    This sounds really similar to my high school audition (I'm about to start at an arts high school) which I find super comforting. It was a 5 hour audition with a similar process. It makes the process I'll be going through a few years from now seem more doable and less scary!

      Great! I think that's a wonderful mindset to have! You've already done something similar and so you 100% can do it again! I would recommend writing down your experience and what you learned from it so you can look back at it in three years when you're auditioning for college programs :)

      Yes covid has made everything crazy but the positive is that it gives rising seniors more time to plan for their auditions! Best of luck!!

      I think that the audition process as a whole can also be very scary because there's so much pressure to perform well at a school so that you get in. I think one of my mistakes at the beginning was overthinking what was going to happen and getting too into my head and I finally learned to relax about it and know that the auditions weren't that scary but were fun because you got to meet a ton of new people who want to do the same thing as you. So, I would definitely recommend trying to keep calm before auditions. This whole chapter is so rewarding overall too. I have made so many new friends that I keep in touch with that I met throughout the process and I've learned so much and was fortunate to visit tons of different schools! Best of luck!

      Madison Halla thank you! Can you also do a video on what schools you auditioned for and good less competitive schools to audition for

      @@michaelwilliams6132 Yes of course! I got a similar request to this and my video coming out this Saturday will be how to create your list, I'll share some of the schools I applied to but not most of them because I feel it's a little personal. But I definitely have some less competitive schools that I'll be sharing!

    oh my god i’m so nervous. i literally have 4 years until college i should not be worrying about it yet but i’m scared. i don’t know how to tell my parents that i want to be an mt major instead of a doctor. i quit dance lessons 2 years ago and i don’t have time do start them again so i guess i just won’t be able to dance anymore; i tried to do a pirouette and my dancer friend told me it was terrible. :( i can’t belt yet, though i am taking voice lessons. and i’m so worried i won’t get into my top choice (umich) and i’m so worried i won’t get any work. the world always needs doctors, but how many more actresses does the world need? i cant even be a successful waitress because ellen’s stardust is closing! i’m so so so nervous

    • @MadisonHalla

      Stay positive! That's the first step! I would try and show your parents your love for theatre through hard work and dedication. I would also continue to dance if possible, I just came out with a video on how to prepare for college dance calls and I suggest you watch that. Even if you don't have time to take dance classes I would try to learn a dance at home 2+ times a week from a TH-cam tutorial so you can get better at dancing and memorizing dances moves. I was worried, like you, that I wouldn't get into one of my top schools and when I was first auditioning that was at the forefront of my mind. But as I auditioned at musical theatre programs that aren't on the top 30 list I realized that I would still be getting an incredible education from a lesser-known school! For example, Christopher Newport University is a less known program but I went to that school and loved it, the head of the program was doing so much to give his student as many opportunities as possible and some of them were even able to perform with professionals that pass through their stage (they have a really big stage where famous people sing and broadway tours perform). I was very impressed with their program and I definitely think that the smaller programs are incredible too! There are gives and takes, top schools have small programs so there's not as much competition but bigger programs have more competition for roles and to be seen which will help you prepare for the professional world because that's how it will be, lots of competition. I think it's great that you have your ambitions set high on Michigan but remember it is also the TOP program and is harder to get into than Harvard. So, it of course not impossible but you shouldn't rate your self worth on whether or not you can get into that school or another highly ranked school. You have a long time till you have to worry about auditions so right now I would focus on becoming a stronger performer, perform in shows, sing for people as much as possible, and work on your singing, acting, and dancing. And don't worry if you're not a belter, you don't have to be a belter to get into a top program. And remember everything takes time, hang in there you'll figure this out! Let me know if there's anything else I can help you with. All the best!!

    For the singing and acting auditions do you usually use the scenes and songs you used for your pre-screening or do they give you a new song and scene to work on?

    • @MadisonHalla
      @MadisonHalla  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Schools will specify what they want from you and often it is the same material from your prescreen. It’s not common for them to give you material but can happen.

    Not to comment on a three year old video, but is it ok to prepare the same thing for every school?

    • @MadisonHalla
      @MadisonHalla  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ok before I answer this question... I have to comment on the INSANE fact that the shirt I'm wearing today has skeletons dabbing on it and they look EXACTLY like your profile picture! wild
      Now to answer your question :)
      YESSS!!! In fact PLEASE DO!
      You will probably sing for many schools and if you can make it easier on yourself by all means do EXACTLY that! You will thank yourself profusely! Not to mention, schools will have absolutely no idea that you're singing the same song and I honestly don't think they would even mind! Just make sure that the songs you are reusing fit the requirements that the school is asking for. And remember to find pieces that reflect you as a person really well and that shows off your strengths as a performer. Let me know if you have any other questions! Three years later and I'm still kicking haha

    Do you usually sing full songs for the college auditions? I thought you always sang 16 to 32 bar cuts. Also, is it important to own jazz/tap shoes? I only have ballet shoes.

    • @MadisonHalla
      @MadisonHalla  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You don't generally sing full songs, for most prescreens you will sing less than 90 seconds of a song and for in-person audition, most likely, you will sing s 32 bar cut for your song, sometimes you'll sing a 16 bar but or a cut that is less than a minute but the most common is a 32 bar cut. I have had to sing a full song for a prescreen and on audition, but it's not common. I would say it's very important to wear jazz shoes because those are the shoes you will be wearing in all of your auditions and they're different from ballet shoes which you probably won't need. I wouldn't say you need to buy tap shoes if you don't have them because it's not commonly needed but if you have them, bring them.

    • @MadisonHalla
      @MadisonHalla  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When I said you may sing one song instead of two I meant the cut, not the full song. At one of my auditions though I needed full songs and they asked me to do a cut of two of them on the spot because they were running very behind.
