"The pride attempted a hunt on a herd of buffaloes and things went south quickly when the whole herd retaliated, stampeding towards the lions. Unfortunately, the older male lion could not get out of the way quick enough because of his injury."
"He then got thrown around and trampled for about 15 minutes before the rest of the pride came to his aid. He survived the ordeal and is still alive, but he is in very bad condition with internal damage."
"As sad as it is, we should always remember this is the wild and that nature can be cruel sometimes and it will always be a battle for survival. This male lion survived the past four years with a really bad limp against all odds and will fight until his last breath."

Dark Mane avoca was already injured and was entering old age when the buffaloes attacked him from all side and still he survived for several days after that. Truly an impressive lion.
These buffalos getting some justice, no matter how long it took.
They are well known for wanting revenge, helping not just there own kind but other animals ive seen footage of them helping elephant calf, warthog, zebra, wildebeest and other antelope from lions and hyenas if they can they will kill the predator.

It's a very nice thing to see that the lion survived such a brutal attack. It shows his will to live was still present and facing so many buffaloes, defying all odds to survive. But eventually, age catches up with everyone.
I think this is Dark Mane - looks like he’s got a punctured lung as well as some other very nasty injuries. The rest of the pride seem to be waiting for him though, and he’s been back on his (very swollen) feet. Not sure how much hope there is but obviously some.

This lion broke his paw a couple years ago and recently lost his pride from not being able to keep up with them due to injuries and those are the reasons for his stress and bad shape. That's why I don't get why so called human "alpha males" always compare themselves to lions and wolves. The life of an "old" male of either species sucks. If alpha males wanna life like lions then I wanna see them strip down and fight other men naked for a chance at having a woman then lose their families when they hit 40 and a younger man moves in and mains them and kills their kids. Like if they want the life of a ion then that's the reality.

Anyone stomping around today calling themselves an alpha is no alpha, just a chad. People will naturally gather to a dominant person for various reasons, like protection or wisdom. The original statement from the person who shot the video was that this male was already carrying a leg injury when the pride got caught up in a buffalo stampede. The others managed to escape while he couldn't. Although he survived this ordeal he has serious internal injuries.
Dark Mane is only 9 so still in his prime. He’s just not in the best of shape due to a run of bad luck. Plus he lost a lot of mane due to stress. So he may look older to some.
In the Wild 9 yrs old for a Male lion is OLD especially where thereare lots of Pride fighting
@@Mr09260 9 is prime. It’s after 10 that is considered not in prime. But as with people, life situations can make you age faster. And of course some old lions can still look in their prime. I guess it just depends.

Blondie and Mohawk should have never gone into the Birminghams' territory and tried to take over. Blondie picked up some bad injuries and never was the same. They should have let Dark Mane rejoin their coalition.
Anyway, they've sired quite a few fine young lions between the three of them, so there's that!

This is an absolutely horrific ordeal for this magnificent and extraordinary warrior to endure and still courageously fight back with such strength and will to live after being tossed around for such a lengthy time. He's A True Warrior King!

The lion has many enemies, there are those who fight for food like hyenas and other felines, and there are old grudge holders like buffaloes and elephants, I once saw buffaloes destroy a lion cub and even taste its flesh, I don't know if nature has a mind of its own, all I know is that some mistakes are fatal

It's very common, lions never want to be outnumbered or in a position where the pride can't help when it comes to animals like buffaloes and elephants.

WOW, they really messed him up completely. Where was his pride? Where or how did this failure begin? Or was the lion already injured before the herd found him?!? This was a brutal payback, that's for sure!!

I wish the vets could just help him. I hope he pulls through I can remember pretty boy mappogo getting tossed about didn't look good for him but he was fine. I hope the same for my favourite lion coz he's had a hard life bless him hail to the mighty king dark mane.

When they're old like this, and they're nearing an end, and if they're strong enough, they should try to find higher ground so more dangerous prey/predators can reach them.

They attack their from the back and take advantage of the young of other animals.
One on one, a mature lion cannot kill a mature buffalo of the same age.
The pride lions needs to come together to kill just one buffalo.

I just saw an update and DM is very unlikely to see out the weekend. He wasn't to far from the sub adults in the pride. The clise proximity to the pride may save him from being killed by Hyena's
If he eat something in somedays he will survive. The buffalos could not broken him enough.
Once I saw the words, "The Pride Returns," I already knew that those Cape Buffaloes were going to run. That old lion got some serious backup.
Oh wow, poor dark mane. Unfortunately, being the mighty buffalo hunter he and his brothers and pride(s) are it was inevitable that they'd want revenge at some point. I hope he recovers, again.

Poor Dark Mane got his original injury in 2019 while taking down a buffalo along with the Nkuhuma pride. It's sad he got injured by a buffalo herd again. 🙁🙁

Usually buffalo would continue their assault until they're sure a lion is dead. What I'm really surprised about is that they left knowing they hadn't finished this.

Poor Dark Mane… I know that he got trampled by the buffalos after the WildEarth Safari livestream but we didn’t see it. Poor guy seemed to be in a lot of pain in the morning.
I honestly thought that the lioness and the younger male were going to attack the calf once the herd got closer. I guess they left him….
