    Excellent video. Lots of bad rear brake adjustment videos on TH-cam that do not deal with adjusting free play. Thanks for showing how to do it correctly.

    Thank you! I’m a new rider. Had my bike for about a month. Took it out to the desert this weekend and rode it for the longest in one go that I have and this happened. I was so confused and losing my mind. Went back to camp, let it cool down while I did some googling, hit the brake and it released. Took it back out and it was back to normal. I’ve been researching why it happened and this is spot on. Just adjusted it. Thank you!

    Great video! Very simple but frustrating adjustment for the bike when done incorrectly. Once the fluid heats up it expands and you start to feel drag. Keep going and it locks the brake solid and will cause the rear disc to glow and potentially warp. I've seen it done.

    Excellent video, I had the exact same thing happen to me and I even test rode it after adjusting it around my shop for about 10 minutes and it seemed fine then after 30 minutes up in the mountains mine locked up. I had to send Buddy back down to the truck to get a 10mm wrench 🙈

    Great video. I feel like i can set up my rear brake pretty easily after watching this. Also, I feel like it was revealed at 5:34 that a Golden Retriever was actually doing the commentary the whole time.

    New to enduro I had the problem described. Rear brake locked up. In my case the locknut for pedal height was missing. Great explanation and video, thanks.

      Thanks. The tip is a Pro-Pegs Titanium Brake Tip. I really like it. It's quite a bit bigger than the standard tip. The feel and grip is very good and because it's titanium the teeth should stay sharp for a long time.

    I had the rear brake lockup on my new Ducati Monster 1200R because there wasn’t enough free play. So much for dealer prep. Of course finding a service manual for a new Ducati was next to impossible. Deal had to replace the rear rotor, pads and abs wiring harness because it had melted through the insulation. I wasn’t tuned into what was happening because I thought it was just new bike smell. It locked up before I got to an intersection thankfully otherwise I would have been stuck in the middle of traffic. I was all kinds of pissed that day.

    Just wondering, at the end you provide some suggestions for a mod if someone has low mounted pegs, and needs to remove the lock nut. Would swapping the adjuster nut for a ni-lock type nut achieve the same results?

      Pleased to hear that you enjoyed the video. No, if a significantly lower brake pedal position is desired you'd need to either make the lock nut thinner, or completely remove the lock nut and threadlock the upper adjuster in place. The upper adjuster looks like a nut when assembled with the rubber boot in place, but it's actually a one piece part (search for "54813056000 PUSH ROD L=28MM 03" and you should find a photo of it).

    The rear brake on my 2017 Husqvarna would lock up any time I got into slow technical riding where you use it a lot. Problem is I use my fastway pegs in the lowboy position. And I like my lever below level, and I don't like a lot of free play. I couldn't get it to stop locking up until I bled the brakes with motul rbf 600 and installed an in-line heat sink. That still wasn't enough so I added a computer cpu heat sink on top of the rear caliper.

      It's a *whole* lot easier to just set the free play correctly.. Also, do you use metallic rear brake pads?
      If so, try using *organic* rear pads - they transfer less heat into the caliper (and therefore, brake fluid).

    Great Video,
    I had followed your video to setup the positioning on rear brake lever height for my comfort.
    The bike is on a bike stand and after adjusting the free play at 4mm as suggested per spec.
    The brake pad and rotor are now very tight and rear tire can barely rotate.
    Is this common?

      I'm sure you solved this by now.. but, the free play is the dead space before you can feel the brake pressure kick in. It's rather slight, probably why KTM recommends removing the brake spring. It's not the full travel to stop. I did it with the spring on though.

    As the pads wear, is it normal to have to adjust the free play from time to time? Or is it a one time set and forget?

      No, you shouldn't need to readjust the free play.

    Hi Mark... what is the right tork spec for the big nut to install the brake lever? I couldn’t find on the ktm manual. My bike is 2020 Six Days 350cc

      It's M10 so 45Nm should be good
