Finally got my Xperia 1 V, after being a proud and happy Samsung user for the last 15 years.
From the very 1st video recorded, felt like a got a professional camera, not a phone camera.
Regarding this video, great job Gideon, love the sound and color grading of your footage.

@@GideonNtxbeni Footage on videos and pictures, amazing, love the fact I still have a lot to learn to get the best of it. Just to mention a con, I think they must work on a firmware to fix the quality of the framing when scrolling on apps such as TH-cam when watching a video. The rest of whole device, never happier.

To me, the Xperia 1V looks more cinematic due to the softness and how neutral the colours are.
On the other hand, the Sammy is sharper and has higher contrast - a look most consumers have been conditioned to like.
I personally lean in the direction of the Sony. The footage would be easier to match in post production with my XT4.
Very true , There is something special they have done to the Xperia footage that makes it looks like a camera.

Thank you for watching. Intro Lumix S5 , yes Davinci Resolve free version. This was a basic comparison that's why I used photo pro app and also to make it fair. I know video pro app takes Xperia to another level.
If xperia 1v auto mode can compete with Samsung's point and shoot centric...now imagine pushing the xperia to it's limit

Xperia 1 V main camera & telephoto zoom has been massively improved with Android 14 update. What a job Sony did. Awesome
But we have always strange light effects with telephoto zoom and also with main camera at night when there are light sources. Did you noticed that also man ?

Do you know if it is possible to record 4k @ 60 fps and 4k @ 120 fps on the Sony Xperia 1 V with seamless zoom (0.7x-5.2x)? I noticed that the seamless option is only available from 3.5x-5.2x. Would a software update be able to change this?
I have the latest software update its impossible. You have to do it in sections. 0.7x- 2x , 1x-3.5x , 3.5x-15.6x. on Video pro App seamless zoom turns off the slow motion mode. So it only works for 24fps-30fps

@@user-gj3io4jd5r I have lens protectors on my phone. I have had them since I got the phone. It all depends if you drop you phone many times I would recommend them but if you don't drop your phone and you are safe then don't have them.
@@GideonNtxbeniyou can do seamless zoom on video in the photo pro app in basic mode in 4K 120 FPS. It will of course not be the same quality output as video pro app but it works.

Maybe if you've used pro-mode camera in Samsung with correction lights and darks, it would be looked much better?
I did a quick point and shoot test. I didn't have enough time to do pro modes because the S24 U was not my phone.
Hi! The Xperia 1 V is a better camera and I like the real life colors and natural color gamut and tones of the xperia, I have never seen such beauty of colors, correct tones and naturalness on the screen, not on any other phone. Unfortunately, the colors on the s24 ultra are still out of place in the sense that the black color is not black, but somehow transparent bluish-gray black, red is like a transparent reddish-purple, white is transparent bluish-gray, yellow is transparent light yellow, both on the camera and on the screen, rarely if the camera's colors are fine, and I don't mean the "vibrant" and "natural" version here, but all the colors, and it still continues to be like that, and it really bothers me. At least the iPhone has clean and correct colors, black is black, white is white, yellow is yellow and red is red, etc. But Xperia colors are wonderful, natural, clean, clear, correct colors and the camera is like a real camera. This is my description, knowledge and experience, it doesn't have to be suitable for others! Thank you! 🌼

Does anyone know if the Sony Xperia 1 V is the only smartphone currently on the market that records the best video quality? What I mean by this is, are the video recordings in true to life colours (natural looking, cinematic)? I want natural footage, does the Sony Xperia 1 V record natural video footage compared to the Samsung Galaxy 24 Ultra, or are they equal?
I have only Tested the S24 Ultra and iPhone 14 Pro Max so far the others have that typical phone look. The Xperia 1 V has a more natural look , it looks like mirrorless camera footage in good lighting , daylight. In Low light the Xperia is not good at all, you will need lights. S24U has too much sharpness on the footage.

Samsung is for lazy people and Sony is for us that can manage camera systems.

As a long term sony fan , i love my 1 v and if anyone looks at my channel and videos from a few years ago i have. Been highly critical of sony faults.
The 1V pisses ALL over the Samsung s23 series, the main sensor is far superior to the samsung crap in EVERY WAY and yes as i said before Samsung cannot innovate and ALWAYS copy from Sony.
As i said the main sensor trounces ANYTHING SCAMDUNG can do but the issue that with the 1 V is the THE Telephoto, the image is far too soft and im not impressed.
Iuse video pro all the time and its far superior to the automatic crap that scamdung has

I am a samsung user but to be honest the sony looks more natural and appealing. Samsung is too digital and tends to over process the images.

If I have an opportunity to get hold of the S24ULTRA again I will take some photos to compare.
I just upgraded from the 1 iv to the V for my film kit. I for one will NEVER have a Samsung phone as i don't like their philosophy and point and shoot methods.
But it's not really fair to compare as the 1 V is last gen phone and the s24 is the current gen. Perhaps it would be worth comparing when the Xperia VI is out?
As i said ill never buy a samsung for the following reasons.
1. They cannot innovate: For the last 10 phone generations thru have literally been copying features that sony has had for years.
2. I like to be a better filmographer and photographer so point and shoot this letting the phone do all the work and TALENT, is not my cup of tea. I prefer a company that does not wet nurse you through things.
3. Samsung fans themselves. They are usually around every positive sony review snd trolling.

the fact that the Xperia has a smaller sensor and still manages to look more cinematic just shows Samsung's incompetence. The sharpness and the "flattening" of the scene, like the boosted shadows and lowered highlights don't produce a real HDR image, just a fake one where shadows are visible and highlights are visible and any contrast is artificial and just crushes some shadows actually. When will we be able to get a real HDR phone? IDK. Samsung's processing is so wack it just SCREAMS "video shot on a phone". Sony's one is so beautiful it just looks like it was shot on a nice lil dedicated camera. Samsung doesn't look bad, but Sony's one is just so beautiful and professional looking it just makes you wonder why other manufacturers don't do something like this.
I noticed some judder on the first sample of the Xperia, Sony as always needs to work on the software side of things (The stabilization here). The zoom is surprisingly good on the Sony tho it seems! I used to notice a bigger drop in samples by other people. Maybe updates fixed it.
Also, can you test out the HDR videography, if possible? Would like to see how these fare in that sense.

it's kind of an upset to me for such a perfect phone to have such a poor camera, especially coming from Sony. I don't get it why Sony couldn't throw a more competitive lens. I am a photographer so rarely use my phone for pics but there are moments when a phone camera is handy. great review! 👍
@@naturegood515 thanks , To be honest. The camera shines sometimes , sometimes it's terrible. I am not those hardcore Sony fans that can't reason or see the fault in the device. In my other reviews I have been honest and there are some things I like and I don't like at all. If you were to ask me if I would get another Sony in the future I would say No 😂. I'd rather invest in another camera body n lens. What camera set up do you have ?
I've looked at all videos of 1V for a long time. finally got the S24U.
I did a trip to masai mara in the jungle and the pictures I got are fantastic. In the wild life, it was important for me to just point out and zoom and shoot . not wait for the lion or the hippo to give me a pose while I adjust the iso n shutter. instead go to a pro photo or video mode.
on a physical camera with the buttons on your index and thumb finger doing PRO photography is easier. (I use Sony A6500)
The photos were great out of phone to post to socal media.
I Hear lot about Sony fans (including me) that's it is a photographers phone and not for everyone. But honestly Ive stopped fooling my self and realised that Sony screwed up again.
here in this post as well, the S24 videos are sharp and better.

I don't know what they will do with their Xperia 1 VI or Pro-i II but they need to do something very quickly. Its good you are enjoying your S24U, As long as you are happy with the phone that you are using thats most important thing.
When will people understand that Sony designs the Xperia to be used differently from other smartphones in photos?

Samsung and Sony have two differing philosophies.
Consider Samsung fans as TALENTLESS SHEEP whom.want the phone to do all the creative work for them and need to be taken in hand in glove to take a video or A photo. These are the types who do not wish to be held responsible for their own ability. If the photo is wrong then it's the phone's fault.
Sony allow you to do everything manually they don't care about auto and point and shoot and instead design their phone for the more creative modes. As a result of your photo is wrong then it's YOUR FAULT and not the phone and you must become a better photographer.
I like the latter philosophy
