'' i have never lied to him once''- Grace. She literally lied to her husband about meeting an aunt when in reality she was out cheating on him. The moral high ground she tries to take is hilarious.
One of the many joys of this show, which you have discovered today and have and will rediscover repeatedly, is the unpredictability of its storytelling and characterization. As you said, Nikki, things occur off screen that are Tommy problem-solving, which we will never know. This is one of my favorite episodes because of all the vulnerability and tenderness we get to see. I feel that he genuinely cares about May, but things changed after he had his night of turmoil Grace. I love that he had so much respect for May that he made it a priority, in the midst of a very difficult time, to go see her and tell her himself that he could not see her and why.
You are a brilliant duo at reacting - I've seen every episode of Peaky Blinders but re-watching it with you is so enjoyable. You add value to each episode.
Finn Cole confirmed on a tweet that Michael was sexually assaulted in prison. & also the fact that Campbell did the same to his mother for his release just makes this darker
Ive been going through some bad mental shit in the last recent days, but watching my favorite show with you just made me feel better, you are like a family to me at this point, thank you❤️
About Michael's reaction to Polly - even tho I don't condone the reaction, I get it, because I think now he will forever feel guilty that his mom had to do that for him, and he never asked for that. It doesn't even compare to what Polly went through, but I kinda get why he would be a little mad (not necessarily at Polly but just at the situation)
I’ve said this before. I’m from about 20 mins away from where cillian was born and bred in cork city I’m 44 I adore watching people fall in love with this normal Irish man. 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
GUYS!! Since you are sold on how great of an actor that Cillian Murphy is now you HAVE to react to OPPENHEIMER. It swept the Oscar’s for a reason! Not only is it one of Cillian’s best performances but also the best Christopher Nolan film.
If you like Tom Hardy in this series then you would love him in the Movie "Bronson" about one of Britain's most notorious gangsters Charles Bronson - it would enhance the movie if you saw some documentary footage of the real man to realise what an amazing performance he pulled off
I’d like to point out how hilariously appropriate it is that you happened to post your reaction to this *particular* episode today. That buildup of the opening sequence, of Alfie Solomons hosting Arthur at the Passover meal, is so apt, because today, 4/23/24, was the first day of Passover this year.
The reason why Michael responded that way is because when he was locked up the same thing that happened to Polly is the same thing happened to Michael in jail. You've heard of the prison horror story, right?
Highly recommend going through Stephen Graham's back catalogue. A good friend to Mr Hardy and supporter of Re-Org marine charity, his work is all encompassing. Boiling Point and Help stand out as two projects that I think you'll both click with. He also wrote and directed them. This is England and the numerous sequels, Broadwalk Empire, Taboo. Band of Brothers, Snatch, Gangs of New York, Tinker Tailor Soilder Spy, Rocket Man, The Irish Man. This man has shared the big and small screen with acting legends and held his own l.
Love watching these reactions and seeing how much you both get into the show with theories and predictions and observations about the characters. The good news is there is sooo much good stuff to come - right up to the final season which I feel they end really well. So right about Campbell being a great villain - plenty more of those to come too. There are villains to come that I feel are even more unlikeable than Campbell. You could not describe the Peaky Blinders as 'good guys', but I feel like they do live to something of a moral code - and by creating enemies that are far worse than them, we end up empathising with the Blinders despite their faults. Alfie Solomon is another fantastic character - don't want to drop any spoilers, but he's probably the most enjoyable non central character for my money.
So Michael’s reaction - I think it’s that he lost respect for her, I don’t agree with his reaction because obviously we’ve seen what actually happened but Michael says “they told me what you did” which feels to me that they told him that his mum slept with Campbell to get him out, not that Campbell r*ped her. Two totally different things, so I feel like he thinks she’s degraded herself and it’s embarrassed him. Obvs we know she didn’t just “sleep” with him and I HATE Campbell for what he did to Polly, aunt Polly is the best ❤
Yes. That is exactly it. Of course the male coppers/guards wouldn't even entertain the word 'r*pe' in their vocabulary when describing Campbell's version of events. It was probably relayed to Michael in the most lurid way. So in that moment it's not surprising that Michael, a teenager, would be embarrassed, therefore cuttingly disrespectful.
I think Michael was on a high after last episode and feeling untouchable as a Peaky Blinder. He got a reality check real quick. The Shelby name wields power, but it is also extremely dangerous. They are at war on 3 fronts, Sabini, Solomons, and Campbell, and all three wield power of their own. We saw what Campbell did to Polly, but the word on the street is that Aunt Polly opened her legs to get her baby boy out of jail. That doesn't look good on anyone in the family. This is the first time Michael has been ashamed or embarrassed to be part of the family. When Michael said, "I thought it was funny, maybe it is," he was calling out his mom. Are you a joke? Or are you someone to be feared? To earn Michael's trust Polly is going to have to be more than a concerned mother. He needs her to be to a Peaky Blinder sometimes, and bring out the razors.
Amazing how they had more of a problem with thomas(unmarried) being honest with may and breaking up with her than with grace(married) cheating on her husband and potentially becoming pregnant with another man lol. Say what you will about thomas but at least he was respectful enough to tell may about another women.
I don’t think it’s difficult to understand at all. It’s not even about which is more morally wrong or whatever; it’s because of the characters and the level of attachment we feel to them. At this point in the series, we have gotten to know May. We’ve seen several scenes with her and Tommy, she’s a recurring character and fairly well-liked, it seems. We also get a lengthy scene of Tommy breaking up with her (or trying to, anyway), it’s part of the story and doesn’t happen off-screen. None of this can be said for Grace’s husband, whose presence in the show is practically non-existent. Hell, even Grace herself is gone for most of season 2. If the showrunners had actually introduced us to Grace’s husband in season 2, given him a storyline or more of a presence and made him someone we care about as a character, it’d likely be different. But the focus this season is mostly on Tommy and since the seasons are so short anyway, I imagine that would’ve been a waste of time. That being said, I didn’t personally have much of a problem with the way Tommy tried to break things off or anything. If anything, I was a bit more taken aback by May’s reaction. I’m just saying I can understand their perspective and to be fair, they do have a point about Tommy and his personal relationships. Also, if you’re in a relationship - even if not married - it’s still cheating. Tommy told her (somewhat vaguely but still, he told her) which is good, but he told her after having already slept with Grace. Again, I don’t even care lol because this is a show where people get murdered and maimed on a daily basis so cheating isn’t on my list of top concerns, not even close, I’m just saying.
Sam Neil's performance always gets overshadowed by all the other great performances, but man... He's SO GOOD as Campbell. I hate him and love him at the same time.
Nikki “she didn’t come her for that” What?!? 🤣🤣🤣 Grace is addicted to Tommy like every chick is. And he was being a dick maybe cause she broke his heart and was a spy maybe. 🤣🤣🤣 But they are still into each other completely
I don't know why actresses with beautiful, distinct noses feel the need to surgically alter them. Grace is still gorgeous but her old nose was so much better, imho.
Totally agree, her old nose was cool and somehow elegant-looking. One of my first thoughts in season 1 when Grace first appeared was ”oh, this actress has a very pretty profile” lol. Sad.
Idc if the part would pay me a million dollars I would never play Campells character cause at the end of the day actor or no actor people remember that
Tommy and May would have never worked. Too big of a class difference. Her world and his didn’t mesh well. Most importantly he didn’t love her & would have been bored by the aristocracy & he probably would cheat on her.
