    Awesome looking Toyota. It's a shame that Toyota never offered an extended cab like this. I would think that it would've fit two children more comfortably than what Toyota was offering at the time.

    do you ever have any 2wd trucks swapping in the tdi? i would assume its a fairly straight forward swap?

      Hello MrJk009, and thank you very much for the reply.
      Here at our shop we have not yet had any 2 wheel drive trucks come in to do the conversion, however, we have sold kits to customers who have 2 wheel drive trucks. The only complication there could possibly be, as far as we can figure, is oil pan clearance. Some of the 2 wheel drive trucks had a crossmember for the frame that may be in the way of the Volkswagen oil pan. As of yet we have not heard back from any customer with a 2 Wheel Dr. truck who have had any issues with this. But that is not to say that they have been using all of the different year/model Toyota 2 wheel drive truck combinations, or possibly if they have had an issue they just solved it themselves and have not reported back to us.

      Welcome to Canada. If you go under the speed limit in the snow here, you're a danger to everybody else. Tons of accidents are caused by people gong too slow and getting rear ended. Where I live its basically snowy like this 7 months of the year usually.

    Hi, I would like to know if there's any kit availble for hatchbacks. I have a 93 Seat Ibiza 1.3 and I was thinking about doing an aaz swap, otherwise the car has no meaning to me at all. If the kit is too expensive, I would like to know what I need, so I can make a home made swap, for I already have a good deal on an audi a3 from germany, and was thinking of taking all the parts required from it

    • @toyworksautocrafters3072
      @toyworksautocrafters3072  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Sergio and thank you for the interest. I'm sorry to say, all we build kits for is the Toyota truck line. In the future we may move into building kits for other manufacturers trucks, such as Jeep and Nissan, but I don't suspect we would get into producing kits for other small cars. Doing the conversion to a truck provides a workable truck with amazing fuel efficiency. Something that the auto manufacturers don't seem to do, but in small cars there is already a good variety of fuel efficient offerings.
      Thank you again, and good luck in your search.

      As to what you would need. Having never seen the vehicle you are endevering to convert, I could only suggest that the easiest way to do the swap would be to swap in the entire engine and transmission from an AAZ powered VW. You would need to have custom axels and transmission linkages built and fabricate new engine and transmission mounts, but I would suggest this would be the best, easiest, and cheapest way.

      Its always nice to get a reply, ;p ty, the 93 ibiza 6k uses the same platform as the 94 vw polo 6n (correct me if I'm wrong on the chassis codename) , and it already has it's own version of the aaz, called the gt tdi, however, where I live, one of the biggest scenes in underground racing is the tuning of those exact vehicles, which unfortunetly increases their cost. This car is my first car, my dad bought it and I'm currently saving up for a 318is m44 coupe, and I'd like to have a diesel that has nice performance and great fuel economy, because right now I prefer walking to school instead of driving it, and I will need an economic car in the future because m44's aren't known by it's fuel economy :P. Once again thank you, all I need to know now is how much it costs to register it as a diesel and I'm ready to go, and you sir earned a subscriber today. PS: If you are curious about the ibiza just search Ibiza 6k gt tdi

    When you did the swap did you have Tom hanged the ecu from gas to diesel

    • @toyworksautocrafters3072

      Steve Iverson
      In the case of this truck, it was a carburated engine, so there was no ECU. The VW 1.9TD AAZ engine is all mechanical, no electronics, so there was no ECU to exchange.

      Hello Jonathan, thank you very much for the reply. The best number to contact us about kits is 519-938-9844. We can then explain how the kit works, let you know completely what it entails, and we would have to know which of the five different Volkswagen turbodiesels you plan on using.

    Is this swap use any electronics?? Other than the starter or the alternator?

    • @toyworksautocrafters3072
      @toyworksautocrafters3072  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Tio JDM 1043
      Pretty much an electronics free set up with this version of VW 1.9 TD engine (AAZ).
      The only electronics used were, as you commented; the starter, the alternator, the glo plugs (for cold weather starting), and the fuel cutoff solenoid (to shut off the engine via the key).
      With use of a generator instead of an alternator, removal of the fuel cutoff solenoid, a good hill, and a warm climate you could run this vehicle without a battery (no electronics at all could be achieved)

    I have an 81 short box. Would it be a saga to do this conversion?

    • @toyworksautocrafters3072
      @toyworksautocrafters3072  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello, and thank you for the response.
      I don't know for sure if anyone has tried one of our kits in the 79-83 series of Toyota trucks yet. Th only problem I can think of would be that the original 4 and 5 spd transmissions are very short and were not known for their strength. Our kits for the 4cyl trucks requires the transmission to be moved ahead by 3 inches. This would very likely cause issues with shifter clearance and front driveshaft angles. If any performance upgrades are done to the VW engine, it would likely break the transmission.
      Now. If you swap in a later transmission (1984-1995, 4 or 6 cyl) this would alleviate the transmission issue. You may have to build a new transmission crossmember or frame mounting position, and cut the floor for the shifters, of that I'm not sure. Then again. the dimensions are going to be so close, that they may fit. I would also suggest installing an electric fuel pump to alleviate ever needing to prime the diesel injection pump.

    Could this be done with a BEW?

    • @toyworksautocrafters3072
      @toyworksautocrafters3072  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, absolutely. In fact we have 3 BEW engines here at the shop right now, we are prepping one with quite a few modifications, to go into the 2001 stretched Tacoma that we built. We are anticipating 250hp. and 375lb.ft. Of torque when done. And with the new body modifications, we are aiming for 46 miles per U.S. gallon while empty/not towing, on the highway at 60MPH. We expect it would have been easier to go with the ALH engine, but wanted the strength of the BEW's bottom end as this truck is known to haul 4000-6000 lbs over long distances.
      As of yet we do not gave a kit ready, but as soon as we have the Tacoma running, the 1st kit will be available. Other kits for other model Toyotas will follow.

      Until then the best way to connect with us is the phone. Our phone number is 519-938-9844 of email us your phone number (thetoydoc@hotmail.com) and we'll call you.

      Hello Jeremiah
      Phone (519-938-9844) is the best way to get in touch with us, but you can also e-mail to thetoydoc@hotmail.com and I will do my best to reply in a timely manner. We are hoping to set up a website, but due to our location and lack of anything other than dial-up internet connection. Our prowess on internet is sorely lacking. It does give us more time and energy to focus into building and design of Toyota related products. If you wish to e-mail us with a phone number, time at which we can reach you, also an approximate location so we can figure the time zone. We would be happy to call you.
      Thank you for the inquiry.

      @toyworksautocrafters3072  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Chris and thank you for the reply
      The price of the kits varies, depending upon which truck you have; Toyota truck or Tacoma, V6 or 4 cyl ( we have kits for both transmissions ), suspension lifted or not ( stock height vehicles require our modified oil pan and pick up tube ). The price range is from $2600-$3600. As we source new suppliers for some of our pieces and develop more kits, we hope to be able to lower our costs, thus lower the price.
      Thank you greatly for the interest.
