Thank you again Milesnuggest for collabing with me! Now go watch his lamp ranking video that we did together; there might be some more lore there, who knows... th-cam.com/video/qvDqcDVL9ww/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared
I like to think that all those bugs you see leading up to Nosk's lair were the construction workers for the Failed Tramway. Nosk is right next door to the hotspring where the workers would've rested.
11:33 I think charms are quite the opposite from ascension. They form from a bug's last wish (at least some of them), indicating something *not* reaching a grand conclusion, rather a wish so great yet unforfilled, it manifests as a charm. Ascension may also come from some form of grand forfillment.
Bro the king has been dead for ages how are they still paying their electricity bill?! Where is this energy coming from?! I expect you to answer this question in the next half hour video essay.
I wanted to note that those "eggs" look so similar to the Eggs found in the movie: "Angel's Egg". Most people know this but Team Cherry based on the general aesthetic of hollow knight from that movie. And I can tell that those eggs look alike because of the strange arms-like things that suspend them.
I had no idea the amount of ideas and connections that could come from something as simple as lanterns and lamps! I should know better by now, great video and really fun to see you and Miles collab :))
Something I noticed the Dirtmouth lumiflies aren't contained in crystal meaning they're intentionally staying there so there's probably some bait there attracting them so its possible they like food
Whilst Lumaflys might not be creations of the Pale King, Monarchflys (the 6 winged dudes that become the monarch wings, referenced in the Mister Mushroom lore tablet) may well be, which only raises more questions about regular Lumaflys and about the 4 winged ones seen in Silksong breaking the seal around Hornets cage and before the Lace fight
16:25 By the way id like to share with you my theory i had about electricity in hallownest, those strange cables in the background and usage of crystals from crystal peak. so basically it is said that those crystals are wery valuable but we cant realy see any of them in the world. It's also said that they have some sort of energy conduction properties (thats how i understand their relation with light of Radiance). I think that we cant see them because they are used in those cables in some way. We almost always see those cables around places with some mechanisms (like levers and elevators). The only other place we see those is soul sanctum, which might suggest that the main energy source for hallownest is soul (that also explains white light on the lever)
A friend of mine and me do lore on some hollow Knight server, and she's a Lumafly, we keep talking about how no one ever talks about Lumaflys, they finally are now! In fact, its part of her lore that she was once a Moth, and died and became a Lumafly, like seer! Hell, she's spot on with most of this!
I think it’s quite obvious that light is the most important symbol in Hallownest, a kingdom built atop a sea of darkness. The Radiance represents the sun, huge, bright, and beautiful. The pale king represents the moon, which, although appearing similar in size to the sun in the sky, actually has a much lesser form. And the lumaflys? With their great number and very dim light, it’s safe to say they represent the stars.
About the wierd things in deepnest: they're heavily inspired by tha anime "Angel's egg", which was a huge inspo for Hollow Knight. The anime has identical eggs, so I thought it was a reference of sorts
Awesome video!! I love seeing a concept I haven't thought about in Hollow Knight (which are very few) explored to its fullest. Thank you for this video :)
17:56 Radiance: LIGHT I LOVE LIGHT..I..NEED.. BIG LANTEEEEEEERN! Cc: oh no...ah let me just call the moth inspector (calls the number) knight we have a BIG LIGHT PROBLEM
I think the Monarchflies need more elaboration! And yes, they are actually called Monarchflies because in the Hollow Knight ps4 edition guide packet it says that they are the "Wings of a Monarchfly" :)
i think the reason that the colo still uses fire is because it was likely made before using lumaflys as light was fully descovered, and with the king fool being dead, there was never anyone to renavate the area.
I was not expecting lamp lore, nor was I expecting to see Lies of P on your laptop, just after buying the game myself. Started playing it a few days ago.
on the topic of lumaflies i think its interesting how in the junkpit(?) lumaflies fly out from the majority of chests down there. no idea how to connect that to anything but i think its interesting. also perhaps the lanterns vary based on the history? like as for having torches instead of lumaflies its possible that those areas were just. built before the implementation of lumafly lanterns and they didnt see a reason to change it? im not a hollow knight lorer so i dont know the actual history of areas though beyond the general things. or it could be to separate pale king territory from other territory without being too specific if it makes sense? (like the hive lanterns). anyways time to watch the pilgrimage video
Interesting note 1: The Mantis Pilgrim's Path lanterns have two flies in them, while a normal lantern was one fly, but two bulbs. Seems like they just combined 'em to make it easier to build lamps. Interesting note 2: The weird screechy noise of the pale light is shared by mask shards, soul vessels, and lumaflies. Could just be stock noise but given the Le'mer/Seer ascension thing, it may not be a coincidence. If the Pale King is an ascended being himself, perhaps this 'pale light' is not unique to him at all, he's basically just a living ghost, with the life and will to harness this power.
I don't think lumaflies are part of the pale king's reach, buuut monarchflies (the little six-winged goobers you can see flying around the monarch wings, which are also seen taking off in swarms when you're walking though the white palace.) could definitely be! They're pretty much identical in appearance to the hallownest seal. Another thing I just realized is that the aluba (guys who're gliding over the blue lake) also have identical anatomy to the larger ones who you see take off in the palace, right down to the long tails and trailing legs. The wanderer's journal says alubas are supposedly attracted the resting places of being of great power, so it's very possible the two species are related, or the monarchfly could even be the immature nymph form of the aluba. I love all the symbolism and details in this game, and theorizing about the potential ecosystems/life cycles of the creatures in it.

Wait, lamp ranking😂. Dang
this is why silksong is taking so long - they're working on making the lore document 10x as long so you insane people have something to do
this just seems true
Bro is an active hater on the prowl 😭
Nope. Just the Hornet design and the map (no joke)
Lamp
Lantern
Moth lamp
Light bulb
Troupe flame
Tribe torch

That’s actually a good reason to think that the bugs leading to the nosk arena are all worker’s

Night vision spiders is a terrifying idea
Wolf spiders have large eyes letting them see very well at night.

Had no idea much of the art style was based off of Angel's Egg. The City of Tears is almost a direct homage.

Welp. Two of my favorite games reference Angel's Egg in their lore. I'm going to have to watch the movie now lol

Great video! But, at 2:06 aren’t spiders eight legged?
Six... eyed?
Wait, also doesn't work.
Yeah, six legs is what insects have, not spiders

But not Markoth.
Markoth is dead 😌
Highly detailed and astounding video once again!
I'm amazed at the amount of work you put on this video!! ❤ All those details I'll never have the mind to look into omg
the maskmaker has a brother, called lampmaker, it is real i swear
NOO WAY HE UPLOUDED AFTER 4 MONTHS NO ACTUAL WAY LETS GO DUDE I LOVE YOU!!!
Goated collab, HK communities have their priorities in order before silksong
The lantern could maybe be so big because it could be a normal sized lantern. It could be human size because you're as tall as a bug, but idk?
No Silksong really has us out here hyper analyzing lamps
17:56 Radiance: LIGHT I LOVE LIGHT..I..NEED.. BIG LANTEEEEEEERN!
