Probably the coolest part is that the Archipelago randomizer system is built to be a multiworld randomizer, SC2 is just one of the games it supports, and they can be combined into one randomized world. So not only do you have this super cool randomizer, but you can even play it with other people playing other SC2 campaigns, or different games altogether. So performing these objectives could, for instance, send a weapon to Dark Souls 3, or bombs to a Zelda game, and in turn they can send you items too for picking up an item, fighting a boss, or opening a chest. No other RTS games are as yet supported unless you count Factorio, I guess, but the list grows all the time. It's great for if you have no friends that play SC2 but they do play other games, hah.
That's absolutely insane, I can only imagine how crazy it would be if they added support for more RTS titles and Grant got a few friends together, each playing through one game while they're all interconnected
@@scrapbotcommander It was very lucky break that Starcraft 2 was able. The issue with archipelago is that there has to be a way for an outside program to interact with the game. A lot of times this is difficult, but Starcraft 2 had the lucky break in that Blizzard released API libraries for AI research which is what was used for AlphaZero. Those libraries were used to communicate with the game and handle all the background stuff needed for Archipelago to run.
One of the best parts about randomizers (imo) is seeing what you get to unlock. I really like how you cut out the boring parts but please leave the unlocks in.

what happened with the shadowfury herc is that SCV's & medics can heal from inside of the herc (& marines can stim in a bunker), so units inside of the herc are coded to be able to cast their spells as long as they dont need to be targeted by the player. when they coded that interaction for the herc the DT didnt have shadowfury yet; they didn't code an exception for the two interactions. they (IIRC) have fixed it but arphipelago apparently uses the old herc code
I've been going through all-campaign archipelago randomizers lately too, such an incredibly fun way to play. In the early game you're carefully picking and choosing any mission you think you can complete with your current units or sometimes you're so desperate that you're willing to go into a mission you know you can't win just to grab some bonus objectives to unlock some stuff before you lose. Then in the late game you're crazy OP with everything so you get to really mix and match cool combinations of units and explore beating missions with units you usually wouldn't have at that part of the game
@@TheCuriousFan1 Like in Maw of the Void, all he had to do to get everything was just to sit there and Yamato the Mothership once it came into range, then just wait until it came back into range no matter how long it took. He also did not use the shield ability nearly as often as he should have, especially when he was getting hit with psi storms. Granted, it likely would have taken another 20mins to do it that way, but it would have guaranteed full victory, and less damage. But fatigue is one hell of an enemy, and it would have made other missions even harder to play.

Happy to see the Archipelago mod return - Grant getting trolled by fire units, fire units and more fire units across the start of the original mod showcase is easily one of my favourite moments (well more like an entire arc than a moment really) across all of Grant's uploaded playthroughs so far.
My only disappointment with the vod (and its more myself for not having patience in retrospect) is that in my eagerness to consume more Grant content, i watched the vod on twitch like 2 weeks ago.
when grant mentions tank on train mission is a meme during my randomizer run i had the Draken laser drill that made it a meme the trains would not even exit the tunnel lmao
The final rip-field generator (and the 2nd to last one) have no detection near them once those 3 canons north are cleared. They can be taken with DT with 0 danger. The central generator (which is usually camped by 2 carriers) can also be taken by DTs without issue.
Thanks for your videos and all the good vibes you put out. Your videos always come out shortly after I get off work and have become part of my nightly relaxing and decompressing before bed.
Too far into a long stream to realize at the time, but every three cyclones on the last mission could have been one BC, which while it sucks without upgrades, at least has the benefit of not being able to be hit by the brood lords. BC/banshee was always the best way to get that mission done.
I think Grant should flex Archipelago more. Maybe play simultaneously with Jay or someone, try to help each other beat their respective randomized campaigns!
Iirc the Cyclone's Lock On behaves like Widow Mines - only one Cyclone will Lock On to a particular enemy, unless you manually order the rest to target that same enemy. In any case, thanks Grant for uploading these. Always wanted to try the Archipelago randomiser, but could never figure out how to get it to work.
Can't help but wonder if this last mission wouldn't have been about a million times easier if Grant stuck with his BC guns. Bad as the BC is, I think the cyclone is worse as a front-line unit. At least the BC has good anti-muta guns and immunity to brood lords.
I feel like...and I understand Grant played for along time and was tired and probably forgot, but during Haven's Fall... wouldnt it have been easier to mass Marine and stutter step? the banshee didnt fall out of use in multiplayer bc Blizzard balanced them to no longer be instantly game-ending, they fell off because they added the Liberator to the game which is way better at what the banshee does, does it safely with nearly or more than twice the range, costs about the same AND can be reactored edit: oh yeah and it has an AA attack. its not useful, but its interesting to note that the tech lab banshee was decided to be too strong & any amount of them must be hard-countered by a single AA fly, but the far superior reactor liberator which can't be countered by ground units at all must also be able to win some air fights. just to give an idea of how Blizzard feels about race balancing (they dont)
