  • Hi! I wanted to make this video to help anyone with the college audition process, specifically for NYU! When I was preparing to audition, I wished I had more information on the BFA college audition process, so I wanted to share my experience auditioning for the school I will be attending!
    I would love to make an entire video describing my overall college audition experiences and tips, so let me know if you're interested in seeing that!
    Also, please feel free to reach out to me and ask any questions you have on the college audition process and musical theatre auditions in general!
    Look out for more videos on auditions, NYU, and being a musical theatre actress in NYC! Looking forward to talking soon! :)

    Love this video! I'm so glad you're helping others perform better for their auditions!! I'm going to be attending NYU Steinhardt's musical theatre program this year and it is my dream school/program and my audition went well but I didn't think I would get into my dream school. So when I saw that I had been accepted in March, I cried because I was so happy!! I then went to my dad and told him "I think I got into NYU" and he was like "think?" I relate so much because I couldn't believe that I had actually got in!

A video all about college auditions will be going up next week and I talk all about each step in the audition so that should also be helpful, so look out for that! :) In regards to the ED process, nothing else is different other than it will most likely be one of your first auditions since they ask you to audition around Nov, and you find out much earlier, around December, in comparison with regular decision that find out in Feb/March/April! I've heard that NYU is 50/50 talent and grades. What exactly are the academic standards, though? My sophmore/junior GPA is a 3.7/4.0, but I absolutely bombed my freshman year grades so my cumulative GPA is a 3.3. And my ACT is a 29, which is fine but im not sure its NYU standards. I took a lot of hard classes so I don't know if that makes a difference. Do I even have a chance at all acadmeiclly speaking?

    • @meitalz8030
      @meitalz8030  4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Hi! So they have told us that they evaluate us with our audition of course but factor in our grades/academics pretty heavily in comparison to other theatre programs. I don't know an average GPA exactly, but I know most people around me got good grades in high school! They want you to be concerned about academics as they are a top research university and we all are interested in outside academics as well!

      It depends on the school, most schools that have a prescreen require you to pass them in order to have a Unified audition. NYU Tisch musical theatre doesn't have a prescreen but NYU Steinhardt musical theatre does have a prescreen.

    • @meitalz8030
      @meitalz8030  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lin Trash Hi! I chose to do both NY and LA Unifieds because there were so many schools I wanted to audition for as well as many walk in opportunities that I wanted to have, and you can only fit so many auditions in a day! Although almost all schools do both NY and LA Unifieds, I just didn't have enough time to fit all my auditions in two days. Some days I did 5-6 auditions, and some even more. But some take auditions may take longer because of a long dance call, waiting, etc, so plan in advance what schools you want to audition for in order to make sure you comfortably fit your auditions into the day! And make sure to make time to relax and eat because you get busy quickly! Hope that helped!

    • @BetteDavis19
      @BetteDavis19 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      okay thats awesome thanks! how far in advance did you know that youd have to go to both to fit everything in? my familys j trying to plan how we will afford all the auditions, etc, so do you think going to two unifieds was cheaper overall than going to one unifieds and then some on site auditions? ive heard that they sometimes like you to go to on site auditions more, because it shows your enthusiasm, but im just not sure we'll have enough money for me to be traveling or flying to that many different places. i just wasnt sure what you thought, any opinions help and you definitely seem like you know what youre talking about :) so just thought id ask! thank you!

  • @rvashko

    Seems like two of the key things they are looking for in the interview are a.) that musical theater is a passion for you, not just "something fun that you're interested in;" and b.) your eagerness to grow - in other words, you recognize that you have much to learn and will be highly receptive to training and critique. have you been attending to vocal lessons or sth? I am a dancer like you and I dream about musical theatre but I haven't taken like professional vocal training so please tell my if I have a chance in this case at all :)

    • @MadisonHalla
      @MadisonHalla 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course, you still have a chance! I would recommend taking voice lessons if you're able to pay for them because you will be able to learn a lot of techniques and grow as a performer. If you can't take lessons there are tons of videos made by vocal coaches on TH-cam and you can learn from them. And If you're applying soon I have tons of videos on applying to musical theatre colleges, best of luck!

    How big are the NYU dorms?

    • @meitalz8030
      @meitalz8030  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They all differ in size! I'd suggest looking them up based on if you're a freshman/upperclassman! In my opinion they are greatly sized, especially for being in NYC!

    Hey) Please, Could you tell me, which universities you have had auditioned for?:) it’s very important to me❤️

      Hi! I auditioned for many; if you go to my "All About College Auditions" video, I believe I mention some of them! I auditioned for around 22 schools that I was excited about, so make sure that you can see yourself going to the schools you're auditioning for and that you also keep your options open! Break legs!!

    Can you speak to the rigorous quality of BFA programs? When I think rigorous I think hours of hard work, little recognition, and little to no opportunity for enjoying the art form (from past experience). Am I dead wrong, or was that a sacrifice you wanted to make for the quality of the program? Is it a friendly environment? If I wanted a program that treated me kindly and channeled my skills to make me a better performer should I be looking for a BA program instead?

    • @meitalz8030

      This is such a great, thoughtful question that I am so glad you asked! In terms of the rigorous aspect, BFA programs, especially mine, are made to push us in many varying concepts and last all day long. A studio day for me is typically around 8:30am-6:15pm with smaller breaks. Not going to lie the schedule is difficult and demanding, but to me, incredibly worth it. NSB really is a friendly, supportive environment to me. It all depends on what a person feels they need! I found that I thrive being this busy and focused on my training. I have found from talking to students in other acting studios/programs that being a musical theatre major specifically is especially challenging due to the variety in training in all three concepts plus many other additional skills/classes. However, I feel that the "rigorous" aspect of the program does not take away my love and appreciation for my art; of course some days it is hard because it can pile up and feel like work, but I found I have to make a conscious effort to remind myself to be present and enjoy the moment, feeling gratitude for every second I get to live my dream! My program and professors actually care so much for me and our small class sizes give us great individualistic attention! I was looking for a BFA curriculum when applying, because I felt BA programs were more general, and taught you more about aspects of the business and rather than building you up as a performer to enter the business right from the beginning. However, with BA programs you get flexibility and definitely more time to take other classes, pursue different things, etc. Tisch Drama luckily allows us to value our academics and pursue double majors or minors for other subjects we are interested in. Overall, I'd say research and talk to people about their day to day in BA and BFA programs and see what you feel you need in a learning environment! Hope this helped!

    This is my absolute dream. A part of my family is from New York and I‘ve been there so many times and saw so many broadway shows. I live in Germany and I‘ve been dancing from when I was 4-11. I‘m 15 now and I‘ve been doing musical theatre since 6 years ago now in an extra musical theatre school where I have voice, acting and dance lessons every week and we do several shows every year. I‘m just scared that I have less of a chance to get into NYU Tisch just because I‘m from and I live in Germany. I‘m fluent in English but there‘s like 1% of an accent. What do you guys think? Do I have a chance eventhough I‘m not from the US and I don‘t live there?
    Greetings from Germany and stay healthy everyone ❤️
    PS: Am I the only one who always starts crying while watching these videos just because it‘s such a big dream?

I would keep dancing and when you start applying in a few years I have tons of videos on my channel about applying so best of luck!
