OnePlus: How did we get here?

- OnePlus has, in 10 years, gone from making flagship-killer smartphones that require exclusive invitations to buy, to creating one of the best Android smartphones around. How did we get here? Here's a brief history lesson on OnePlus.
I am using OP 12 since 4 months and it is my first OnePlus phone. This phone passed over my expectations and i am very happy with it. Very smooth software, good quality materials and camera is just getting better and better after every update. It gives you more than what you paid for sure.
Exactly 💯
RIP oxygenOS, now is just a rebrand off some oppo UI
That's all it ever was. If you don't like it, unlock the bootloader, and install a custom rom on it.
Be it as it may, OxygenOS is still very good and getting better every year. Also, OnePlus and Oppo are owned by the same parent company, and their teams have merged, so expecting two completely different UI's isn't very realistic.
@@real45x63 the OPPO UI was always the same and you can still unlock the device (if it is not a carrier model) and install whatever rom you want on it.
@@real45x63 I couldn't have said it better myself! Thank you for telling the truth 😭
Color just win the best UI in china
Im so glad you're highlighting OP's recent comeback since OP11. Unless you're an absolute Carl Pei fanboy, objectively speaking, you have to admit OP is making some great smartphones.❤
I've always loved their phones. In fact, my first device was the 8T which I thoroughly enjoyed. Since then, I've moved on to the 11 and 12. I see myself using both of them for many years to come.
Loving your focus on OnePlus lately.
Terribly underrated brand to this day
if he's been making Samsung or iPhone content for forever, would people be complaining? i think not. please keep making OnePlus content, we love it.
After seeing this all through out these years it brings me tears as a fanboy there will be no more phones like OnePlus.
Thank you Ryan my fellow OnePlus Fanboy❤️
still rocking my OnePlus 6. on android 14 thanks to lineage OS
Don't forget, the prices in US & Canada are shown without VAT.
Have used OnePlus 5 and 6t. Both were really good phones.
The green line issue fucked them. Paying premium and still get shit.
This conception fucked them up
I had a OP 5, then 7 Pro, and now the 12, but even I don't shill this hard for Oneplus like this channel
First OnePlus phone looked like Nexus 5
they both were the rivals on those days
I recently got the 1+ 12R and it's been impressive as it's almost flagship, except the cameras and few other features. This is my 1st 1+ so the charging speed is truly amazing.
You will never go back to any phone
I really think this channel is getting paid by Oneplus. All the latest videos on this channel are about how great oneplus phones are
It's a brand that's not too much talked about lately in the western market so it's great they're giving them a bit more exposure. And AP clearly don't shy away from being critical also so that "getting paid" allegation is absolute nonsense
bro this phone is underrated asf in the western market.
Real Android nerds recognize the incredible quality and bang for your buck OnePlus offers users. Sorry n00b.
I wish people would stop the “__ is paid by __” bs. They’re simply giving their props to an amazing brand that isn’t that popular in the US. It’s great to see a channel giving props to other brands and not just Samsung and Motorola.
If you want shill content then go watch MKBHD
You failed to mention the OP7 Pro's pop-up camera.
bro.. other brands had it too.. huawei had it in y9. it's just something which was very hard to repair.. if it gets damaged by water
oppo find x was my favorite iteration of the pop up cameras
I like this video. I used to be a fan of OnePlus and oxygen os and I miss the good old days.
Oneplus used to make enthusiast focused flagship killers, now it's making flagship phones for general audiences.
Still kills all the big players in value. You just can't beat what you get for the price. 👍
Awesome video mate! Ryan does such an awesome job that it almost doesnt feel like an advertisement 😊❤
Is it one plus month or something?
You would have understood if you owned a OnePlus12 device
@@kwabena787 I do
@@StringerBellz I'ma get one eventually! I haven't been this excited about the latest OnePlus phone since the 8 Pro and 7 Pro
I was a Pixel user for about five years and was tired of having issues with the 6 and 7. I took a chance on OnePlus and coukdnt be happier.
OnePlus of today deserved this appreciation.. Having used the open and op12 i agree with him..
I really wanted to own a Oneplus back in those days(but couldn't) my favorite were Oneplus 3 and Oneplus 7T. These were master pieces, value for money and true "flagship killers"
Still using the Oneplus 6...Am amazed the phone is still snappy and battery is still good. Looking to get the Oneplus Open
Great Video and at the right time!
I am just about to make my mind up and
choosing between the 12 also Honor 6Pro
and Xperia5V
Also Xiaomi14 and 13T
So was wondering which one of these has the Best Camera
as far as Android Police is Concerned?
I couldn't be more happy with my OnePlus 12 (I only upgraded cuz Amazon had a dealvon Prime Day). I came from a OnePlus 7 Pro that is still such a solid phone. I'm not a fanboy, I just appreciate the bang for the buck and excellent quality. Rooted since 2009 ~
I was there from day one. OP1, 3T, 5T, and now the 12. All that I've had have been excellent. I know they kind of lost their way for a bit there, but the 12 is indeed, the business.
I started with OnePlus One. That was the best. The next was a 7T Pro and it was awesome, but without software updates I couldn't use anymore (for Android development). I switched to Samsung S21 (it was a junk with Exynos), later S23 Ultra (SnapDragon). But that "Ultra" is still slower than my 7T Pro was. I'm planning to jump back, but I'm waiting for OnePlus 13.
I enjoyed my 8t so much that it took the OnePlus 12 for me to finally switch
Lol actually the same bro
@@shotta4lifeishere What you mean? You did the same or you're saying it's the same phone?
@@Tax_Mny that I enjoyed my 8t so much that now I have a 12
@@shotta4lifeishere Exactly, so far I am very much happy with the 12. Hopefully I hold on to it for about 4 years or so.
The camera was the main reason I switched
Did they ever fix notification delays? The 8T was my last phone before I jumped ship to Apple and I used to have annoying delays with Messenger and Gmail notifications.
I've had (and loved) Oneplus phones since 2015, ordering my 5th yesterday with the Nord 4, mostly because I don't care much about taking photos but love the fast charging and solid specs for the price. I can't afford $1000 phones, but have never felt I lacked any features from the phones I've had.
I would like to add that the OnePlus Open is in fact a redesigned Oppo Foldable.
OnePlus isn't a company on its own anymore, it's Oppo's way to export its phones.
I had owned a 7t Pro & it was game changer by all standards and pure android with a fantastic build quality that was amazing
Great video Ryan. Had all the OP Phones including the X and Nord 1 up until the 7T. I agree they lost their way from the 8 series up until the 11. I went back to OP and bought the 11 and then the Open and I'm using the 12 as my daily. Suffice to I'm glad the OP are now back on track and will continue buying their phones if they continue on this positive trajectory.
Back story is not important, the consistency is. I already see this patern again and again.
Well I certainly love my Oneplus 11 and hope to use it for my daily driver for at least the next 2 to 3 years. Oneplus offering of 4 years support really sold me on it.
I have been a huge fan of oneplus. Between my s24 ultra and oneplus 12, I find myself just grabbing the oneplus 12 more often. It's just a better experience.
I really was into them, and loved that sandstone body. Mad grip & no fingerprints. They just priced me out,as for the NORD had 2 fail on me. I just gave up and got a Pixel.
phone manufacturers should bring the curvy design of oneplus 1 back. all phones of 2024 are rectangular with curved corners. oneplus 1 had gentle curves on top & bottom. just like nexus 5.
Good to see the channel focusing on the likes of OnePlus rather than the usual Samsung/Google duopoly.
The OP8 also introduced bloatware, with FB and other horrors pre-installed. I did stick with the OP7pro for as much as OS upgrades were released. Then sold it and went with Motorola, whose UI is clean and lets you uninstall or disabled almost everything.
This was an outstanding video on OnePlus' history! I'm in the U.S., so the OnePlus 12R is the best value you can get on any smartphone. In fact, I had the Nothing Phone 2 and returned it to get the 12R because the value is just that good. After trading in my old S21 Plus, I got the 12R for $349, just insane value when you consider the specs and build quality on this phone!
Watching from my oneplus 12 i got yesterday
Paying homage to a good brand that never gets its recognition.well done android police
I'm still using my OP 7T to this day and its still working well! Happy with it but after 5 years I'm eyeing the OP 12 lol. I used to upgrade my phone every 1 or 2 years but this phone just has been extremely solid. Even the battery life is still decent after all this time like holy shit.
I use the OnePlus 7t Pro.
As someone who doesn't like the screen pole-punch cameras, I really like the little pop up camera at the top.
I'm actually a bit sad it didn't take off, as I'm not much of a photo taker, and screen real estate is more important to me.
I'm looking at getting the nubia Red Magic 9S/10 next, but I'm not so sure about their software support, and the overall longevity of the product in comparison to other competitors.
Used to use OnePlus but when one of their phones needed support they never responded. Will never buy their equipment again.
Has this become a OnePlus channel? Feel the last few videos are all about them...
No, no.. don't say anything unless you get branded as a fanboy.. smh...
It's just that good mate
Oneplus needs all the marking and attention they can get. They are extremely underrated.
@@KapilBalagopal Last two...
@@jonnycarlson9555 it's the last 4, including this one
I'd give up wireless charging for them to release a modern verion of the 3/3T. Taking in to account technology at the time its the best phone I ever owned.
In 2021 i bought 7T pro McLaren Edition. I will never give up my 25 times dream phone 7T pro McLaren. I give up my OnePlus 8T+, my sister bought my 8T+. I had a dream of 8T+ for 15 times. After using 8T+ i downgraded to the 7T pro McLaren. I bought small phone Pixel 5. I'm using both phones 7T pro McLaren & Pixel 5. I never used Pixel phone. I had been using only OnePlus for 6 years.
I still have the same plus in this video and I also have the one plus nord n30 5g. I still prefer the cyanogen mod software on the one plus one compared to the newer one plus software on the newer phones. I wish the one plus phones still have outdoor mode to increase the display brightness even when the display is already maxed out by enabling outdoor mode with a toggle to turn on and off outdoor mode. I have always used outdoor mode on the one plus one to increase the display brightness even brighter even though I have the screen brightness maxed out at 100% even indoors 24/7. I would use outdoor mode even with oled displays if it was available even when that means it would cause burn in issues on oled displays. I already have burn in issues with every oled device that I use since I treat oled displays like they are a non oled display. I wish the newer one plus phones don't have any bloatware like during the era of cyanogen mod era of and apply the same thing with having no bloatware on any of the newer phones.
One Plus is King! Great video
people always asking more feature and low price which is not reasonable for any products in this world, what company can do is give you more/better on that price category
I found out about Oneplus when the 12 released and boy o boy, I was so upset with the obsession people were having with iPhones when there is a Oneplus 12 existing. This and the S24+ are the only two phones I need in my life and what I'm going to get...
Now I know thus channel is sponsored by one plus
Using OP12 rather than s24 ultra. And never disappoint me.❤
One plus 7pro display the goat 🐐
BTW watching in op12
Loving the long lasting battery , with crazy fast charging speed and a very good camera
I do find smartphones have gotten too stagnant with their iteration upgrades for the past 4 years roughly. That's why my next phone next year will probably be a foldable such as the OnePlus Open 2. I've moved from the HTC Sensation XE, to OnePlus One & 3T, to Huawei Mate 20 Pro, then back to OnePlus with the 9 Pro, to Google Pixel 6 Pro & now currently baring my time with my Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.
To be honest my last truly fun phone was the OnePlus 3T all though years ago.
Iv always been a oneplus fan, I like how you get so much for your money without compromise. I had the 7 pro and i must say build quality was up there with apple. After that i went to my current google pixel 7 pro.
What i look for in a smartphone is Top specs, good camera performance and a good software expirience. Its looking like Oneplus is about the only phone to offer this. I cant stand samsung UI or prices, dont like apple prices, Pixel not exactly a power house of a phone offering mid rance specs.
i agree with everything except with the Car Pei leaving because OP lost it way. You can see it by looking at the prices of Nothing Phones which are higher that Nord series but i cannot say that they are better
Can you review the nord 4 and explain the bloatwear and ads in the system
People actually whining in the comments about this channel making videos about OnePlus. And honestly, OnePlus need all of the attention and marketing they can get. Because lately they've been slipping into the LG and Sony syndrome.
Imo, this guy wouldn't have to do this if they just got their software team to stop phoning it in. The american market is extremely different, and we just don't need iOS knockoffs with several features
I miss old oxygen os but over all my op 12 is just great phone with 4/5 ✨ just could have better optical sensor with 5x zoom and touch sampling rate could be better than 240hz because lower op12r have 1000hz 🤷
If the big creators doesn’t give One Plus their flowers this year and award them phone of the year for 1+12 I’m seriously unsubscribing. I hope others do the same.
Lately the way you are blatantly praising the Oneplus had me thinking you are being paid from them 🤷♂
all the time one+1 was a OPPO sub brand, same as Nothing is now
My first was the Oneplus 6T, and the last. I loved the 7 pro but not the curved display, therefore switched to iPhone
And why all the brands based in China are all having the giant camera module ?
I don't know about that. The iPhone easily has one of the largest camera modules on the market. They just make it part of the glass to hide it, but it's definitely bigger on the 15 Pro than it is on 95% of Android phones. The only droids with a larger camera bump than an iPhone have 4+ sensors with insane lens architectures the iPhone can't dream of imitating.
Bro didn't mention the major downfall of OnePlus THE GREEN LINE

Sales them at cost. Exactly what Google should be doing
I was an OnePlus fan for years, until Oppo destroyed it with their ColorOS
Lovely how you *keep* omitting the software stability after like 1 year. What good is a great phone if you can't reliably keep it for longer than 2 years? If you're gonna keep covering oneplus, please do ot right
And now they're back with a Nord 4 whose ONLY redeeming feature is being completely made of metal. Everything else is just nothing special and entirely outclassed.
Oneplus 7t was hands down the best!

OP12 is awesome phone though
Great camera, Great battery, Great display, BEST haptic engine…
I stopped buying their phones when they started adding holes to the screen.
Had to buy S24 ultra just because this phone is not available in Australia ☹
Allow the oneplus glaze
Oneplus 11 whoopwhoop
Owning the 8T, it did not feel like the Nord, what are you on about.
Android Police has went from policing android phones to being defender of negative of android phones and phone brands
I miss these old days... i dont even like one plus anymore
As long as they are putting coloros in the name of OxygenOS, it will keep on disappointing me.
Besides, here in Bangladesh, Oneplus' reputation is considerably bad because of the green line issue on almost every oneplus phones and this company's blind eye on this issue.
The 7 Pro = 🐐
Then OP got Greedy releasing $800+ Phones 🤦🏻♂️
People complaining about them talking about OnePlus will be the same ones complaining how people only talk about Samsung and Motorola. Be thankful this channel is showing other brands and not the same tired brands.
The 7 Pro will always be the best OnePlus until they bring back the pop up camera with vertical style camera design. They've yet to release a phone since that genuinely felt like a major step up from apple and samsung, with its higher regresh rate display and all screen display. They know they'd sell like crazy if they would just bring back those features and create a 7 Pro style design yet they continue to stick to the ugly side island camera design and punchhole display for the sake of design identity, even though the 10's design was much better than the current 11 and 12, most likely the 13 as well
Is this channel owned by 1+?? lol
The Samsung fanboys crying in the comments section is hilarious 😂
So did you get bought out by OnePlus' marketing department or something? This channel has devolved into a bunch of OnePlus ads.
This is the 4th one
Garbage build quality. I had two of these phones and they both had similar issues when brand new. Display and touch screen issues. Why does no one ever talk about build quality?
Is pocket now and Android Police, owned by the same company ? I see this dude everywhere praising OnePlus 😂 dont buy an oneplus, after a year their flagship is an afterthought.
Carl Pei is the cringiest person on earth but I’m gaining interest in the one plus fold.
I hope you guys aren’t on his payroll
Please, man. No more OnePlus videos. We get it. They're great phones, but at this point you might as well be changing the name of your channel to 'OnePlus Police'.
You'd prefer Samsung Police?
