I LOVE how you show pics of the previous model year to compare to the new one. So often when watching other videos when they mention a change I always want to SEE the difference. Great job. I leased a 2019 Jetta SEL and it was a great car. It was comfortable, had great torque, and had decent tech for a 2019 and it got great gas mileage.
I own a 2019 Jetta and all the things you said remain true. It's a super fun to drive and I get great mileage.
I like my interior more than the updated one here. Seems like VW was trying to hard to "refresh" when it wasn't really necessary.
I just recently bought a new 2024 GLI Autobahn with a manual because my VW sales guy, as I had asked, called me when he thought that the last Jetta with a six-speed was out. When I hear now that VW will still produce a manual in the 2025 GLI, I feel a bit duped. But seeing the 2024 GLI next to the 2025, I am very happy with my purchase. I am a "young Gen Xer" who loves manuals and hates needless tech. The new one looks sleek, but I am not no sleek.
Loving the new front end. Red bumper trim in the GLI is tastefully done. Would have been nice if VW ditched the exhaust tip-emulating bumper detailing in the regular models though. More work should have been done to better integrate the infotainment screen too.
The old infotainment system that is integrated into the dashboard looks way better. But other than that, great refresh.
That is a good-looking sedan. Solid choice in the segment.
Looks MUCH better. No ugly big grill and lips
Now it looks like Mk.6.5 Jetta!
100% disagree.
@@williamstevenson8518 100% disagree with your disagreement.
Agree about the resemblance to the MK6.5: this is what the evolution should have been. Very sleek-- and finally priced/packaged competitively...
Ugh they got rid of the AC knobs. Will auto makers just fking stop doing that.
So agreed, I have a 2024 Jetta and I'm glad it has physical knobs and buttons. I like the front styling of my 2024 more than 2025, but the back of 2025 is slightly better.
Cheaper to make compared to normal knobs.
That's my biggest gripe. Everything is touch now.
@@semba_9676 Doesn't matter. How much cost do knobs add, especially considering that this will still have a separate climate control panel?
@@macaron3141592653 knobs / buttons are way more expensive to build & manufacture & design compered to a normal plastic touch capable panel
When it comes to VW, the longer they run a model without major changes, the more reliable it gets, which is a VERY good thing. People who bought a late year 2.5 will attest to that. The Jetta seems to be a solid option in the class and the GLI is a car too many people sleep on.
That blue MK4 in the back of the group photo, 🤤.
I had a Mk4 Golf (related) with a 2.0 4 cylinder engine, and it was a good car minus the electrical issues and A/C failures.
@@damilolaakanniI had a chipped Mk4 TDI. Loved it in spite of the broken window regulator, power mirror, two steering racks, and two fuel pumps. May have forgotten a thing or two.
Ran commercial biodiesel in it.
Mine was a frigging nightmare. Bad ignition Coils, CV joints, interior electrical gremlins, trunk leak that constantly fried the right rear tail light, stereo fried itself.....
Alex, If a torture beam rear suspension is good enough for Mazda, it should be good enough for VW. 😉
GLI is a looker, did a good job integrating the red
I honestly think the gli needs to turn down on the red maybe do like Audi with the red badging on the door like they do with he s line
The Jetta has always been a nice car the new changes are a great improvement. It's nice to see that VW maintains this model in their lineup. I’ve had three of these, two which were GLI’s and I really enjoyed driving them, I look forward to driving the updated model. Great review as always.
Thankfully we still get the TDI here.
The Jetta doesn't get enough love. It's a great deal.I'd be very happy if they made a Jetta wagon for NA.
That looks much better. I wish all cosmetic refreshes had these results. I hope they sell a bunch, good looking car.
I believe that it was really a smart decision on VW to refresh and not redesign the Jetta. Keeping the cost down I feel will pay dividends to VW down the road as car prices continue to rise above what many people are comfortable paying.
Good to hear that VW is keeping a model with a manual. The price is good and the fact that the GLI has an independent rear and a price that people can afford. Being just a North America model, it's good that VW is staying in the market.
The front end looks way better than the previous model
The refresh is much improved over the outgoing model. Especially the front view.
I like the new exterior look but honestly I like the interior of my 2024 Sport not to mention mine has the 6 speed manual.
Sad to see manual in base models go away. One of the last US survivors.
That looks really nice. They’re going back to the Gen 6 roots. Also thank god VW for using the Aisin transmission, they want this car to be reliable.
I like that GLI a heck of a lot better than the 2024, especially, in the front!
I’m happy it’s just a refresh. It’s a solid car as is. No need to increase the price.
Love the front of the gli. Hate the rear.
I’m glad the GLI keep the manual unlike Golf GTI and R, and that front grille reminds me of that front grille of the MK7 Golf GTI.
The GTI and R still have a manual.
Nope, VW dropped the manual for both of ‘em for 2025
@@egayetsk Apparently in 2023 only 3% of GTIs were sold with 6-speeds.
The change from physical climate control to the stupid capacitive touch is almost a dealbreaker. Didn’t Volkswagen state they’d be adding in more physical buttons not removing them? Huge misstep in usability
I feel you, I’m not a fan of the touchscreen either but the exterior refresh is what keeps me wanting this car.
Looks a heck of a lot like the previous iteration. Improvement all together.
Great job on the exterior improvements, kudos on keeping a manual trans available but interior is just ok.
8:14 love the multigenerational picture!
Finally small & sleek and slim grille design from VW!!! Good job!!! Keep this for all your car designs!!!
wow! I like it a lot and still have independent suspension!!!! this actually looks really nice
It’s a great look! Gorgeous car with amazing handling and ride!
Like the new look, the front reminds me of the Arteon. Thanks for the video!!
No need to full redesign the Jetta just yet. Most people buy SUVs rather than cheap sedans these days.
Looks great... good job, VW. Please make non-black version of the wheels, without having to spend extra.
I have a 2013 Mk6 GLI and didn't like the design of the '24s. I am really digging this new version.
I own a 2019 GLI (my 8th VW). Best car I have ever owned. Not one issue. Performance is spot on. So much fun. I will be trading in my GLI for a '25 GLI with the quickness. The GLI is rare on the road and handles as well as any 330i Bimmer.
Nice update. I wish that had been the look of the current Jetta platform all along.
Front end looks good again! I liked the 2024 dash better but I suppose its hard to integrate once the screen size becomes so big.
about time vw!!!!! looks so much better
I love the design of this Jetta. I had a 2019 that I replaced with a new GLE.. I wish VW wouldn’t have put touch sensitive steering wheel and climate controls.
Great video! I've been selling VW's here in the Seattle area for 25 years. I get the point of keeping costs down, however VW goes way to long in the tooth on the same body style. It was talked about a half a decade ago VW would stop doing that, and change to a new design every 5 years to keep up with other brands. I guess that got thrown out the window. I love Volkswagen, but they will never fully understand the US market. They're always late to the game, or have bad luck.
Get an EXTENDED warranty is my advice, and look for cheap lease deals 😊
Or skip giving your money away to warranty companies. Save it in the bank and pay for any repairs that may come up, if nothing breaks then you keep your money.
Best value for the money in that segment. Zippy, great handling, and cool German styling. Love it.
It looks SO much better than the current generation. They should have gone right to this look in the first place
The GLI looks great. I had the first 2012 GLI autobahn for 2.5 years. This one is more horsepower with many tech features standard.
I think the problem with these screens looking small is the bezels. The screens, even the small ones, would look way more attractive if they got rid of the super wide black borders around them.
Yea, I don’t like the border around the screen.. they might as well put a 10 inch in there .. with the border it look 10 inches
Nice refresh
Put the Elantra interior dash in the new refreshed Jetta, and then it would be an excellent competitive vehicle in its class! I just can't get jiggy with that 8-inch screen. VW should've pushed harder in the technology department, especially since it's no redesign model.
Love it, especially in that blue.
Doesn’t look like they put too much effort into it, exterior looks cool I’ll give them that but not much else besides the screen looking like it’s glued on the dashboard now. Cool, ish.
I think the larger LCD from the GTI would have been worth the $300 extra but other than that I like the changes.
Love the New Gli ! Can't wait to get one !
I like the front end, huge improvement over the mk7.5. Not a fan at all that they're switching to haptic touch. That's pretty much a disqualifier for me which is sad because the Jetta was the last VW to not use haptic which is why I purchased a mk7.5 Jetta over other VW's. Now there is nothing in their lineup for me which sucks. I've been with VW since 2012. I guess I'll ride my mk7.5 for a while and then on to another brand.
The Honda Civic blows this out of the sky 😮 Yet the Jetta 2025 does look refreshed and awesome 👏
The civics are over priced and boring
So much more car for the money than any of its competition. In this category, the Jetta is a stand out winner. The only real competition the GLI has is the Elantra N-line.
I like the new look it reminded me of the new golfs and my mk6.5 Jetta
This car would be great if they would have just kept the old steering wheel controls and hvac controls. Otherwise it looks great. Still don’t understand why this can’t have IRS when the Corolla can but fora refresh I think this looks so much better now
Thanks God they didn't bring the touch slider volume adjustment bullsh*t to this one.
I have a 2021 gli I'm so excited to buy the new one. I almost bought the new golf
It looks much nicer and reminds me of the previous gen.
Is there going to be sensors for the GLI
Front looks better, back still needs work. They should just add the GTI tail lights.
I like it. Is a very good design.
Nothing from VW appeals to me anymore and I was a number one fan back in their hay day.
As refreshs go, that is a substantial one. And all changes I see make sense and are actual improvements. The styling especially is way better. Just like the Atlas, one those really interesting VW cars with decent value for money that we do not get in Germany. VW = Volkswagen = People's car... So value for should in theory the essence of the brand. Nice to see that at least in NA it actually is 😀 In Europe they have Skoda and Seat for that, while VW itself is kind of placed above all the Asian brands, as well as PSA, Fiat and Ford in terms of price, but still slightly below Audi / BWM / Mercedes. So kind of "half premium"?
From what I hear, they're better made than the US only models with less cheap plastic on the interior etc... But damn, I still like the Atlas over the Touareg. Especially given hugely expensive the latter is. And the Jetta seems like a perfect car for a Uni student, young people in general or the perfect 2nd car for a family.
The interior is objectively worse than the outgoing model but the exterior styling looks better. Capacitive touch climate control sucks and the new screen looks more dated than the old one. Plus capacitive touch buttons on the steering wheel for the gli model. Something people complained about in the golf
Funny to see a German person say that. The VW's sold in the USA are pretty junky, very unreliable, mostly made in Mexico, and the models themselves are a bit different - the last few generations of Passat for North America are bigger than the "real" European one - but cheaper (in cost) and cheaper (in engineering). And the Atlas was built to be exactly that as well, big and cheap. It's really nothing at all like a Touareg, which easily competes with an X5/GLE in engineering and sophistication, setting aside the badge.
It sounds like a good recipe, except here in the USA where they are still relatively uncommon compared to their Honda/Toyota competitors - so they still require a specialized European mechanic, difficult to find parts, etc. So in the end you have a cheaply made vehicle, but that is expensive to maintain and difficult to find parts - VW mechanics are the same shops that service BMW/Mercedes. Having a new facelift model every couple of years does not help (which makes parts even more difficult to find)! It's why VW has never quite been able to find a mainstream market in the USA for decades.
Still, I like them, and so do some other people. The availability of a manual transmission is one of the other things that helps set them apart - Honda/Toyota no longer offer this is pretty much any car. VW will be at a real loss if they lose this unique offering.
Ima get the GLI. ❤
I don’t know about the 1.5 L turbo, in the 1.4 L turbo the manual got better economy on the highway hands-down every time. I had a 2019 1.4 turbo Jetta with a six speed manual and I had a friend who had eight speed automatic.he got about 3 miles in the city Uber full-time, but I got about 5 miles the gallon better on the highway.
Should have bumped the engine from the gti into the gli big miss by Volkswagen.
Front end and back looks great. Don't love the way the screen is for infotainment, great that it's 8 inch but it looks weird with the big bezels.
Are the turn signal lamps in the rear amber or red? Also, can you change the front display from MPH to KPH?
Rear end reminds me of Accord
I see a little in there.
Where are the parking sensors?
They should have put the Mk8 GTI powertrain in this by now. This powertrain is now 10 years old now.
I think it's simply a matter of limited competition...
@@AAutoBuyersGuidethat’s going to make the sonata N line sell well. It is way more modern and powerful now.
@devn3813 Different class of vehicle. Sonata is Midsized. Jetta is in the Compact class.
@@jraheemjefcoat429 I’ll cross shop them because they’re about the same price now.
@devn3813 I would've expected Elantra N to be close in price since it's the same class of vehicles.
Damn definitely disappointed that they got rid of the manual on the base model trims and climate control knobs are gone.
I think I’m going to buy this
I’ll say it a million times if I have to: sedans need to adopt a sportback/liftback design as standard. Leave traditional trunks for sport cars and sub-compact commuters. Give any mid or full size sedan a liftback so it can actually use its cargo space more efficiently with folded seats.
The civic hatchback for example is 6” SHORTER from front to back than the sedan is, yet it can fit a full size men’s bicycle in its cargo area without removing any tires.
Automakers really aren’t doing enough to market this style. Most normies don’t even know liftbacks exist.
Who knew that Kia, Honda, and VW would axe the manual in nonperformance versions for the same model year
remember Boser hoods from the golden age of euro tuning? MKII/MKIII/MKIV/Corrado/B5/E30/E36/E46/etc
that GLI 🤤
SEL is the same? What about seats (material, ventilation, memory)
Hoping the GTI engine would be in the new GLI for 25 . I will hang on to my 19 GLI for a while longer .
I’m still keeping my 2021 GLI not buying the 2025 until the increase the horsepower is ridiculous since 2019 no increase of horsepower do they wanna take 15-20 years to increase horsepower.
Front looks like the 2019 golf R to me
If you have a good design already, don’t change it. Price speaks volumes in terms of desirablility. My main concern is reliability. VW models such as Taos and Tiguan have had the worst reliability record for new vehicles and it’s a shame. I love VWs and I would love to get a GTI again, but the reliability is a turn off.
I love how it looks but is it gonna be reliable? 😢
Looks very nice. Darn I just bought a 2024. 😊😢
Does it have a spare tire?
Thanks, I may have missed it.
This new GLI looks MUCH better. 🔥
Nicer simple design vs the new accord.
Does anyone know if the 2025 Jetta will have rear air conditioning vents? tks
Oh. I like how the Jetta looks. It looks...normal?
When are you doing the carnival ?
Independent suspension would have been preferred across the lineup. Everything else seems great
Still no powered folding mirrors and no ac vents for the rear seats.
I have a Jetta with the 8" screen. I was so turned off by the 6.5", it's just too small. So good to see they put the 8" standard. The updates are nice.
Waited to hear the words 2.0 16v non turbo engine.
Its ok. Definitely futuristic and cleaner look. But now that damn near everything is touch in the interior im more turned off than on. I wonder if the rear cabin is still as cheap as before.
Looks better
Great car.
2000 GTI GLX, 2010 Golf TDI, 2014 Tiguan S, 2019 Jetta S, 2024 Jetta S, all manual. I guess the streak is coming to an end.
