Just sold my 22 year old HRX217 that I bought new and beat the living crap out of it. Every other week for 15 years I mowed the empty lot in our custom subdivision that nobody built on. I never turned off the fuel valve and every single time one pull. I thought what the heck I will treat myself to a new one right when Covid hit. The new one felt like a step up with blade stop and automatic choke. Been battling a terminal illness for almost 13 years so my wife wanted to relieve some burdens and hired a gardener. I gave the old mower to the gardener yesterday. Today I spent 4 hours getting the new one I only used once running. Thanks for your video even though it didn’t help my issues. God Bless 🙏🏻❤️
I was affected by recall, returned mine for store credit. I called around to some local power equipment shops and they had some that were repaired and ready to be sold. I picked one up and I can definitely say the machine is much easier to start than before. Glad I ended up with Honda mower, cut on my lawn looks great and mulching capabilities are awesome, feeding nutrients back into the lawn. Thanks Honda for standing behind your product.
Hey Average Joe Thanks for the video update. I had this problem with my Honda HRX217 and the number did correspond with the recall. I went online and Honda directed me to a local repair shop and it was repaired in 48 hours.
I have an HRN216 purchased in 2020. Has always started like crap, my 20 yr old Toro is a 1 to 2 pull starter even after sitting over the winter. I only run ethanol free fuel and change the oil every year. Unfortunately my Honda isn’t covered in this recall. I’d gladly give it back and get another TORO
Thanks for this. I subscribed a couple of months ago just to follow this issue. My year-old HRX217 almost broke my hand when the pull rope handle was ripped out of my hand. First thing tomorrow I'll be calling my Honda dealer.

@@averagejoevideo9556 UPDATE: I called the Honda dealer. He seemed unaware there was a recall or even a problem with these units. But he was not a service technician, so 🤷. Anyway, he said I could not "get in line" as the technicians want the mower there immediately when they're ready to work on the unit. They don't even like to wait 30 minutes for the customer to deliver the unit. So I would have to drop the mower off and he said it would probably take weeks to get to it. RED ALERT. This recall is suspicious. I've had my HRN216 since June 2022. Best mower I've ever had. It has worked flawlessly. Have any of these mowers actually failed? Has anyone actually been hurt by one of these mowers? The recall information is confusing. My mower serial number is within the range of recalled serial numbers. The recall notice states that not all serial numbers in the affected range are actually affected. The notice also lists the GVC-170 Engine serial number ranges that are affected and mine is not one of them. I called Honda and they say that if my mower is in the affected range it must be repaired and would not delve into the engine serial numbers. I suspect the CPSC is participating in the federal government's war on gasoline powered mowers. Is this an insidious scheme to force a Honda out of the lawnmower business by recalling 400,000 mowers that might possibly maybe cause an injury? Honda's cost to fix the mower surely wipes out the profit margin and it might even be more than the purchase price.
I personally experienced the problem with my unit. (Check out the other videos on my channel.). With that being said, fortunately I did not get injured but some other comments in the earlier videos confirm that people were injured. It is my understanding that Honda only pays a flat rate to shops that repair the issue. I don’t know that I would say that they will lose all profit on the repair. The repair rates are not that lucrative and the part is not that expensive for Honda when it’s mass produced. Again…just my thoughts on the issue. Keep in mind that Honda already planned to exit the gas lawn mower business in the US as of this year. This was prior to any stop sale or recall.
I’m in the same boat where mower serial number is in the affected range but engine serial number is not. I haven’t had any issues and I really don’t want some knucklehead tearing into the engine if it’s not necessary.
I’m a tech with a Deere dealer that sells Honda……..the recall involves running s/n in Honda data base and if it is suspect, performing inspection………it goes by date camshaft was manufactured….you have to to completely disassemble engine, removing piston cylinder and crankshaft, remove camshaft , flip camshaft over and decipher manufacturing date of camshaft….if before 07/23……replace camshaft…if after, just reassemble, kind of a time consuming project

Keep in mind that Honda already planned to exit the gas lawn mower business in the US as of this year. This was prior to any stop sale or recall.
The recall states over 2200 failures reported and 7 injuries, according to a reading of the recall on another mower channel.
I’m in the same boat where mower serial number is in the affected range but engine serial number is not. I haven’t had any issues and I really don’t want some knucklehead tearing into the engine if it’s not necessary.
@@M.A.T.T.A.L.I.A.N.OI share your thoughts EXACTLY … although I’m always mindful of the situation when starting the engine.
