Your shoulder practices have helped me so much! Had sound therapy and an adjustment at Chiro and he commented I was doing so much better and i explained that I was using your practices each morning, too. Thank you Taro. ( I strained my shoulder by making that awkward move of reaching behind me and lifting) I just received the movement book you suggested, too. THANKS again~
I had a lot of nerve pains and I am cured by your video's, but 1 was still there more or less, with this video, it is gone after one movement and felt the relieve. How is it possible that you seem to know what I need. You must have got the best parents possible. So also honor to them🙏
This is an amazing exercise!!! I had lower back pain. All of sudden my shoulder injured then became frozen shoulder. This exercise really helps me with both my back and shoulder! Thank you Taro!
Thank you so much for these videos! I have been dealing with shoulder, neck and upper back tightness for a couple of weeks with minimal relief. I came across your videos and did this one and a few other videos. I was sore but could already start to feel relief within an hour. The next day, I woke up with minimal pain. Now, 3 days later, I have virtually no pain! I'm going to have to watch more videos and probably buy your book. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I'm a subscriber now 😃
1/1/2024 I have been working through a rotator cuff injury with various strengthening exercises. My mobility has been increasing over the past few months. This lesson is amazing! At the beginning I couldn't raise my arm very much above shoulder height and moving in a circle was very difficult. At the end I could easily raise my arm overhead 180 degrees and in a full circle. Thank you!!
This is amazing when done with total focus. The first time I did it a few weeks ago I did not have the same results because I did not spend the time needed to have complete success. This may finally be the key to a pain free shoulder for life.
I enjoyed it.At first my whole arm is not syncronized in its movement and feels a bit awkward but after several repetitions the movement became smoother and relaxed.Love it bro not much effort but effective. After the exersise when i move my arms without the glass the motion is so smooth. Thanks Taro God bless you
I’m very happy with your channel. All the exercises paid off. You can do them easily living on the floor with kids and grandchildren. Rehab is so much fun done this way.
LOVE THIS! Great idea with the glass. I knew a dancer once that did a dance with candles in her hands with spirals like this so this video reminded me of her. And btw, my right side felt so different in a great way. I'm gonna be playin' with this with water in the cup. :)
glad you enjoy this! If you want to be fancier, you can do this with two glasses, one in each hand, and standing, and make it more dynamic like dancing:)
Good stuff! I'm 66 and had surgery about 4.5 months ago for a clavicle broken in a couple of places (plate and pins to get it all back together). I was wearing a sling 24/7 for the first 9 weeks to immobilize it, and since then have been working (with a physio professional) on mobility and strength exercises. So far so good. But even though strength and mobility are coming back, it feels "clunky" and many motions, even if I can do them, are uncomfortable. This little exercise is great because I'm focusing on "fluidity of movement" and a complex range of motions vs my other exercises that seem to emphasize movement as far as I can go in various discrete directions. I'll keep up with my existing routine - it has been helping. But I plan to add this to try to gain back fluidity vs constantly straining to maximize mobility in only one direction at a time (which is a pretty artificial movement when it comes to day-to-day utility) .
🍀 smoother! Funnily enough I have been doing this exercise a few days ago while going through the 10 days shoulder mobility and it wasn't that simple, i guess i needed a longer video like this one to get the gist 😂🎉
Wow! So different than traditional exercises that expect you to isolate muscles to stretch and strengthen, but the joints and body as a system is never addressed.
My personal experience is that it's much easier and simpler to train movement patterns to improve functions, which will address needed flexibility and strength, than to focus on individual muscles.
Taro, What you are sharing is so very generous of you and very helpful! I am using many of your videos to correct many many years of poor posture habits. Thank you very much. どうもありがとうございます!
Since following your videos my shoulder has been improving! I was so surprised by how smoothly my shoulder was moving when I did the first up and down awareness exercise. It would have felt and sounded like a grinder 3 weeks ago, but I only had light tingling in my fingers. The glass exercise is fun. I might practice with a real glass half full of water to increase the challenge! Thank you again!
I was thinking the same thing. I've been using the teacup movement for a shoulder tear injury lately and it helps greatly with pain and mobility. This variation seems a little more gentle and focused on awareness, I think it would be a good precursor to the teacup movement.
So simple yet so effective! The difference is instantly recognizable 😁 I highly recommend anyone who sees this comment to check out Taro's other videos as well, they are all amazing!
All of your videos are great. I personally want to see Shorts length versions. Just do the move and say what part it targets and reference the full video. Do you think that would be a good way to convey the information clearly in 45-60 seconds? That would also, of course, be good for other platforms as well. shoot them vertical :]
Thank you. As I raise the glass towards the ceilings i notice my opposite shoulder turns towards that arm (chest turning towards the arm that is raised up holding the cup at the end of the spiral up).
just found this gem. not doing it anymore though xD. absolutely nothing wrong with the technique, it worked perfectly. just happened to show me how much motion i gained from the, what I refer to as " super flexion" injury I had a few years back. thing flips over and then over again. very fun. also scary. thank you nonetheless. in all seriousness will probably work on it so it gains control.
Wow, I really noticed a difference in a very sore shoulder after doing this with you. Thank You, I will keep doing it and try some of your other techniques as well. :-)
Hallo Taro-san, thanks for the helpful videos. Can you do a video on how I can improve/strengthen/relax relevant muscles so I can increase my lungs-volume? I want to blow conch shells, and I need lots of air! Thank you in advance!
hello sir, I have dislocated my right shoulder 2 years ago, it replaced itself back but didn't go back to its position all the way, so it kinda sores all the time, do you have some exercises or stretching I could do alone please, THANK YOU SIR, MUCH LOVE XOXOX
Yes. But you will have to move within your comfortable range. A key is to move slowly and oay attention to ease and comfort of movement and improve coordination between shoulder and torso.
I really enjoy your videos Taro. I found the quality of movement in my shoulders improved greatly after the exercise. I think this exercise would be good before I play golf. What do you think?
you will probably have to make some adjustments, but if you can focus on improving coordination through a part of range, then yes I believe this can help for impingement. This is not about stretching. This is about coordinating arm, shoulder, and torso.
These three exercises involving the tissue paper, the book and now the glass work because they have you an object to focus on instead of your discomfort. If there had been no objects involved it'd be very different, even if same movements. This is the fun factor.
WOW that was very painful , I couldn't turn out very far because the pain was too much. Impingement is recent and the pain is real! The movement was easy for me, just had to stop when pain was too much! Ok tried again with arm going straight up, rather than up and out, it was much better! 😁 Other exercises, not so much!
the point is how far you move, but to recognize patterns of movement and how elbow going up direction facilitates shoulder going up and forward, which results in increased tension and effort, but common pattern people carry.
It was interesting that when I tried to raise my right arm with the rotator injury it was painful, but when I held the glass I was able to do the exercise without pain.
I would pay close attention to coordination between your arm and your head and torso. Its quite possible that you are moving your arm much more than your ribs and spine.
Taro, you're an ANGEL... thank you! 🥰
thank you:)
This is a legit exercise
My shoulder felt much better after doing this a few days in a row
I am very convinced you are a wizard. All the methods i've tried and all i needed was a cup...

I loved this challenge! Thank you for keeping your episodes short, focused and easy to do.
Glad you enjoyed this video!
This is an amazing exercise!!! I had lower back pain. All of sudden my shoulder injured then became frozen shoulder. This exercise really helps me with both my back and shoulder! Thank you Taro!
Thank you Taro, did this for a few minutes and can feel the improvement, I know this will help and will continue this exercise.

Definetly feeling my ribcage helping the movement afterwards and much smoother than before. Thank you
Fun and informative. Makes you feel proud to perform the exercise.
Thank you. I am a massage therapist. I do about 20 to 25 massages a day, this movement has helped me greatly. Namaste
Not a day.. lol a week.

Brilliant...felt an improvement almost straight away..thankyou!
Very interesting how quickly my shoulder relaxed. Only a few rotations and shoulder relaxed, got a nice pop out of it also. Feels so much better💖
It really was a fun exercise, in the end it felt like dancing. And I could move my arm with less restriction, so amazing what awareness brings us!!
You get to have fun and learn and improve. Not a bad deal, isnt it?
Man, you've blown my mind twice now in one evening, after gardening my garden in the sunset
This was so helpful, in addition to being fun AND beautiful. I am really enjoying your videos and performing the exercises.
Thank you.
Thank you!!
woo!! I felt the change, the movement became smoother. Thank you so much!
awesome! thanks for reporting!

Glad to hear! Exercise should not feel like a torture. It should be fun!

So happy I found your channel. Thank you so much.
This was excellent. My shoulder and elbows thank you already
glad to hear! hope you had fun too!
Soo helpful.... thanks so much!
Stiff tight muscles on upper shoulder to side of neck released somewhat and I'm looser. Thank you!

Hoe about hot tea? just kidding:)
Excellent guidance. All one needs now is sufficient self-discipline, to follow the path.
agree!
Wonderful, thank you🥰
It looks like tea cup exercices from Qigong. These movements are incredible for the shoulders !

Thank you! It feels good to get more connected, doesnt it?
Thanks Taro ! 🙏 This helped loosen my stiff left shoulder joint, and I can breathe easier too. Movement seems to open up the rib cage.

Can't say it's pain free, but it is easy to follow along! Nice vid.
Thanks!
O M Goodness! Thank you! Thank you so very much.

Wow, I really noticed a difference in a very sore shoulder after doing this with you. Thank You, I will keep doing it and try some of your other techniques as well. :-)
and dont forget to have fun with your movement practice!
Hallo Taro-san,
thanks for the helpful videos.

Super helpful exercise! I was wondering if there is anything like this for the hips and lower body coordination that has a spiral flow to it?
yes absolutely! I can do a few videos in the future
@@TaroIwamoto looking forward to it! Thanks for the reply!
Yes, Please do that. Thanks for your great videos.
Hi Dr. Iwamoto, very helpful your video. Could you make a video to get mobilily on the cervical vertebrae and minimize the pain. Than you!
Have you watched my shoulder and neck playlist yet? if not, I would highly recommend you check it.
Didn't expect that it would be harder to do will sitting compared to doing it while standing.
yes because legs are more constrained
I need surgery on my right shoulder that I been putting it off for six years 😢 my life is miserable 😭 I will try this thanks 🙏
Does this work for frozen shoulder?
Yes. But you will have to move within your comfortable range. A key is to move slowly and oay attention to ease and comfort of movement and improve coordination between shoulder and torso.
Thank you so much for this exercise (and all of your other videos;). Can I do this exercise every day or every two days? It hurts a bit sometimes.
Yes you can!
I really enjoy your videos Taro. I found the quality of movement in my shoulders improved greatly after the exercise. I think this exercise would be good before I play golf. What do you think?
yes for sure!
*what can i do to make it easier and more efficient (movement)*
to make it easier and more efficient, need to allow more parts to participate in movement
@@TaroIwamoto Perfect. Thank you :)
just sent you a message 🙏
Will this help for horrible impingement that’s can barely hold glass and move just few inches?
you will probably have to make some adjustments, but if you can focus on improving coordination through a part of range, then yes I believe this can help for impingement. This is not about stretching. This is about coordinating arm, shoulder, and torso.

What does it mean when your shoulder pops during this exercise?
could mean instability, but may be not. does it pop consistently? any pain/discomfort with it?
I’m in more pain than before I started !

absolutely!
It was interesting that when I tried to raise my right arm with the rotator injury it was painful, but when I held the glass I was able to do the exercise without pain.
That must be the magic glass:)
@@TaroIwamoto 😀
Oh my God, this released a three-month neck tension!
👍👍👍👍👍👍
It looks like the movement of the arms in a Filipino dance called Pandanggo sa Ilaw
I learned something new today!
Use a plastic tumbler, not a glass. . Once you believe you've mastered this movement, then fill the tumbler half-way with water. ;-D
Once I rotate, my elbow pinched
I would pay close attention to coordination between your arm and your head and torso. Its quite possible that you are moving your arm much more than your ribs and spine.
i like ur vids! simple and easier to understand, i hope i can learn more about the Feldenkrais method so i can use it to help my fam and friends too
this is a filipino candle dance. lol
