Man do I feel this. It's crazy how family can betray you. My mother cheated on my father and left him for another man but they never divorced, 2 years later he passed in a car accident. He had taken her off his life insurance policy and added me, left everything else to me including his house and she tried to take me to court over it! She demanded I let her and her boyfriend live in his house rent free even though my Grandmother was living there as my dad had moved her in and she wanted me to kick her out! She also wanted half of his life insurance. If only you knew all the terrible things she said and tried to do. She even tried to go to the bank the day AFTER he died and tried to get back into his account! Thankfully he had taken her off all the accounts but she tried to say because they were still technically married (which they were although legally separated) that I needed to give her everything. Even his personal things. I don't speak to her anymore.
Man so sorry to hear this. My mother and I don't get along either. Not because of something like this as my dad's still alive thankfully. But, I can understand and appreciate exactly how it is to have to cut your own mother out of your life. It's a sad thing to have to do...
I feel for you man. Some of us(me included) have vile selfish family. And it sucks cause you never expect your family to actually do it and be that way.
Stories like this make me sick to my stomach. Sadly, I hear these stories far too often. I hope this situation doesn’t deter you from seeing the good in certain people. There are still some of us left. Praying for you and everybody else whos souls are still intact despite the evils which we are surrounded by constantly 🙏
He did standup in my city, and after the show he came back out for almost an hour, and just talked to people and answered questions. He did a great set, but his engagement after was awesome. Such a genuine nice guy, I really gained a lot of respect for him after that. He talked very open and honest about himself, I’m really glad he got some resolution after his brother screwed him
Can you imagine getting to the point where you don’t even need to check your finances? I look at my bank account like 5 times a day and say “yup, still broke.”
It would be nice to be so rich to not notice someone stealing millions from you. But other times I'm glad I'm not rich because I'd probably be like most rich people and be an ass.
It's not just about richness. I grew up poor, I'm currently doing okay but not well off by any means. Financial anxiety generally has me push any thought of finances, bills, etc completely out of my head. I used to never check my bank account, talking 1-2 years without checking. And I often had a sinking feeling that I had no money in the bank, but when I inevitably checked it had only grown of course. Because I grew up poor I just live extremely frugally. Had $300 rent and almost no other bills, so my weekly $500 paycheck meant I didn't really have to look at my accounts. It's taken years to break these habits and I still struggle to check into my finances

It seems like Dane thought of this half-sibling as a full brother that he loved, while the thieving D-bag saw Dane as an ATM. If he didn't think Dane paid him enough, he should've kept his prison job. Now he's back at the prison.

Y'all's family situations suck, I'm sorry. Never tell others, especially whom you don't know, that they shouldn't do something based on your narrow experience. People often forget how separated their life experience is from another to the next. There are good families who love and trust one another, and there are broken families. Coming from two families that split, my mother's family is a dysfunctional cesspool of negativity and malice, whilst my dad's family is loving, trusting, and hold no judgement towards one another. I trust those people with my life and belongings, as for my mother's side, I can't say the same. Just because your circumstance led you to that conclusion, doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. Humans are tribal by nature, and family is, probably, the most accessible tribe to be a part of. Don't forget the capacity for humanity; especially the millions of facets of it that you have not, and most likely, will not experience. The internet can and will only do so much for it's user in our search for understanding and I truly believe we, as a general populous, often fail to consider that. Just a thought. It's hard to make such a claim. I wonder how bad the Jews or China would treat your money? Maybe even your local church?
Wow. The way he handled that…he turned a deeply frightening and devastating situation into an opportunity to pick himself up and work even harder. A lot of people would have been broken and laid down and given up.

@@RideForLifeCR250R Having a majority of your money stolen from you can be EXTREMELY devastating, especially when your entire career explicitly revolves around your ability to get people to like you enough to give you their money so you can live. Honestly I think that he and she applied the context to themselves without speaking, ironically showing they aren’t precisely sociopaths. Even if they have chameleon tendencies. I think they experienced some stuff that made them a little more capable of finding that place. Where their emotions for whatever reason aren’t lining up correctly. Happens with trauma, where it makes it difficult to feel the emotions of a stressful situation directly. Or feeling the wrong emotion. Disassociation. Or depersonalization. And in those states you don’t or can’t process emotions correctly. Add in some bad habits, like lying or some other coping mechanism in youth. Yeah the joke that Tom is a sociopath isn’t without merit. But he wouldn’t see how that story related to him if he was.

@Not Robot So you think it's poetic justice for borrowing one or two jokes? I don't like Dane Cooks comedy much but 99% of the material he does is his. I actually watched the Louis episode where he and Dane discuss Dane borrowing his joke without realising he'd taken it. I mean think about it dude why would Dane steal a joke from his friend and put it on an album? Makes no sense that he would do that intentionally unless there was beef and Louis was rumoured to be harsh on male comedians who were good looking so maybe Dane took it after Louis roasted him a little too hard? I'd buy that more than Dane Cooks is an evil talentless hack who deserves to have his money stolen by his own brother. BTW joke theft has been happening since the dawn of stand-up and will only get worse now as everyone thinks they're a comedian on social media so it's easier than ever. @djohnson6528 My feeling exactly! Foolishness to trust others with your money (even/especially family).... people like Dane are always busy running their life on the road. Unfortunately not taking the time to check up on his finances cost him big.... but consider that a lot of very savvy people that were "on top" of their money fell victim to Bernie Madoff.... so Dane isn't unique in being a victim.
Dane really has a great sense of how to tell a story. It always sounds genuine and honest. I hope he's able to find a resurgence and it's nice to see the hate start to dissolve.
Comedians test “real jokes” and bounce me off each other all the time. If you think that joke is cold, you don’t have the constitution for the real behind the scenes crap they tell each other.
That was hilarious!! It’s a flippin joke!! It wasn’t cold. It was funny. You have to be able to laugh at mistakes from the past, especially when you’re a comedian! Dane shouldn’t have trusted his ex-convict bro to manage his $ & never make sure everything was all good.

Sooo true. I was never a Dane Cook fan. After hearing this though (having had 6 figures stolen from me by my own family) I have the utmost empathy for him as a man & as a person.
Dont feel bad for him. Many people are less fortunate. My dad drank himself to death and my mom was murdered. @@nicholaskellam7767 Really for no reason other than laziness. He doesn't have the credit to get one financed but he could have just paid cash. Its been over 20k on the rental so far. And during the past year while renting the car he bought a older work truck, put some new wheels on it and drove it once. @Thomas Foster Saying "don't be happy for someone/yourself because other people have it better" is not alike. Its why you never hear anyone say it. Good is the exact opposite of bad. There is nothing wrong with feeling empathy for someone, but different levels of hardship do deserve different levels of empathy. I didn't want it though, I was just saying dont waste it on him. Someone who stubbed their toe and someone who broke their neck dont deserve the same amount, and you shouldn't waste any on the person with a hurt toe. In this situation though I was saying he didn't deserve it because it was a fairly normal situation. Most people his age have parents who have passed away and probably a sibling who has stolen from them too. I wasn't "using the shit things that happened to me to detract from the shit things that happen to other people." I was using the little worse than normal things that happened to me show the normal + great things that happened to him didnt deserve empathy. Be happy for someone who still has their parents and good siblings not sad for people who dont. And be happy for Dane for all the great things that have happened to him not sad for the bad/normal things that happened. When you have something bad happen think about how worse it could have been, then you can be grateful for the bad thing. Some call it "always looking on the bright side".
This is so crazy. Damn, he's been through so much with his family. The more I find out about him the more things make sense. I'm glad people aren't hating on him so much, now.
I use to be a Correctional officer . some C.O.'s are as bad as the convicts they guard . and it's sad but family will often screw you over worse then anyone else .
@floatpool We had a gang of blk female guards that all had braided hair-do's with a bun or top knot . that top knot was actually a small plastic jar covered in hair braid . they could screw it off and hide contraband in it . we discovered this when one woman's hair STARTED RINGING !!!! she had a flip phone hidden in there !!!! .
Fuckin A! The cute & clever sayings we’ve all heard,”blood is thicker than water” , “in the end all you’ve got is your family” etc.. are exactly what, they are, cute sayings! Human beings in general are selfish. There’s nothing about a person being family(blood) that’ll keep them from doing to you, what a stranger or friend(water) would do.
The implications made here (and all over these comments) that family members are more likely to "fuck you over" and even worse than friends or strangers is just ridiculous. Does it happen? Of course. But, these implications flying around are just silly. My family is pretty toxic, but no one's ever stolen from me, or anything close to that, etc. Friends sure have. I understand that's just colloquial evidence, but no friends I've ever had walked around talking about how exploited they were by their family. You people seem like you're not really thinking very much about what you're saying...and though it sounds like It, I'm not trying to be disrespectful.
This is why It shits me when my wife says "but they're family!", who cares about that if they're assholes. Having the same blood as someone doesnt mean shit, its how people treat you that matters.
You're an even worse person if you steal from your own family. As far as I'm concerned you're no longer my brother if you pull this kind of shit on me.
I grew up in a tight knit, very close family. Now most of them are dead, and it wasn't until after the fact that I learned the difference between relatives and family, and realized that so many "friends of the family" were family. Family doesn't mean blood, family is based off of love and trust. You can't help who you're related to, some relatives are family, and some people who were complete strangers can become closer to you than any sibling.
You only have one shot with me , it’s a very painful life , but I don’t tolerate lying or funny stuff ..when your with somebody that doesn’t understand your feelings, they try make you make exceptions for their family name it becomes hard against you , but blood makes zero excuses for me ..steal from me , we are done .
I saw Dane at the Laugh Factory one night in LA and was not only hilarious but saw him after and told him that he was great and he stopped, shook my hand, chatted for a bit. He’s a genuinely kind person.

*walks around manically* You know how, when you give your brother control of part of your business and he steals your money, you just wanna *BOOM! BOOM!* smash him in the face?!
At that level, you literally don't have the time. It's not your personal account you spend with your ATM card. It's a commercial/business account. You don't check that bank account because you have an accountant to do that. Just like you trust your lawyer, and don't check court or legal papers (or the law books themselves).
@Starscream91 I don't think you understand the structure of being a celebrity. You have a lawyer. You have an accountant. You have an agent. You have a manager. You have a secretary/handler. You have stage crews and manager. You have a sound technician. There are multiple corporate bank accounts, and you never look in any of them. Ever. They are handled by the staff you hired. People forget *this is not Dane Cook's personal bank account being spoken about here* These would be business account(s) managed by his team(s). He wouldn't be looking in these account(s) any more than you would if you were a member of Motley Crue, for example. You'd expect your BROTHER to be doing a great job, as your accountant. It's what you pay him for, after all. The only account you'd see regularly is your personal account (the one you spend from) when you get paid. The balance you see every day, when you buy food, a television, a car, etc. That's NOT the account we're talking about here. As explained in the video, he had to physically sit down at the bank, and gain access with the help of bank staff, to get in there and see what was going on in the business account(s). Cook was not the primary comptroller. As he shouldn't be.
@@abandoned-mines-novascotia I hear what you're saying, but this isn't really correct. Myself, and millions of others, are business owners. We know exactly what we have in our business and personal accounts. I feel very bad for Dane, but he gave his brother just way too much power and did not put any stop gaps, or oversight, in place. Dan was certainly entitled to view his annual statments and tax statements with his accountant, lawyer, bank, etc, and unfortunately he didn't and trusted his brother. By the way - I'm not blaming Dane for doing that, it's hard to imagine a family member doing this to another family member.
We saw him do a surprise drop-in set at the Improv a few years back and he basically did just that. It was right after he disappeared for a bunch of years and he was telling the stories about how hard it was to go home every night and have Twitter and Instagram and Facebook posts just tearing him down and telling him he sucked and he should kill himself every minute of every day and how he had a total meltdown and about talking with his therapist and it was totally compelling. He wasn't even trying to be funny. Just talking, and we loved it.
This makes me love him even more... I remember in 2007 when he did his arena tour and he came to GA. My husband and I went. It was the day before I had to have a D&C because I miscarried our twins. His show really did cheer me up. It was the most fun I had had in a long time. It made the darkness in my life go away for that night. And I’m glad I have that memory of him. 💜 Love you Dane!
You have to admire how Cook handled such a devastating loss and how he describes it. I have a lot more respect for him as a man if not so much as a comedian. Even if it’s not my taste, it’s amazing to me how people can get up on a stage alone and create an experience for huge crowds. Cook came up with his own thing that killed. This interview shows that he’s also a man of character. At no point did he wallow in victimhood. He just got more motivated and focused.
Yeah. It's cus money doesn't just = being able to buy more or more expensive stuff. Money as a concept is literally a currency of power, of influence. It's why lobbyists for corporations have so much control over Congress. Because they have money, they have the ability to make the federal government take them more seriously. It's why petitions in our society no matter how many millions of people sign them, never really get anything done cus what you say doesn't matter unless you have influence and power like billionaires and corps do.
Yup, I realized that the first time someone died in my family. The people who you're supposed to be able to trust most will start fucking each other over any way possible to get whatever they can. Seen it time and time again.

Dane Cook sucks. His brother robbed him because he knew Dane didn't deserve any money
I don't speak to her anymore.
theres a lot of psychos out there that arent murdering people, but theyll gladly destroy a family
Man so sorry to hear this. My mother and I don't get along either. Not because of something like this as my dad's still alive thankfully. But, I can understand and appreciate exactly how it is to have to cut your own mother out of your life. It's a sad thing to have to do...
I sure hope you made sure she got nothing!
I HAD NO IDEA THIS HAPPENED....... wow..... hats off to Dane for taking it all in stride.

No, they ruined the relationship by doing horrible thing x.
I think what he's actually saying is that once he acknowledges it, the change to the relationship is real and concrete and that's when you really *feel* its loss. I don't think he meant it that literally.
It seems like Dane thought of this half-sibling as a full brother that he loved, while the thieving D-bag saw Dane as an ATM. If he didn't think Dane paid him enough, he should've kept his prison job. Now he's back at the prison.

Never mix family with money or business

I agree, impatient turtle. Can’t forgive every shitty thing they do just because they’re family!
ImpatientTurtle: yep, family = a one-way street
You only have one shot with me , it’s a very painful life , but I don’t tolerate lying or funny stuff ..when your with somebody that doesn’t understand your feelings, they try make you make exceptions for their family name it becomes hard against you , but blood makes zero excuses for me ..steal from me , we are done .
I saw Dane at the Laugh Factory one night in LA and was not only hilarious but saw him after and told him that he was great and he stopped, shook my hand, chatted for a bit. He’s a genuinely kind person.
I saw Dane at the Laugh Factory too. Chappelle Showed up and went on stage. It's on TH-cam. He talks about Kramer/Michael Richards.
@6:06
Dane: Sociopaths are chameleons.
Toms wife: Looks at Tom suspiciously.
Tom: Smiling and bobbing his head like a serial killer that just got done chopping up his victims.
Lmfao
Dane got re uncomfortable too just then yep
YOU NEVER KNOW WITH PEOPLE.
I’m so impressed with your composure Dane, empathy for your bro amid such craziness
Fuck Dane, "I made my brother quit his job at the prison haha same prison I sent him to." That the biggest fucking shitbag there is Louis ck didn't have him thrown in jail for stealing his jokes.
Look up on google----global truth project----click The Present. It answers all of life’s biggest questions and can turn this world right side up from the beginning of it.
@@DIMEBAGONICS
Is Louis out of hiding for being a sexual deviant?
That's crazy and sad.
His brother put himself in prison.
@doge fm what?
He's just so down to earth and genuine. I've never been to a show but I loved him in My Best Friends Girlfriend.
Two things to take away from this.
1. Trust NO ONE
2. Always watch your money
More importantly, NEVER trust a corrections officer. The good ones (which definitely do exist) are peppered in to the assholes to beat up inmates for existing or eating a sandwich wrong.
Don't blow it. Keep it simple. Count your money.
My brother would not do this to me.
You forgot one. Karma's a motherfucker. Former corrections officer locked up in the same prison he used to work at? Good luck
rex, stfu...... there is a reason people think lottery winners r cursed..... my own family is trying to fuck me and my mom over money, so please, stfu.
Whats pretty incredible is how Dane can tell this story and keep smiling, let alone keep joking/laughing through it.
I have a whole new respect for Dane Cook. Keep up the good work!
Pretty sure the money was a good cushion.
Ginerization probably who tf doesn't know how much they're worth?
Yeah he must be an idiot or something.
Yeah that was the biggest peace of shit move I’ve ever seen. Hate to say it but Dane cook deserves to burn in hell for that one. He could have atleast talked to his brother before he called the cops like a lil bitch. Because he doesn’t know how to run his own business
6:06 "A sociopath is..." - Christina's side eye at Tom!!!
My mom used my credit since I was 16 and put a bunch of bills left outstanding under it. See people say blood is always with you. That statement 100 percent is dead now. Family means nothing in a world where everyone is out for themselves.
Yes!! Preach! Family is there for you. Family can be anyone. I built my own family.
That’s sad but not all families are like that. At least mine isn’t. My brothers and sisters have had each others backs forever. Cousins on the other hand…..lol but that’s really sad to hear man. Hopefully in the future you get better things man
Dude. That must be so disorienting. It just seems like such a basic thing to be able to trust your mum. I can’t imagine how upsetting and destabilising that must have been.
I hope you get to grow from that somehow.
@@stevothefellow yeah bro and that’s nothing really. Why I don’t talk to my mom anymore is because in 2018 my wife and myself lost our first baby at 37 weeks. She had what’s called a still birth. Which she had then do everything to find out why it happened. And they couldn’t find anything. As we are trying to get through this horrific tragedy my mom decides to start harassing me that my wife was the reason our Lily passed. For me that way the last straw. She didn’t have a car at the time so I left with my wife and let her borrow my car for a week or so to figure it out. She crashed it by nodding off 2 days later in plain daylight. That car was a gift from my grandfather, her dad. Who died about 6 months props due to cancer.
@@SplashyandDuckiesadventures 100 percent not all families are like that. And I try and let all my friends know always when they are acting fools with theirs. I’m a walking reminder why you should be super grateful to have an amazing family.
His brother stole so much money he didn't know what to do with it, so he hid it in the walls like an asshole.
Talk about greed, man. 😖
Right ain’t that some shit
Greed's a sickness. Have a feeling his brother helped him scam money in various ways after he got obscenely rich on his mediocre comedy, and he would look the other way.............when it all caught up he cut ties and dropped hammer. My take, could be wrong, but i doubt it.
When you put it like that, the dude is a complete lowlife
probably piles of it still out there waiting for him to get out of prison.. I hope they have somebody watching the brother
“Who do you want me to be?” The jeans were very tight here 😂😂
Rolando Cuevas-Chavez can you explain? I don't get this one

@@AdrianVanOyan Running gag that Tom is a sociopath
Damn man. I actually feel
Bad for Dane Cook. What a strange Thursday this could be....
*walks around manically* You know how, when you give your brother control of part of your business and he steals your money, you just wanna *BOOM! BOOM!* smash him in the face?!
Nah he totally outsourced all his financial awareness, didn't even check his accounts or anything. It was very irresponsible.
So I was feeling sorry for myself because a mate stole my car keys today. Then I heard Dane's story. Counting my blessings! 😂👌
Money ruins families. Dane didn’t have to hire his brother but did him a favor and trusted him. So sad.
@arniebarb123 nah, but it sure does have the tendency to root out the evil in people
Cash money literally ruined my friend's family by giving them covid. Fu*k money.
@@maddogkilla1 lmfao but money also cures AIDS, i think that’s much more important
Dane hired a corrections officer to run his finances... Stealing aside, that was a dumb move.
@@cup_and_cone Why?
Tries to use brother for that position because you cant trust people..
Totally backfires.
Never trust family! Once you have money they feel like it's owed to them for some reason. Have total control of your finances people...
Well Dane is a dumbass.
With the exception of a few people, DON’T DO BIZ WITH FAM, nothing good comes from it.
Take care of your own financial business dipshit
Well they always say dont go into business with family.
Part of me feels bad for him.
Part of me thinks "HOW COULD YOU NEVER CHECK YOUR BANK ACCOUNT!?!"
The whole point of being rich is not giving a fuck
At that level, you literally don't have the time. It's not your personal account you spend with your ATM card. It's a commercial/business account. You don't check that bank account because you have an accountant to do that. Just like you trust your lawyer, and don't check court or legal papers (or the law books themselves).
Sounds weird right, Normal ppl check they're account often
This needs to be a movie
That's what he gets for thinking he WAS the burger king.
GodKingOsiris can I get in? Not without coups baby not without coups.

Dane Cook needs to do a storytelling special. His material is fine but his stories are fascinating.
All of his best material incorporates story telling, it's his calling.
@@ShadowOfAchilles I was just about to say that.
The cheating and car crash bits come to mind as pretty good examples of that.
This is the best interview I've ever seen.
Damn...thats heavy. I heard about this happening but hearing it directly from Dane puts it in perspective.
My brother’s a lying cheat, too, Dane. He also acted like a Burger King- - everyday.
Money corrupts all, never give a friend or family power over your income.
Dane seems like a genuinely good person. Wish him nothing but continued success. Hope his brother is holding someone’s pocket in prison too.
Wonder if his brother ever did a B&E.
He was the fat kid that didn't want to do it.
He was too busy being the Burger King, rejecting entry to those without coups
I'm sure he's eaten plenty of bacon and eggs.
Harmful if swallowed
He just wanted to kick a damn door in
This is such a betrayal. Dane Cook was kind and loving to his brother and the brother and wife had zero regard or respect for the blessing they had!
Honey payperview Dane cook 10 minutes let's go!
Lmaooooo. Ok this is hilarious
Ah YES!! Step Brothers!
Hahaha
Is it me or does he kind of look like Brennan
"Dane Cook, payperview, 20 minutes Lets go!"
So much more respect for this man now! Great interview!
I just love his positive spirit!!! His brother steals millions and he can laugh. God bless you!!
Easier to laugh when you know that you can make more!

Dude, your own brother man.
Money brings out the absolute worst in people.
