I once was an angry social justice warrior, then became an angry conservative, and now I feel God gently steering me away from all this. Politics are way too toxic and it instigates fear of the other. It's a relief not to be angry and fearful anymore. I just hope and pray America finds a way out of all the poison.

Matthew 24:6 "be not alarmed"...the enemy wants us to be afraid, worried, distracted. So if something it stirring that up in you, it's not from God.
We are called to fear not, over and over and over again. God doesn't want us angry, afraid, and distracted from His business.

So this is just basic Reformed eschatology, amill/postmill/preterist; everything's symbolism that was fulfilled in the first century. Reformed theology is generally awesome if you don't include the train wreck of their eschatology.
It's just utterly ridiculous the way these guys bend over backwards to over symbolize everything. Look you can't read Revelation like it's not connected to the book of Daniel, the Gospels and especially 1 and 2 Thessalonians. Daniel was really specific about what was coming and we've already seen how Christ's first coming was accurate down to the year that Daniel prophesied. Now his second coming and the time of Jacob's trouble is just a bunch of symbolism that was fulfilled in 70 AD with the destruction of the temple? Considering the book wasn't written until the late 80s or even as late as 95 AD... not a chance.
The real elephant in the room that theses Reformed guys totally ignore is 1 and 2 Thess. I mean how they just act like those books don't exist or have any bearing one's interpretation of Revelation is insane. They are two letters that contain ZERO symbolism. None. And they explain very clearly what Christ's return will entail and how we will literally meet him in the cloud just as he left us. Then 2 Thess goes on to explain that that day will not come unless two things happen first, the falling away and the revealing of the Son of Perdition who Jesus himself will destroy by his coming. The church will face Antichrist and the Lord will destroy Antichrist by his coming. None of that is symbolism. None of that happened in the first century.
It's just so crazy to watch these guys ignore what's right in front of their face because they so doggedly want to stick to their systematic theologies.

I think race, the environment, justice, violence, drugs etc. are all important things to discuss and try to do better on. But I think it’s time the church and people in general look at whose causing all those issues and making it worse, the government. I’ll admit I’m extremely libertarian, possibly an anarchist(no I don’t believe in violence), but I think we would be better off dismantling institutions completely and not trying to reform everything. Whose definition of "Justice", man's or God's and is there a difference? See, the world doesn't want "biblical justice" they want vengeance which belongs to God alone. Biblical Justice is one of 2 options: 1) God wipes out all sin and all sinners, or 2) A savior is provided to save us from "biblical justice". Any other discussion of "biblical justice" is a man made ideology. The person that wants human justice now, actually needs more protection from God's justice. Not one of us has been wronged by a human more than we have personally wronged God (which is the bad news of the good news gospel). Preach that to those who want "justice" and see what they say.

Lost me from 42:49 How can you compare care for the souls with care for the environment as if they are both Gospel issues, I see he is still in his woke path. Biblical justice? Why does justice needs and adjective. What does he mean by that?

The Old Testament law talks quite a lot about justice, as does Proverbs. I have a feeling he's talking about that when he says "Biblical justice". Although he didn't define what he believes Biblical justice is, and I think a definition from him would've been helpful, at least for me.
It's possible he uses the term "Biblical justice" to differentiate from worldly justice? Just my thoughts

Great to hear a different perspective on Revelation. Sadly, many many churches have submitted to the State, they want to obey the state, love the state and worship the state. We are living in the separating of the wheat from the chaff and is totally God's work.

    • @Tina-Marie-iz8zy
      @Tina-Marie-iz8zy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@matthewmclain461 Idolizing the State is truly the Churches' main sin today. When you would rather obey the State's dictates than Gods you are worshipping the State. Consider this:
Christians are being publicly chastised by Christian authors, in the media, for not obeying the mandates, being publicly called out for allegedly unloving behaviour. Christians are being denied fellowship in their churches, not because of sin, but because they are following their god-given conscience. Christians are being denied jobs or fired from ministry because they are obeying their conscience. These severe punishments are being brought by the very Christians, for whom covid-19 vaccination is an alleged expression of love for their neighbour. Vaccinated Christians have become willing agents of the State to bring pain and suffering to Christians who cannot violate their conscience. Make no mistake, what is happening now is a fundamental rewriting of the popularist mindset of what it means to be a Christian, both inside and outside the church.

The Beast is much more likely a type of "spiritual institution" that cannot be killed by humans- no matter how pure of mind and soul. Only God can destroy this " Beast". So, I also see the Beast as the " spirit if the age " that creates Beastly institutions with Beastly policies. Ephesians 6 :12 confirms my thinking : not fighting flesh and blood rather principalities and powers in high places. High places, I would consider to be the Ether ( spiritual realm) . Not to say that Fallen Angels did not/does not exist. I think the fallen Angels has been/are controlled/guided by the Beast system/ Beast Spirit of the past and current times. 🥼☠💉Hence the corruption of most Institutions via these evil policies. 💉☠💀🥼

Thank you all, that was really helpful and well-handled. I see this where I am too (in the UK), with people putting their hope in government and being consistently and regularly let down... and yet, they return with a renewed vigour on this when a new party or leader rises and is instituted, only to be be let down again. There's a real pain in the hearts of the people now, because that kind of 'trust' is exhausting. It's an incredible time to get the gospel out there, because people are so lacking in hope, even though they continue to place their hope in these man-made/worldly systems.

I don’t agree with Matt because of Joshua 9-13 parallels revelation 6:1-3, and I don’t agree that it’s the anti christ spirit or churches like he suggests in his sermons. I believe that it’s talking about the true churches of Christ, because it’s consistent with revelation 1-4/19:11-16, but I believe the woman is Israel and her children are the churches throughout history that endure. I believe Revelation is talking about Israel in chapters 17-18, and I believe Romans 11 parallels well with revelation 7 and Revelation 14 and honestly when you look at the bottom of revelation 7 it takes care of the whole issue of ”what about the other nations”. I think scripture is pretty clear and we shouldn’t have to over spiritualize the book of revelation.

21 They gather themselves together against the soul of the righteous, and condemn the innocent blood.
22 But the LORD has been my high tower, my God, the rock of my refuge.

The Bible also says love your enemies and pray for those PERSECUTING Christ’s true followers. (MATTHEW 5:44) Praying for people in no way suggests they deserve or have God’s favor. Jesus taught that government officials/agents would be the PRIMARY PERSECUTORS of his true followers. (MATTHEW 10:17-18; MARK 13:9; LUKE 21:12-13)
We are given a reason as to why Christ’s followers should offer prayers and supplication for government leaders. It is for the purpose that Christ’s true followers go on living a quiet and peaceful life with all godly devotion and holiness.
      1 TIMOTHY 2:1-2
I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people-
1Ti 2:2 - for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
It’s not for the support of their positions nor in allegiance with their nation. It’s purpose is for Christ’s followers not to be harassed, oppressed, or persecuted if at all possible.

And I would say because, any preacher or teacher can look back at a sermon or lesson they preached 5, 10, 15 years ago and would probably want grace for what they said at times. He's really good on all of those topics, very gentle, respectful, and he's totally on board with understanding the evil spiritual forces behind cultural and political movements in the kingdoms of this world. As an Anabaptist I'd love to see somebody who agrees with us on nonviolence have a seat at the table in this conversation.

One question I just thought of for Pastor Matt is: in Revelation 6, when it talks about the 4th seal, the pale horse and how it kills a fourth (1/4) of the people on earth (vs 7-8) - how is this interpreted? Would this be jn reference to events that have already happened? Or future events, not yet fulfilled? I'm open to hearing any of your thoughts (Matt, Josh or Michael).

So much good and challenging content here. Any comment I make is simply going to fail to sufficiently engage with what was discussed. But, I can say that even though I disagree with Chandler's position on eschatology as a futurist, I feel like so much of what he said here can be, in principle, positively applied to almost any eschatological position.
As far as content goes, where I found the most agreement was in his recognition of the government's role in "the Beast system". My own study of Revelation has had the most impact on my life in terms of evoking joy and true contentment with the Kingdom of God. I used to be very involved in politics and struggled with depression, anger, and discontentment. Since I stopped looking to the government, I am walking in the joy of the Spirit, I don't hate my "enemies", and I'm content knowing the providence and provision of God. So, unsurprisingly, where I think I found the most disagreement was in Chandler's view that Christians should still put *some* (not all, but some) hope in the beast system for advancing the Kingdom of God. I understand where he's coming from because there are questions that arise about Christians who hold public office. And I don't blame him for wanting to speak to these kinds of issues with some nuance in order to avoid extremes, but I'm mindful that Scripture's command to Christians is "come out of her my people so that you don't share in her sins and partake of her plagues".
Regardless of where one falls on these questions, this interview is a contribution to the subject of Revelation (which is a rare achievement these days)! Well done!

We should not deal with worldly issues with worldly solutions. Worldly problems require kingdom solutions (from the church!) The gospel is the same. The commands are the same. Love the Lord your God, love your neighbor and do good, pray for your enemies. Feed the poor. Share Jesus. Pray.

Wow, this was NOT good. I had high hopes, but he treated Revelation more like a novel open to malleable interpretation than writings interpreted clearly by the Scriptures themselves. His intellectual opining lacked firm Scriptural and historical support. Videos by Walter Veith offer far more solid support for interpreting Revelation and the beast. Also, in Revelation the beast is a singular entity, not Nazis, Rome, and innumerable other powers since the beginning of time.

The thing that occurs to me listening to Matt Chandler talking about how this is our time to stay strong and move the church forward is that Matt Chandler's theology is divine determinism so he's there advocating that we do things that either God will decree us to do or not. Our thoughts, emotions, plans, ideas, etc have nothing to do with it. God decrees whatsoever He wills to come to pass for his own good pleasure, right? Chandler comes across as extremely hypocritical. If you believe in Calvin, then believe in Calvin. Don't preach sermons about the doctrines of grace and then live your life as a libertarian. Be consistent.

I really liked this right up until he repeatedly uses the phrase “biblical justice” without defining it. That sounds good but it would be important to actually articulate what that means.
Because it was the rise of Marxism in the American church in the early and mid 20th century that coopted that term to mean exactly the “dragon” system outlined earlier. If you keep using the term without defining it, you only promote confusion and division.

I get it that people like Matt and other "pastors" of churches are very smart "book" people and God loves those people. At the same time, people like Matt, and Joshua Lewis and Michael Rowntree have never been tested. You have never feed the homeless only to have God tell you, "I'm going to make you homeless too". You have a wife. You have children. You have a family. God has blessed your career! Just saying. You call that tested? A bad day to you is, traffic was bad today!
I remember when Jehovah told me that He was going to take me thru a Job like experience and that I would lose my family, career and everything. At the time, I was feeding the homeless and ministering to hispanic children in the North side of Fort Worth where Mexican Gangs thrive. God put me there and I did it for free!!!. And my reward was God telling me, "I'm going to take you thru a Job Experience". Could Rowntree, Josh Lewis or even this Matt Chandler relate? No!!! No way. You have no idea what it is like to be tested and that is the truth. Writing from Peru!

This is a pretty astonishing post - so, what you're saying is that you know what it is to suffer, and therefore you've somehow been elevated above these three guys? Did you mean for this to come over with the level of pride that it does? Matt Chandler (as mentioned in another post here) has been through the mill and come out the other side. It sounds like you're saying that only people who have been through the kinds of struggles you have been through are authenticated - that's a very dangerous place to put yourself before the Lord.
