My great aunt had beautiful teeth. As a child I was impressed enough to ask how she took care of her (70 year old) teeth. She said willow bark toothpicks.

I use willow instead of hormone rooting compound .Cut green willow wands into small pieces place in hot water leave tea to draw the longer the stronger it gets. It is good for hard to root plants place plant stems in the tea and wait for roots also good as root tonic. Great channel.

I live on a wetland and love-- and weave with-- willow. My weaving teacher said the time test for peeling-- 'stripping'-- the willow (to make white rods) is when the emerging leaves are the size of a mouse's ear. This is when the sap is running such that one needs only to skritch and pick loose the bark at the bottom of a cut rod and pull it up and off! Before or after this window works, with varying results, but it is very slick and satisfying to catch it at that time and be able to quickly strip the rods with comparatively little effort.
Thank you for this, and all your educational and inspiring videos.

@@dorin9064 I don't have the answer, but as I read your question it occurred to me that the way to do it might be to, put willow whips into water and keep it topped up and let it root. This will mean that the water itself must be full of a rooting hormone. Then use that water to start off a rooting process for other things. I think I shall try it like that.

    • @richardtrowell8812

@@dorin9064 My wife roots cuttings from many plants by putting them in potting soil an then covering it up with a 2 liter bottle cut in half and putting it in the sun. Like a terrarium. Perhaps that would work on trees as well. Takes about two weeks. I presume the soil would have to be wetter than normal since that is the environment it prefers. Let me know if you have any success.

We like willow very much, made a sort of mistake in bring some home, actually my husband made 2 very nice chairs from some, the mistake came when I put some small cuttings in our yard, we now have a small forest of sandbar willow.

    • @christensixkiller9836
      @christensixkiller9836 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

Haha, yeah. Willow propagates like no other. If you wanted to propagate other plants to add to your "new medicinal garden", you can actually take a few cuttings and put them in water, let it sit for a few days to a week. The natural rooting hormone from the plant will leach into the water, which you can then use as a rooting serum to start any other plant or herb that you want to propagate.

We've always had it, we just got disconnected and put our trust in others instead of remaining self sufficient.
Our grandparents and great grandparents knew all of this information. They all helped out at home and learned from their elders.
They could grow and cook food everything from scratch.
These days everyone is too busy WORKING outside the home to be growing their food, and very few cook their own food, it's mainly take out and frozen.
Most people don't have time to teach their children these life skills that have been lost.
But thankfully one good thing that has come out of the pandemic it that people have finally started realizing how helpless they really are when it comes to cooking, baking and growing their foods.
      Huge Wake Up!!
Plus how difficult it was to teach the kids.
We kids used to have no problem with learning from our parents, aunts, uncles and grandparents. We were much better at knowing the value of their knowledge.
Kids these days think that why listen to and adult about how to do something when they can go online and learn .
Great but they barely use the internet for knowledge.
It's mainly games, social media, and videos not about knowledgeable subjects either.
      ✌❤🇨🇦🐈

@@Herbal_Jedi there are a few ways to go about making the rooting compound , one you can tap a willow like a maple and draw sap , let sap evaporate for a few days in a dry place , put cuttings in sand water with 50 % solution of willow sap to water , keep sand moist with solution for 10 to 14 days , plants should root just fine second way is to make a tea with a bunch of willow sticks , soak for three days in closed mason jar in window after three days should be ready to go . use same way as first method or you can root the plant right in the water . willow is an amazing tree and has been a big part of healing and craft work over thousands of years thank you for talking about such a great tree , love and respect, have a great day ...

i live in the prairie and i go sometime to get willow wood to make arrow for bow,, where i get them they grow alone in the middle of a farming field, the patch is about 10 meter in circumference ,and the tip of the branch are all eaten by deers and maybe mooses, ,anyway what i want to say is how much i enjoy watching the intricate weaving and interspecies relation and cooperation ,like that cooperation with the willow and the deer,, the willow tell the deer where there is water, the willow will smell strong and make bud to attract deers in the spring ,, deer grows antler , by eating the willow they probably get relieve from some inflamation due to the growth.,making the deer more healty,,, the willow get nutrient from the poop and a trim of the branches which indeed keep the willow tight small and hardy and straight ,which is perfect for me to make arrow so that i can get deers meat in the fall .... nature is awesome beyond believe...

I grew up Lin Massachusetts looking forward every year to the pussy willow buds showing up. The forsythia bloomed around that time as well. I have taken white willow in the capsules in the past for pain ( was a horse trainer), and shared my limited knowledge about it with others. You add a whole different dimension on the willow plant. I now live in an apartment in San Diego. Worrying about fires because I’m next to a canyon ( although very green and beautiful) , hasn’t burned in over on hundred years. Wish I was there. Glad to see a young family man like you look at this beautiful earth and really see how we are so deeply connected to it.

When you mentioned "bioavailability", were you referring to the tinctures with alcohol or the power form? Amazing video, you speak with both knowledge and passion of this plant. My daugher and I will look for the willows in April. Thank you for the inspiration ❤❤❤❤❤

Willow seems to hit early this year 2021 in nor cal it is January and starting to sprout it's fuzzy buds. Speaking of the buds I was wondering if you were able to use the buds for a tea? I also didn't hear about the pink inner bark which is what I thought was the baby aspirin alike? I wanted to say thank you very much for all your lovely videos and invaluable information you share. I seem to be intuitively drawn to these plants must be from heritage ancestral traits but have lost the knowledge as to why, so these informative videos are extremely helpful and important to me so thank you for being you and doing what you do.

So as soon as I saw the beginning and you were talking about the Willow Bark well willow tree is my absolute favorite since childhood and remains to be this day
And as soon as I saw the plant I thought my God these look like pussy willow and the reason I know this is because as a child I had an outfit in on that jacket or pussy willows and it was my absolute favorite and I wasn’t sure why but I know that there’s a connection to everything and sound this is perfect for me. My love plants And trees started long ago
Little did I know this life I would become a Health psychic in my childhood was bringing full of gardens that were full of food so in the last 13 years so much has happened that is taking me on this journey that led me to this last four years rent in service and I know that there’s a lot more to come
I very much enjoy your shares and your passion
Now as far as the calendar goes I am a Leo Son but I’m only 8° in on the first Deacon which means I’m more like previous sign which makes perfect sense because that’s cancer. And of course that’s water and then if you look at the remaining parts in my chart that are interesting I’m a Libra ascendant and libra moon in the 12th house
The 12th House is the house of Pisces which is water
I also have Scorpio leaving the 12th house. And stationed in first Neptune conjunct Neptune rules Pisces Scorpio is a water sign it’s the third water sign and there’s three of each. I have a lot of Scorpio in my chart. Interesting now because I was born a Leo which is a fire sign in my north node is also my Northstar and that’s a fire sign as well so it’s the baby beginnings in the teenager that’s how I see Leo
In my north node we’re talking about the sixth house that is governed by Virgo And in that house I have Saturn and I have Chiron the wounded healer retrograde 3°. So your north node in those people who aren’t familiar and want to understand a little bit more about my comment will understand that that is the direction I am meant to go on this life each of the numbers are considered houses in each house is an aspect in your life which is perfect because for me if I had known this long ago I would’ve understood and I was meant to be in the field of health and career or my careerWould be in health For me with Chiron being present or conjunct I would realize that I would dare mini ones and I would have to kill them myself and of course nature has perfect medicine it is on adulterated by the human I misunderstood by science because it has so many benefits in so many Functions. The body knows precisely what to do with it even if we can’t fathom just how amazing they are
I truly believe that animals have taught us much of what we know and of course our intuition
For those who aren’t long into their journey with plant medicine start with the things that are growing around you I guarantee those are the things that your body needs and has communicated to nature and nature has responded with growing exactly what medicines you Require at this time it’s such a phenomenal relationship that we have I don’t think people can even grasp the depth and the beauty

Another absolutely wonderful video, thank you Yarrow :) I understand the layers that Willow can help to balance. Willow was my best-loved early childhood plant, my go-to place, later superceded by a local species gum tree, but I miss having willows in my life. You mentioned that all species of willows contain Salicin in their bark. Does that mean that the Weeping Willow, Salix babylonica, my beloved 'weed' species that I can't grow but have always loved, can also be used for headaches or arthritis and fever ie as an aspirin replacement? Is any species known as a willow, in the genus Salix, that tastes of aspirin, useful for this? I'm sorry if I missed some comment relating to this.. I know you mentioned that the various species have different uses despite having the same chemistry :) Thank you so much for all that you do.. 🌹🌻❤️🌻🌹
