Better than being on the streets. They are both safe and cared for so in my book that is still a happy ending for them.
Well looking at the footage of Francis at the other place running around with that white dog i'd say he moved on pretty comfortably.

Also, it's easy to forget that the average life expectancy for an American man in 1900 was 46; when the US was first colonized by Europeans, 40% of people didn't survive to adulthood. Also, anaesthetics weren't around until after the mid-1850s - and antibiotics weren't a thing until some time after WW1. Bummer living without those luxuries!

Seriously, what he did was good but then in the end these dogs were fine.. one can feed them, love them and even bring them up from far ,one doesn't always need to bring them home and seperate them.. yeah mostly yes but this bond was special.
Whoever left those two dogs should be put on an animal abuse list and banned from ever owning pets again.
I totally agree with you. People could learn a lot about true love and loyalty from dogs. I have 2 and both are just wonderful. I got my bulldog at 8 weeks old and she is almost 11. My lab mix showed up at about 6 months old and is now 2 years old. They both are just wonderful together. My heart really goes out to abandoned, lost, or stray dogs. I hope that these 2 dogs in this video can end up adopted together. They are such an example of true friendship.

Unfortunately, it's extremely hard to adopt 2 big dogs out together.... It's possible, but without a large social media presence, it's very difficult. The more good adopters they turn down, to try to keep them together, the less likely they'll find a home and less room there is for other dogs in need. Sad reality of rescuing

Just imagine if you where all by yourself in a world filled with strangers. Individuals who see these shadows of the forgotten will always have place in my heart.
Not only in a world filled with strangers but also without any money, hungry, unsheltered, no way to verbally communicate, and a good percentage of these strangers would just as soon run you over with their car than to brake. These stray animals have it way worse than people will ever imagine!! I see it first hand working with the feral/stray cats around my area. Everyone should take part in these efforts to help..

It's sad but it's very difficult to find homes for large dogs let alone two large dogs. Larger dogs require a lot of attention. Not everyone has the time to do that.

My dog 10 years ago was lost at the park and then my mum was worried looking everywhere, she got home and boom, the dog was right there. The dog would’ve walked for atleast a kilometre to get there.

Some people are just trash. I would sooner go hungry then let my own dog go without food or a home. Anyone who can toss away a dog or cat because they're financially or physically inconvenient is a waste of space. You want a pet, you endure and suffer for them if you must, to do any less means you're trash.

They see that living being as their property, their possession and something they have full control over. It is empowering. People who actually love animals see their dog or cat as living beings that are owed love and affection, not as things to be dominated like a little dictator. I expect nothing from my dog or cat, I give them unconditional love. The fact they return it to me is a bonus. I had a cat for 16 years I loved dearly, she only rarely was affectionate but I still loved the hell out of her. She was a gentle living being and was owed kindness. I did not expect affection from her, she rarely offered it and that was fine. We were good friends still.

Some people do it bc they have no alternative -- they've become homeless, and they can't afford the surrender fee to leave the dog at a shelter. Although their action is despicable, they aren't to be condemned -- they're trying to survive. Nobody in their right mind cried over that. These creatures are dogs, their memory and emotions work differently, as much as annoying people commenting here try to equate them with humans. Puppies being adopted out also do not face the same consequences emotionally as a human baby suddenly being taken from its mother.

It is! I follow their rescue now, that was amazing (A SafeFurr Place Animal Rescue). Others would have trapped her way sooner, he wanted her to learn to trust first.

That really isn't necessarily so. Dogs aren't people. Francis needed Howard when he was scared and reluctant to trust people. We don't know what had happened to him but it's safe to bet it probably wasn't good. Once he has gained some confidence and learnt that some people can be trusted he will learn to be happy even if that's with another family and maybe another dog.
I think dogs are more resilient than we sometimes realize, as long as they have love and care and a home.

Ikr and with most rescues over 1 dog they will keep them together if one is more obedient/trained because they learn from each other faster with the help of a human rather than just with a human. Weird but I'm glad two of them are safe and fed at least lol.

God damnit! The only thing that mattered to Francis is his friend Howard given the lengths he took to track him down to not be separated. So disappointed they were inevitably separated for their entire lifetimes despite the Better lives they may live now, we don’t know how much they truly cared for each other.

Such fine dogs! I can't wrap my mind around the mentality of someone who abandons a dog that's obviously a well socialized pet. Most dog owners love their dogs and have a real bond with them, and they feel like a family member. Who just leaves that behind?
Francis looks just like a wonderful dog I had for 13 years. Seeing him makes me miss my boy so much!
I get that everyone's upset about the separation but this is still a happy ending in the world of strays. There is a lot of suffering out there -- and there are too many people buying dogs from breeders, still. If it makes you sad, rescue two pets who are buddies -- today!
Hear hear! It's easy to say they should've been kept together. It's hard getting a large dog a home never mind a pair of them! Everyone here who's saying how sad it is they got separated, they're not being realistic. The dogs have a chance now they're one dog and once they get their forever homes, they'll be fulfilled. Life's tough for big unwanted dogs. I'm sure that guy would've kept them together IF it was possible.
Bakersfield is the only place I 've ever lived that has so many stray dogs! Bless you for trying!
