Thanks for sharing your experience. I bought a new 1098 way back in 08 and had serious gearbox issues with it (among other things). It spent around 6 weeks in the workshop all up. Once, after they had supposedly fixed it the second time, it got stuck in third at a Ducati sponsored track day. A Ducati tech told me to tap the gearbox input shaft with a hammer! Can you believe that! I was so pissed I did the whole track day in third and then traded it for a new R1 within 6 months. Service was horrible (I'm in AUS). I haven't darkened the door of a Ducati dealership since. Hope you have a better experience and glad you were looked after mate.
Thanks for sharing mate. That’s not great for sure. Appreciate the support, I just want to make sure I show the good and bad on this channel. Honesty is important.
Last week (April 21) at 1st service Ducati Leeds spotted an engine oil leak (copper washer not installed new on Cam Chain tensioner on forward bank) and immediately sorted me a loaner to get home, airfreight replacement 'kit' from Italy arrived and started Friday, got the bike back Monday, fully serviceable and immaculate. Very good service and support, in the event of a bike problem. Hope it continues. I couldn't get booked into SMC until the END of April though, hence went to Leeds!!!
I’m glad you’re okay man! And customer service and customer loyalty is one of the most important part of a business! Stay safe out there man! Keep up the great content. 😁
While I’m not a fan of Ducati I am a fan of the way SMC handled that. It’s beyond impressive. I don’t know that you could have a (unscheduled) bike picked up, serviced and then delivered in the same day here in the US. You can’t ask for more than that.
Imagine buying a 20 grand bike and their service hangs up on you. I hope they sort that out, you dont support high dollar or any price products in that way. Glad it was sorted out
Hi David, great news your bike was fixed so swiftly. It often turns out to be a 50p part at fault - it happened to me once, with a brand new Alfa Romeo & a dodgy lambda sensor. I absolutely agree with you on the following points too - 1). Customers will buy again if an issue is resolved swiftly & courteously. When I was in sales, the figure quoted was 84%, so customer service is not a cost centre, it's a sales opportunity. 2). Things break, it's life and everyone's products are fallible. Glad you got over it so soon! 3). The real villain in the piece is the contact centre operation and its complete failure to support you. It's not the agent answering who's at fault, it's the processes of the outsource company handling breakdown calls. They will answer breakdown calls for multiple vehicle manufacturers, with a unique number for each of them. The fact that your call flashed up as 'Vauxhall' is either poor programming or Ducati has published the wrong number. In addition, because your wait time was unacceptably high and the agent didn't know their organisation handles Ducati breakdown calls and was unable to escalate your call to a manager who might have known this, it smacks of inefficiency, poor training and low investment. Why am I banging on about this so much? Because I sold contact centres worldwide for over 20 years and it doesn't have to be like this! David, may I suggest you escalate this to Ducati UK? Their brand is being unfairly damaged by episodes such as this. Now go out & enjoy the beast some more!
Firstly thanks for the support. Really appreciate the positivity. Secondly, thanks for sharing your experience and advice. It’s certainly been escalated to Ducati and I think it was just a “bad day”. We tested the number since and got through immediately. Really appreciate you taking your time to write that 💪🏻🙏
Exact same problem. Got the bike brand new 3 days ago (2020 model). 170 km on the odometer and the engine light came on and it stays on. Also the quickshifter occasionally doesn't shift down at lower RPM (around 4000). Gear sensor showing the dash character instead of the actual gear number and the DTC and DSC labels flashing. Occasional power cuts when cruising or accelerating. All kinds of crap :D

Great to see top notch customer service and that they replaced the mirror for you as well. hope it's sorted now. Top dealer service from SMC there. My dealer Ducati Leeds are the same and have had my business many times for it like you say.

Gear selector sensor gone. Happened to my 2020. Apparently there is a recall the parts are sitting at my dealer. Bike goes in next Tuesday. Engine light on neutral and that sign flashing. Apparently gear position sensor is a common problem. Fails under heat.
@@mostlymotorbikes I also recommend you change the chain. Had my chain snap on the highway last year. 5000km pretty crazy. Caused some damage. I’m glad you had a good experience with your dealer. Not so much for me. I own a 2015 899 as well. Been riding that this week. Honestly this V4 has its headaches. But I love it. Prolly would do it over again if I had the chance. My friend just bought a 2021 white V2. Got tired of everyone drooling over my Ducati. Had to jump ship on Yamaha come over to Duca Bike.
Haha I hope I don’t need to call it again put it that way! I know they have a reputation but it’s just an irrational itch I need to scratch at the minute. I’m weak 😂😂
Hi dude. I have a 2020 panigale V4s brand new that I picked up in March and I had a problem after 80 miles it started jerking and cutting out but would be fine after a few minutes of turning it off and back on. It happened about 5 times in a row and I was far from home and I decided to call the Ducati assist number given in the handbook for the uk. And if I dialled it as it was written it would go through to nothing like an unknown number. I then panicked and tried other variations and I also got put through to Vauxhall assist and they told me they have nothing to do with Ducati. It was so frustrating as my dealership was closed that day and I was trying to get help for over an hour. Luckily by that time I managed to start the bike up and it was completely fine after that. I raised this complaint about the recovery number for the uk not working 3 times and I reminded them on my visit for the running in service a few weeks ago and they said they would inform the Ducati rep. I really hope something gets done about this and that I don’t get ignored. I do not expect to pay £25000 for a bike that I kind of expect will break down at some point to find out that the Ducati recovery number doesn’t even work!! It’s been over a month since I mentioned this mate.
@@mostlymotorbikes fingers crossed we dont have any more issues but its nice to see you take the positive side from it. and i do agree the help you get from the workshop at ducati is superb
That's cool they replaced the mirror free of charge oh, there's only two kinds of panigale V4 owners those that break their mirrors and those that are going to break their mirrors it was just a matter of time, at least your first mirror break was on ducati's bill, and now you can sell them after you get your block offs in different mirrors. I'm glad everything worked out okay bro oh, I'm going to subscribe to your channel for sure.
I started watching with hairs stood on end with trepidation. I have just got a V4 Streetfighter so similar motor/gearbox. Great to hear about the customer service being first rate. I have rejected a BMW car in the past. BMW uk were atrocious but fortunately the dealer was spot on. I have dealer loyalty now because of that. Hopefully it’s all sorted for you now. By the way, what is the number to dial for recovery?
Mate all manufacturers have issues. Don’t let it put you off. The point is, they have excellent service and got me sorted immediately. It’s a positive story if anything.
Not really. Vauxhall and Ducati share an RAC phone number. Tested it a couple of times since and got straight through so hopefully I just got a bad day.
This is shocking from a brand new Ducati but not entirely surprising. You call them 'Heroes' (Ducati and SMC) but I disagree mate, they were just doing their job, it's the absolute least they could do. You had every right to be pissed off but I'm also glad you got it sorted.
I think all brands have issues mate. I’ve had various different bikes over the years and had issues across the board. The roadside assist thing was apparently a bad day. We shall see....
Let's hope it's not the start of things to come. Mine went back to the dealers 4 times for over 2 months. 2 different dealers. Ducati uk were completely useless. It was a nightmare

Did they explain why it jumps out of gear.
By default when you have a camera in your hand do you just walk around anywhere and everywhere you can.. get dizzy with the camera moving all the time 🤣🤣
Wonder how many gearboxes have suffered premature gear teeth/selector wear from quickshifter faults !. Thankfully , the sudden drop in gear ratio didnt cause you to have an accident !!. Even an old git like me still has the strength to pull the clutch lever in ........
I'm driving also a V4 2021 MY and had the same issues with my gear indicator sensor in 4th, 5th and 6th Gear at constant speeds around 6000rpm. My Dashboard showed the gear as a -- the neutral lamp went on and some triangle engine light turned on. After a seconds all went normal. This happened to me while driving in these gears quite a few times, lets say in 20 kilometers 3-4 times. Went with my bike to Ducati and they cleared Error Codes and did an Update. I'm not quite sure about what they did exactly. They told that this is known and there was a new Update for the Sensor. I was surprised watching you with the exact same issue on the same model year. What was the solution for your Bike? Great Video, thanks for sharing your experiance.
We have tested it a few times since and got through each time. Looks like I just got a really unlucky day and maybe someone new on the phone lines. Fingers crossed 🤞
My 2020 v4 Panigale rear brake stuck on till the disc went blue and gold and pads cooked , no indication of why or how and I have been waiting over 2 weeks for a Ducati dealer to collect mine , wont be able to collect it till 19th April and that's over a month without my bike to ride , Ducati assist isnt picking up and just nothing , my dealer I got it from are not interested and my " local " dealer aren't really either. Wont be buying a new Ducati again that's for sure and mine is all paid for so can't even reject it . NOT IMPRESSED WITH ANY OF DUCATI AT ALL .
Respect! I would be less forgiving, and I paid my dues because I owned a Multistrada with software problems. Luckily it got sorted but still, there is no plausible explanation why it happened and why the 24/7 assistance cock-up took place?
Just a bad luck day with recovery I hope. Couldn’t ask for more from SMC but the Ducati infrastructure support was a struggle bus that day. Hopefully I don’t need them again 🙏

It’s not good enough, the manufacturers need to start applying a bit of quality control. Any electrical or mechanical failures should be ironed out during the development period for the bike. These are not cheap toys it’s bloody expensive hobby. TH-cam is full of expensive bikes having problems. The worst thing is that the manufacturers know they have issues but keep banging out the bikes. How about stopping production, rectify the problem and start again or send replacement parts to the dealers so that they can do rectifications before the customer has to become a development rider.
@@tracer1127 that would be a perfect world mate wouldn’t it. Harsh reality is, it’s cheaper and easier for them to just fix the issue in the dealerships. But that just puts the dealerships under pressure
@@mostlymotorbikes Perhaps the dealer franchises should get together and apply pressure on the manufacturers to improve quality, because as you say they are probably the ones getting it in the neck, not the factories making the bikes. It’s in all of their interests to improve quality as this will avoid bad press and increase sales. The manufacturers should have a whole team that just check reviews from real riders like yourself and take note.

@@redzrr5513 yeah there is something special about then to be fair.
That's Vaxhaull Assist is a joke tbh... Guess Ducatis never break down so people never call 📞🤷🤣
Haha I hope I don’t need to call it again put it that way! I know they have a reputation but it’s just an irrational itch I need to scratch at the minute. I’m weak 😂😂
Thanks for sharing David MC garage 5 star 🌟 but Ducati assist(recovery) is a worrying !! Did yo manage to speak to Ducati uk regarding road assist??
I raised it with the dealer and we did a couple of “test calls” and got straight through. Think I just got really unlucky on a bad day 🤞
Funny enough I am a senior technician at bmw. So I repair them faulty bmw cars of yours😂 small world
Yeah it’s all good the dealership being great but they only open 5 days a week. What about the other 2!!Ducati need to sort that out.
@@mostlymotorbikes fingers crossed we dont have any more issues but its nice to see you take the positive side from it. and i do agree the help you get from the workshop at ducati is superb
@@SuperBikerGP2T 🙏🥰🤞
Wonder if you would have got the same treatment without the TH-cam channel 🤔... still can’t argue with the results 👍🏻
My channel isn’t big enough for special treatment mate. They really are just an excellent dealership.
Thanks mate appreciate the support 🥰🙏
I started watching with hairs stood on end with trepidation. I have just got a V4 Streetfighter so similar motor/gearbox. Great to hear about the customer service being first rate. I have rejected a BMW car in the past. BMW uk were atrocious but fortunately the dealer was spot on. I have dealer loyalty now because of that. Hopefully it’s all sorted for you now. By the way, what is the number to dial for recovery?
Yeah exactly mate they have a customer for life now!!! 0800 553388
I'm about to pick up a v4s in a few weeks this got me nervous not gonna lie
Mate all manufacturers have issues. Don’t let it put you off. The point is, they have excellent service and got me sorted immediately. It’s a positive story if anything.
always buy 2 Ducatis that way you’ll always have one that’s working get both the same color so the neighbors n your mates don’t know what happened 😳
@@markinFL333 this is an excellent idea 🤔😂😂
Great customer service from the dealer! Was there a resolution to the Ducati/Vauxhall assist situation?
@@mostlymotorbikes Yeah, fair enough. Hope you can enjoy the bike more now, they are a hell of a thing. As is the Aprilia.
Stay safe riding.
Thanks my man. You too 🙏
Let's hope it's not the start of things to come. Mine went back to the dealers 4 times for over 2 months. 2 different dealers. Ducati uk were completely useless. It was a nightmare
That’s a shame mate. I can’t comment on that other than my own experience which has been amazing so far...🤞
congratulations 👏
now for sprint filter and terma🥰😍👍
What’s a sprint filter?
@@mostlymotorbikes sprint filters, its the best air filters for ducati especially for the v4 ul feel the deference in the performance in case ur interested enjoy

Did you get any clarification as regards to the Vauxhall/Ducati Assist in case you need recovery in the near future?
We have tested it a few times since and it was reported to Ducati. Been able to get straight through since so hopefully it was just bad luck day.
I think AMC and Ducati are lucky to have a very understanding, philosophical customer.........think I would be pushing for ??? a new helmet....well maybe a pair of gloves.....@20k is just fixing and returning okay? while I'm on how does a sensor affect the mechanics of the gearbox? Did they explain why it jumps out of gear.
It looks like the chain was really loose when sent out which caused the jumping which threw up the sensor error code
By default when you have a camera in your hand do you just walk around anywhere and everywhere you can.. get dizzy with the camera moving all the time 🤣🤣
I can’t help it mate. It’s same when I am on the phone I just have to wander. I’ll try harder 😂

@@philbeele8504 haha I can’t sit still. My bad.
Wonder how many gearboxes have suffered premature gear teeth/selector wear from quickshifter faults !. Thankfully , the sudden drop in gear ratio didnt cause you to have an accident !!. Even an old git like me still has the strength to pull the clutch lever in ........
Haha never had these fancy toys when I started. Clutchless upshifts and throttle blipping
They said exact same thing to me mate. Seems ok now. Only popped out if 6th once in a couple hundred miles. No error codes.
What was the outcome on the recovery service and what if you need to call them out gain?
We have tested it a few times since and got through each time. Looks like I just got a really unlucky day and maybe someone new on the phone lines. Fingers crossed 🤞
What's going on with Ducati...Paul Thorpe watch dealer channel just bought a miltistrada v4 s and has handed it back already with loads of problems 🤔
To be fair there has been a recall on that bike that’s only affected 40 bikes.

@@advmatt1250 good luck. Let me know how you get on.

Yes mate agree. Very good service.
What about the breakdown service number? If anything is related to Vauxhall it is worth getting rid good dealer or not. SMC need to be good as Ducati recovery is rubbish. Certainly would put me off Ducati.
Vauxhall and Ducati share an RAC number mate. They are not related I’ve since found out. However that doesn’t excuse the amount of time I was kept on hold and left at the side of the road. Need to put that down as a one off though and SMC couldn’t have done more.
My experience with BWM was rather different to yours :-(
Why? What happened?
How long have you got? It was actually the dealer that was the issue but BWM just paraphrased everything they said. I may as well have got to a lock up behing te railway station. This was BWM GB though
@@stevepovey2489 nightmare mate. I’ve heard a few stories about BMW though being honest. All brands have issues though I guess
