My marshmallow bloomed yesterday, June 29, 2024, and I just adore this magnificent plant. The seeds came from you Heidi! Thank you!
I just bought 2 plants. I have no idea how to grow them, so I’m thankful for this video.
I use marshmallow leaves, seeds and flowers making soups, salads, pilafs .you can combine it with lentil, rice, potatoes, onions. It is so versatile.
Fresh flowers?
@@birutybeiruty4469 yes, mallow has small flowers which turn into seeds, it’s sort of button shape. Flowers I put in salads and the leaves I cook with onion, potatoes S&P, paprika, little bit of lemon juice. Some people also break an egg at the end and mix.
@@karinehestes2928 thanks I have them wild in the garden. Use flowers in infusion but never thought of eating them.
Wow, such a great video. You’ve helped a young man out on the start of his herb learning journey.
Hi dear Lady, the Marshmallows grow very nice in your garden. I battled to get some seeds and eventually I found some. I've planted them direct into the ground and are so lucky to see how they sprout and grow. They are still low on the ground but have huge leaves. I'm going to take a leaf and mak a salve with it and combine it with Calandula and Plantain for the skin. Wil pick another leaf to make a tincture for the gut with Calandula and Plantain. Thank you so much for teaching me about these lovely plants. I study herbs for almost 3 decades now and certainly never stop learning.
I am growing this plant and you are the reason why . I did start from seed. So they are small. I am looking for good things next year. Thank you for sharing these benefits.
Excited now. Think I have some! Will be moving it to a garden space I started.
I just recently grew this from one of those hydroponic seed systems. It germinated in less than a week! Once it was a a few inches tall I transplanted it into dirt pot and then eventually into the desired spot in the ground. It’s doing really well although it hasn’t bloomed yet.
I started Marshmallow plants from seed this spring. The plant is amazing and I loved watching it grow this year. I have several autoimmune disorders like psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis that cause a lot of inflammation. I use marshmallow leaves, nettle leaves, all heal, and turmeric in a tea and I have normal inflammation markers. I started mine with the winter sowing method.
All the time God is good!!1
Wonderful
I just discovered a common mallow in my garden. I have no idea how it got there as I did not plant it and it wasn’t there last year (maybe I picked it thinking it was a weed) but I’m sure glad it’s there! Mine has purple/pink flowers.
beautiful plant - combining it with slippery elm has been primo for my dryness issues
Sorry ,I wrote my first comment before I got to the end of the video, you gave the information. Thank you.
Love this root. Used it for years
I never knew marshmallow grew that tall! Now that I have the herb books (which I ordered several months ago LOL) I need to find time to sit down and read them. My best friend of more than 30 years has been diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. She has been drinking alot of marshmallow tea and finds that it is helping with the discomfort of digestive upset & chemo. Thanks again, Heidi. Keep on keepin' on, k?
Love & prayers
Thanks for sharing that with me about your friend, it is good to have testimonies from real people about how these different herbs benefit them! Always appreciate your kind words and interaction Kathleen!
I followed your advice on this plant two years ago. I have tons of flowers. I am using it as a hair rinse. Along with. All of my others, They're beautiful thanks
Can I ask what you do for it to be a hair rinse?
Been struggling with a burning pain in my stomach. Probably gastritis or ulcer. This has helped so much
How are you now @avratzz
Is your gastritis healed now? I am suffering with gastritis and terrified to take the H2 blockers doctors pass out. Terrible burning stomach and now only 97 pounds. Been coming on slowly now.
@@widowswatch6610 whatever I did have seems to have healed up at this point
I have musk mallow by me. The seed pods are so beautiful. Now I know how to use it!!
I've been doing some reading on this plant but I missed that it came up every year! I want to start planting this, but I 'm going to have to come up with a different place to plant it now. You saved the day!! Haha Thanks for the video.
Beautiful marshmallows! Yes, I'd love to know how to make those!😊
Hoping I can grow some this year…medicinal garden is growing a bit at a time…thank you for sharing…
Excellent video explaining how to grow and use this plant!
In a world full of negative news ( alas it's our world now) I so enjoy hearing your voice and your lessons!
Well this aged well 😳
you have solved my life, im botanist but you are awesome , thanks god bless
I ADORE this plant. It likes damp sandy conditions ideally. As in the name Marsh Mallow. I love all the species in the genus 💟
Such a mega useful plant.
Yep, and I seem to find new uses for it all the time, the leaves get used in my homemade skin cream that I sell on my store, in salads and in teas, the root I use mostly in teas. I have used it in my homemade shampoo and someday I need to add some to my next herbal vinegar for hair wash/rinse. I use the leaves in my homemade soaps quite a bit too
I have been wondering about it for a while since I can't seem to get a straight answer online. Lol my question: is Mallow the same thing as Marshmallow? We have been looking for a while, but we already have Mallow seeds. They're the Vulcan variety though. I put this same question on the 5 ways to save on gardening video you posted on 03-14-2023 just in case the question here doesn't get through or seen or whatever. Thanks for always sharing your knowledge. 😊
They are related but different varieties. There are several in the mallow family but Marshmallow is its own unique plant. From what I understand, all mallow has medicinal properties but marshmallow has the most. I sell marshmallow seeds. If you are interested, contact me at raincountryhomestead@gmail.com and I will send you a product list
Thats a good piece of information about the birds liking to eat them when they sprout out of the ground🥰🥰
I started a whole pkg of seeds after cold stratifying in the fridge. I got 3 plants to grow, yay! They didn't flower at all until I moved the pot to get full sun (Didn't realize it wasn't sunny enough where they were). One flower....moving them to the garden now.
I found & bought some organic marshmallow plant root so I can see if it is going to help my guts, but don't know how to use it yet💞 Hoping one of your videos will show me how🥰 Thank you so much for all the great information you share with us Heidi, God bless 🥰
I just sue the dried roots or leaves in teas. I also use them in my homemade cough, cold and flu syrup and the dried leaves go in my infused oil for skin cream
I know this is 6 years old, but I have a rather large marshmallow in my garden. I planted it a few years ago along with a number of medicinal plants. I recently decided to look for some information on what to do with it because it is getting massive. It is probably 2-3 ft wide and at about 6ft tall right now, but hasn't flowered yet this year. I also noticed some babies sprouting in the ground below the original plant. I have a really wet area that nothing else will grow in. After it goes dormant, I will gather some of the roots, will also try making some tea with the leaves.
Hello, from Goldendale, WA. Building a healing school. I have been to Forks a few times. Beautiful area. Will definately need some seeds. Building a forest garden this spring.
I think I have been through Goldendale, isn't that where the Stonehenge memorial is?
Please make a video making marshmallow from the actual plant, it looks sooo good and I’d like an all natural recipe for my rice crispy treats. You are amazing and thanks for sharing all of the wonderful knowledge 💜
I might at some point, just not sure when I will get to it
Could you tell me where I would find plants to put in my garden? I'm in Dallas.
@@RainCountryHomestead Hi Hiedi I would really like to see a video on how to make a Marshmallow making video. But I realise your very busy indeed. So I will go to You Tube and see if some other person has made a video on making your own Marshmallows. Not sure what to use for sweetener. Maybe honey.
Very good video, Heidi. Thank you for inspiring others to grow and use herbs. I do use it daily in one of my morning tea blends. It is also a diuretic, so I don't use it after noon. Used for it's laxative qualities
Your garden is so beautiful. 💕🌸. I don’t have this plant yet....now I need to get one!!
I have this plant on my plantage...wild white marshmallow, and I make only tea from roots. Its an amazing plant.
How do you make your mallow root tea? Hot/cold infusion, how long before straining. Thanks for any input ;)

Wonderful share! Love your wisdom, and inspiration! That is so amazing the you make marshmallow from real marshmallow! 💕
Getting ready to start these so this video was extremely helpful, blessings!
Love that plant. Is that grown from seed, or did you buy the plant. Thanks for sharing.would love to have one love the blooms
Wow I really love your video. Got a ton of inspiration from this. Thank you so much!
Another great and informative video! I so enjoy your channel- you are informative. Thanks again for all you do.
your garden is beautiful Heidi
I planted it 2 years ago. It's coming up everywhere. Not even too close to original plant. Live northern lower Michigan
Same here now! I even have it coming up in my strawberry pots, haha
I always learn something new from your channel. You never disappoint with some of the knowledge you share. Thank you
This is the best i have ever seen, just amazing. I love this plant i use it for interstitial cystitis and anything that soothes the system, your such a blessing thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much Patricia!
💜the intro👍 yes God is good always!
It's beautiful, do you have a lot of hummingbirds?
I started some from seed this year. I accidentally pulled it up! Without realizing until it was to late. Don't pull weeds in mourning you will end up crying and not be able to see what you are doing.
I enjoyed this video very much. I have been anxious to know more about the marshmallow plant. Very tall indeed! God bless you Heidi and Mr Rain!
I am wondering if it is going to keep getting taller? I had no idea it would get that big, I would have likely planted it elsewhere had I known! Thank you Cindy
Oh, Heidi can't wait till my marshmallow plants get this big and start blooming. I never knew til I started watching you, all the great benefits of the plant. My plants from the seeds I purchased from you is about 2 feet tall now, my feverfew has gone wild, LOL, thank you dear friend for all you do, blessings
So glad to hear those plants are dong great!
Took me two years but my marshmallow FINALLY got real big and flowered this year! So when fall comes, what should I do? Cut them down to nothing and they grow back or let the stems just stick around? Thanks!
2 years is the standard time for marshmallow to get big. The marshmallow will die back but the dead dry stalks will often stay. You can cut them down in the fall but are easier to just break off at the base in the spring as they are very dry by that point
Spending my time watching and reading your content makes my day! Thank you! I have a play list called know grow and use herbs and I have every one of your herb videos there. When I am doing research in my books on an herb I can go to my list and re-watch your videos. You and Pat are a blessing! Love and prayers❤
I managed to save all these 84 herb videos in my Libary.
I posted that 5 years ago❤️ and I have saved all of them too😊 Heidi and Patrick are still a blessing!
Thanks, Heidi. (My second daughter's name is Heidi. :-D) Great information. I love learning from your experiences at living a simpler, self-sustaining life. It's the path I long to perfect. I value your knowledge and record in my notebooks all that I learn. Blessings.......
Thank you! :D
Heidi: TY for doing this video. I recently received a marshmallow plant and I potted it. It is only about 8 in. tall. Does it spread easily?
Mallow is a Beautiful plant to have... Yours are awesome... :) Wait isn't Mallow & Mashmallow the same plant?
There are different varieties of the mallow, marshmallow is one of them :D
I would love to see a video on making homemade marshmallows from the plant! I’ve heard mixed things about the end result, so I’m very curious!
I would love for you to do a video on how to make marshmallows. I want to make some for Sukkot for the kids.
I will definitely be growing this. Thank you or your videos.
Thank you for your time too Denise :D
Thank you. Usta live in Bellingham and Tacoma
Thank you. One of the great things I learned when I was in Bellingham was Poutine. GOOD STUFF. Also I just ordered dried stinging nettles from amazon.
Great info. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for your video on Marshmallows. I now know that the plant is at least 4 foot tall or in your garden even taller. Will plant mine up against the hedge
This video is old and my marshmallow now gets 8' tall
Have you used Bee Balm (Mondarda/Bergamot) for bee stings? It grows a gorgeous flower and so many pollinators but I didn't realize until a month ago that the name comes from centuries of usage to eliminate pain from bees stings. I look forward to another in-depth video on marshmallow as I finally got some growing from seeds. So excited. The name seems to indicate it needs moisture (marsh mallow) so maybe I didn't give it enough moisture before. We'll see this time. So many germinated and I'm in FL so it should do very well.
I tried to grow it once but it never took off. I would like to try again at some point but I have so many great flowers for our pollinators and many herbs good for stings, plantain is one of them. On two different occasions I was stung by a wasp while in the garden, I grabbed a leaf of plantain, chewed it up and put it directly on the sting and within two minutes the sting was gone and did not even leave a mark
@@RainCountryHomestead I have been unable to grow plantain here and that is shocking since it is considered a weed BUT I did try tulsi exactly as you dscribed and it worked the same for sand gnats and mosquito bites that covered my two grands while fishing. Guess that is why God made so many - whatever bites/grows in your locale he has a solution.
Yep! I grow Tulsi as well but it is more of a precious thing since I can only grow it well in the green house in pots, limiting the amount I can grow
Lol I didn’t know about this plant until I started getting these little sodas called olipops. I’m always looking for Healthy junk food lol and it has marshmallow root in it and every time I drank that soda I felt sooooo much better . The sodas are like a health food soda with no sugar . I think it has agave in it or no wait it’s Stevie . Well I’m not 100 💯 what they use to sweeten it ….
God,bless you,.also... "I have to see how you make marshmallows !"
I make/sell pain relief products in New Zealand, you mentioned you have pain, I make a pain relief oil using comfrey root doing a hot infusion in grapeseed oil. Its a wonderful seller. I have many users that say this product is better than morphine, and I get 23-25 hours pain relief from one application. You could make just a small amount in a small container on the stove you have. Just cut roots up small, and I leave them in a crockpot on low for a day or so.
I grow many herbs good for pain relief and make several different blends that work great for me based off these herbs and also on some spices I buy because I cannot or do not grow them. I also have a muscle and joint rub I make that works great for that kind of pain. While I have a video on my two pain relief capsule blends scheduled to come out in a few weeks, I do have videos on my pain relief extract, muscle relaxer tincture, and also the muscle rub :)
I have reumatoide arthritis would you recommend this for me?
Can you tell me how to do the infusion?
Nothing is better than morphine for pain. Lol
@@dulceamanecer4096 I also have Rheumatoid Arthritis & 26 other chronic illnesses causing unbearable pain & I know for a fact this won't touch your pain.
Please make video on how to make the marshmallows from harvest to end.. I would truly appreciate it there’s no videos showing how..
There is a video on You Tube called "Weird 200 year old Marshmallows. How to Cook that. I havn't watched it yet but will do have written it down for later research for when I have the plant growing in my garden.
I'm also in Washington, near Auburn and started some from seed inside last spring and it is doing good, it has its first flower. I didn't know if it was going to do anything because it was so small last year.
Thank you for this video. I have a 2-year old Marshmallow plant and growing it in a pot. It is probably about 4' tall and last night we had winds and heavy rain which bent the stalks over so badly I had to harvest. My question to you....I have a lot of flower BUDS. I went ahead and put them in my dehydrator. So, can we use the buds? Are there seeds in them?
Yes, all parts are edible but as far as if there are seeds, if they had not opened yet, then it is a little unlikely there are seeds and if there are, they would be very tiny and not mature
Thanks for sharing, have a lovely weekend.
Excellent, Could you make some videos in how to use it? Thank you
I have a cough cold and flu remedy coming out and I will likely be making another tincture soon. I also have a few videos out where I use it in my tea blend, making herbal soap, and shampoo. I think there may be a couple more but I do not remember what all there are now.
Hi I love your videos and information. I am desperate 70 and NOW 97 pounds with continued burning stomach and gastritis. Doctors don’t help me. They all give out PPi’s and H2 blockers. Any suggestions to coat and heal the stomach before I am dead. Thanks
Best I can do is link you to the video I did on digestive health: th-cam.com/video/QWspFfmDAYo/w-d-xo.html
I have a plant that came up in my garden, looks just like marshmallow, but the little flowers are a different colour
What color are the flowers?
They a very light mauve
Marshmallow is related to hibiscus roselle and I noticed my roselle grew very tall and in single stocks like your marshmallow, but when I topped them after they had about 8 pairs of leaves mine grew lots of side shoots, making my plants much more productive then the year’s previously had been. But the resells hibiscus are an annual so I don’t know if it would beneficial for you with the marshmallow. Marshmallow does not grow well here in central Florida, as for what I can find on google….. but anyways I was just trying to see if this might be something to try to see if you can get more flowers and leaves. Especially if you don’t want to uproot the whole plant for the roots.
Boy, this is an old video, my marshmallow gets 8-10 feet tall now and I have a whole forest of it in my back yard plus several more plants in other areas around the property. Now that it is well acclimated, I get a great many new baby plants that come up from fallen seeds every year. Here is my newest marshmallow video that just came out last week: th-cam.com/video/MOqRFPnKMoI/w-d-xo.html
Hi ya Heidi! Wow! They get tall, I thought of planting these on the front side of my yard along the fence between me and Neibors, they’ll need to go elsewhere along the stockade fence else Neibors will call me n, or can they be trimmed staying at a certain height? They r beautiful! I use to belong to a spinning group, afterwards we would go to this sandwich/pastry shop to eat, the dumpster swarmed with bees, the group thought I was crazy, cause I’d walk right up to it and bees just buzzed around me, ohh I’ve been stung before, several times, but not by them, it was cool! Thank u
The upper parts of the plants die back for the winter then look kind of ugly. I still need to get out there and cut down the dead stalks. Then they grow totally new stalks in the spring. It amazes me how fast they can grow to 10 feet or more!
Please do the video on how to make the sweet marshmallows.
maybe someday but it is a long process and the only thing I would ever want to have a stand mixer for and I do not intend on buying a stand mixer so it is doubtful it will happen
love the name of the plant!!!
Maybe mine isn't marshmallow.. the leaves on mine are more round. I guess I better investigate it more. Sounds like a awesome plant though!
It could be a hollyhock from which I understand has similar benefits to the marshmallow, though you will want to look into that for yourself based on what that plant looks like.
Mine is common marshmallow! Yeah!
Loved this video.
To make your tea blend, do you use pansy flowers or leaves?
Yes, you can use flowers and leaves from pansies and marshmallow
I have common Malva. Can this be used in the same way as yours? My plant has purple flowers and the leaf shape is slightly rounder than yours. Thank you for these great
They do have similar benefits since they are closely related, hollyhocks as well
Heidi...do you use common mallow that grows wild in the same way?
It can be used the same but if I remember correctly, does not have quite as many benefits as the Marshmallow, but still good
@@RainCountryHomestead thank you!
Borax is so amazing for pain
Heidi, how do you make tea with the fresh leaves. My marshmallow plant is finally about 2 feet tall (after trying for a couple of years to grow it.) We have had a bad allergy season here that just won't quit. And - can I do the same with any herbal leaves from my garden that are okay for making tea such as echinacea? By the way, my marshmallow leaves are round not pointy like yours. I was worried I had the wrong plant when I discovered that there are varieties of marshmallow.
How young are your plants, the marshmallow leaves start out more round but get pointed as the plant matures through the season,
I make tea from fresh leaves the same way I did in the recent tea video that published earlier this week
@@RainCountryHomestead My plant is only in the ground for about 3 months. It has grown about 1 1/2 feet since planting. It is only about knee high or less.
@@BAYOUTOWNProductions I suspect you will likely start seeing the shape change, unless you have a different variety
Thank you
So each fall can I cut at the lower stem to harvest and it still grow back next year? I’d like the roots to get thicker before harvesting those.
Yes, you can. I do not bother until spring as it is easier just to break off the old stalks then but of course, the dry stalks are not that pretty to look at through the winter
Hi maam,,until now i am still suffering with my acid reflux or gerd for about 4 months,,does marsmallow can helf my gerd? I hope you can reach out my concern,,thanks maam and God blesss...

Hi..doctor did cystoscopy and found " innumerable glomerulation with petechial hemorrhage seen in posterior bladder wall(typical of interstitial cystitis)".
will this work in case of male patient? i am from india ..suffering from this disease since last 8 years.
I cannot answer that so it is best you do some research into that for yourself
I wonder if its possible to keep them trimmed back and they still bloom and do fine?
I do cut them back from time to time but it usually slows the production of flowers. However, the leaves have more benefits than the flowers do
For infused oils- do you use fresh leaf or dry? Thanks!
For oils you should always use dried: th-cam.com/video/ZE3it47z1OQ/w-d-xo.html
Do they come in pink flowers too
They have some pink in them but are mostly white. There is a close mallow relative, that does not get as tall and has different shaped leaves that have pink flowers and similar benefits
Is it good for throat inflammation I guess? It grows wild in my garden.
It should be helpful
have you tried cutting them back to keep them shorter?
yes
How and where do you get this? And take it for burning gastritis stomach. I am desperate thanks
You can by the dried root online: amzn.to/3qs42ax
Question: can common Mallow be used the same as Marshmallow?
It can and it does have similar benefits but marshmallow is known to be generally better than the common mallow
@@RainCountryHomestead thank you
The plant reminds me of Holly Hock.
I rather does now that I think about it
Denise View probably related , many similarities 💚💗🌱
Definitely related - hollyhock, okra, a number of others. All in mallow family

Hey Heidi 🥰
THANK YOU MUCH, IT ALSO BREAKS UP HARDEN POOP
FROM YOUR INTESTINES!
Where we can this plant from? I live in Australia
The Flowers & Plant in general reminds me of Hollyhock which surprised me because I thought for sure it would be like other Mallows. Do the flowers attract Butterflies? 'Cos those leaves look like Caterpillar Manna. Lol. Once they're established in the border do they self-propogate?
We get a few butterflies but not many, that is just in general so I cannot say if these specifically attract them. We do get a LOT of bees though, they mostly love the borage but also all the other flowering things in the garden such as the catnip, lavender, and so on.
Though they get tons of seed, I have yet to see any tiny plants spring up, however, I think that is because of our climate. Most herbs, flowers, tomatoes, and peppers grow best from seed here when started in pots inside or in the greenhouse. That is what I had to do to get these going in the first place. Now feverfew, borage, and yarrow do not have a problem growing from fallen seeds, feverfew and borage especailly, those end up springing up all over the place and I end up having to pull many of them!
Marshmallow does get bigger every year though so I can harvest more leaves each year off the same plant than I did the year before.
I just want to mention, that I'm from SOUTH AFRICA in the Free State area.
