Bobby was so blessed to have a god given voice. No one then or now could ever reach those octaves. He was considered a contratenor. Amazing voice, to do a comparison to range perhaps Ray Hamilton, that did this same song in the mid fifties (1955). This man was so very blessed, Bobby is dearly missed, we are fortunate to still be able to hear his beautiful voice, after all these years.
@@Scyllax Ok, maybe not one of the best songs ever written. BUT I used to write songs for my rock bands, etc. and if I had written this one my life would be fulfilled. Of course Bobby Hatfield delivered it better than any human on the planet, yet he had a beautiful melody and heart-felt lyrics to work with. Go ahead and try it yourself. Not that easy, eh?
To pull off this kind of vocal, flawlessly in a live situation is genuinely "other worldly". I will be forever grateful that the moment was captured for posterity. It just never gets old. Comparing it with anything modern is pointless.
Phil Spector did not produce this live tv performance. Truth told, a lot of these old school performers could drop this kind of Performance at a moment’s notice. Tight and solid.
Steve Girard Media - But Phil Spector did produce the track that he was singing live to. This performance is actually better than the single that was twice a hit, roughy 30 years apart.
@@stevegirardmedia2255 I agree, I also don't know what the backing track had to do with Bobby's vocal performance...nobody contributed to Bobby's performance except Bobby! A song like this in a setting like this, live audience/televised AND not least his parents in the audience would normally have a bearing on the vocal. Watch the opening number of almost anybody's live concert, for the first portion of the song the artiste is usually a little breathless, visibly dry mouthed, (as Bobby was here if you look carefully) You can usually see and hear them settle into it around halfway through the opener. But Bobby has only the one shot, and he knows it. And he still doesn't do what most artistes would do, he doesn't start to rush it, he doesn't start to build too early. These songs are designed when written to build throughout the song finishing with a big crescendo. If you rush it and start to build too early there is nothing left for the big finish. To do all of that and in these circumstances to the level was nothing short of a masterpiece, and we get to share it...forever! I bet his mum cried...I certainly did!
Interesting fact, his mom was on the front row hearing that song for the first time. He was very nervous singing this for her. That little smile at the end was to her.

Not to diminish your marriage at all (congrats on 48 years by the way) but that's kind of a cheap shot. I'm pretty sure you could ask a complete stranger for a dance and then ask her to marry you while dancing to this song and she'd say yes. This song has that effect on women, haha!
I'm 76 and used to party with the Righteous Brothers at there apartment by Disneyland. We took them for granted but not for a long time. They were the real deal. Glad you enjoyed his singing.
My absolute favorite reaction video ever. She didn’t need to say anything. Her face said it all. She looked like she felt he was singing to her and her alone.
Yea man. Also back in that era, recordings were much the same. Ive seen footage of The Beach Boys recording back in the day. One room, all band members, instruments and backing singers all arranged around a single microphone. All different distances from the mic to achieve desired levels. They did it in a single take, and if even one of these elements wasn't perfect they had to do all over again. They didn't have the benefit of multitrack etc. They were amazing live back then because they pretty much had to bring the same a-game to recording as they did live.
There are many gifted singers around today, but what I don't like about (most of) their performances is all the facial theatrics. Pulling faces and grimacing doesn't actually help to create or sustain a note.
What just happened is an extremely gifted man sang a song to YOU! And you responded the same way MILLIONS of women before you responded. You swooned! He made you feel like he was singing this to you and it made you feel special, cared for, and needed! This is how special this man was. He evoked emotions from everyone that listened to this vocal masterpiece! Amazing that someone singing a song brings these feelings out of us. I’m glad you took the time to listen to this very special man and his voice! Proof that we don’t need to degrade each other with foul mouthed lyrics. This song transcends race, gender, and most of all, TIME!
This beautiful young lady was just transported back to the 60s by the best singer of the number one love song of my era. Welcome to the 60s. I was 16, and life was good. It was an incredible time to be young.
Did you feel it? That shiver that runs down your spine when you have just listened to something so pure, so exquisite. Bobby Hatfield OWNED that song. Your reaction with no words conveyed all that needed to be said
I love the speechlessness! You ask, “what just happened?” It is so simple. You just fell in love! This song is one of the greatest, you don’t hear it being recreated because, you cannot improve perfection!
Bobby Hatfield was the real deal. He was in an era when people trained for years to turn their voice into an instrument. The song is good, but Bobby Hatfield turns it into an ethereal experience.
It was written in 1955 as the theme song for a low budget prison film, “Unchained.” There were three different artists who put it out as a single In the 50’s...Les Baxter, Al Hibbler, and Roy Hamilton. But once this version by Bobby Hatfield was released in July 1965, as the “B” side to a song the DJ’s didn’t like and wouldn’t play, it became THE standard interpretation. Bobby first recorded a couple takes as it was written, but he came back for another and changed the final verse to a much higher level.....something he could obviously do with his incredible voice.

This girl's heart melted right before my eyes. There's nothing stronger than love. Love conquers all.
This lovely young lady just had that over a song that is over 50 years old. My God humanity just might make it.
just need to get them off the fake news tv

Doubt it....

@Dojocho musical talent knows no color.... lol many of the best talents in the world are of every color, creed, religion...
I keep coming back to watch your reaction because it is the most heartfelt and original reaction that I have ever seen
Soul is far beyond color or culture, it is a human bridge of music that connects us all.
This right here ☝🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Firstly, may I say your skin is so pretty.
A good song never goes out of style. This song was written in the 50’s & does not sound dated. Elvis cut this song & countless others. Sam Cooke does a fine job on it as well.

True Love has no boundaries of the world or hearts feeling for the one Lady you surrendered them too so simply hopelessly lost without her love.

Couldnt have said it better
One of the greatest performances ever. A man singing from the depths of his heart about his need for a woman's love. You're right Sushi, you didn't grow up in the best era for music, but luckily you're able to hear the best music.
So many young women wept hearing this song while their boys were in Vietnam. The song of our times.
Funny thing... Gulf of tunkin never happened.. 52k dead Americans and 2 million VC over a lie
I've bookedmarked your reaction... I've seen almost all the "Unchained" reactions. Yours bar none the best. Thanks for your pause and wordless joy. If this song doesn't move one they are already gone. RIP Bobby H. Keep up the solid input and bringing light to a generation on the verge. Vibrate and elevate Sushi!
So so nothing some people like to let alot of music lovers know they don't know one f----n thing about music and they never will.

I asked my wife of 48 years to marry me while dancing to this song. Thank you Righteous Brothers...........She said yes.
You had good taste Edward, congratulations on 48 years.
That is beautiful. Perfection!
Not to diminish your marriage at all (congrats on 48 years by the way) but that's kind of a cheap shot. I'm pretty sure you could ask a complete stranger for a dance and then ask her to marry you while dancing to this song and she'd say yes. This song has that effect on women, haha!
How many grandchildren?
I asked my ex wife to marry me because she was furious with me and I wanted her to shut up..
Today is January 1, 2022 and this song still gives me the chills when I hear it. God Bless You Bobby.
me too
Amazing voice can listen over and over again. Bobby looks like my uncle..💙
Yes. R.I.P
All LIVE. This is what talent looks and sounds like
I'm 76 and used to party with the Righteous Brothers at there apartment by Disneyland. We took them for granted but not for a long time. They were the real deal. Glad you enjoyed his singing.
Cool.
That's a pretty awesome little story there. 🤟 😎
My absolute favorite reaction video ever. She didn’t need to say anything. Her face said it all. She looked like she felt he was singing to her and her alone.
Agree the best part was she didn’t need to speak. Her face said it all 😂
Didnt she ever see Ghost wasnt that in the movie ?
Songs today don't have the same romance they had then.
Shes over acting pretending to be shocked
Rebecca Macom Ghost came out in 1990 (Thirty years ago!!!).
Fun fact his mother was in the audience and dedicated his performance to her!
Such a beautiful song!

Eigentlich sagte man hier, er wollte wenig später heiraten lund.sang für seine zukünftige. Die Ehe hielt aber nicht.
one of the greatest live performances of all time . no auto tune just soul and talent
Your totally wordless reaction is the purest I've ever seen. Thank you.
And he sang it without the sound of him breathing like they all do now. His breath control is a master class in how to sing.
This is true, though some songs the breathing is part of it.
Right. I love Matthew Bellamy. I do. I think he's a great singer. But he's got no breath control
This song transcends race, gender, and most of all, TIME!
well said

Beautifully stated.
Amen!!! It is try that music is the universal language.....
This beautiful young lady was just transported back to the 60s by the best singer of the number one love song of my era. Welcome to the 60s. I was 16, and life was good. It was an incredible time to be young.
Bobby's little nod and smile at the end was the world's greatest.
Bobby’s relaxed smile, little nod and gentle lip bite were the cherry on top of the world’s most delicious cake.
Did you feel it? That shiver that runs down your spine when you have just listened to something so pure, so exquisite.
Bobby Hatfield OWNED that song.
Your reaction with no words conveyed all that needed to be said
its all about the voice, this is real talent, never to be repeated, no one will ever sing it better, 10 out of 10
The lyrics are incredible as well. This song describes longing like no other.
Bold statement. The original is very good! It’s the original, but to say “no one ” will ever sing it better? Hmm. Ok
I love the speechlessness! You ask, “what just happened?” It is so simple. You just fell in love! This song is one of the greatest, you don’t hear it being recreated because, you cannot improve perfection!
Sublime
Still taking lady's hearts
Elvis did a fairly good rendition where he went from his baritone chest voice cleanly into falsetto w almost no break surprised me at the time
Bobby Hatfield was sick with a cold when he sang that night….legendary 💯
@@richardfox1605 I agree. Both versions are great. One thing about Elvis though, if he did someone else's song it pretty much became his.
You are the only reactor with pauses in this song that I actually appreciate. No talking...just a physical reaction that says it all. Perfect. :)
Bobby Hatfield was the real deal. He was in an era when people trained for years to turn their voice into an instrument. The song is good, but Bobby Hatfield turns it into an ethereal experience.
True work ethic and dedication
Absolutely right. This song was recorded by several artists, including "The King," Elvis. None of them measured up to this. (Sorry, Elvis fans.)
@@BobG127
No one can argue against that. No one can ever sing this like Mr. Hatfield did.
Maybe the song wasn't written for him, but he was born to sing it.
Yessss!
Very well said.
Absolutely
@@gkworley52I love you, thank you so much for this ❤❤❤
Many artists have sang this song but this version is the gold standard.
Although Elvis's version 1977 is getting close
@@bertsplci not even close...

@@bertsplci I'll just ask if your native language is english and if not, i'll explain that "getting close" and "not even close" has a different meaning. Thank you.
@@unAbated. English is not my native language. However Marilyn was saying that the righteous brothers version is the gold standard. To which I agree fully, but to my opinion Elvis's version is getting close to that gold standard.
What many fail to mention was this was a live vocal, in a TV studio not a recording studio… Before auto-tune and lip sync… Dudes could sang!!
No auto tune. No mixing. No alteration. Purely the sound of his voice. THAT, my friends, is TALENT. Bobby was just so good.
She respects music.
I love the fact that her expressions aren't stereotypical, she knows how to appreciate all music.

Bobby hit 20 notes over 2 octaves without breaking a sweat. One of the only singers who could do that.
He had such an incredible voice, and a range that was unbelievable.
that smile at the end was because his parents were there and he was so nervous about getting through the song. live, no autotune, etc.. pure talent

Now you know the difference between a "singer" and an "artist".
They call themselves "artists" because they really cannot sing at all. Got to have talent to sing......
I believe that Bobby's talent was on loan from God.
I can't sing.
But at least i don't pretend i can with a lot of fancy computers and autotune covering it up.
