No body ever could write play and sing like Jim Croce. And when you hear a contest for the best guitar player ever, remember if it doesn't have Maury Muhelheisen in the mix ,it's not real. Maury was one of the best ever to play the instrument.
Yeah really, ain't TH-cam great ? Of course there are copyright issues but they could be sorted out, I would be happy to pay. Time in a bottle, are we lucky or what ?
Still working on his fingerpicking style. Almost there but never will be. Thanks for letting me spend my freetime practicing your songs note for note. Fingers hurt but its worth it! Thanks Jim and Maury.
I was 15 years old the year they were taken. I started playing guitar a year before that I listen to Maury. Night and day I wore those records out I later became a studio musician in Nashville play in that same style of guitar for song writers I loved their sound.
Jim and Maury were just so talented and worked so good as this awesome duo. Jim sings about every day life and people that he sees - what a talent that is to enable to do this. I know how he felt hugging the toilet bowl 😂😂😂. Thank you for sharing this, I was real young when Jim and Maury passed but you know what they say ‘good things never die’..❤❤❤
My teenage daughter loves Jim Croce. I made sure she grew up listening to him, among others. I asked why the smarter, more thoughtful kids dont listen to him. They're just not interested.
I learned all of Croce’s songs on my 6 and 12 string guitars. I played his music everywhere I went. I loved his music. I look around at today’s music and there’s not one singer with the talent, humor and uniqueness of Jim Croce. I was so sad when I learned of his loss. And I thought of all the heartfelt and real music we will never hear from him again. I looked him up on wiki and learned the pilot had just ran part of 3 miles between the airport and a motel and because he had a serious heart problem the plane carrying Croce, Maury Muehleisen and several others crashed into a tree at the end of a runway. The weather was perfect with unlimited visibility so the cause of the crash was probably the result of the pilot dying while taking off. We think of all the ifs in our lives and we could think of all the ifs that lead to Jim Croce’s death. What if the pilot didn’t make that run. What if the pilot knew he wasn’t well and another pilot flew that plane that night. Imagine all the wonderful music we could still be listening to. Jim’s wife Ingrid opened a restaurant or club in LA and called it Croce’s. I always wanted to go there but it closed before I could make it. She must be a wonderful person.
I remember on a Friday in September 73 no internet at a high school dance it spread that Jim Croce had passed away I remember that day like it was yesterday god bless your family ❤️🙏🙏
Thank you for posting this video to TH-cam! It's hard to believe, but he and Maury died over 48 years ago now. I fell in love with Jim Croce and his music when I was just a child. I was only 11 years old when he passed away, but his music has shaped my life ever since I first heard it. True story, my older sister got the "You Don't Mess Around With Jim" album and would play it all the time. I would hear the first notes of "Operator" and would come barreling into our shared bedroom, hyped up to hear what I thought was the song, "My Maria". At first I was bummed out to have been tricked, but after awhile Jim's songs grew on me. He is still my favorite artist, ever! Thank you for sharing this video with the world!
Loving the footage...! I thought there was nothing better than listening to his records but seeing his facial expressions & listening to him speak leaves me in awe....
It's a real shame that the Music Industry didn't take care of Jim like that should have. As good as Jim was writing this great masterpieces, he was barely getting by and had to work do menial labor jobs in between tours just to pay the bills.
One of the greatest song writers of all time! No one could translate a song as well as Jim. They said Rose Mary Clooney had the art of transcending to the audience with captivation just by looking into the camera. Jim was gifted with talented. R.I.P.
Tuned in for some classic singer songwriter vibes and hit on a mellow moment or two with Jim lallygagging with some 'friends' of an audience - great stuff. Easy to see why he looked so happy doing his thing right up to the unfortunate abbreviated end.
loosing both of these great talents at the same time in the trees they lived together on the road and in the air and died together how we miss them.... operator thank u for connecting us again
The Roller Derby story is hilarious, especially the stuff about Ripple."You drink two bottles of it, too, and, like, 14 million years of evolution go vuuuo, right down on all fours,, you know, some kind of No. 3 on the Darwin chart, just pointing and grinning." Starts at 2:52.
I have always been a fan of Jim Croce! He was the whole package rolled up together. He not only had his own sound and style but he was a writer also! I still feel the loss after all these years.
David Bowie shirt at 9:27, just interesting to think about how different David and Jim were in music stylings and yet they were both on the charts then. Today it seems that whatever style is in vogue, every musician tries to sound just like it. Don't know who to blame; the musicians, the studio bosses, or the simple minds of todays music audience. Maybe its me, perhaps I wasn't able to adapt as pop music evolved. I remember in 1973 when the adults said that our music lacked talent and meaning and that it was just sensationalizing drugs. Hmmmm?....
TY Ingrid for your man he was taken from us before his days were done would love to seen his career in the eighties or even late seventies woulda been one worlds best.. Go Jim..
A real gem indeed, flawless performance, both are great, Jim Croce and Maury Muehleisen, watch Maury also, he is so cool. The understated elegance of his playing is hypnotic. The immortal Jim Croce, it would be wonderful if somebody digs up all this footage, restores it and makes a proper big screen movie .
It is crazy that this only has 705 views... Jim was a visionary and a great all around artist once in a life time. Amazing talent!! being Italian'o helps as well
he can sing a song like one more time so eloquently yet the substance so profound a melody of heartache and lessons learned leaving you with a smile mesmerizing to think my broken heart dances in rain.... 73.... just like time in a bottle I was born shortly after bit close my eyes not I'm there
If there are fruit flavors for ice cream like mango or strawberries, Maury is to Jim Croce's music. He helped define Jim's sound. He should also get some credits.
I just thought the company recording label who cheated Jim were gone into ashes. They got what they deserve. And Jim's music lives on. But Jim's concert were all his.
Hey, I loved him like all his fans but I did notice that in the audience in this you’ll see a white tee-shirt written in black block lettering the name of another of my fave musical artists David Bowie!
yea i agree with everything everyone else wrote and more....and how cool to hear him talking to the audience..can't count how many times i did simular stuff, when playing music...but wow this is so cool
I've always felt Jim should have revised the words in the first song ('A Woman Like You'). The music is sweet but the words are harsh. There's a mismatch, to my mind . . .
James Neilson Graham I think the mismatch may have been on purpose... showing the way the woman in the song misrepresented herself to him / relationship. Coming on sweet and beautiful and being anything but~ Just how I read into it... the man was pure and genius.
First song musically very good. I do not like the words of the song. Depressing and accusatory. Peter Huttlinger has 2 good instructional dvds on learning the finger picking songs. I recommend.
Agreed about 'A Woman Like You'. There's an awkward disconnect between the suave, harmonious music and the vindictive words. What is the lady supposed to have done? The music calls for sentiment, maybe irony, for the germ of a story. The one-dimensional textual idea calls for a gritty blues maybe. Now 'Hit the road, Jack', there's harshness with an appropriate musical vehicle. Having said that, Jim Croce is still a treasure . . .
People that don't get the meaning of 'Next time, this time' usually don't know the stories of Jim and Ingrid's time together. The song is not intended to have a universal meaning.
I have always been a fan of Jim Croce! He was the whole package rolled up together. He not only had his own sound and style but he was a writer also! I still feel the loss after all these years.
Of all the people I wish that we could have kept I wish that we could have kept Jim and Maury.
Jim Croce is in the Songwriters Hall of Fame and should be in the Rock "N " Roll Hall Of Fame
He was never a rocker. That’s not his style whatsoever.
I really believe that Croce could've been a great standup comedian. He had such a natural rapport with his audience and they loved him.
No body ever could write play and sing like Jim Croce. And when you hear a contest for the best guitar player ever, remember if it doesn't have Maury Muhelheisen in the mix ,it's not real.
Maury was one of the best ever to play the instrument.
Amen! :)
And he was so young!
This is a rare treat. Thank God for TH-cam. You get to relive so many precious moments in life through music.
Yeah really, ain't TH-cam great ? Of course there are copyright issues but they could be sorted out, I would be happy to pay. Time in a bottle, are we lucky or what ?
I am a huge Jim Croce fan but it would not sound the same without Maury...what a great duo!
Still working on his fingerpicking style. Almost there but never will be. Thanks for letting me spend my freetime practicing your songs note for note. Fingers hurt but its worth it! Thanks Jim and Maury.
At 14 years old, I cut my teeth on jim, started to finger pick...fifty years ago...still going
Man, just beautiful. Jim and Maury are masters of their art !
My favorite guitar duo of all time!!!
Thank u Dad for influencing me in '70s music. I will always miss u Dad. ✌
I was 15 years old the year they were taken. I started playing guitar a year before that I listen to Maury. Night and day I wore those records out I later became a studio musician in Nashville play in that same style of guitar for song writers I loved their sound.
Perhaps the most sincere writer of our time. Every song bares his soul, his humor and his romantic passion. Lifelong fan.
Well said!
Agree

Two of the most underrated and greatest musician’s ever I will always miss them.
He was certainly "One of a Kind"
🎶🎤🎸🎸

Rest in Peace Maury 🙏🏼🕯️🙏🏼 1949-1973

Guy had talent from end to end. Write it and sing it, and make it look easy. True talent.
I learned all of Croce’s songs on my 6 and 12 string guitars. I played his music everywhere I went. I loved his music. 🥀Amazing Song and stories! Thanks for posting this video it's priceless and unbelievable but incredible🥀☝️💝🥀

that line about being built like a refrigerator with a head is about the funniest thing I've heard in a song.

He was a great comic too!! Brilliant
I know all this man's songs. On the guitar. But I never knew Croce was such a hilarious person! Thank you for this video!!!
BEAUTIFUL.
The original "Storytellers" RIP Jim
Music would not be the same today had he had lived.
No joke, it could honestly be my Grandparents he is talking about. My Grandmother was Roller Derby Girl and My Grandfather was a Marine.
Roller Derby meets You Don't Mess Around With Jim! This is wonderful!
if there's a rock n roll heaven, you know they got a helluva band.
Great to hear Jim talking. Thank you.
Wow, Jim is such a funny, interesting person. A great storyteller. ❤
It's a real shame that the Music Industry didn't take care of Jim like that should have. As good as Jim was writing this great masterpieces, he was barely getting by and had to work do menial labor jobs in between tours just to pay the bills.
I honestly think he was right on the cusp of celebrity status at his death.
After all the years he was finally getting the recognition he deserved. Then he got killed. What a shame!
he quit music alltogether. Only got back into it because he was backing Maury as Maury's lead guitarist... so kudos to Maury
This seemed like a perfect venue for them. They seem so smooth and relaxed.
Its amazing to hear him talking and setting up RDQ this is just the best thing ever!!
I bought the music to this RDQ at 14 and learned it and I still play it!
One of the greatest song writers of his time, sadly his like ended in a tragic accident.
I was grow up with his songs...Jim Croce...👏🏻🪴🧍🏻🌞

a genius musician...
of a different world kind of genius..
His biggest albums are "Don't Mess With Jim " and "I Got A Name " certified Gold
I have always been a fan of Jim Croce! He was the whole package rolled up together. He not only had his own sound and style but he was a writer also! I still feel the loss after all these years.
You said that. lol. I had to check again to make sure I wasn't seeing double.
VERY TALENTED MUSICIAN.....RIP JIM

I think this is where James Taylor got the idea for You've got a friend in me.
Amo essa música
I've never heard this one before. Could have used it 10 years ago.
We only heard the upper crust on the radio and even TV. Gotta dig deep and listen to all his stuff.
Not only a very talented musician, but he had a great rapport with his audience.
Truly authentic and unique all at once. Sadly, One less set of footsteps...
Alf was with him at this concert
This sounds most like his son than the rest of his music
i am a filipino and this year present.i realy like and love the song ..your husband inspired me ..thank you Ingrid.
Lodiiiiiiii Jim !
Love them!
All her buddies called her spike

Elvis sound-a-like. "Thank You", "Thank You, Very Much"
Bach would be proud
Paul Thorn is about as close as Jim as a storyteller/songwriter as you can get. If you aren't familiar with him, check out his stuff here on TH-cam.
