- Kiyari Workmen's Chant, Matoi Fireman's Standard, Hashigo-nori Ladder Stunts (Saitama City)
Performers: Ōmiya Wakatobi Kai, Ōmiya Tobishoku Kumiai
Since its founding in 1968, Ōmiya Waka Tobi Kai has been passing on the traditional arts of Edo firefighters: the kiyari workmen's chant, the matoi fireman's standard, and hashigo-nori ladder stunts. In hashigo-nori, born from the firefighting culture of the Edo period (1603-1868), the performers climb to the top of a six-meter tall bamboo ladder and execute acrobatics in which they stretch out their bodies. There are meanings to every technique displayed. For example, the technique of "looking into the distance" represents the Edo firefighters leaning from the top of the ladder to search for the site of a fire.
Please enjoy this dynamic performance which will keep you on the edge of your seat.
