Tip: Ro-Tel Tomatoes and Green Chiles - You can get Mild or Hot, 10oz. cans, and adjust for the degree of hot/spicy caliente you like. (I like it mild, but my mom and great-grandmother were chili-heads.) I like the salsa addition. Some chopped green bell pepper would be nice. -- That meat chopper is a neat tip, getting that. -- This idea, either for the Frito pie or a soup, is really great. It has been so, so long since I fixed Frito pie. (My mom's version, yes, had diced hot dogs and not these ingredients. I like this one.) A small amount (maybe half a cup or a whole cup?) of cooked pinto beans might work too.

I buy about 5 lbs of ground chuck at a time at the market. I bring it home, brown it, drain it, cool it and then place it in zip lock bags with a date on it to freeze. I never have to brown my ground meat it's already done. A real time saver after work or school and it really does not take a lot of time but it saves a lot of time!!

I grew up (born 1955) eating what my mother called Frito pie/casserole. She did not use ground beef. Everyone seems to use ground beef )-; She used only chili (brick chili), onion, cheese, and of course Fritos.

Love Mexican recipes. I live in Colorado and it is like every other restaurant is a Mexican. It looks good the only other item I would had seasoning wise is dehydrated Pueblo chilies. We love hot dishes. Will be making it soon.

They don't turn to mush, they will keep a little texture.
