I just found this channel after looking up an old fan I have because I was curious about it (Super Model 3157). Anyway, I love this channel! I never knew the restoration of an old fan could be something I could sit and watch, but here I am! Thanks for the content!
Oh man I gotta give you big credit for this! You really did an amazing job on this fan! Very thorough restoration. They way you brought that original paint back would make someone think it got a fresh paint job on it. Most people would have probably repaint it but you took the time to clean and polish the paint. Looks like a brand new fan. Brought it back too life!
Thanks man! I initially didn’t think I could save the original paint but I guess the dust and tape residue actually ended up preserving the paint underneath.
You do some really nice work man! I can't believe I've gone this long without seeing your videos! I am definitely taking a few notes for when I do some of my restorations on camera LOL!
Thanks! No worries man, glad you're here now lol! For sure, I've also learned a handful of things from watching your videos too. Collectors learning from watching each other's projects; one of the best things about this hobby!
I'm glad you got this antique General Electric table fan back to it's beauty I love that long spin down time also the blade direction that spins clockwise is also my favorites
I bought it from AntiqueFanParts, and yes it’s reverse threaded. They have a solid inventory of both reproduction and genuine original antique fan parts. Currently it appears that the reproduction screw I got is out of stock, but they do have some genuine original GE screws: antiquefanparts.com/brass-shoulder-screw-arm-to-wheel-ge-vortalex-trump-bell-oscillator-12-16/
The one I used in this video was a black Sharpie oil-based paint marker. It works okay but I’ve found that it lacks durability and chips rather easily. Going forward, I plan on just using Rustoleum gloss black spray paint to do touch-ups on fans like this. You can spray a bit of paint into a bottle cap and brush it on. Enamel paint is likely more durable than the stuff in paint markers.
The rear bearing on this fan doesn't have a dedicated oil felt. Back when these fans were designed, grease technology hadn't advanced enough and the oil would separate from the thickener over time, so these fans took advantage of this and relied on the separated oil to lubricate the rear bearing. Modern grease doesn't do this, so the rear bearing will simply have to be oiled directly on a regular basis (shown at 0:46 in this video: th-cam.com/video/mE25m5RvkP8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=YRLq6uHiIuFJ5WNE).
It’s likely a different model. This fan (model 49X929) only came with black aluminum blades. Does your fan have a tag somewhere? It should indicate the model, noted as the catalogue number.
I would look on eBay for spare parts, or contact the folks at AntiqueFanParts.com to see if they have the right gear for your fan. They usually have a good inventory of genuine original fan parts.
Was it the exact same model as this one? If so, I’m afraid that’s really overpriced… I paid about $38 CAD for mine on eBay. But hey, the values of antique and vintage items depend on the buyer. If you want the fan and you’re willing to pay its price, it’s 100% worth it! :)
I also made a new video of my fans running on a 30 degree day. I also showed some footage of my ac. Let me know in the comments of what fans u like best in the video or even the ac. My video: th-cam.com/video/3bYHNmVXJ38/w-d-xo.html

Thank you for the kind words! I’m glad you’re a “fan” of these videos! :D
It’s amazing to know this fan is a century old
It certainly is! Yet it still works like a charm.

Thanks! I’m also happy that I completed the restoration.
@Alexthefancollector Walker True, this one does run clockwise. The rotation direction of the blades isn’t related to a fan’s reliability.
Just bought one for $40. Did not restore it like you did, but you did a great job!
Thank you! That's a good deal you got!
Beautiful Sounding Fan
Impecable ! 🖤🖤🖤
Thanks!
How do you balance the blades?
Awesome 😎
Thanks! :)
Where do you buy replacement part? Specifically the oscillating brass screw? Is that reverse thread?
I bought it from AntiqueFanParts, and yes it’s reverse threaded. They have a solid inventory of both reproduction and genuine original antique fan parts. I sure do love this fan but do you still have it
Sure do! It’s currently sitting on display in my room.
May you please tell me What is the name of that sharpie? I need one to fix the paint on my fan also

@@TheSuperFanMan thankyou
Anytime!
I just bought this model of fan. How do you re oil the rear bushing? Also, mine has to dense felt oil pads in the front.

i have same exact fan but it has the brass/copper blade, would it still be the same model you have?

i have the same fan and needs the gear is been stripped . where do i find parts
