  • In preparation for International Singlespeed Day Nov 2nd, I made some modifications to the Schwinn Heavy Duti including converting the coaster brake hub so it will freewheel. I then rode it to celebrate the holiday.

I enjoy these builds. What goes into the choices you make and the finished bike. Must be a rollicoaster inside your head for coming up with fun rides 😄

Mostly the looks and what parts I have on hand dictate the build. In this case I've been moving away from coaster brake hubs I've used for many years but I wanted to keep the red rims.

Nice! I Learned something i didnt realize there were pads inside the hub for the coastal brake. 🚴‍♂️🚴‍♂️🚴‍♂️

Yes like little drum brake brake shoes on older cars I suppose. I've rebuilt so many of them but still have never really taken the time to study how they work. As you seen I just stumbled through disabling it. Some coaster brakes had a bunch of thin discs instead of pads/shoes and I don't really understand how they work either lol. Thanks for watching Timothy.

Congrats on the saddle, love those. How do you extend the bars? Are you welding them or is there another mechanism?

Thanks. Yes I weld them on. It's short enough extension that it's hidden in the grip.

I thought it looked way better with the BMX crossbar...

I agree. I just don't like the more upright seating position they provide as it makes me feel like a big sail when going into a headwind.
