening? Hey, James, if you have payments or financial situations, as DT fans, we're ready to support you. Take care of yourself:D
if i was in that band i'd probably say something, these are suppose to be top PRO musicians and when his voice sounds this shit the band should speak up and help the guy out

They used tape for backgrounds extensively on the Astonishing tour

They are family. They don’t care what we think.
I mean the even decided standard tuning lol. Not many people can sing that song as is. 😅

My ears! Has James ever sounded as awful? He's out of tune about 75% of the time.

They need to tune down a half a step or more. especially live. James is no spring chicken anymore. Also with current health problems it would help.

About James Labrie: The sound inside TH-cam is very poor. He sings well live even with little natural limitations.
