Massey has notoriously good sound but you're right, this has something special going on. Every instrument is perfectly balanced and represented. Flawless from beginning to end.
Andy Shauf is one of the best songwriters... the way he tells the story of the flip side of the coin on "My Dear, Helen"- In a hauntingly beautiful way that is, fittingly, so different from "Jerry was a Clerk". The man is focking brilliant!
Glad he's starting to get the attention he deserves. Such good music with fantastic melodies and emotional lyrics. Bearer of bad news is one of my favorite albums.
0:39 Twist Your Ankle 4:13 You're Out Wasting 7:52 Quite Like You 11:18 Early To The Party 15:51 The Worst in You 18:40 My Dear Helen 23:10 The Magician
Hi Andy, this is to let you know I’m grateful to be able to witness your talent. Truly awesome songwriting. And thank you to everyone who made this recording possible!
Seriously, guys, I love everything about this video. But please... PLEASE Upload a version without the interview over the songs, some beautiful arrangements get lost in between because of that.
The only bad part of this video is when they cut to the interview in the middle of that beautiful performance of Early to the Party. Amazing recording still
Everyone in the audience is so captivated and is whisked away to the magical place that is Andy’s music. THIS is a performance. THIS is an audience. THIS is pure genius.
Man... I'm having goosebumps here, so many emotions in a 26 minutes concert, how I wish I could go to one of his concerts, but I live on the other side of the world 😂
I shook his hand at a Constantines concert in the basement bar of Massey Hall and I told him I loved his music. Not long after that he played there. One of Canada's greatest songwriters.
I'm dying to see him live again, he was in Tennessee and I drove a BIT to see him...and of course COVID messes up a concert he was going to do where I live, LITERALLY twenty minutes away =| Can't wait!!
AHHHHHH yes. I've been waiting since the day after I went to this show for any video of it. I felt everyone just may have been floating above their seats this night. What a captive audience we were. All love!
Saw this live. Incredible he’s currently on tour with the new album and just saw him again in Calgary. If your able to I’d really recommend seeing him live
Amazing live and performance ! Arrangement is beautiful so gentle and comforting ! Everything matches perfectly ! And Andy’s voice... so fragile and easy going at the same time ! 🙏
Fun fact: Olivier, the drummer in this video, is the same drummer in the Timber Timbre Live at Massey Hall performance. I guess andy was a big fan of that band and hijacked their drummer ;)
Wow! Is that oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet, three strings? Miles used bass clarinet to great effect in Bitches Brew. This is gorgeous in Massey Hall. Where Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker changed the world.
right!? Except they end up editing it to put his interview over the best part of the song? that's the best time to hear that bass line break through. Broke my heart. haha.
Can we get a version of this where Andy doesn't literally talk in the middle of a song? Like come on, the build up in Early to the Party is basically ruined.
All these years later I'm still coming back to this video
I attended the show with a broken foot and left a healed man.
lol
I mis-read this as "I attended the show with a broken foot and a left-headed man".
Momentarily, highly intrigued!
Did you twist your ankle or something?
Lmao subtle setlist pun. I like
I totally believe this. 🙏
The magician is a masterpiece; i hope hes super proud of it.
Shout out to whoever did the sound for this show, and on this recording. Sounds amazing.
Yes, it’s so well designed. Like a nice plate of comfort food. It just works.
Spoiler alert, there are credits at the end ;) :D But yes!
@@yobhsiFehT Thanks!
Hands down the best sounding show I’ve been at. Incredible performance.
Massey has notoriously good sound but you're right, this has something special going on. Every instrument is perfectly balanced and represented. Flawless from beginning to end.
this guys voice is flawless,no difference than the studio recording s
This band is the most patient, subtle, perfect support. 💪

Still so impressed over this dudes musical talent.
Andy Shauf is such an outstanding songwriter, so intimate and personal, his music is very dear to my heart 💙

That was so tight!!!! Andy is the man 🙏
Hero!
Hi Andy, this is to let you know I’m grateful to be able to witness your talent. Truly awesome songwriting. And thank you to everyone who made this recording possible!
alright 3 years later lets talk about this drummer
Seriously, guys, I love everything about this video.
But please... PLEASE
Upload a version without the interview over the songs, some beautiful arrangements get lost in between because of that.
the ending of the magician is magnificent
'My Dear Helen' was absolutely soul shattering.
I don't know how he ever gets though it without busting into tears.
The only bad part of this video is when they cut to the interview in the middle of that beautiful performance of Early to the Party. Amazing recording still
Everyone in the audience is so captivated and is whisked away to the magical place that is Andy’s music. THIS is a performance. THIS is an audience. THIS is pure genius.
this video is exactly what you want from a live video. terrific music, phenomenal shots, wonderful editing
Merci à vous 👋
Merci d'exister et de nous faire parvenir vos musiques et chansons. C'est un véritable plaisir et réconfort. 🙏🏼👍🌻
Man... I'm having goosebumps here, so many emotions in a 26 minutes concert, how I wish I could go to one of his concerts, but I live on the other side of the world 😂
João Silva Just buy a plane ticket?
Finally! He got his drummer to take it down a notch. Those parts sound incredible at that dynamic.
I shook his hand at a Constantines concert in the basement bar of Massey Hall and I told him I loved his music. Not long after that he played there. One of Canada's greatest songwriters.
I've been waiting for this show to go up for a while. Being there was a captivating experience.
Delicate, intrinsic and consonant... Thanks Andy + all band, cheers from Brasil!
Lembro da minha ex ;(
I’ll keep this short and sweet...If Andy is doing a show in your town buy a ticket
You won’t be disappointed 💯🔥
I'm dying to see him live again, he was in Tennessee and I drove a BIT to see him...and of course COVID messes up a concert he was going to do where I live, LITERALLY twenty minutes away =| Can't wait!!
Tony Almonte I’ll wear a mask no problem to hear Andy live.....Again last concert I saw was before COVID and fam it was 🔥 he did the whole catalogue 🤩
i listen to this video every night to go to sleep it’s so calming
Glad I was there. Great night
thanks to this video, whenever I sing along to Quite Like You I cannot stop myself from singing this alternate melody at 8:58. gift/curse
AHHHHHH yes. I've been waiting since the day after I went to this show for any video of it. I felt everyone just may have been floating above their seats this night. What a captive audience we were. All love!
I fukking love this. I have never heard of Andy before but will definitely be keeping an-ear-on him.
I get lost in this beauty 💜✨
Why is this not listed anymore?
loving his guitar tone so much
god his music is so good
Holy shit, this version of My Dear Helen fuckin broke me
This dude has my favorite right hand out of any acoustic player i've ever heard
Absolutely amazing show!!!✨🎼💙 “My dear Helen”…breathtaking!!!
Me encanta Andy Shauf, su música es tan relajante.🤗
Whose idea was it to chop the interview sections in the middle of songs?
phenomenal
Dat bass sound 🔥🔥🔥
Any idea how they get that sound so bouncy and warm?
I bought a Hofner based on the sound in this video alone. Especially love the muted picking.
Seriously gonna edit it to put part of his interview over the best most incredible part of Early to the Party?!?!?!?!?!? WTF!!!!!!
the interview segments all take me out of the song, and despite being curious about what he's saying, its always a bummer.
Please make that!
That’s the best part.....He’s telling his story!
They could have put the interview over any other part of the show but that one. Clueless.
all the way from Fremantle Australia Andy we love your music.
I love the song Wendel Walker. Which was the first song I ever heard by Andy. Then I was hooked.
This is too fucking good. I'm continuously amazed by Andy's humility. The Neil Young of this era. Please come to Austin!
Saw this live. Incredible he’s currently on tour with the new album and just saw him again in Calgary. If your able to I’d really recommend seeing him live
Gorgeous documentation. Huge thank you to everyone on and off stage making this possible.
Getting some serious Elliott Smith vibes on 'You're Out Wasting' Dig it.
it's mainly the guitar tuning (ok, not only) - anyway
Agreed Jaimie. I heard both Elliot Smith and the singer for PHOENIX blend.
Wow, Early To The Party is more than amazing, can't find words to describe it
Congratulations Andy! You're a quite musician. It sounds like we share the same taste for music (NY).
Amazing live and performance ! Arrangement is beautiful so gentle and comforting ! Everything matches perfectly ! And Andy’s voice... so fragile and easy going at the same time ! 🙏
Beautiful. Such a fantastic songwriter.
man this incredible
Incredible performance. I am in awe at his talent
So much love from Kentucky Andy
He's touring in Germany right now!
man the end of the magician had me straight up hypnotized.
Amazing show
This sounds wonderfully warm to the ears 😍
I was there!!!!
Fun fact: Olivier, the drummer in this video, is the same drummer in the Timber Timbre Live at Massey Hall performance. I guess andy was a big fan of that band and hijacked their drummer ;)
that's what I was thinking
Great show...love from liverpool xx
Really amazing recording, sounds great. Just wish they hadn't played the interview over instrumental sections.
holy shit that shot at 13:19 is amazing!
This is the best fucking video on TH-cam.
simply beautiful!
Amazing video, fantastic artists, thank you Andy for the beautiful music you make
that's so cool mate ! ♥
Seriously why does this only have 7k views i don't get it
Awesome ! Looking forward to the DVD.
Stephen Vessenmeyer what's the word on the DVD? Release date? Pretty stoked to finally see this up. Were you there also?
I wish I could've made it. I have no idea on the DVD but I would hope there will be one. Gonna try to make the Brooklyn show this year.
So many thumbs up!
Lo mas hermoso que he visto en este 2019. Suena Perfecto!
Absolutely incredible.
"To you" ???
This is magic!
Wow! Is that oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet, three strings? Miles used bass clarinet to great effect in Bitches Brew. This is gorgeous in Massey Hall. Where Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker changed the world.
Qué buen mezcla!!!!!
Brilliant.
What a great talent!
Man, I can't wait for him to come to Germany one day.
I really love the bass on Early to the Party
right!? Except they end up editing it to put his interview over the best part of the song? that's the best time to hear that bass line break through. Broke my heart. haha.
So damn good
Who has the effects pedal at the end of the Magician? Wurlitzer or Bass? I need. To know.
Awesome work here can you just upload the "Dear Helen" alone track on your channel to share just that one! such a masterpiece track!!! thanks
Awesome! Release Father John Misty!
CRUSH!
Why would you edit his interview over the best part of 'The Party'? You killed the magic of the music. Reupload
I WANT TO MARRY THIS MAN.
wish i was there.
This is life.
drums sound amazing... any know what snare drum the drummers using?
that drummer is tight
Can we get a version of this where Andy doesn't literally talk in the middle of a song? Like come on, the build up in Early to the Party is basically ruined.
Does anyone know on what kind of drums the drummer's playing?
cc
Why was the interview placed over the songs instead of in between them? It really detracts from an otherwise great performance.
Rhythm sections tight!
If Julien Baker and Andy Shauf had a kid it would look exactly like Julien Baker and Andy Shauf because they look like the same person
holy shit yes hahaha
Also, he looks/seems like he would switch hardflip a fucking 10 stair. Js.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
To you :(
