Trivia: The Magnum XL-200 was announced in October 1988 and listed in a 1989 park brochure at only 201 feet tall versus the 205 foot tall statistic seen today. The 201 foot statistic came from the rides blueprints and did not include the height of the footers.
i rode this when it was still the tallest rollercoaster in the world in 1992 and i was only 9 yrs old. let me tell you, when we were a mile or 2 away and could see that thing, that hill, sticking up into the skyline... wow it was a feeling i will never forget. anticipation. fear. adrenaline. but with gigacoasters all over the world, young kids that ride Magnum now don't appreciate the history of it. how groundbreaking it was. it literally was like nothing ever built. to them it's just rougher, shorter, and slower than Millenium Force and the others. yes, other companies learned how to take these concepts and improve upon them, especially with computer modeling to smooth out the turns, but this is the ride that started it all. respect. and also, you guys are wimps and spoiled if this is too rough for you.
David Stewart I'm 14 and I love the old stuff like Racer,This,Screamin Eagle,Judge Roy Scream,ECT
at the time it was built park opens in 1989 the summer last crusade and the first Batman film was released it was making a lot of publicity than with it being nearly 30 years now barely anyone can remember all the talk it made at that time period.
Im aloud to say its rough when I get off and have bruises on my thighs from the restraints and limping my way through the park. Sheesh just bc a coaster is old and has good stuff doesn't mean it's the best thing ever. Seriously magnum is cool and all but I don't plan on riding it again because I don't want to be in pain? I know that may be a wild concept for you but I don't like it when roller coasters leave marks on my body
I like it more than MF
I chickened out for this the year it opened. I was 8, and it was definitely intimidating back then. Waited almost 2 hours the following year, 1990, and have been on this hundreds of times since. This is almost always the first ride I hit when I go to Cedar Point, and since there is rarely a line, you can always ride it 5 or 6 times in a day.
The lift hill sounds like a grocery store bottle return.
Sounds more like the lift hill of an Arrow Dynamics looping/corkscrew coaster!
It does
I love the ole classic arrow dynamics lift hills
Sounds like viper at sfmm
Arrow Dynamics coasters have the best lift hills
The climb up is one of the most unnerving experiences of my life lol. The drop was definitely worth it!! Magnum was one of the first big coasters I rode, and it's still as good as ever.
It just blows my mind that this hyper coaster is now the 6th tallest coaster in the park.
Blows my mind how good of a ride it still is.
6th? It's tied with Steel Vengeance at 4th at 203 feet.
@@RodknockRhett Steel Vengeance is 205 feet.
Gosh darn it I love the unique sound of the Magnum lift hill. Very good audio.
Today July 28th 2020 was my first day getting on this ride. My boyfriend forced me on it. I cried waiting in line & strapping in. After all this is a bomb ass ride with an amazing drop. I think I literally seen half of cedar point before the first drop. Loved it ! 🎢💛💯
This was my first roller coaster ever, back when I was 11 years old, when it was still the tallest in the world. Wow, what an introduction coasters!
I do not get why people think that this one is rough or painful. I thought that it was smooth for how old it is. I experienced no pain on it at all and it was actually one of my favorite rides at the park.
Probably because we are comparing it to when it first opened. It's a lot rougher ride now.
I make this coaster a must ride and have been doing so since it first opened. As time has gone by the smaller air time hills have become rougher.
FanOfVacuums2 like do people just not brave themselves ? It’s not painful.
It’s rough on the thighs for us skinny people. Your thigh bones are slamming into that lapbar three times in quick succession. It hurts.
@@eaanyills Exactly. I usually don't mind a little roughness here and there like on some woodies, but after a few airtime hills I was just looking forward to getting off due to my thighs constantly slamming into the bar
I've been on Magnum XL 200 like 3 times on my trip. It was one of the best roller coaster i've ever been on.
r u high???
No but I've been riding roller coasters since I was 6 years old.
you realize you've never told us how old you are right...
Just went on this three hours ago, was expecting a train wreck and had such an awesome time all the way through, those hills at the end are no joke
This opened exactly 30 years ago.
Today is 5/6/19, and this opened 5/6/89
32 years old now
Best magnum footage
This might be one of the best Arrow coasters anywhere...
What about x2?
Nico Bortolon Yes! THAT TOO!! :)
I've seen a lot of your comments on coaster related videos EVERYWHERE and I think that you are amazing for loving rollercoasters that much we need more people like you in the coaster community we are a underrated people the coaster entusanits
but I have 1 question for you (no its not What are those) do you think that cp wil, take out magnum in the next 10 years and put in a hc like raging bull? or bethemouth
Riley Murphy I don't think so, but if it gets a little rusty, then OK.
at most magnum should get new trains, the coaster is so iconic that it should never be removed
Magnum XL200 sounds like a giant condom
Who knew safe sex was this fun
Anikin Govannon lmaoo
Michael Thomas imma need one of those, every other size keeps breaking
Daniel's TightBottom Oh good god...
i searched this ride and instead get the condom result XD
I've only been on 30 different roller coasters in 3 different parks and the Magnum XL-200 is my #1 favorite since it first opened. 😃😃 Even if I was able to ride 500 different coasters it would still be in my top 5-10 favorites. I've only been on it about 10 times so far in my 40 years of life lol but it feels classic every time. The perfect ride in my opinion. 100% enjoyable. 10/10 A+++++
It is a great coaster I do say.
It's really sad how people can't enjoy a ride because they share the standard Coaster Studios opinion of "It is rough" grow a pair.
Piscinerate best comment
Piscinerate If they did, they’d complain more.
okay sorry i don’t enjoy a ride because i have a throbbing headache? my bad
I didn't think it was rough but the fucking restraint gave me bruises on my thighs making hard to walk
Its rough but very fun.
i'm an 80's baby and was pretty young when this came out. It was the biggest and baddest for a LONG time and I really like that they've preserved this Arrow masterpiece. I rode it this past summer and I gotta tell you it was ROUGH! I wonder what would happen if B&M Trains were used instead. Anyone know if Steel Dragon was enhanced?
Yes it was enhanced. I'm looking forward to riding Magnum.
@Arrow Dynamics Inc. well, since you’re so smart and know so much about specs, propose a solution. I love the ride but it’s ridership is declining as a result of people feeling like the ride is rough. Also, how did you manage to conclude that B&M has no way to fabricate lighter trains? If they were two across, that would most likely cut down on half of the weight right there. Sometimes, maybe just be quiet instead of positioning yourself as a subject matter expert when in reality, you may not be, regardless of your TH-cam handle because if you are Arrow, I cannot imagine that your balance sheet is growing considering parks are removing your attractions. I’ll wait
@Arrow Dynamics Inc. Who told you that I needed any explaining?
Also, they won’t have to change that down much considering what they were able to do in Japan. Also, unlike you, they have the money to do so if the project was willing to pay it.
Also, if you’re going to be sensitive, and bitch and moan about my perceived “rudeness“, maybe you should follow the advice I gave you the last time which is to be what they call the fuck, quiet. I don’t need you explaining anything to me but since you chose to, you can go ahead and eat my response.
I would hope that you would have better things to do with your time than argue about your ride which people unanimously view as being raggedy and rough, having the fifth best ridership at one of the best parks in the country. I’m willing to bet that your real hurt feelings is because you can confirm what I said about your balance sheet? That’s another reason to be quiet. Also, where the fuck is your solution? You don’t have one right? Yet another reason to be quiet
Also, how’d the do what they did for Nagashima? Also, how do you know they haven’t already prototyped a solution to replace those shitty Arrow fiberglass trains?
What a great view. I love the loud Arrow anti roll backs
Bnizzofashizzo same
Such an iconic sound
The view at the top is just a hell of a view
I am so happy that you didn’t mute the background noise like some
Recordings do
This ride has a great drop
Max Maretka but the lift hill
One of the best
Yes!!! Intense the way a coaster should be
Max Maretka not a patch on the First drop of Blackpool's Pepsi Max Big one
@@sevenamazingcats7042 at least it has a good view
i can feel the pain of the last 3 hills just from watching this.
*airtime
Same
Yeah, I swear this one just has some of the most "unnecessary" roughness (I put it into quotation marks since I personally do like them as long as I'm not riding the same coaster for 2 hours straight as this one is quite rough).
It sucks
I’ve road it
Amazing ride... went on it with my daughter she was freaking out for days after 😅
Great ride. Still a Cedar Point top 3 all these years later.
This ride is so different in real life.
LOVE the Magnum! A car accident has got me with a huge rod in my hips, holding me together. Can't even imagine the sheer joy that I can still ride this!!! So, it can't be that rough, I think all the airtime scares people!!!
The sound of that lift hill makes this ride even better. Great coaster.
Arrow Dynamics' Grand Masterpiece, right here. Still my favorite.
I completely agree it is my favorite too !
Yeah, it's one of Arrow Dynamics's greater masterpieces, along with Phantom's Revenge, Loch Ness Monster, Shockwave (now-defunct), X2, and Viper (the Magic Mountain version). Magnum also has one of the best and memorable coaster experiences.
X2 is arrow's masterpiece
X2 is far from being Arrows greatest masterpiece. It was a complete disaster and caused the company to go bankrupt. It's a great ride but it was the death of Arrow Dynamics. Magnum is the masterpiece, it caused one of the biggest coaster movements since the Kings Island racer. It's the reason why we have all these awesome hyper and giga coasters and is one of the reasons why parks eventually made it to Strata coasters like TTD and Kingda Ka ;)
James C nah, X2 is the greatest arrow ever built.
I have been on this one, it is fun..... my friend screamed so loud that I couldn't hear out of one ear for almost 3 weeks... the first drop got me but I was fine the rest of the way
I think Chance Rides/Morgan should retrack it once it reaches the end of it's operational life. It's too iconic to tear it down, and that would solve the roughness issue.
That’s actually a great idea. I honestly would miss the roughness though. It is magnums identity
Just rode this for the first time today! And it was my first hyper coaster! (Meaning it reaches over 200ft)
And I was terrified during the whole 30 minute wait in the queue. But it ended up being an awesome ride! Gotta thank my friend for pushing me to ride this!
Historically, this is one of the most important roller coaster ever built. Really, the first true "hyper coaster". This one is sorta the granddaddy in a way
My parents said this wasnt scary
BOY THEY WERE WRONG
This bad boy goes around 75 mph with tons of swerves and loud tunnels. But the front seat Is the scariest. (this Is comming from a highschool student that is scared of kiddie coasters) if this is your first roller coaster, get ready to scream like an anime girl seeing a squid
My first coaster is Sierra sidewinder at knot’s berry farm but my first big coaster is viper at six flags magic mountain and I am 10 soon to be 11
And yes I live in Southern California
I was afraid of coasters. This was my first at 17 years old. Love them ever since.
We got to go around on this coaster multiple times without getting off summer of 1990, we got lucky on a slow Tuesday I think it was. Best coaster ride ever when you get to stay on.
Definitely bumpy but if you don’t have a headache from a different ride before riding this one, this ride has awesome airtime!
Ladies and gentlemen, the best Arrow ever made.
Henry Kiley Desperado and the Big one are the beast by Arrow
It's a life ambition to ride this coaster!
When I rode this for the first time I remember being absolutely terrified by how high up it went, as I rode it right after riding the smaller coasters like Gemini, Iron Dragon and the Mine Ride
Now, I frickin love this coaster, and my favorite way to ride it is in the front row at night. Such an awesome experience
Just rode it today ... thought it wasn’t scary from the video and then 2 drops are crazy asf
Yes the first drop is the best in the park. It is long and packs a punch. The butterflies are the best in the park on first drop.
One of the best rides at Cedar Point
I went on the magnum for the first time a few years ago (now I'm 16) and I thought the ride was terrible. I cried because I don't like the stomach flip sensation I get with steep roller coaster hills or drops. I conqured it though, and this summer I'm conqureing the Top Thrill Dragster! I'm anxious for that one for sure! I'm from Ohio so if I back down this summer, I could always try next summer!
Megan Rose TTD really doesn't have that much airtime on the drop, it just throws you to the side because of the twist. I think you'll enjoy it. The launch is sooo much fun
V.I.F. Thanks I hope I enjoy it too!
Blessed Megan Rose did you try it yet?
my first roller coaster :D
mine was the gemini JR with my dad :P
cottoncaty scribbles my first was kingda ka
Pk_Lo Really? Gosh that's crazy
yeah, i was like 10 years old i was supper terrified of coasters and my dad and his friends dragged me onto kingda ka and now i love coasters
I was SO afraid of this as a child I couldn’t ride it. That slow, cranking...incline....ugh...haunting even watching it in TH-cam!!
Went there a few weeks ago. Don’t go during the day, wait for sunset. The view is AMAZING. Also HIGHLY recommend going on steel vengeance or top thrill Dragster first. (Steel vengeance is better in better in my opinion, it lasts longer.)
The lift hill sounds like major construction going-on at a major construction site in Dallas, TX on a typical weekday morning.
Now THAT'S why it sounds so familiar!
I was 10 and waited in line for 2.5 hours in 1991. I saw people get off with pee soaked pants, I was so scared I am amazed I did't crush the steel of the lapbar squeezing it on the first drop. The tunnels felt so futuristic at the time.
I went on this coaster as my first coaster in my life this summer! Had baseball tourney in sandusky and I went on it.
Thank you magnum, if it werent for you we wouldn’t have the big one.
I wish I lived close to Cedar Point. I keep hearing how awesome it is.
IDK if it was because I got stapled, but every time I went over an airtime hill, the lap bar hurt like hell. It felt like it was trying to crush my thighs. If I ran Cedar Point, I'd invest in B&M trains with the clamshell lap bars.
Great classic coaster. I always love the Magum!
korlu01 it’s ridership is like #3 in the park this year so keep dreaming
I'm gonna ride in the magic seat when I visit next year!
(1:13) I suggest, we all hold on….TIGHTLY!!!!!!
I love your channel, i subscribed!!!
I rode that yesterday and I closed my eyes so I'm watching this to see what I missed
I was at CP, and I was in line for Gemini. I was thinking, and said to myself "I should get my aunt to go on with me." The line was about 5 minutes, so I left the line to get her. A old man asked me as I was leaving "Are you scared?" Bruh I rode a 306 foot tall Giga coaster. (This was before I went on Millennium Force and Top Thrill Dragster.)
I’ve been wanting to go on this since 1989 when Scream Machine was first built. Everyone said this was even better. I’m going this spring.
How was it 😂
@@yummywater77 Great airtime, rickety but in a fun way. It makes sense how hyper coasters came out of that afterwards
This ride was very underrated when I went. It had no line so me and my brother went on it 6 or more times when we went
This coaster is so intense I closed my eyes that entire time and it gives crazy air time it’s my favorite roller coaster
my favorite coaster EVER!!
Yamisomad the big one is beater
timothy wait is it called steel force?
This is definitely the roughest ride in the park
The sound of the lift hill is burned into my mind from staying at Hotel Breakers a few times lol.
I remeber going on that ride but when I went on the top I was just thinking to myself like God what did I just get myself into. and I wanted to get off but that drop though
This roller coaster scared the shit out of me when I was 10 holy crud I remember that time like it was yesterday.
Magnum and MF keep battling for my #1 spot. Best two coasters on the planet. (Haven't been on Fury yet though)
your opinion will change. I rode it this past summer and as SOON as I got off i knew it was the #1 coaster. It's quite unbelievable. B&M has left me underwhelmed in the past though I like them but they really designed Fury like someone put a gun to their heads and said " this better be your best work".
I'd have to say Millennium Force and Fury 325 are equal. Magnum killed me when I went on it today because of how roughy it is so it's one of the worst coasters I've ever been on. Fury 325 is very smooth but that's only because it was made very recently. Millennium Force is smooth and it's 17 years old. Fury has a better drop and more variety of track layout. Millennium Force is only 15 feet shorter and goes 2 miles per hour slower. Fury is just 17 years too late to be be the best giga coaster. I live 30 minutes away from Carowinds and I get bored of the park every so often. Intimidator is the best at Carowinds and Fury comes in second. If you lived near carowinds you would understand, all of my friends agree with me. It's just a thing you realize when you ride each one so many times. I came to visit cedar point today and I loved millennium Force. Fury definitely feels safer than it though.
Also the Fury is way too overrated. Everyone is always so excited to get on it. I don't understand the hype at all. Intimidator 305 at Kings Dominion is better than the Fury and the intimidator. Now that I think about it though, Fury is better than the millennium Force in most ways but took way to long to plan it
Sunset Games the intimidator and intimidator 305 are basically the same thing
ABSOLUTELY NOT. Intimidator and intimidator 305 are VERY different. Intimidator is all about sustained floater "airtime", while intimidator 305 is focussed on intense positive g-forces and whipping you from side to side.
My favorite coaster ❤️
I love magnum even though I never rode it!!
CP keeps changing the colors of all their steel coasters.
No, they don't.
They keep repainting the coasters with the same color.
I rode this thing the same year Millennium Force opened. I didn't get to ride MF that day because I didn't want to wait 5 hours in line. I rode Magnum XL200 twice that day instead. More thrills on Magnum or should I say scare factor. MF hill is higher and looks scarier but it climbs to top of first hill quicker than Magnum does and it is a smoother ride.
We went there yesterday and rode this at night. It was so jerky and we rode it earlier and it was really smooth, so I knew something was wrong. It was so bad that it was painful. It was smooth up until the first drop. Once we get off, the next people get on and it broke down at the top of the first hill
I will never go on this forget that
Quality Is Great For 2014
I hope they never get rid of it. Like all Arrow coasters, its a bumpy ride these days, but, unlike Arrow coasters with inversions, it's not painful
Wow does this hill going up every end so so high
i used to hate it but now i love it
IM NOT KIDDING THERES A PICTURE OF THIS ROLLER COASTER ON THE COVER OF MY MATH BOOK SKSKSKSKSKSK
was a little bumpy to me but then again its the original hyper coaster......definetly a thumbs up. I do like Diamondback and The Raging Bull just a tad bit more.
The first time I rode this I thought it was painfully rough. Every other time I rode it I didn’t think it was unbearably rough.
This should have on-board audio. Who agrees?
Rode it for My first time ever yesterday and I was SCARED
i like the clankity clank old soundnof the lift hill. it kinda creeps me out, too
This was my first real coaster
Me and my cousin went on this a few days ago and our bodies are still sore from the restraints lol
This ride was super awesome when it first opened but now it's so rough, it's not enjoyable. I really wish the park would keep this coaster but revamp it to ride smoother.
in the station platform the ride opperater says This is the tallest and Fastest Roller coaster in the world...32 years ago we all laugh
this is one of those oh god rides
The worlds loudest rollercoaster
I see all these comments about if you find it rough, your a wimp, its a pretty cool ride with nice airtime and thrills, but oh my god does it hurt, i had s killer headache after riding it
This coaster is a bit bumpy but it was my biggestCoaster and it’s my favorite
the Big one is beater
I'm one of those guys who likes excitement but not too much excitement so I'm not sure if this is my kind of coaster. But I'll give it a try and see if I like it
Ok I rode the coaster and it was pretty exciting and scary at the same time. (I had to close my eyes while riding down the slope though) It was so fast that my sunglasses almost flew off and when you get to the 2 dips at 2:02 you will feel like your gonna fly out of your seat. But when I got off it gave me a small stomachache, so I recommend not eating before riding. Their were a bunch of guys who screamed "Holly Jesus!" and that was pretty funny. So overall it is an amazing coaster but i wish I rode it a second time because once just wasn't satisfying so I give it an A-
Yeah that first drop is a doozy masterclass of what a first drop should feel like. Catches a lot of people off guard because it is noticeably longer lasting and sends plent of butterflies to ur stomach. Millennium might have a taller first drop ....but Magnums is longer lasting and better lol
This ride is very bumpy but it's fun at the same time.
I can just feel the pain from watching it!
I’ve never been on this ride, to Cedar Point, or to Ohio, but I don’t get why they call it Magnum XL-200 instead of Magnum XL-205 because it’s 205 feet, not 200 feet!
It was the first ride over 200ft. Also, don't quote me, but I think the drop is 200ft.
the drop is actually 195'
the whole point is that it was the first 200' tall roller coaster, which at the time was considered amazing. Historically, this coaster is what ushered in the age of hyper coasters.
plus Magnum XL-205 wouldn't have been nearly as marketable.
I was at the water park and all I heard was screaming from Magnum 😂😂
I remember going on a magnum when I was 8 years old
Please check out my new Magnum XL200 POV ?
love it!!!
Fun ride
My mom said that the ride is pretty scary for beginners and I am a biginner for magnum xl 200! I hope that can face my fears on that ride.
Should I ride this? I'm ten years old....
***** bro when i was your age i rode the top thrill dragster once you go on it you will feel like a man and that you can ride any rollercoaster in the park its really fun so just do it
If Morgan was around back then, they should have built this 😂😂
Why it sound like it’s gonna break 😮
This ride is fun but my fav is the iron dragon
simplyZoey dont be silly
I really wanna ride this but I’ve seen some people say that it’s rough so idk. Last time I went on a really rough coaster, I suffered from back pain for a week lmao
yeet I went on this yesterday and honestly, it wasn’t that bad pain wise. It all depends on your age and how well you take rollercoasters. I mean yeah, I did get a headache after riding, but I’m young and this was my first real rollercoaster. It wasn’t anything an ibuprofen couldn’t fix. If your back is sensitive, the bunny hops probably would jack your back up tbh 😂 All in all, it really depends on the person. If your not that sensitive, definitely ride it!
