Gonna be real, I always just kinda thought Emelitia was a little crazy. She’s been alone for so long, and loneliness can mess you up. She was outcast before the infection, so I imagine she had resentment for her fellow bugs. She got the last laugh in the end, and just kept laughing. I suspected the flowers were some way of keeping her alive, nothing more. She was content to sit there, laughing, so there was no point in giving in to the infection. Emelitia is completely alone, and I suspect she has some moments of lucidity in what I see as her madness. After all, sometimes, her endless hysterical laughter sounds like crying. Perhaps the Radiance simply can’t access her mind correctly, due to this insanity. Perhaps Emelitia is too far gone to succumb, even in her moments where she realized exactly how alone she is. She was an outcast amongst her peers during the kingdom's time so she wouldn't ever feel the need to leave her house during the time of the game, though she is aware of the fate of her peers by that point and would also probably know that going outside isn't safe, effectively making her a prisoner. I think that she just went crazy over time that her peers all shunned her yet fell prey to the infection, while her devotion to only the king's light carried her to survive as her entire society crumbled around her. This doesn't discount whatever effects the flowers may have but her behavior and survival can equally be attributed to her own stated past. It also doesn't help with Salubra at all... What store good store owner knows nothing about the products they sell? So even though Salubra is not an expert like Lemm is. Because she does collet and sell charms it would make sense for her to know a little bit about Hallownest's past. Lots of other NPC's say it is rare to see new bugs too but I can't name them all ATM. I just think Salubra is just happy in general and more importantly flirtatious she says many times that she thinks the knight is hot. That's why she is always laughing or in a good mood... She might just be down bad :P. Now Emilita on the other hand it is fairly clear she is being kept alive by the flowers around her. This is VERY noteworthy because this is yet another plant with special powers in a very long line of plants the have special powers. Such as: The Delicate flowers, possibly the flowers in Pharloom. The White Lady is a plant and God Seeker asks if she could be "one of them" what ever that means, Life Blood in some ways is a plant, Isma is a plant. You get the idea that plants are important in the world of Hollowknight and likely will be important to Silksong's lore too. Where I disagree is it is not any gas from the flowers is what's keeping Emilitia alive. You don't really see any smoke like effects in her room. What do you see? A faint pink light... Yep that's right I think it is the light from the flowers that is keeping Emilitia alive. What's really interesting about Emilitia's dialogue are two line that I think tell us everything. 1. She was a member of Hallownest's elite but was cast out for some unsaid/unstated/unknown reason, 2. She seems to know that the Delicate flower has some power to it. Saying its light is no match for the Pale King's light...BUT she needs to take care of her own flowers, she call's the delicate flower dim, and claims her flowers superior to the the delicate flower (possibly implying that her flowers are better than the pale king). So putting 2 and 2 together. We know the pale king did not like others using powers he did not approve of. We know how the Pale king felt about Life Blood. So it is not unreasonable to assume Emilitia's love of or position of her flowers IS what got her cast out from Hallownest's elite. As for what Emilitia's flowers are...Your guess is as good as mine. I am not sure or convinced it is higher being stuff...but is sure is interesting and worth keeping in the back of our minds for other future lore speculation
The issue is more with them not having any food, and just being normal bugs in a “normal” state. Jiji and Jinn were hibernating or something, jinn might be a robot or something, and jiji is so hungry when she wakes up that she’ll eat all the rancid eggs you bring her. The connection here (in terms of the flowers keeping them in that state of mind) is strong enough that I believe it, especially because, as said in the video, neither of them ever leave their tiny rooms. You can (sort of, not very well) explain away salubra’s laughing, but I don’t think you can just say “yeah she doesn’t feel like leaving” without bringing up questions.
@@bell2023 Ya but how many other NPCs do we see or hear eat talk about eating or wanting food? Not many. Not Sly....Not Elderbug, Not Bretta, not Zote. Where's my Hungry Hornet? Willing suspension of disbelief my guy

Oh and both sly and elderbug mention wanting food. Edit: I was incorrect, it’s only Elderbug. But also jiji and tuk need food, and it can be very reasonably assumed that they all do.
why are flowers so powerful in hollow knight? we really only see them two places, Emelitia and the delicate flower. Edit: you also see some in the Pleasure House
I'll say this, if you were baked off your mind off of mystical flowers & incense SO Strong that even the infection couldn't ensnare you & the unity of all minds wasn't tempting enough.... I want what they're having. I dunno might even be such a strong psychedelic that they're on their own worlds living out their greatest fantasies forever and that's why they don't leave......... Or everyone around them dying just made them shut in and go crazy 🤷
Great video, really like when less talked about characters are discussed. Only problem i could see in the theory is that having dream nail voice lines is indicative of the characters dreaming, since zote has one yet he states that he doesnt dream
Ogrim dosen't want to find out what happened to Isma, and guess what he's also laughing constantly. I don't think he's on flowers though I think he just puts himself in this mental state. Basically if you're more careless and there's no unnecessary memories and don't have lingering memories you're less vulnerable to infection.
That fate sounds fine to me. For real. How is that worse than death? You just don't care! Any reason you can come up with, doesn't matter. You don't care! It's 100% bliss...
Спасибо за новое видео, дружище! Я мог бы написать комментарий на английском, но не судьба... Довольно интересную тему ты поднял, как всегда! Ещё раз спасибо, что возвращаешься на Ютуб.
Although they have dreams, the flowers probably mess up their minds so much that they're completely happy as they are and can't possibly think of anything they could do to be happier, and so they don't have any dreams in the sense of goals, or cravings. For example, the crystal peaks people think they will be happier when they are rich and have crystals. Salubra doesn't think she can be any happier because the flower makes her only thinks about charms and she already has those so she's fine where she is
tbh I think that, hmm, "drugs" not connected with this. Salubra doesn't come out most likely due to her weight (it seems, she's not able to move at all) and she simply doesn't know what's happening outside, so she remains joyful. Emilitia doesn't want to go out at all so as not to die, and her laugh is kinda hysterical tho
6:09 Uh... You sure 'bout that? There seems to be a fairly large amount of what appears to be reddish-pink smoke in her room. Not as much as Salubra has, but still quite a lot.
I love that people like you and Mossbag are still looking into the minutiae of Hollow Knight lore, speculating about the tiniest details and still coming up with interesting and viable theories. Keep it up, we’re still very much interested! :D
Ok ok ok, just hear me out We know that there is a definite separation between soul and dream. We know each has a counter part, soul to void, and dream to nightmare. Let's talk about nightmare. If I'm reading between the lines correctly it seems that Nightmare is what you get when you take dream essence and "burn" it. The grim Troup uses the burning dream for seemingly everything, from lightning their lanterns (evidenced by the particle affects around the torch in the howling cliffs) to their sustaining the nightmare hart in the ritual. With that out of the way let's swap tracks to the soul-dream void-nightmare counterparts. We know that the delicate flowers which seem to be almost nothing but pure soul energy (evidenced by how the petals disintegrate after being exposed to enough void). We also have the whispering willow trees which are connected to dreem. If we are to follow the trend we can arrive at the conclusion that it is possible for other plants to exist that have connections to these substances counterparts. Now here's my idea. If a plant exists that is connect to nightmare, it can't possibly live vary long without an abundance of dream in the area. We know that burning essence gives off light visible even to those who can't see or deal with dream (ok we don't *know* that but I think it's a safe assumption due to elderbug and jijis reactions to the Troup). So those flowers have to give of some kind of light when in the presence of dream. What if amilitia flowers *are* the nightmare flowers, they glow because of the abundance of infection in the air Wich we know to be dreamborn, they burn up the infection keeping people near them safe! Diving further into speculation it is possible that salubaras incense is made from amilitia flowers and burning them offer similar affects, burning up the infection in the surrounding area. Another thing to note, as nightmare burns at dream, Wich we know to be connected to mind memory and thought, long-term exposure may cause damage to the mind and it is very slowly burned away.
Sorry for replying 1 year later, but I just wanted to say that I very much like this idea and wonder whether the dream trees are the "dream" plant, and the void imprint in the abyss is some form of void plant? Probably stupid. Anyway, hope silksong clears things up a bit.
I honestly think that lifeblood acts as a parasite. Seeing what Joni’s blessing does, that’s probably what it does in its final stage. It liquifies your insides, and turns you into a cocoon. The reason it gives you masks is because it acts as a curse in disguise. An unsuspecting bug eats the lifeblood for extra resistance, and catches the parasite. It would probably take a few years, which explains why the knight isn’t killed by it
Thats just raid ads in general honestly their annoying, but hey at least he has better delivery than most youtubers, sadly the script is probably supposed to be that long
Great video although one thing you missed that you literally show in the video and ignored was salubra’s dream nail dialogue She talks about he she is fearing for her life due to the present of the knight but she must keep appearing calm This means her mind isn’t completely fractured and she can still feel stuff besides endlessly laughing
Your animations make the world of Hollow Knight feel so much more alive than even in-game. It's been a joy so far binging your channel. Laughing forever doesn't sound that bad, I'd pick that over death.
The Pale King's light granted the bugs individual minds, probably meaning individual thoughts, aspirations, dreams, motivations, etc. Having a flower or other substance diminish that would outrage the king so he'd probably had them banned from the kingdom. Salubra being secluded in her village and Emilita being an outcast in the city's society put them both in positions where they could dabble with forbidden substances. If we ever saw more of Hallownest, I could imagine a little laughing commune tucked away somewhere safe near the City of Tears.
Lifeblood is an anti-infection. For one thing, it is the polar opposite color to the infection, and has similar properties, like the lifeseeds, but is different.
I think if calling the Pale Lurker "insane" it's clear that Emelitia is on that spectrum too. Whether or not she's on a substance or not is not really neccesary to explain anything. Same with Salubra. From their dialogue Emelitia seems to swing between genuine schadenfreude, and despair, whilst Salubra almost seems like she's dissociating somewhat; her phrasing implies there are people in the village as far as she knows, but at times there is: Menderbug and Sly are there, even if you don't count the husks. It could be that if anything the insence in Salubra's shop is opium, which would make some sense if you take into consideration when she likely made her shop and the general style of most of the "civilised" parts of Hallownest. Emelitia could be starving for all we know, in some sense of the word, and long term loneliness, great suffering, and starvation can lead to delirium, which could fully explain her state. In contrast the Pale Lurker is like a feral; barely cohesive in thought, and trying desperately to protect herself - her traps and running away. Honestly, everyone in the game is somewhere on the "not quite sane" spectrum.
Quick question, we see lightseeds in the crossroads only once it is infected, however it also appears in the ancient basin. I understand why they appear in the crossroads(because it is infected), but what makes the ancient basin special enough to have these, considering the infection hasn’t affected nearby areas as badly?
Honestly, so many people are caught up in the ideas the Undertale posed - is it necessary to kill to survive? does showing mercy give you a better outcome? That a lot of people ignore the follow up questions we see in Hollow Knight. What is mercy? Maybe death is a mercy compared to eternity. A song that never ends is no song at all.
A more morbid theory is that the red flowers that Emelita and Salubra use as incense are Poppy flowers. Poppy seeds can be used in baked goods like muffins, however when the flower is burnt, the chemical in the flower-opium-to feel a certain high. This would make sense as their constant laughing behavior and the fact the infection hasn’t killed them yet are both answerable by the fact they are constantly high-but it also explains how they live so long if they decide to convert the flowers into some type of food. This even matched the “fate worse than death” the video mentioned-they’re addicts to the drug and see no purpose in life other than to get high and in Emelita’s case watch the world burn. As for anyone wondering why the Knight/Ghost isn’t affected, perhaps the fact they are made of void makes them naturally immune to certain poisons like the Gulka mentioned at the beginning of the video. Why in God’s name would they need Isma’s Tear, IDK-probably a concession made by Team Cherry to make a pool of liquid that will damage you until a certain upgrade.
I hate to burst the bubble, but I feel you forgot to mention the part of dream nail dialogue with salubra which directly implies that she knows there's little to no life outside her hut, setting her on edge but reminding her she needs to keep up appearance anyway. As for Emilita, I think she's just crazy and loves the fact she outlived (broad statement) her fellow city denizens who outcasted her. That's just my two cents though.

@@earthboundkid1 But are any of those NPCs trapped in their rooms forever? All of them have access to food (besides those of them who are in some sort of dormant state).
And what about them both explicitly never leaving their rooms?
(And both laughing? Salubra constantly before she ever even sees you. And both having a pink glow around them?)
Oh and both sly and elderbug mention wanting food.
Edit: I was incorrect, it’s only Elderbug. But also jiji and tuk need food, and it can be very reasonably assumed that they all do.
@@bell2023 Salubra leaves when you aren't looking or the game is off there happy :P.
i always thought salubra just laughed at how tiny and cute the knight is
edit:compared to their size
why are flowers so powerful in hollow knight? we really only see them two places, Emelitia and the delicate flower.
Edit: you also see some in the Pleasure House
*cough cough*
the entirety of queen's gardens
very good editing in this one
One of the best videos I've seen from you. Great editing, solid pacing, funny jokes, surprise existential crisis, every box checked
Love receiving more lore from my favorite bug game. Love the the video Cc keep up the good work ❤
I'll say this, if you were baked off your mind off of mystical flowers & incense SO Strong that even the infection couldn't ensnare you & the unity of all minds wasn't tempting enough....
The editing in this video is soooooo beautiful! Great job cc
Bug weed
Yes
Bug weed
Ogrim dosen't want to find out what happened to Isma, and guess what he's also laughing constantly. I don't think he's on flowers though I think he just puts himself in this mental state.
Basically if you're more careless and there's no unnecessary memories and don't have lingering memories you're less vulnerable to infection.
That fate sounds fine to me. For real. How is that worse than death? You just don't care! Any reason you can come up with, doesn't matter. You don't care! It's 100% bliss...
I love the Knight plush scenes you made lmao
- Ccmaci : That was depressing.
The Bass : I got you.
that outro is just great and for some reason i find it funny
Спасибо за новое видео, дружище! Я мог бы написать комментарий на английском, но не судьба... Довольно интересную тему ты поднял, как всегда! Ещё раз спасибо, что возвращаешься на Ютуб.
Merci le traducteur automatique de youtube ;)
@@bonjourcava2493 indeed
The classiest Raid plug ever. Well done, Cc. X) Also, fun lore idea.
I never thought of that. I believe 100%
I feel like I don't have a purpose but I don't want to die, I like living.
Respect
These edits are god tier
they off the galaxy gas
Do charm lore while your on the topic of Salubra
I really enjoy these kind of speculation videos, keep up the great work ❤️
9:05 I was starting to feel depressed and then I laughed so hard xD
I ADORE your editing!
Salubra is just high as hell dawg
Ok ok ok, just hear me out
We know that there is a definite separation between soul and dream.
Wow, that's a lot
Sorry it sounds so disorganized, and I know it's mainly speculation, but I think it's interesting to think about at the very least.
Sorry for replying 1 year later, but I just wanted to say that I very much like this idea and wonder whether the dream trees are the "dream" plant, and the void imprint in the abyss is some form of void plant? Probably stupid. Anyway, hope silksong clears things up a bit.
The sponsor transition with the coughing Knight Plush was intresting
Lol the segway to that sponsorship almost killed me.
So the message is... want to survive the zombie apocalypse? Do laughing gas!
It would probably take a few years, which explains why the knight isn’t killed by it
"yeah... Lets wait for silksong."
148 years later: ok so here's my theory on lifeblood...
Raid ad really had to take up ten percent of the video
Thats just raid ads in general honestly their annoying, but hey at least he has better delivery than most youtubers, sadly the script is probably supposed to be that long
Great video although one thing you missed that you literally show in the video and ignored was salubra’s dream nail dialogue
She talks about he she is fearing for her life due to the present of the knight but she must keep appearing calm
This means her mind isn’t completely fractured and she can still feel stuff besides endlessly laughing
2:10 I NEED that knight puppet!
The fact that it looks like he's fading in and out of reality at 2:09
Lifeblood is an anti-infection.
The Hunter did Acid
2:08 cmooooooOOOOON BRO COUGHED US INTO THE SPONCORED PART
2:32 I have the same feeling has ccmaci , I see the sponsor everywhere
Guess 1: they’re high Guess 2: They’re insane
Our boi got sponsor !✌🏼👽
while ive seen so many raid shadow legends sponsors that intro was making me die man seeing the knight as a plushie scream
Tbh best sponsors intro ever XD dint expect it
God I admire the Quality in your Videos. Always a Shame People dont sub enough to see it.
They must have infinite lung capacity for all the air they have to use while laughing....
Another one has fallen from the onslaughts of money brought in by raid. STAY STRONG SOLDIERS
I love your content!
"Let's wait for Silksong..." *Video ends*
it sounds like they are just extreme introverts
It was funny to see the ghost get so high that they were yeeted into an alternate universe...
This is the smoothest raid shadow legends sponsor transition i have seen
I love the new editing style
Omg when the Knight turns around and screams he looks so adorable haha his little head 😂
1:14 Ok let's meet In 42 years
As a mighty warrior once said, "(if a dude wishes to prevent infection,) perhaps he should consider not breathing (the non-drugged air)."
I knew salubra was up to something
Came here for the lore, left with existential crisis
How the hell does he only have 21k subs?
so theyre so high they stopped thinking and are therefore unable to get infected
10:00 “it shoots hard spiky balls at you”
"All you gotta do is just-
Come outside, give me your-" And that's as far as I can figure out.
FIRSTZ AND GOOD JOB CC
Edit: la drogas
9:01 Oh for heccs sake.

This is what happens when a Fandom doesn't get any content for 3 years, not that the theory is bad, just sounds completely insane, and is the product of not having anything to theorize about
