    I have a BFA for Musical Theatre audition coming up this weekend and I couldn't be more nervous cause I've never had intense dance training. I can do basic choreo but I have no idea what they're wanting. I'm excited for my songs though- Just Arrived(Copacabana) and I Could Have Danced All Night (My Fair Lady). Just worried about hitting the high note for the 2nd one :/ whyyyyy is this so stressful?!?!

      +Reagan shook Hey Reagan! 💕 For a few reasons, mainly to remain impartial, I don't disclose exactly where I live/studied. But I can tell you that I had to make some decisions at some point involving Ithaca, Otterbein, Hartt, Montclair, Rider, Texas State, Oklahoma, Roosevelt, Shenandoah Conservatory, Millikin, and Utah 😊

    @ Francesca S. - For whatever reason, I can't find your comment anymore but to answer your question: I actually transferred out of my college (I'll be talking a bit about that process in an upcoming video!). It was a great school, just not the right fit for me 😊

    Hi Katherine! I'm a huge fan of you and this channel. I am a very curious sophomore in high school who is trying to find out more about the college theatre community. My main question is when do you apply for schools and auditions?

    • @Kath_Steele
      @Kath_Steele  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey AnnaJo! Thank you so much, you're too sweet! 💕💕 I talked more about it in this video, so definitely take a look :) th-cam.com/video/vaE-ArrXYw0/w-d-xo.html&list=PLQT9aHBtN_y-XuDqpU1Y81EJQYleRHvmw Try to have your applications in by August/September, audition sign ups can happen anywhere between September-January, it all depends on the school. Get an audition slot as early as possible-- A lot of people this year waited too late :/ (Do your application super early because most of the time, you can't schedule an audition time until your app is in)

You're pretty much one of my favorite people, you're incredible and your videos have helped me a lot so thanks! I've got loads of theater related stuff going on right now- nearly time for tech week for the musical I'm performing in and I've got an audition for Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz in early January and your videos really help me to not feel so stressed.

    • @Kath_Steele

      michaela Like, ensemble in a show for a musical theatre resume? Totally fine--if the show/company producing is prestigious or if you need to add extra experience onto your resume 💕

    Could someone explain to me what is un up-tempo song, because I'm auditioning in a year and I need to prepare that kind. Sorry if I sound dumb, but in my country it's not a common term:)

    • @Kath_Steele
      @Kath_Steele  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mariya Bencheva hey there! A song can be classified as one of two basic tempos--You have uptempo (which would be like "Many a New Day" from OKLAHOMA or "Satisfied" from HAMILTON) and you have a ballad ( which would be like "Hello Young Lovers" from THE KING AND I or "Whispering" from SPRING AWAKENING).
      If you're auditioning next year, I would highly recommend checking out this playlist--it's got tons of info and advice for the college audition process: th-cam.com/play/PLQT9aHBtN_y-XuDqpU1Y81EJQYleRHvmw.html

    Hi! Are judges are suppose to have serious faces? They show no emotion at all🙁

    • @sunnyisfictional
      @sunnyisfictional 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      jazmin gonzales What I heard is that they try to keep hints to getting your part low. The judges out here are super sweet, they want surprises!
      oof maybe i live in a smol city-

    • @ruby7226
      @ruby7226 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      i’m very late, but the judges are trained not to make any faces during your audition because it may hint to your getting the part or not getting the part.

    Hi Katherine! I love your videos but I wanted to ask a quick question. I applied to Pace in late November with the intention of finding out if I had been accepted or not in January so I could create my pre-screen then. Since I didn't get a letter I assumed I had been rejected, until I just got one literally TODAY. I have five days to put together a pre-screen (which is 2 32 bars, a contemporary monologue and a dance solo) which I have prepared already. The thing that I'm worried about is that in all the emails they send out and on their website they to try to hold off from sending in late January or February . I'm not really sure if I should even do the prescreen since it's so late, but I wanted to hear your advice😊 Thank you so much!!!!

    • @Kath_Steele
      @Kath_Steele  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Maddy Rasmussen Hey Maddy! 💕 Congrats on your Pace callback-- I think there's a slight typo so I'm a bit confused by your question, haha. If it's still within the pre-screen deadline, send it in 😊

    This is so exciting. I'm watching all your college audition series but I'm a junior in high school so it's not quite time for me to use them yet. I have my first college tour on the 2nd of January! I'm so excited. I know they're going to ask if I have questions... I plan get a degree in Theatre and English (don't know which will be my major and which will be my minor) and then teach! I'm going to get my MAT (Master of Arts in Teaching) degree online my first or second year of teaching. I'm not sure what questions I should be asking about the theatre program but I know that even if it's my minor it's going to be a huge part of my life. Any recommendations? (Even if it seems very "well duh, she's going to already know that," like.... I'm kinda terrified so I might be missing some obvious things lol)

    Great video! I'm making a very last minute decision to apply to some schools for MT as a transfer student. Do you know how receptive schools are to transfer students? What advice would you give to someone thinking to transfer to a BFA MT program?

    • @Kath_Steele
      @Kath_Steele  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Faith Jones hey Faith! 💕 interesting question! Different schools have different opinions/availability. Some schools love transfers- they're a bit more mature and have more life experience and professional experience--which can make them stronger performers. Some schools don't love transfers since they want to mold their actors from the ground up. It's all personal preference. Depending on how strict a school is on their preferred class size, they might not accept any transfer students (or, only accept 1 or 2 transfers to replace the casting type they lost if a freshman/sophomore left). Like I mentioned--it varies a lot.
      I'd recommend really showcasing your maturity--both as a performer and a young professional. Auditors may see up to 100 teenagers on any given audition day--but you might be one of the (comparatively few) only young adults they might see. 😊

    • @Kath_Steele
      @Kath_Steele  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ooh, how fun!! My friend just left the show a couple weeks ago! I'd recommend getting there right when the house opens (should be 30 minutes before the performance), so you have time to easily find your seats, check out the theater/merch, use the restroom, and read the Playbill. After the show, definitely head to the stage door (ask an usher where it is so you can get there quickly for a good spot in line). ALSO make sure that your phone has battery (for stage door pics) and bring a sharpie (for autographs--get a silver one if the playbill is mainly black). ENJOY!!!! 💕💕

    Hey! First of all, thank you so much for your awesome channel, it's as fun as it is informative :) Second, I'm currently prepping my college auditions that are about exactly a month from now. About two months ago, I was talking to my coach (a mandatory industry expert when you audition for the school I'm auditioning for), and as we were brainstorming for songs, we ended up talking about how well my voice works for Eliza. She said that since we don't live in the US, Hamilton isn't that well known where I live. Consequently, not many, if any, others will sing it at the audition. However, do you think that choosing something from that show will be perceived negatively by the panel? I'm sorry for the terribly long question, thank you so much xx

    • @Kath_Steele

      +Kathryn Pérusse Hey Kathryn (cool name 😉💕) I can only speak from experience and what I see in the USA, so I'm not sure. But, from what you're describing, it sounds like you could definitely do something from HAMILTON! 😊
