Yeah, I think you're right... I've seen a lot more people on shorter travel bikes even if they're not actually riding xc rigs... I think people are realizing it's not as fun to ride green/blue trails on 150mm travel bikes lol
I love your preference for the usual mechanical shifting amidst aggressive marketing from various quarters pushing us to embrace the Transmission that I am feeling now slightly nauseous.
The Vittoria combo feels faster for sure. Also lighter weight on the scale. They do get pinged around or deflect off the rocks or bits of terrain more than the recon but I think in time I’ll learn to trust them. I’m excited to try them! Also, I’ve only had three rides on them so far so time will tell
It's interesting to observe the revisit of lightweiught mountain bikes again after the industry 'overbike' of the last 10 years. They do say history repeats... Im personally glad to see lightweight xc fs bikes being revived again.
I’m new to mtb (finally saw the light and converted from trail running) and I’ve been exploring those exact trails in Draper. Fun to see someone with more experience ride them a lot faster!

That white with the blue and black accents is so cool. Wish this scheme was on a 120 or 140. Great pair of videos between the first impression of the ASR and this build-up run down.
I have Barzo F & R.. it's been a great tire for me.. I've done long XC events, trail rides.. been solid! Great looking bike.. I went with an Epic Evo this year.. If I knew this was coming I may have held off, but maybe soon.. Bikes are fun!!
Right on! I’m planning on riding the new epic eight tomorrow morning. Excited to ride these back-to-back! I wasn’t even sure I’d be able to get a chance to ride the new epic eight. It just kind of came together today.
Super cool build!!!! Hate to say it, Barzo in the wet will come undone, especially on roots. Tried them on my Epic Evo, after one ride in the wet, removed the Barzos F&R. Love your build and videos!! Still trust Specialized ground control tires. My EE is 25lbs.
That is crazy light. I just bought a 2023 Rocky Mountain instinct C30 29" based a lot on your previous reviews and the Ride9 system. I get it on Tuesday. Stoked. This Yeti is too much race for me but impressive. $2900 shipped. Now is the time to buy, not upgrade.
Thanks for the review! I have a 2021 epic evo that i got down to 22.9lbs with pedals and cage - was great for uphill koms... It's at 24lbs with chunky tires now. Definitely considering this bike you just reviewed... I've got more opportunity for improvement going downhill, and this could help! Thanks for the info

Difficult to put into words but as you know, the presence of the cable and your thumb initiating the shift at just the right time that you choose to shift... it's not everything, but it's something and for as long as I still get to choose, I'll be sticking with mechanical drivetrains! Glad you like the pack!
@@mtbyumyum 💯 agree with you. Until they come up with some type of force feedback I’ll always prefer mechanical drivetrains (at least on MTB). On drop bar gravel bikes, might be a different story.

Yeah, depending on when you were mountain biking previously a lot has changed. The added weight of the dropper post and 29 inch wheels and tires have really made these bikes go up in weight. Including the fact that they need more burly tires now with the crazy terrain people are riding on these bikes.

3 rides in and still happy with it! I do notice now after riding the recon/recon race combo on the Exie that these Vittoria's get pushed around just a bit more... deflect or ping off the terrain (rocks) a bit more than the Recons
That’s crazy light! I get going with Shimano over sram transmission on a bike like this. I have transmission on my longer travel bike and I like it. Game changer for technical climbing shifts under full power no problem every time. Just keep hammering and shift whenever you want.
These vids have been a huge guide for my bike purchases! Thanks! So I just caught a Epic Evo on a big sale. The tires on it are horrible. Would you recommend the Barzos or Rekon setup? Will use your links when purchasing to help out! Thanks! - Clark
Just depends on what your purpose of riding is. If you’re not racing, but still want a fast rolling and confidence inspiring cross country tire. It’s hard to pass up the recon race. I would probably take that over the Vittoria combo that I have on this lightweight ASR, just because they hold a line slightly better, and have more volume. That said, after three rides I’m pretty happy with the Vittoria combo! In short, if you’re not racing, I’d go with the Maxis recon race 🤙 and even if you are racing, that was the tire I used on my last race and finished 7th💪😆
@@mtbyumyum Noted! I've got those on my Ripley (also per your reco), and couldn't agree enough! I'll stick to what we love! Thanks for the super fast reply too!
Sick! Makes me laugh though that we all weigh bikes without the pedals...I mean, it would weigh even less if more parts were removed as well...maybe remove the grips for an even lighter stated weight?? LOL.
I've seen enough comment like this and said nothing but I'll inform you... we don't weigh bikes without pedal or bottle cages, computers or other mounts in an effort to get the weight lower... bikes are weighed in this manner because those items are subjective. My pedals might weigh 11 oz, others maybe 9 oz and someone else maybe a pound... it creates unmeasurable nuance in the accounting of the weight... hope this makes sense? Also, I know people who weigh bikes without sealant in the tires... for that I would agree with your sentiment, that is ridiculous... all tubeless tires need 2 oz of sealant.
You've already modded the stock bike anyhow. Plus all you need to do is put your own pedals on every time. The comparison remains the same and then you actually have a useful figure rather than an irrelevancy.
They’re fast and light. I ended up taking them off and putting them on my daughters race bike. I prefer the recon recon race combo, but I’m not racing at a high-level either.
Question - you mention the Epic Evo 7 was less confident than this - how much of that 'lack of confidence" is due to the up Rockshox 3P suspension? Still an awesome review!
With so many different variables, it difficult to know for sure. The asr for sure has more support in the shock/suspension and just feels a bit for damp and controlled… less ridged than the evo7

I have a set from Extralite that are slightly lighter than that at 1120g stock. 28mm inner width and it makes the bike feel like you’re on an ebike. I was just trying to be funny... joking that he "broke the mold" when he made my wheelset.... He would be happy to make you a wheelset.... I think most of these wheelsets come in closer to 1,250 grams tho... mine are special haha ;)
Does the bike need the grip twist/remote lock out? I’m thinking of doing fox shock, but no 3-pos remote switch available. So, can you ride in open mode always or just manually switch between open/pedal/lock.
Email Allied and tell them to send me a size medium bike. A number of people have already emailed them. I think if more people reach out they’ll actually send me a bike to demo😆✌️
Ok, being that I HATE how Yetis ride. How is it compared to the Pivot Mark 4 SL and Ibis Exie bikes you have in terms of having to front load the wheels to where its a lot of fricken work to keep it from washing out, while the Pivot & Ibis bikes are more neutral riding position. Also, the Yeti SB100 & 115 had that "hidden" flexing problem, does this have it? I say "hidden" because none of the presenters hyping those as the greatest things slice bread told us about the rear triangle flexing like crazy & was a problem? I'm a Pivot & Santa Cruz guy, and to a certain point Ibis so trying to decide which way to go with an XC but capable bike.
I'd say if you're already not a "Yeti" fan, go with the Ibis Exie or Pivot M4 SL. You won't be disappointed! That said, this is nothing like the current Yeti lineup of bikes... this is a single pivot bike... it is without the Switch Infinity link you'll see on all other current Yeti's including the SB100 and 115 you mentioned.
@@samd6405many of the parts were replaced with inferior. I know it is sponsor obligations but still makes knowledgeable persons sad :( The bike has potentials
So you got rid of the all the wireless magic…..Are you serious? I’ve got 3000 + miles on my eBike and the wireless stuff is flawless like having brand new cables all the time…the wireless dropper works like it reads your mind….but keep on riding history instead of the future…
Haha yeah, I figured a lot of people would probably not like that decision. In any case, I have XO transmission on my e-bike as well. On a light bike like this, I prefer the cable.
Element>epic>asr in terms of progressiv geometry. Like: element is a trail bike, epic a DC, asr a XC bike, and of course depending on the build you can make any of them more trail or more xc oriented. Am I right, mtb yumyum? ;-)
@@mtbyumyum I like the weigh just not the geometry. How's downcountry slower than xc if the eight the same really. You just have a funner more versatile bike. Great if your a non racer anyhow.
I'm unsure about the downcountry thing... but the Element has a very long wheelbase and just rides and feels like a trail bike... the ASR feels and rides like a xc bike, regardless of geometry. For example, the Cannondale Scalpel SE has very xc geometry but it just rides more like a short travel trail bike... not as nervous or twitchy as an xc bike... like the ASR for example.

A light bike, and an even lighter bank account.
ug... tell me about it. If you watched the video, I spoke to that topic...
Have you ridden the new supercal?
Nope, but I would like to
This ASR lightweight vs the Mach 4SL.... choose .🙂
M4
I would get an SB 120
9.56kg, to the rest of the world
🙌thx!
Is that a v2 or a v3 one up dropper?
V3
This is considered an Easter video now!
Don’t get me preaching about Jesus buddy! We could be here for hours😆
😆. Hey I’m all for it! Just giggled a bit at the reference. Love it.
chop off that extra steer tube for additional weight savings
I’ll get that sorted out after a few more rides just to make sure I’ve got my bars where I want them.🤙
Rims?
Salt cycles, 28mm id
Vs pivot Mach 429?!
Two completely different categories of bikes. This Yeti is cross-country bike. The t429 is a short travel, trail bike.
@@mtbyumyum I meant, Mach 4,
Ok, being that I HATE how Yetis ride.
Nice bike. But it was measurably better in many regards :(
Please explain?
@@samd6405many of the parts were replaced with inferior. I know it is sponsor obligations but still makes knowledgeable persons sad :( The bike has potentials
@@roilevnot a very good explanation. Full XTR build? Vitoria tires?? ‘Measurably’ better? Better how?
@@samd6405 I don't want to go into fanboyism. But the bike can be made lighter, stronger or faster. With some of the replaced parts.
@@roilevI have no idea what you are trying to say? Fanboism?? What does that have to do with ‘inferior’ parts? You must be trolling now…
It never makes sense to me when I hear people weighing bikes without pedals. SMH
On a light bike like this, I prefer the cable.
no pedals
'Promo SM' 😪
too bad it doesnt have an all mountain geometry like an element.
Why too bad? It's a completely different animal... this is an xc race bike. The Element is much more a short travel trail bike...
Wht im hoping mountain bikes will get to in the next few years is a 20lb 6inch travel trail bike. It's gonna happen and it's gonna be sweet
