I’m currently working in my 9th year as a dental assistant. I always tell myself I could never be a nurse bc I’d get too attached to my patients or I don’t want to work in a hospital or clean up poop.
However, I’ve learned there’s so much more to nursing than that. At almost 40 I’m ready for a change in my career.
Thank you for this video bc it’s helped me have a better understanding of the side of nursing that isn’t really talked about.

In my last couple semesters of nursing school and have been having doubts about becoming a nurse because everyone only talks about bedside nursing! I plan on doing it my first year as a new grad, but I care about my mental and physical wellbeing enough to know that I'm not going to stick to it lol. This video made me feel much better knowing that theres so many more options that are never talked about. Thanks!!

I literally just started nursing school and before I started, I really wanted to be a bedside nurse. But I'm starting to realize the extreme amount of stress I'm probably going to encounter by being at the bedside. Im a pretty anxious person and if most people say THEY'RE burnt out and way too stressed, then I can't even imagine what it's going to do to me. I'm glad I'm watching these kinds of videos now.

I agree with the fact that obtaining your license makes you a "real nurse" although you still need to become an "experienced" nurse. I've done a few of the positions mentioned and unfortunately you will find a nurse "experienced" would get the position over someone without experienced. That may have changed since COVID, and could also depend on how desperate the employee is to fill the position. I am glad to see more nurses valuing there health over a job and money. It is true that you can obtain experience outside of bedside / hospital nursing but it could be challenging getting the exposure to a miriad of experiences that you find in an inpatient setting.

I was hoping for some advice. I graduated as an RN in May of 2017 but had a surprise pregnancy. I made the mistake of not signing up for my NCLEX right away and waited until I was about 7 1/2months pregnant 😣 I ended up having a panic attack and didn’t pass. I tried not to beat myself up so I kept reviewing but then my son was born and I slacked for a bit. I studied again and attempted to retake. Failed again. I couldn’t believe it. I did very well in school but I do have severe test anxiety and adhd so in school I was given extra time for exams and a private room. I found out after I failed second time that I can apply to get some testing accommodations so I will be doing that for my third try. BUT my son was diagnosed with ASD then we had COVID etc etc and before I knew it omg it’s 2023 and I graduated 6yrs ago!!! I can’t believe how fast it seems the time has flown by!!!! Now that my son is in a learning program full time during the day I’m ready to get back into the working world but here I am RN no license yet. Not a great look. Just when I thought I might be ready to re attempt nclex I find out they changed the test style. So now I’m trying to review that and what the COVID protocols are since I didn’t learn that back in school. Even with all the time that has gone by I won’t give up. My plan now is to get hired in medical world in job that doesn’t require license just the RN degree like maybe medical assistant or something like that so I can freshen up my skills, put my knowledge to at least some use and hopefully that will help me with nclex as well. Then when I finally do pass I can get the RN nurse job I originally trained for. Does anyone have any tips for someone like me as far as prepping for the new style NCLEX? Any any advice for someone that took a career pause so I could care for my special needs son. Sorry for rambling but I’ll take any advice! I just want to finish what I started to show my kids never give up and then I can also provide for my kids even better ❤

Look into Medicare Set Aside..as a nurse, you can work at home full time..write medical summaries and develop a treatment report. These are workers comp patient records. The pay is outstanding. Would need to get a couple of certifications, but most companies allow time for this. Some companies will train you straight from your prior nursing experience.
