    I had so much trouble with those jam nuts that I removed them. In their place I added springs with good tension. It is so much easier to adjust each mirror. At least that is the way I modded the adjustment screws.

    Use projection method. Put strong light source at the focus of the laser head (strong LED). Cover LED so that it does not shine all around. Use white paper and see where the light is projected. Now it is easier to align spot onto mirrors. The most difficult task is guessing burning mark if you use standard burning tape method. The head on K40 laser has no any adjustment...

    Hi John, I have watched this video and the other 3, very good. I wonder if you can tell me why I have 2 dots with just one press of the 'fire' button? I can get the next 2 with a further 'press' on top of the first pair so your alignment techniques have worked fine. It is not a mirror glitch because they appear before the first mirror, so straight from the tube. I can't be sure if it has always done this as a longish press produces one scorch mark or a hole, but now after much operation, I have mastered a very brief pulse, which I now see produces two dots?

      The mirror coatings inside the laser tube have been damaged by running the laser at high power. The tube may still be good for engraving, but it will not cut. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

      @@johncabrer2328 Thanks John for your reply and diagnosis. You will be correct because the person I borrowed the machine from to cut 5mm acrylic, said to use full power. I suppose he must do this with his other £7000 machine and the Chinese effort is just not up to this use.

      @@mattmcgahan a K40 should never be run beyond 20% power. If the tube is in good condition, this will be enough to cut 3mm birch ply and acrylic. The K40 is not designed for cutting, but for engraving rubber stamps. That is their primary use in China. The fact that they can cut is a fortunate happenstance.

    My beam moves up the closer it gets to mirror 1, I’ve shimmed mirror 2 to make it taller and it still suffers from this, how do the hell do I get the beam to not rise.

    My point where the beam hits the same place is at the very top of my mirror 2. Does this mean that I need to adjust my to be and make it lower?

    • @johncabrer2328
      @johncabrer2328  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Two possibilities. If the beam is centered on #1, the four bolts holding down the gantry need to be loosened, and shims put under the gantry.
      If the beam on mirror #1 is also high, it can mean the tube level needs to be adjusted. Either one or both mounting clamps are loose, or adjusted too high. It depends on which type of clamps you have. Some are not height adjustable.
