  • Dogs are active animals and injuries are inevitable. However, it can be difficult to determine whether your dog has a muscle strain or a joint injury. In this video, we will explain the difference between the two and show you how to identify each one.
We will start by discussing the anatomy of muscles and joints in dogs and how they can become injured. We will then explain the symptoms of muscle strains and joint injuries, as well as demonstrate some tests you can perform to help diagnose your dog's condition. We will also discuss treatment options for each type of injury, including rest, physical therapy, and medication.
If you suspect your dog may have a muscle strain or joint injury, it's important to seek veterinary care as soon as possible. He is a HANDSOME GSP!!! Our dog was fine and then at some point today, she hurt her front leg and CRIIIIIES OUT in a shrieking whale when she tried to come in the house, when she tried to get on the couch AND out of the blue when she accidentally moved her injured leg.
She’s never had ANY issue at all in the past. She’s 4 years old. Anatolian Pyrenees. 75 pounds. ❤

My dog has shoulder muscle strain, I think! It comes and goes. Should he not be walked at all? He’s 11 months. That would be very hard 😢

Does a ligament injury show up in an x-ray?

  • @AintThatRich

My dog started limping about 10 days ago, within 2-3 days he seemed fine but with exercise and a vet trip/jumping into and out of car, his limp is back. Vet barely checked his leg but said come back in 2 weeks and if it persists we will xray? I’m worried that’s a month since it first appeared.. I would hate any lasting damage to remain or to worsen treatment outcomes by delaying?

so my 11 lb min pin is nearing 17. up until last year he loved sprinting his entire life home from long walks, about a half block. the other thing he did most of his life is grab and shake his bed (while standing on it) to 'attack' the ups/fedex/mail deliverer. we thought it was funny but trained him out of doing it with a muzzle about 5+ years ago. well we think that strain over his life has caught up to him. first he got the limp on the front right leg. then it would heal, and come back a year later. then it got to where he can no longer sit up last year, he rolls backward and sits lazy when trying. i can feel the warm spot between his shoulders which i started icing for 20 mins yesterday when he was whiimpering trying to get comfortable. he got an xray from the vet which showed a little arthritis a few months ago in the shoulder and lower back. vet said she could feel he had pain in his tricep, but why can't he sit? i just think there is something else going on like the illiopsoas issue you mention in another video but not sure. i have him doing aqua therapy which is amazing, he bounces around after that but nothing i do has helped him sit properly again. it is absolutely heartbreaking watching him suffer now which is now daily. he's in perfect health otherwise. i'm thinking about an ultrasound but ran across your videos, subscribed and wondered if there was any suggestions you had? i can't find anything on dog not being able to sit anymore.

My dog got out the other day we don't know what happened but I took him to the vet yesterday and he has inflammation on his hind leg but along with that he keeps having a spasm on one of his front leg is that common with an injury or inflammation? The spasm makes him scream and he looks like he's in pain he had an xray yesterday and didn't have any broken bones

Thanks, its been about 3 weeks now, after watching this, i'm confident its a joint or ligament thing, its just very hard to tell, she shows no signs of pain other than limping on her front leg, i know she slipped on the tiles as i heard the thud, and she was lying on her back waging her tail when it happenend, then got up limping, been limping ever since, but mainly when she walks, she can run fine??? But you can massage her leg, as hard as a human, and nothing, no reaction, it seems to have function and streangth, until she walks on it, if anything it seems a little stiff when you flex it back and forth, definatly need a trip to the vet.

@@isisromero3172 hi yes! It was just a muscle strain, takes about 6 weeks to heal properly, just rest/anti inflamitary meds, and we did laser therapy, just 2 sessions to help heal quicker, hopefully its the same outcome for you!

How long do grade 2 Sprains and Strains take to heal? I have a senior dog and it's been 2 weeks and he's moving a lot better than he was the first few days but he's still lame sometimes on his back leg but he doesn't hold his leg up or anything and I don't hear any cracking whenever he walks so I don't think it's a ACL

When my dog tore his ligament on his first leg because it wasn’t fully torn he seemed to look fine walking however if he was lied down for a long time and get up he would lift his leg or limp with his second leg when that went recently he fully tore it so he found it difficult to walk his leg was constantly of the ground

I've only had my dog Smeagle, a Beagle for 1 year and he is 10 years old. All of a sudden he's finding it difficult to put weight on his front left leg. Only LAST week we were walking and he was MOVING pretty good. I had a bit of a hard time keeping up with him. Keep in mind he's NEVER walked this fast with me and never shown signs of injury. He wanted to get home to eat and he was on a mission to get back and quick. Mind you, he is a bit overweight. Maybe 10 lbs.

My dog's left foreleg has some problem and he is limping. I took him to the vet and the vet agreed with me that it was the left foreleg that has some problem. And then, the vet gave the X ray to his right foreleg! Yes, that's the nightmare I ever met.
