Tons of snow, and the snow did NOT melt between storms. This means in curbs, lawns, anywhere that wasn't shoveled or plowed, the snow, ever Winter, stacked up to one foot, two feet, three feet, four feet. Then, one year it suddenly changed, and never changed back. All of a sudden, our climate started being like how the climate of NYC had always been, where it snows, it melts, it snows again, it melts, etc. Winters became tremendously tame compared to how they had ALWAYS been. They changed, and never changed back. And other changes happened too, like hailstorms with high winds that blow through on cold fronts, during Spring and Fall, which hadn't been a thing in the past. It seems to me that during the period between the death of Christopher Hitchens and the rise of Trump that a lot of new atheists moved hard to the right for some reason. I guess many of the "young angry white guys" who found a purpose in a embracing atheism were deep down simply attracted to a notion of white western cultural superiority that can be associated with the enlightenment. And unfortunately that sort of thinking has a bigoted underbelly which has been brought to the forefront by Trump and the alt right.
I remember a flat earther came onto my campus and set up his booth for a public debate forum. While I’m not a flat earther, your line of argumentation was futile and the flat earther’s response was appropriate. People lie for any number of reasons. For money, fame, to avoid responsibility, to spare people’s feelings, heck some people lie compulsively. They legitimately cannot stop themselves. Jordan Petersenl logic: "99% of [climate] scientists aren't 'serious' (by my obscure, mumbled argument), therefore you must take my (non-[climate-]scientist) word over theirs instead."
Pretty sure the argument came across loud and clear. The pareto distribution dictates the square root of the total individuals in any creative endeavor and will produce half the output. I've modeled this in my computer science classes years ago. If you have 100 people with a quarter and 10 dollars, and they each play eachother in a quarter toss, if an individual wins they get a dollar, and if they lose they give up a dollar. If you run this iteration so they all play each other 50 times, 10 people will end up with all the money. You can argue with this point all you want, but idk why you'd take this political pundit's word or your own over a clinician's while arguing we should take a climate scientists word over jordan petersons. Even the examples brought up that supposedly prove peterson wrong, are still pointing to the fact the majority of output is produced by the minority. If you lookup how many family farms make most of the money, its 101,265 family farms, while the remaining 2 million make less than half the money. "Well here's an example where it's not exactly 80-20", right but a minority still produce the majority of the output. Which would still suggest a minority of scientists produce the majority of valuable output. You're just arguing to argue. "The pareto principle is a libertarian talking point" says the political pundit with no scientific endeavors under their belt. This video is comical.
I was being sarcastic 😭😭 but someone said that conservatives just call anything they don't like or agree as being "woke".. And apparently anytime something goes wrong it's DEI to blame.. 😒
This guy just said 99% of the people working in science are not serious. How can anyone take him seriously? The amount of air you would need to have between your ears could fit a human sized brain in there. Main character syndrome makes him think that just like him there are only a few others out there who know the REAL truth and do the REAL science. Most people like him don't understand that science isn't covered in Eureka moments on the daily. It is built on the painstaking work of peers in and outside your field and is a process. To diminish the work of 99% of people in any given industry is insane let alone science being the one that requires heavy dependence on your peers.
The degree to which a scientist is published in peer reviewed journals, and then cited by others in his/her field, is the gold standard of disciplinary excellence. Peterson has been cited for his research extensively.
@@truthstarved and? His expertise in his field might be relevant to those people citing his papers. What does that have to do with his take on climate science? @@rocdaroc Hey I got my thesis published, it's in a climate related field. Are you going to listen to me when I tell you Peterson is full of shit on the topic, or were those just words?
I know that since Peterson has absolutely, undoubtedly, unquestionably talked with many reputable scientists who agree that the climate emergency is bullshit, he’ll have absolutely no issue telling us who these reputable men and women of science are. I just know it.
Well if you observed the COVID situation, you'd see what happened to doctors who went against the establishment narrative without anonymity. I think it's a pretty nuanced subject. I think climate change is real, I'm personally not convinced that it's being affected by human activity and I'd say the research that I've read that alleges it's caused by human activity is pretty weak. MAYBE it is affected by human activity, but when that's being utilised by the richest people on the planet to make themselves richer and essentially turn people like Bill Gates into Demi-Gods who can personally control the life outcomes for billions of people, it makes people extremely sceptical of the whole thing. Bill Gates for example had HUGE global influence over the Pandemic situation (the man is not a doctor and has no medical experience) and now he's taking up huge influence in global farming and energy, in line with this climate agenda that he funds the research for. So surely you can appreciate why people are reluctant to buy into it.
As a Brit, I fucking love it when JP uses the word "bloody". It sounds so worng and overly intended, where here in England it is the most casual word that doesn't in any way carry the weight Jordan seems to think it does 😅
In Canada "bloody" was still almost a curse word when I was a kid. We knew Brits said "Bloody well right" all the time thanks to Supertramp, so it wasn't rude to sing along or use it in impressions, but if you said something like "you're bloody wrong about that, Jordan" it would have been, well, bloody rude. By the 90s people stopped saying it altogether, especially after The Simpsons made it acceptable to say "hell" & "ass" in front of your parents (thanks America, lol). Now "bloody" just sounds like the rantings of an out of touch blowhard/grifter, & reminds me of other boomer exasperations from my childhood like "For Pete's sake!" or "Heavens to Mergatroid!" which no one says anymore (not even boomers).
@@unseen_stranger this topic is so interesting to me. my canadian mom says bloody and for pete's sake, she just kind of uses them as emphasis instead of swearing. but jordan comes across as trying to sound more intimidating or bring to mind an image violence that doesn't exist 😂 but he just ends up sounding like a polite lady lol

@@vincentvangogh8092 To be honest that is a bit of an exaggeration. It's not just common but absolutely expected for an expert to have difficulties explaining their expertise to a layman. Those who need to be able to explain it to children are teachers. That requires people skills. Researchers and scientists in general don't need that, they need to be able to understand the thing themselves and publish papers that others in the field can understand, peer review and explain it to others down the line. Experts need to be good at what they do, not necessarily at teaching others. Here's the thing though: jargon is not a stylistic choice. Experts use it in order to more reliably communicate amongst themselves. Peterson tries to emulate it merely to appear more intelligent than he is. He has been exposed to actually intelligent people and as a, I assume and give him too much credit considering what I know of him today, formerly intelligent person himself he makes use of an expanded vocabulary to obfuscate the points he's making in hopes that his interlocutors give up on trying to keep up with his mish-mash of ideas and just nod their heads at what he's saying. My point: Jordan Peterson cosplays as an intellectual. Whether he truly is one or was one at some point in the past is irrelevant. He costumes himself and his language so that superficially he appears to others who have no idea what he's talking about like an actually knowledgeable person. For others maybe it feels right to have someone vomit so much verbal diarrhea on them that they legit get dizzy and agree with whatever it is he's saying, but for me personally hearing a sentence that could be reduced to maybe 5 words turned into 5 paragraphs of thesaurus thumbing exercise into time wasting is tiring, and I'm not exactly the best at exercising the spirit of "brevity is the soul of wit" myself if it's not apparent already. Tl;dr: Jordan Peterson likes to disguise himself as a smart guy by using a thick vocabulary book and picking the synonym of every word he utters so as to seem more astute when he just sounds like an ass, trying his best at farting Beethoven's 5th to appear grandiose and important but failing miserably to any but the most enthusiastic of fart-enjoyers. Listening to Jordan Peterson is sincerely nauseating and infuriating at the same time.

Scientists cannot predict the climate but they can decipher the causes of more complex phenomena such as global warming, of course. It takes more research, tools and evidence to get there.
Consensus in science is as rare as unicorns. Scientists have incentive to NOT agree with each other. I was completely flabbergasted when he said that consensus is worthless. Also, if he's actually read the IPCC report, I will eat my shoe. The IPCC absolutely has outlined, over and over again, how dire the situation is.

worse than that. Laws in science are all mathematical equations. Science has a hard rule that no theory can go to law outside of mathematical concepts that have been proven mathematically. That's why gravity is still a theory, even though you can just jump to demonstrate it.
Not really sure. From what I know he was asked to renew his license by following a course on social media etiquette and stop making some of the supercontroversial remarks that he does. Because he was reeled in by The Daily Wire at the time, not only did he not need the finances of holding on to his license and actively practice his profession anymore because The Daily Wire would be more than enough, he now could also use that request for his license renewal and the course on social media etiquette and weaponize it against "the woke left". He could now portray himself as being attacked, and turn himself into a victim by not adhering to the request and appear like a brave fighter against the "social injustice practiced against me for speaking the truth."
its worse than that, the university he was at didn't even fire him, he finally quit himself a couple years ago. Last summer his appeal against taking 'professional media courses' was thrown out and its been limbo ever since.
Nah they can't revoke his licence without a full disciplinary hearing. The CPO/ICRC are obliged to follow their protocol. The SCERP (training) came out of the ICRC Risk Assessment Analysis, of the situation as it was circa June 2022. They'd have to do another assessment/analysis in order to get a disciplinary hearing as a recommended outcome now.......and they can't do THAT until they establish for sure that he is not going to attend the SCERP. He hasn't made that clear yet. Even then - disciplinary isn't a foregone conclusion as an outcome. I don't think the ICRC/CPO are too keen to make a martyr out of him, frankly. There is an interesting little sidenote. He received the ICRC decision re the SCERP late November 2022. *But THEN an Anti-SLAPP was filed against him in December 2022 - by Laurier University* Oops. That's not good for the free speech warrior narrative. A potential spanner in the works. Publicity was ZERO - but maybe a diversion would be good......... So, January 2023 he filed for a Judicial Review of the ICRC decision/SCERP - and made a lot of noise. Did he have a chance of this going in his favour? Nope. But, interestingly *he made 100% sure he would NOT win* Not only did he admit in writing to the court that he has a 'problem', he also *deliberately scuppered his own defence!* It's all in the judgement: 'Peterson v. College of Psychologists of Ontario, 2023 ONSC 4685 DIVISIONAL COURT FILE NO.: 714/22' He crowd funded his costs for all this, too, btw. He lost the JR, obvs. He then filed for an appeal - a completely hopeless gesture. It was refused. But, by that time, his Anti-SLAPP situation was resolved - he'd done a deal. Job's a good un. He continues to stir up controversy make lots of noise in an attempt to enhance that entirely undeserved reputation of his - while evidence to the contrary gets quietly buried. The first 11 years I lived here, Winters were always severe.
I am 44 and I know for me, seeing climate change with my eyes has just been an obvious pattern

Actually! During one of his very early interviews he mentions his therapist won’t increase his dosage and he wants it. So he spends a ton of money to find a therapist that, on the first day, asked him how big of a prescription he wanted and Jordan asked for TRIPLING his benzos.
Tripling. On the first session… after asking him how high of a dose he wanted….
Just to be clear, psychologists don't prescribe.
I have studied political economy for 20 years, and Petersons comments on economics border on psychotic
When did Peterson become a climate scientist? What a 🤡
He became one when he didn't do any climate science, because according to him, paradoxically, when you do science, you stop being a legitimate scientist.
Thank you ! he should stick to philosophy, but I’m not sure most scholars disagree with him on his take on Nietzsche.

I cant remember who it was but someone once said if you cant eplainit to a child you dont know your subject. Anyone that uses word salad is just a fake
I think he's gotten Economist Syndrome in which you go into another field you're barely involved in, give your two cents, don't listen to the actual experts, then leave.

And if you want to place blame, it can’t just be on Trudeau. It has to be on the entirety of the government over all of the provinces. In Alberta, both conservatives and NDP have cut firefighting budgets over the years. Every single government party is to blame.

Jordan Peterson told the University of Toronto many years ago that his work did not require peer review. He's had the ego problem for a long time.
Jordan has big "My Uncle works at nintendo" energy with his "there are totally lots of good scientists that agree with me you just cant see them."
"You wouldn't know them they go to a different school in Canada"

Ah... The big money lies in climate science😂
Who believes JP? How stupid do you have to be?
As someone who is part of the science community this guy saying that a scientific consensus is not worth much shows how much of a joke he is. If he has ever been to any sort of scientific discussion he would know that scientists can’t agree on much, and if they are agreeing on this, people should probably listen. What a clown
@@FishDinners that's not true, consensus is quite common lol

In the same way some medical professionals have been speaking about Hilary Cass' ridiculous report on transgender healthcare and pointing out how ridiculous it is that she as a single person was allowed to make such a report, for everyone in medical care knowing that you do not leave this up to one person due to the big risk of getting influenced...

There are no "laws" in social science, only the physical sciences.
In other words, people ain't rocks.
Although some are as dumb as rocks.
So say _you_ ! I rock! Many people rock!
Nobody sits like this rock sits. You rock, rock. The rock just sits and is. You show us how to just sit here and that's what we need.
i love that he continuously attributes things to these hard-and-fast "laws" of social science while also adopting the "facts don't care about your feelings" aesthetic from his Daily Wire puppetmaster
worse than that. Laws in science are all mathematical equations. Science has a hard rule that no theory can go to law outside of mathematical concepts that have been proven mathematically. That's why gravity is still a theory, even though you can just jump to demonstrate it.

I swear I was making a sandwich and didn't realize it went back to actual Jordan 😂
Didn't they revoke his psychology credentials? Figures that he would be the pinnacle of mental health in MAGA land.
*But THEN an Anti-SLAPP was filed against him in December 2022 - by Laurier University*
Oops.
Nope. But, interestingly *he made 100% sure he would NOT win*
Not only did he admit in writing to the court that he has a 'problem', he also *deliberately scuppered his own defence!*
It's all in the judgement:
'Peterson v. College of Psychologists of Ontario, 2023 ONSC 4685 DIVISIONAL COURT FILE NO.: 714/22'
He crowd funded his costs for all this, too, btw.

He didn't want to be a tenured professor any more than he wants to be a licenced clinical psychologist!
He might like the title but tenure is not without responsibility/expectations.
