I tought mine was not working. I had to search a long time to find out that these must be grounded. Paint and dust was keeping it from touching some metal.

    Hi there,
these solenoid have the unfortunate habit of wearing off quickly (even the factory ones).
I'm wondering why they put it there in the first place. Will it break something if I just plug the starter motor direct to the battery passing trough the starter switch ?

Hey,anybody know what the little electrical terminals are inside the throttle control assy on a 09 Polaris Sportsman 400 HO? I took cover off to loosen cable so it would be easier to hook cable back up on the carburetor end ! When I took screw out of the top of throttle thumb switch the asst came apart and a tiny little spring flew out ! The top plastic plate has one grey wire with a contact and lower plastic plate has another grey wire with a contact on it! Have no idea what it is for . I think the spring held the contacts apart but I don't know what the wires control ! I don't have a shop manual and Polaris dealers not much help when I ask them! Nice video on the solenoid replacement . A 3 terminal solenoid is self grounded thru contacting the chassis . 4 terminal is just a ground terminal . You can mount 4 post solenoid on any surface ,doesn't have to be metal grounded mount. The ground post terminal ,4 th terminal handles that !

Hi I am rebuilding a 2005 Polaris sportsman 500 and I have a good battery and just put the same solenoid in and im still getting a click, could it be the starter? any tips

      >Make sure battery connections are making good connection
      >Make sure solenoid connections are good
      >Make sure starter connections are good
      >Battery fully charged
      >Try quickly jumping the solenoid connections with a screwdriver - if starter turns bad solenoid
      >Remove starter and bench test hooking up another battery - no turn, bad starter

Yes I tried all that, but it seems my white and red and black wires aren’t getting any power even when I put them to the battery, what could be the issue? (This is my first time rebuilding a four wheeler so sorry if my questions are stupid)

Seems like that part is a kludge! Removing nuts and no coil ground stud. You relying on a good metal frame bond now.
I have drilled out rivets and fixed solenoids. If they just click, usually the copper washer and bolts need cleaning up on the inside as they are not passing the high currents to the starter.

How do you unscrew the nut off the solenoid mount? It just spins and there’s no head on the screw. Just looks like a river.

Lesson learned, don't buy a Ricks replacement because it is not a correct replacement.

Sorry for the delayed reply. I don't remember that being an issue. If it is a rivet drill it out.
