    I’m from Houston Galveston area. I grew up eating frito pie. I think it’s name pie because the way we cooked it was like a casserole. It reminds me a bit of the cheese enchiladas. And we did top it off with black olives. I still make it that way. It’s delicious. A friend of mine who ate it for the first time wanted me to make this for her wedding. Lol

    I was born and raised in Fort Worth Texas and grew up eating Frito Pie. I love that you added beans to yours. I found a quick hack for easy Frito Pie is to go to Wendy's, order a chili with cheese and onions, then go to a gas station and buy a bag of Fritos and then go home and mix them together. Wendy's for it being a fast food restaurant has pretty good chili.

    Frito pie is my absolute jam. It's something I've always loved, that was a comfort food as a kid, and is even moreso as an adult. Makes sense though, I was born in Texas.

    Fritos Pie is one of my frenemy foods! I love it but it gives me heartburn bad! But like a fool I still eat it! I use the lighter salt fritos and no beans. I like the small bags but I cut them horizontally like we got them at the Tastee Freeze in Taos! I've made these with Won Ton strips and homemade tortilla chips too. Love that you did this, this I consider a native New Mexican food!

    • @marcyinspired1442
      @marcyinspired1442  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes! I would have cut the bag the other way, but for the thumbnail, I wanted people to read “Fritos” head on. 😜 It’s sad how you can’t eat certain foods as you get older. I drink a warm apple cider vinegar concoction every morning for that very reason and I rarely get heartburn anymore. Thanks for the comment.

    My elementary school in Oklahoma would serve this about once a month for lunch, always in a small Frito bag split along the back seam. Even though it was pretty plain (Fritos, mild chili, onions, cheese) it was hugely popular.

    We have Frito chili pie at least a few times a year! But we add tamales and onions to ours and bake in the oven. In a baking dish, add a little chili to the bottom, sprinkle some onions, then Fritos on top of that, then tamales, then more Fritos and chili and onions and lastly cheese. Bake in the oven until bubbly 😋

    Love frito pie. As a kid, we would go to a local park and would buy it there during baseball season. Question:
    If I just want to make chili for supper, using your recipe, could I substitute grou d beef for diced stew meat or even chili meat without altering the spices. Your recipe looks really good and very simple to make.

    This Frito pie is going to be GREAT this football season as an appetizer!! I think I'll add a little diced jalapeno, then chili powder to taste. Thanks again Marcy for sharing.

      @@marcyinspired1442 I was born and raised in Midland but almost was born in Santa Fe where my parents married. I have 2 brothers that live in Albuquerque. Funny was 7 years I have lived on the Alabama Gulf Coast, it’s always a great treat to come home to Texas to eat great Mexican food and BBQ. Luckily I do a lot of cooking in my home and am able to get key seasoning and spices sent to me by family. I have a few key TH-cam creators I watch that focus on cooking just were I can have a taste of home.

      @@rdcustomdiecast I interned in Midland two summers in a row, when I was in college, and have lots of great memories there. And I can relate to missing food from home. For many years my mom would mail red Hatch chile to me. I always wondered what the postal workers thought because you could smell it through the packaging. Lol

    I love eating but haven't been there in a while, Taco Bell taco Supreme bowl. but now i make my own version i bought a set of taco bowls at Rite Aide a few years ago. and made a this .but i just used large corn Tortillas, ground beef, onions, and taco seasoning. and added my topping, shredded lettuce, salsa, Kraft Mexican cheese, baked the Tortillas till crispy in the Tortillas bowl, and added everything but the salsa, and a dolop of sour cream. so good and one Tortillas fill me up.😊 .I'm making my grocery list this weekend and make this.

    I grow up in Dallas, TX and i'm 60 years old. I have been eating frito pies since I was a pre-schooler. Like stated every concession stand for little league/pop warner sporting events had frito pies on the menu. I always had flashbacks of my youth when I bite into one. For me it feels strange eating one out of a bowl with a metal spoon. A frito bag wth a plastic spoon is the way to go. Beans in a frito pie was a no go in my part of TX.

    Conroe, TX. I never thought about this being regional, but it make sense as chili is also regional. I know there hasn't been enough science yet on microplastics, but I couldn't help but cringe a little at putting the chili directly into the Frito bag. Then I also noticed the plastic utensils being used with high heat. I can't say how healthy that is, but I do worry about it. Recently read about them finding microplastics in human heart tissue from ingesting microplastics. I'm sure that can't be good for us. But with plastic being endemic to the food chain at this point, it's not really surprising.

    I have a 2018 boondock. And I don’t feel like any of the newer models have improved on the older ones. Mine came with the 12v fridge and once I upgraded the battery and added solar it’s better than the new ones. I have a fridge that slides out and I can’t believe they did away with the fridge. It’s the best part of the camper. I’ve personally never hit my head on the cabinet. I modded the water tank to be able to use all of it which is another issue with these. I’ve finally got mine where I’m really happy with it but not sure why they don’t come direct with these improvements.
