I thought that version of Australia was gonna be the best song.. but then, i heard that version of So Says I! That one was my favorite for sure. Incredible energy! Also, like basically everyone else in this thread, i miss this lineup. Either way, Mercer is a musical genius!
I was one of those folks who found out about The Shins from that scene in Garden State, and it DID change my life. I freaking love every single piece of music that James Mercer has put out into the world.
Luna Steppenwolf i heard "New Slang" playing on a local radio station, but there was no DJ so I didn't know the name of the song. I recorded it with my crappy phone (this was probably 2009) and some time later remembered it. I looked up on Google whatever lyrics I understood ("I'm looking in...") and well, the rest is history. By the way, I like the flipped Heartworms album more than the original.
As a die hard Portman fan, she led me here too from my fav movie Garden State. I had an emotional explosion after going down this trail too. :) Merry Christmas! The Shins are epic.
Phantom Limb is such a beautiful sounding song,.. I never knew what the lyrics were about (googled it: two lesbians in a small town school... wtf, never would've guessed that), but the line/s "so, when they tap my/our Sunday/Monday head(s), two zombies walk in our stead" always made me shiver. One of the best Pop-songs ever written to me, and I am very thankful for the hours of joy, cheer and comfort this song has spend me.
The complete "Wincing the Night Away" album (which is said to be about insomnia mostly, and it gives me that very insomniac feeling, love it!) is wonderful and an album I come back to again and again
@@denizb.6882 you should persevere with Chutes Too Narrow - it's a fantastic album. Not as polished as Wincing, but in a good way. Wincing is amazing though!
So I’m confused… some of these sound exactly like the ITunes session. Are some of these same as that? For instance So Says I and Australia sound the same while Phantom Limb is clearly not.

This is amazing ‼️
I could hear this on rotation
Why is Dave Hdz playing bass , not complaining, wish he was back with the band...
First time I saw them Dave and Marty kinda split the guitar/bass/keyboard parts between them. Same thing here. :)
this is beautiful !! thanks !

Sure sounds different without those studio doubled lead vocals.
hopefully they can fix it in the mix :)
