Tip for Europe driving... You should always stay on the right lane unless you're passing then you can use the left lane. And check the map, it shows directions when to switch lanes.
in contrast to reallife, ATS has many split lanes with only the left lane going straight and the right lane being used for offramps and onramps.
in reality, that would be too dangerous (and in ATS it is too) and all lanes go straight and an extra lane is added before and after the exit (like the park&fuel at 13:18).
but i believe that slowly over time they are fixing that problem in the game and make it more realistic by reworking the streets.
They are rebuilding many parts of the map currently. When I started playing this game years ago, there even was a crazy crossing in the middle of the highway nearby Cologne that would not exist in reality because we don't have this, neither lanes just turning into exits and only one lane containing strait. Way too dangerous.

Are you talking about the map rework or the type of highway exit lanes? It's true, England could use some updates. We should not forget about them regardless of Brexit. I personally like England in RL. I would also like to see Ireland in the Game without mods.

They suck at using On-Ramps like in Germany (Accelerate!)
They also switch lanes far to sudden. I had several events where I had to break pretty much to standstill because of these ...
That grey Skoda Octavia letting you out on the roundabout was realistic. Some people have an attitude and others are helpful, also depending on the day they're having

Too helpful there. In a roundabout you only let people in, if there’s much traffic and you are slow anyway. But you never stop just to let anyone into the roundabout. It’s like stopping on a highway to let a car cross

Small tip.
In the job selector, you should change the sorting from prices to prices by distance to put the highest paying jobs in front.
You should also remove rare and/or dangerous functions from your controller (decoupling).
You can then replace them with functions you need more often.
12:08 German Autobahns do have no speed limits - for passenger cars and other vehicles 3.5 metric tons or less not towing a trailer.
For heavy trucks like the ones you drive in this game, the speed limit in Germany is 80 km/h in the Autobahn, and 60 km/h on normal highways outside of built up areas.

Greetings from Germany. The way you took from Nürnberg to Frankfurt is a standart trip for me since 30 years. The accuracy(?) of this simulater is mindblowing. The houses I saw are where they are in reality. Even their look and shape.
I did that trip twice with a small Unimog (7,5t (met)) and a hundred times by car.

I was pretty surprised by the accuracy of the game, the signs, the rest stops and the construction looked very much like they look in real life but then at 44:14 when you said look at that frankfurt skyline and there was a tram going below the bridge (btw the trams in frankfurt look EXACTLY like that) i was honestly shocked because i recogniced that bridge, i've been in that tram going through there many times haha

I'm not sure, but I think I built up my ADR skills first, since hazardous material pays good money, even on short hauls. The longer hauls a great. You have to get fuel and you have to sleep to make the whole way. The satnav has different functions, one pages shows you the damage to your truck and/or trailer and one page shows informations about your freight, the deadline, time left to sleep, etc. There is also a map where you can plan ahead and see if there is another gas station close by.

Yes, I think the same. A beginner can't do that such good and I've seen a lot of beginners. I was even a beginner myself years ago.
In Europe, a different speed limit is valid for trucks than for regular traffic. Trucks are capped at 80 or 90 km/h on the highway depending on the country where you are. In Germany and Czechia, it's 80 km/h, France 90 km/h (and Romania has a 100 km/h speed limit for trucks in the game, but that's unique). The regular traffic is usually allowed to go between 100 and 130 km/h on the highways in Europe, depending on the road situation and country. While in Germany there are some parts without speed limit for regular traffic, I believe in-game, no car goes faster than 130 km/h. Depending on the type of contract you take, your truck will actually be capped at 90 km/h, or sometimes the game let's you go faster, but then you're speeding. In cities, all traffic is usually capped at 50 km/h, or in some areas 30 km/h.
And about the traffic lights, placing them on the opposite side may work well for your typical four-way intersection, but in Europe, there are often intersections that are not just two orthogonal roads crossing each other. Especially in the old parts of the ETS2 map the city layouts are very much simplified and don't really resemble their real life counter-parts that well (the architecture resembles the real city, but not so much the layout), which is why you see a lot of orthogonal intersections here, but in the newer parts of the map (or in the reworked areas, like Austria) you will often find intersections where placing the traffic lights on the opposite sides would lead to great confusion. That's why traffic lights in Europe are always placed in front of the intersection.
In Poland cars can go 140 km/h, I just drove on that part of the "Autobahn" (don't know the polish name).
Concepts like the german "Grünpfeilampel" are also not in the game. Here a green arrow will appear on a seperate traffic light, allowing you to turn right or left. You don't even need to look for pedestrians cause they've got red as well.

@@LexusLFA554 I believe you definitely still need to look out for pedestrians because, while you might have the right of way, you do not have the right to mow down people - even when they are jay-walking. If they are those stop-oil protesters I will look the other way. They might have a decent goal but going about it all wrong.
The UK is a weird one IRL. All trucks limited to 90km/h (about 56mph), however the official speed limit for vehicles towing a trailer including trucks up to 44 tonnes is 60mph
Trucks in EU at least are hardware limited to 90 km/h. They just won't go any faster, not because they don't have the power, but the software in the truck will not allow it. That's also the reason why trucks take so long to overtake each other in EU, you have two vehicles going roughly 90 km/h and unless one of them slows down (which they usually won't), they're going to be overtaking at a 1-2 km/h speed difference.
As a Czech, I am happy you chose Prague. As an ETS2 player, though, I'd say you would be better of starting in either Germany (which you visited in this video anyway) or Austria, since those got big rework recently. And in my opinion, Austria is, right now, the best place on the original (non-DLC) map, because the rework they did there for both roads and citiies is just great. On the other hand, Czechia in ETS2, is pretty bland. very few roads, three cities (one of which requires DLC, BTW) none of them very realistic... well, it's pretty sad to see Czech developer ignorinng their home country like this.
Austria is a really good choice if you're planning on buying DLCs since the Balkans will come soon. And i must say, driving in my hometown in game i can really see the similarities

@@romainch505 Yeah, I am sure they will, eventually rework the whole original map. The question is, however, will they also rework the Going East map? Because, as I said, part of Czechia is in that DLC and if they only will rework the original map, part of Czechia will be reworked and part will not. And that would be terrible thing.

Something that might help for not missing an exit is putting on the voice for the satnav, it can help to keep you in the right lane for up coming exits and warns you for them. And in the quick jobs you should alway's have enough fuel. And for when you want to enable fatigue, you can use F6 to see your time before you have to rest next. With F5 you can put the map back on.

Little Tips from me: the B Button resets your camera, very usefull. Turning on the voice of the navi helps me alot.
The X button turns on/off the cruse crontrol.
The D-pad have usefull things too, whiper, light, map and view.
I have a wheel and pedals for racing games, but Euro Truck Simulator 2, i prefer to play with the gamepad.

I'm sure heaps have said it already, but there's two different speed limits. 80 for heavy vehicles, 110 for cars.
Also, the 90km/h speed limiter is in the options that you can turn off.
F6 shows you job details with what youre hauling, where youre going and time limits
In Czech Republic; 80 for heavy vehicles, 110 for cars.
In Germany; 80 for heavy vehicles, 130 for cars, including no speed limits on certain areas. Realistically, trucks must drive at 80 km/h on any Autobahn.
Another tip to know if youre in a splitting lane: pay attention to the lane markers (white lines on the road). If the lines are thicker seperated ones, then it is either a speed up lane for traffic coming onto the highway, or it is an exit lane / seperating lane. Fun fact: atleast in germany it is allowed to pass on the right on these type of lanes :) even though the traffic in ETS2 doesnt seem to have an issue with passing on the right XD
Right lane passing is such a common thing the developers didn't take special care about. "AI can go faster than the player && and empty lane is available -> pass, no matter where that empty lane is." And about passing on the exit lane: nope, not allowed. Acceleration lane and separating to another Autobahn is true tho.
11:22 - that lane suddenly ending out of nowhere is one of the most unrealistic (and frustrating) parts of the game -.-
Yes it is but they are on it to rework those parts bit by bit like they did in austria
while there is an arrow pointing outwards, I haven't seen a setup like that. It would either be an extra lane or at least marked much earlier.

1) It's 3 lanes into 2, not 2 into 1
2) I believe you get arrows and warning signs 1,5 km before the junction.

I enjoy the ATS traffic AI mod.
For Air Brakes - I have recently turned it on - if they are depleted you need to rev the engine in neutral. Softer braking helps too!
If you sort by price/km you get the most lucrative jobs. BTW, the lighter the load and more HP the truck has, the faster it is. I just finished a 40 ton delivery with 345 HP in ATS, it was not fun with the 10 speed :(
If you hover over the truck in job selection you get some details.
There is a button for center camera, and even a steering camera is available as an option.

You can change the speed to car traffic, and deactivate the limiter ;)

The trucks are capped at 90 in most of Europe when you're carrying a load; uncapped when you're not. (some of Eastern Europe allows over 100).
that's wrong, the limiter needs to be active at all times, loaded or not. This applies to any truck built after a certain date which I believe is some time int he late 1990s.
It's also not like trucks without a trailer are allowed higher speeds than trucks with a trailer. Where a truck with a trailer is allowed 80 km/h, there so is a truck without a trailer.

Small tip, you seem to have good performance on your game so maybe try to set the graphics a bit higher so you can see signs and other things far away better? :)
Especially raising the resolution and turning Anti Aliasing on (8x or 16x if you can), with those even the mirrors on the car can be used for parking :D
Yes, that last parking job was excellent! This was a lot of fun and I have to thank you, Ian, for bringing this game to my attention. Last week I bought ETS2 on Steam sale for only 4,99 euros and I played for 5 hours last weekend. Such a great game, I love it. And speeding can be expensive in ETS2, I got a speeding ticket for over 300 euros. Some would say that it's boring just driving and parking trucks, but millions of people love truck simulators, farming simulators, and heck powerwash simulator, so there is something satisfying about these games. Definitely smashed the like button and looking forward to your next trucking adventure!

For real companies there is an awesome mod on steam workshop called "real companies, gas stations & billboards" by MLH82.
Other great mods that add a lot of immersion are "Sound fixes pack", ProMods (need all the map DLCs though) or "weather 2.8"

Hey Ian, I am a European who has followed you for a long time, love your channel, and ironically, I am driving AMERICAN Truck Simulator! :)
I actually think you did great, but there's just two things I think you would like to learn: Regardless of the speed limit, whenever you have a trailer, whether car and camper, or tractor and trailer, if the trailer is detachable, the max speed is 80. And always stay on the right, but I believe others told you that. The other thing that will help your driving A LOT, is to pay attention to the diagonal green arrows on the Navigator, they mean to shift to the left or right lane. Some lanes are reserved for exits up ahead, so if you don't change lanes when told to, you are stuck in lanes that might later get separated by walls or barriers. SO, watch for those three diagonal arrows, and follow them. :)
It's fun, as a European to watch this, because the roads, signs, cars all look exactly as what I'm used to! :)
Go for a direct drive wheel if you can, they've gotten a lot more accessible (cheaper) over the past year. They generally have better FFB for realism when racing. They also disconnects for swapping out the wheel if you'd like. I can't say much for control panels for the big trucks, although they do make them for tractors and farming simulators and flight control panels for flight simulators. Anything to help get your controls off the keyboard really.
A plus for really any wheelset is the background software that can "tune" the wheel to specific games or cars you will drive. Direct drives are also typically quieter and can give you a lot more torque than a belt or offset gear drive wheel. At least that's the sales pitches I've seen or heard about them
Yep, Logitech only does I think 15nm Thrustmaster goes to 18 or something and DD wheels go from 15 to 40nm.
Direct Drive will respond faster to ffb.
I'm probably wrong with the actual numbers but the scale does go in the order I put them, Logitech < Thrustmaster < DD.
Steering wheel: for ETS/ATS any wheels will do as long as it has 900° rotation. Thrustmaster and Logitech are the leading affordable brands. Good luck Ian. Can't wait for the live stream. I started on Twitch playing this very game!

This is a great game to play. Fun to play and fun to watch people play. It will be good to see if you keep playing this enough to get to the properly long distance jobs. They do take a while.

Hi Ian, concerning the air brake simulation. In the game, with simulation ON, it mimics the real characteristics of an air brake. This means, everytime you brake, you loose air pressure, which has to be rebuilt by the compressor. Usualy you don't recognize this, BUT if you are breaking too often in too short intervals, pressure can drop below a minimum, which then results in closing the "park brakes" mechanically by the steel coils. And you can't release them until the air pressure in the system is high enough again to overcome the force of the coils, and thus to release the brakes.
That's about all. As i've been trucker in RL, i prefer, to turn the simulation on, because it really adds to realism.

Also, to see how far you have to go and how far your fuel will take you, press the letter 'I' until your small info screen on your dash says TRIP and distance or FUEL and distance, that gives you enough information on how far you can go on what amount of fuel you have. You need to stick to the route so that you don't run out of fuel, also stick to the Right lane unless passing or having to change lanes due to direction changes, always keep looking at the mimi map to check ur going in the right direction.
I'm not a german I just live here so this is somewhat an outsider's perspective.
I think Frankfurt is the most 'american' city in Germany, in terms of look & feel, some tall buildings there.
The cities and highways are simplified a lot, but it's funny how 37:50 exit at Erlangen kinda looks like the real one (the slope and the left-right intersection.. altho I think it splits into 2 lanes at the bottom but it felt really familiar :) ). I take that exit on occasion since I live about 10km from there. I travel the A73 and A3 mostly, my town is off the A3. Small trivia, adidas and Puma headquarter is very very nearby there, also Siemens is from Erlangen, Suse Linux is from Nurnberg. :)
I use a Logitech Driving Force GT which is like 10 years old tech at this point, I think it's the cheapest wheel / pedal set that is ok to use. It has a tiny, and very unrealistic feeling sequential shifter if you fancy that, hey, you can manual shift so it's ok for some cars, I don't like to use paddles in cars that are just manual originally. You may be able to get one really really cheap used.
Next step-up would be the Logitech G29 (slightly better pedal set, you have a clutch, but no shifter). Good ones are super expensive - direct drive wheels and load cell brake pedals - but the above are ok for casual use.
I play Assetto Corsa on occasion (I been to Nordschleife and plan to go more so it never hurts to practice the track a bit :D) and I played ETS 1 and 2 as well with this one and it works.

The way how we cross borders is very realistic. In general, they always have a board with the European Union flag in which the country name is written. Also I don't know if you noticed, but at the border, they have always a sign with the speeding limits in cities/towns, outside cities/towns and on the highway because they are not always the same. Quite realistic and impressive. Can't wait till you drive in Italy!🇮🇹
One border you really will notice is Belgium, most of their highways are made cold war style from concrete slabs so when you cross border you roll from smooth asphalt on rough concrete.
@@vHindenburg Didn't know that about our roads. (I live in Belgium btw.) But what I know is that although we have high road taxes, our roads are basically relatively bad.

Some tips for the future:
- Stay in the right lane with your truck, if you're not about to pass other traffic or have to turn left,
- Look on the Route Advisor more often, it indicates when you have to use a specific lane at interchanges,
- When you start the truck, turn on the lights immediately, no matter the weather conditions or the time by hitting L twice, specially Scandinavian countries require you to have headlights always turned on for example,
- Hazards are on the F key, if I remember correctly,
- Cruise Control is on the C key, and then you can increase and decrease the CC speed with Num-Pad + and - keys,
- On the quick jobs the fuel in the truck is usually sufficient for the job length, and as long as the fuel indicator in the Route Advisor is yellow, you have plenty of fuel in the tank, no need to worry,
- Traffic lights being on your side of a crossing, you'll get used to,
- You can set the wipers to Automatic with rain detection in the Gameplay settings somewhere, might need to scroll a bit through it,
- Truck, Trailer and Freight Damage has no visual representation, but you can see it when hitting the F7 key, with the F6 key you can see some information about the job, with the F5 you get back to your navigation,
- Trucks in ETS2 are vanilla capped at 90kph indeed.
Hope these tips help you and have a lot of fun in ETS2.

The truck not going over 90 it is only one option to turn off and so you can reach a speed over 100.

I play a few racing games as well and i highly recommend you getting a wheel, feels a lot more immersive!! There are some great DD (direct drive) wheel out there, some really cheap!!
I usually go 3/4 km/h over the limit without a problem 😄 One option that really helps navigating is enabling "voice navigation" Great backing up at 28:00
Loved to see your excitement for the game / sim. You can open / close windows...I mapped mine to 7/4 and 9/6 on the keypad to simulate up/down on each side respectively. Look forward to the next one !

Heyo, i play both truck simulators a lot, if this is useful for you, here is the xbox gamepad layout that worked out great for me:
Left stick sideways: steering
Left stick up/down: shift gear up/down
Left stick press: Dashboard function button
Right stick: lookaround
Right stick press: Camera zoom
LB/RB: turning lights
Left trigger: brakes
Right trigger: accelerate
Y: Adetach trailer
B: Reset camera
A: Interaction button
X: Set Cruise control
Dpad right/left: Increase/Decrease cruise control
Dpad down: Map
Dpad up: Cycle through cameras
By the way: In the gameplay setting, you can set cruise control to also actively decelerate if necessary, and most importantly, disable the truck speed limiter, so you can properly use the Autobahn and go NYOOOOOOM (prepare for fines, though some may consider it Worth It :) )
After your first Euro Truck video, I had a look on Steam for it. Lucky for me it was on sale, so I've been playing it for the last week or so. Lots of fun, crashes and driving like an idiot!

Awesome, fun to see you enjoying the game :D I play it with a DualSense (PS5) controller, gotten quite used to it, just had to dial in the right sensitivity.
- Suggestion for controller input: in Options -> Controls, set the steering sensitivity to around ~20% and the non-linearity quite high.
This results in smoother steering, letting you make small turns without having to go back-and-forth so harshly all the time :D
Not sure how sensitive the Xbox controller is, but a very slight turn of the stick should let you make small curves with ease. Try slowly and smoothly moving the stick.
- I would also recommend setting L3 (left stick click) to "Interior camera", as it's often difficult to line up straight ahead.

FIREE🔥🔥 i have an "budget" steering set. I have the logitech g920 it converts well in my opinion. But its a bit soundy and not the greatest option for sims but works for me.
In the quick jobs u shold be able to make it into ur destinations with the default Fuel amount they give you if u can drive the navigator route.
Some of the better countries to explore are Austria and parts of Germany (Hanover, Hamburg, Erfurt etc) as they are MUCH newer than other areas of the map
Fun to watch for a crusty old 10 year veteran of ETS2 👴, The game has changed quite a bit since initial release and many original areas have been (freely) upgraded such as parts of Germany, Austria, and ?soon? Switzerland. However if you want the original look (if better gameplay), take the Chunnel or one of the ferries to the UK and see exactly how it used to look.
You are a good reverser. Some 'hard' parking spots are tougher than others, like the notorious American Truck Simulator rail yard 'U' parking spot.
You can hide the on-screen map when the truck has a map on the dashboard (press F5 twice (another time to bring it back, or just pause using F1 to see it)). Keep an eye on the map and you won't miss your turnoff which you did at least twice during the episode.
A full map can be seen using the map option from the main screen. This lets you see where you have gone.
Try out the drive-by view (I think the button is 8 or 9). Just be ready to switch back to normal driving view (1).
Note, if you want to see an upgraded England (and MANY other parts of Europe), get Promods. Be warned, that it requires *ALL* ETS2 official maps. Probably best to wait until you are sure you want to keep playing. Best done with an alternate profile too, as ETS2 updates disable such mods until they are compatible.
Few tips for driving this side of the pond. Trucks are limited to 80 km/h (50 mph) in most countries. Some countries allow 90 km/h (56 mph) which is also the limit for trucks in Europe. This is an electronic limit and (i believe you will loose your license if you are found to exceed this). In game there is a setting where you can disable it, but i don't remember the setting. Generally you always drive in the right lane and only go to the left if the map shows you to do so or if you overtake a slower vehicle. In this video i see your truck has a satnav and you also have the map open. This is not needed and may be confusing to some.There are satnav mods which have audio. You may benefit from using one of those. Until you have your own truck you won't need to worry about fuel unless you get too lost. You decouple too early. Your trailer is not in the right position. When trailer and truck is in a good position the white blinking markings will be green. Then you can decouple and get your experience points and money earned. Tips to use your points for skill: long distance, dangerous goods and heavy goods. These will help you gain more experience and earn better money. In some/many European countries you are required to have lights on. So turn on your low beam. And as for realism....remove that mirror in the top right corner. You won't have that in real life :P
Trucks are limit at 80km/h, but most go around 90km/h. Buses can be going faster, mostly around 100 km/h.
If you go in your settings menu, you can switch the truck limiter off and your topspeed will be around 130 km/h. Cruise Control by default is "C".
If you press "I" in the truck you will change your display and you can see how much fuel you have and how far you can drive with it.
Press the numbers on your keyboard and you will switch camera.
As I actually know most of the routes you were driving, I was always thinking: Oh... now he's on the Frankenschnellweg. Ha! This is the Stadion am Bornheimer Hang!
Loved the streaming! I hope you continue these uploads! just an advice since you're not using any graphic mods, you can easily set the graphic settings to ULTRA, I think it will perform really well, and you will enjoy it more and see far stuff clearly. and last thing: when buying a truck stay away from IVECO they're the weakest in the game haha.

This is really nice, and I like your comments about being a novice. You did the parking job at 25:00 really well. Because of the LKW trailer in the way, I would have reversed the rig first and approach the parking spot from the other side. But who am I to judge. Still, this kind of parking isn't easy in real life, despite the smaller trucks, smaller turning radius and a better overview from the cab in general compared to US trucks.
Some other tips for this game: always drive on the right, and watch the navigation arrows for hints. Speed limits vary from country to country, on motorways you can mostly be sure that it will be 80 km/h. The Iveco Stralis is a nice truck, sadly the new Iveco S-Way is not in the game.

for steering wheels i us and love the logitech g 25 it comes with 3 pedals and shifter for dirt cheap and for me it was the best generation of logitech, love from spain
Fun video! You should look at some engine sounds mods; some of the default ones are real weird and cut in and out on and off throttle like the one in this vid. Plus the sounds are just a bit flat in general too.
A good and affordable first wheel would be the t300rs gt, which is belt driven and much better than gear-driven wheels like the cheaper entry-level logitech g920 and such, but not as expensive as direct-drive wheels. It also has the bonus of 1080 degrees of turning for trucking games, and 3-pedals. Great video!
In Europe, heavy traffic (e.g. trucks) have different speed limit than cars. As a result, trucks get overtaken a lot. For example, here in Finland, trucks can legally do 80 km/h max and they typically have limiters set to 87-89 km/h. Police starts ticketing in Finland when you go 4-6 km/h above the speed limit.

For your first mod add on I would get the exotic/classic cars mods so you can do some car spotting while you drive. To get your company up and running fast 1, do long hauls as they pay the best! 2,when you can buy the cheapest Inveco buy it and put a driver in it so you have 2 incomes, 1from the AI driver (skill them on long haul then go auto) while you continue to try different trucks with quick jobs
Watched some clips and love your videos/ humor and overall attitude. btw, The maximum speed for trucks in Europe is monitored from 80 to 97 km/h. that's why you are passed by cars (they are allowed 120 on average*) =D Grtz from Belgium
For cruise control - hit "C" , For the Speed Limit on the truck - there is a setting in the "game" menu where you can turn that off. For the realistic traffic - look up "jazzycat traffic mods", he has a few that add a lot of real cars, trucks, buses, etc. For the speed you maintain with the truck - in EU, trucks and cars speed limit has bigger gap if i can put it like that. The trucks drive with 80-90, while the cars can do 120-140km/h on those autobans. Thats why they are passing you so fast. Pressing F6 while the navigation on the bottom right corner is ON, you will be able to see the job details - what stuff you deliver, which city you deliver to, what is the weight of the cargo and in what time it should be delivered. In the game settings you can assign a button for the "interior zoom", which will allow you to zoom in when you are driving in the interior view. In the EU (i think all countries or at least most of them) you need to have your lights turn on at any time. Yours weren't on, so you got a fine. You need to press L two times, because the first ones are just a running lights. Also hitting P multiple times will increase the wipers speed. For any sim I would recommend the Logitech G29. It's just a great allrounder and it's got enought buttons for a senseful setup. Thanks for making those videos!
Agreed, I've had G27 with the Shifter + SKRS for over 5 years and it still works amazing. There are also pricey Thrustmaster based setups but that's just overkill unless you're building entire Sim room.

@@dwightk.schrute8696 Thrustmaster are not pricey in any way, they're pretty much equal budget as Logitech, like for example the Thrustmaster T150 or the T300. If you want pricey go with a top DD wheel from Fanatec or Simicube where you can easily spend £2k on it. Also you don't need to build an entire sim room to have a good wheel but the top tier ones do need a sturdy table or a sim rig, a wooden table would break from the forces a DD can put out compared to the tiny amount the lesser wheels can.
If you want a less traffic sim and more _action trucking_ kind of experience, you can tweak gameplay settings to
1) turn off speed governor, and
2a) set "Route advisor speed limit" to "Show car limit" which allows you to drive at higher speeds legally, or
2b) turn traffic offenses off entirely.
To get smoother braking, consider using engine brake ("jake brake") and the optional retarder. Both come with some cool sound effects as well.
Cruise control relaxes driving a lot. Hope your controller doesn't run out of buttons to bind.
Tip for roundabouts. When you enter the roundabout and when you are inside it you don't use your turn signals because you can only go right and then only left, you use your turn signals only when you are exiting the roundabout
You can also put everything in familiar terms like miles & US gallons. And yes there's a real businesses mod that's really good to use.
For the DLC's maps and the cargo ones are pretty much all you really need to buy, cabin accessories is good optional one later in game when you get your own truck cab (I paused just after 4 minutes to put this out there)
The satnav by default routes you down the motorways, it can be well worth turning on the small roads options so you get out into some of the twisty and interesting side roads.
Glad to see you're having fun playing ETS2! 😃 And yes, the Iveco is really underpowered, to me it's the worst truck in the game, and I love the MAN TGX, it's my main truck!
Just a few tips. 1. Until you buy your own truck the trucks will always have enough fuel.
2. Nobody likes the Iveco
In Germany on the autobahn you see, when coming up on an exit, these blue distance markers telling you how long till they'll come up and you'd already have to signal that you're getting of at the 300m sign.
Some tips for more 'fluent' and less clumsy gameplay:
- keep an eye on your gps, it has lane assist and helps you be in the correct lane before you have more of those close calls
- when you get your first truck, avoid the Iveco's, they're quite ****
- when choosing which of three parking jobs you want to do, look at the graphical representation. It shows you where the trailer has to end up standing
- (not a tip, but...) despite being satisfied with it at first, nice first parking job though =D
- When you forgot to see what you're delivering and are already on the job, you can press F6 to see current job info on your GPS console. Press F5 to go back to the GPS function.
- the headlights have 3 modes: off (default), parking lights and on. Only the last one will not get you fines at night. It's best to keep headlights on at all time to avoid such silly fines.
- as far as I know, you can go up to 3kph faster than the allowed speed limit without ever getting a speeding fine.
- Use cruise control where you can, you can define buttons for CC speed up and down and CC gets canceled when you go below 3° kph
Some graphics tips:
Check your game graphics settings and see if your graphics card can handle turning anti-aliasing on or up. It will make the edges less pixelated. Do note: FXAA is post-processing and may not show up on recordings. MSAA is usually the best anti-aliasing quality, but demands a lot more of your pc's hardware. This may result in your graphics fans doing overtime and hence making more noise, which might disturb your face cam recording.
Also, see if graphics scaling is turned on and if so, turn it off. By default it's way down iirc and that usually results in worse graphics for the same amount of gpu work, hence is completely useless, not to say deteriorating to your experience.
Hey Ian, well for the most part you did pretty well other than, . . . . . . .Slow down on the bends(too much speed will result in a Trailer roll over, especially if you are carrying Fluids, once it goes there is no stopping it, as you were turning you should keep an eye on your mirror on the opposite side of the direction you are headed, if you are going to fast it will lean out too much.) Also when out in open Interstates/Motorways keep checking those mirrors so you know what is behind you or at least approaching you, also keep a much better forward thinking look at what is really ahead of you in the distance, especially your GPS too. Finally, reversing, Do it all slowly but precisely and you will get it right most of the time, only exceptions would be awkward parked Trailers or other objects. Don`t forget to stop short of Traffic lights, so you can se them much better. Well done on making some great efforts, once the excitement dies down for ya, you will be fine, WTG Ian !!!!
I have not played in a while, so do not recall if it is a mod or expansion, but you can even transport oversized cargo or very heavy cargo like you see in the vids you have been watching. Delivering a 90 ton train car or a huge piece of wind turbine brings your skills to the next level 😄

you are right: Ausfahrt means exit. The sign is directly at the point were then lanes split, but have there are blue signs with 1 to 3 bars on it in front of the exit indicating 300m (blue sign with 3 bars), 200m (blue sign with 2 bars) and 100m (1 bar) until the exit.
Also: blue signs are Autobahn, yellow means countryside
WRONG! Ausfahrt is the most famous city in Germany, every Autobahn leads there! 😜

As for "Ausfahrt" I can say "fahrt" meaning journey or trip has been a very funny anecdote from my now 99 year old grandma and my grandad who died 20 years ago. He married her from Vienna after WW2 and brought her back to England. She knew a good amount of English but when she settled on the final journey from Austria to the UK, she let out a sigh and said to the whole carriage "My, that was a very long fahrt!". Grandad and the carriage burst out laughing and she didn't have a clue, bless her.

As far as i know (at least in Lithuania) in roundabouts, TURN SIGNALS are used when leaving the roundabout or changing lanes inside it.
I am living close to Frankfurt and I visited that IK(E)A quite some times. Cool to see. I also drove those trucks and it was interesting to see how different the simulator reacts. Ofc in real life it takes much more to navigate those monsters ;-)
The traffic lights in Europe aren’t on the opposite side of the road to make drivers stop before the intersection so the cars don’t block pedestrian crossings
Regarding the Frankfurt Skyline. Frankfurt sort of has a couple of nicknames here in Germany because of it. Some refer to it as "Bankfurt" because it has all the major German bank HQs, and as it is situated on the river "Main", some call it Mainhattan. ;) Really enjoyed your drive.
Haven't played the game myself, but fellow workers have and told me that there are some Aussie maps available as well. Would be good to watch you trying to navigate around Australia too! :)

I told my husband about your video and asked him what he would have loved to see you do (he's a truckdriver) and he suggested you take the E39 from Stavanger to Trondheim in Norway. I don't know if that's even doable in the game, but would enjoy watching that very much if it is.
How far north in Norway is that? He'll need one of the DLC's (I think it might be the Black Sea one) there's only like the southern part of the Scandinavian countries & I don't recall any of the names of them since I haven't played in a while. But I do agree he should grab DLC maps and explore.
Many people are telling him to get ProMods, I don't think he needs it because the base game offers so much already.

Pro mods are a game changer in this game. makes it like going from playstation 2 to playstation 4 but i'd hold out on doing them until the new pro mods after the launch of version 1.48
