Still a cool little stop though. Back in the 80s when my dad would take me on vacations we would stay and these random really old roadside motels. Even as a kid I absolutely loved these places. Back then the rooms were all still decorated from the 60s and 70s. Old furniture, old lights and especially the old wallpaper, they were excellent!!
In the 50s cars started becoming affordable and available to every family. As everybody owned a car the thing to do was to take road trips. Couple's would drive to a gas station for an ice cream or a drive in diner for dinner and families would drive for a weekend away at a highway motel. This was very popular for two or three decades or so. Times have changed and no amount of fixing up can save the business. The family road trip to a motel is a thing of the past. Now people go camping or rving or they want an all inclusive water park hotel. Gas is expensive and people don't want to drive as far. Here in Ontario, there are many many abandoned roadside motels. They were the place to go at one time, but sadly it is not popular anymore. No amount of fixing up the place can save it.
Typical Motor-Court type for an overnight stay for travelers headed to the beaches. Stop, check-in, let kids swim, bathe and grab dinner at a local restaurant before bed and an early departure for the coast. Times have changed.
There's a whole newer generation for whom it's a novelty though. I like staying in motels, and I'm late 20s. Otherwise I'll feel like I missed out on something.

My guess is that they were renting the rooms out as apartments, month to month short term, there at the last. The back side of the sign marquee says “Jackrabbit Flats.” More than likely, the owner ran out of money to put a new roof on it, and the apartment renters gradually moved out as the roof leaks and mold became too hazardous to continue living there. Then with no one left to pay rent, it became abandoned and decayed. It’s amazing how it doesn’t take long, just a few years, for a place to go down hill like this. Enjoyed the explore . That would have been a nice pool. The child 's art work on the wall of the last room made me feel it was home to a caring ,loving family ....no matter their circumstances. We have a lot of old deserted motels down here. After interstate I-95 was built and by-passed highways US 1 and 301 , tourist traffic from Maryland thru Fla. along the old route dried up ...Hundreds of motels, restaurants and tourist attractions went out of business. .....Back in the '70's a local one rented rooms as storage units ...seemed like a good idea. ( Someone broke into our "unit" and stole or broke a lot of our stuff : ( .... Thank you for another interesting video Jay ....nice to meet you Adam : )
The Penn Aire Motel was one of those that struggled to survive. A fixture on the main drag of ****, it tried to keep up until at least 2007, but by 2001 it too had closed its doors for the last time.
For some reason that motel has a Facebook page lol. One of the pictures shows a section of rooms where the trailer is now but the roof was gone in that picture. They also have pictures of what it looked like in the 70's.
If you think someone might be in there. Maybe knock first. Motel is a good place for squatters...trash one room and move on to the next. Are you afraid of running into a squatter or trouble with the police?
JPVideos I meant the one where you thought there were people and then opened the door or maybe I misunderstood. I was given keys by landlord to look at a rental house once and when I unlocked the door and went inside I surprised some squatters. I wasn’t expecting them and they sure weren’t expecting me
when i first saw the sign: PENN-AIRE, reminded me immediately of Pennsylvania (penn) and then i noticed you are stationed in Pa. this is my birth state, and i have a special place in my heart for Mr Penn and the origins of that colony and later statehood...alot of history there, for sure,,, so thanks for presenting it -- a good find -- too bad it went to ruin
Thanks JP for anthor great video with Adam ( I just Subbed to his channel!) You doing this documents for future if it ever gets torn down.(and I know you know this!) Stay safe in all you do
I’ve driven past that place for MANY years. I remember when it was a functioning motel. That town had dozens of these motels at one time. Sadly, a fair number of them have closed. I’ve never stayed at that place so it was good to finally see a little more of the place I’ve been driving past for so long.
Sooner or later the trespassers will have to leave. Especially when the owner(s) decide to drop by to show the place to a buyer. They can get this individual arrested.

Thank you, Barbara. Very nice to meet you too.
The Penn Aire Motel was one of those that struggled to survive. A fixture on the main drag of ****, it tried to keep up until at least 2007, but by 2001 it too had closed its doors for the last time.
Last review was 2007
For some reason that motel has a Facebook page lol. One of the pictures shows a section of rooms where the trailer is now but the roof was gone in that picture. They also have pictures of what it looked like in the 70's.
Awesome, feel free to share the link.
Shame that place is in such poor shape
If someone had money to fix the place up and use it as apartments
Great video, and as always it’s well narrated and of epic quality. I look forward to watch your videos every time I get the chance.
Thank you
Adam looks like Michael Moore.
If you think someone might be in there. Maybe knock first. Motel is a good place for squatters...trash one room and move on to the next. Are you afraid of running into a squatter or trouble with the police?
Whats the point in bothering them? I wouldnt want random people knocking on my door.
JPVideos I meant the one where you thought there were people and then opened the door or maybe I misunderstood. I was given keys by landlord to look at a rental house once and when I unlocked the door and went inside I surprised some squatters. I wasn’t expecting them and they sure weren’t expecting me
Love your videos, you are 100% original no pakes thinks like others
Awesome as always Jay keep it up great finds always
You got it!

That motel don’t look to bad on the outside to bad it ant still open looks like it’s in a good location
Was probably nice back in the day
What,no Christmas decorations?!? Then it’s not abandoned 🤣
Maybe i didn't look hard enough. But toys and kids items do still count.
Very interesting . People lived there for a while even after it closed .life is not easy . Thanks
Looks like a few ppl are still living there.
when i first saw the sign: PENN-AIRE, reminded me immediately of Pennsylvania (penn) and then i noticed you are stationed in Pa. this is my birth state, and i have a special place in my heart for Mr Penn and the origins of that colony and later statehood...alot of history there, for sure,,, so thanks for presenting it -- a good find -- too bad it went to ruin
Thanks
Love the video👍💜👍
🙂
Thanks JP for anthor great video with Adam ( I just Subbed to his channel!) You doing this documents for future if it ever gets torn down.(and I know you know this!) Stay safe in all you do
Thanks misty
I’ve driven past that place for MANY years. I remember when it was a functioning motel. That town had dozens of these motels at one time. Sadly, a fair number of them have closed. I’ve never stayed at that place so it was good to finally see a little more of the place I’ve been driving past for so long.
Thanks for checking it out
What a waste , it could have been turned into affordable housing for people. Fun explore though !
Your videos are amazing and I always enjoy your finds of abandoned places.. Thank you for sharing your video, thoughts on the place and photos JP😊
Thanks so much 🙂
Sooner or later the trespassers will have to leave. Especially when the owner(s) decide to drop by to show the place to a buyer. They can get this individual arrested.
Looks like a upgraded Motel 6! 😂 Gave thumbs up as always
Motel 6 is no upgrade
JPVideos True that! Lol
