- Reliability is perhaps the most defining factor when it comes to cars in general. These are high-value assets, after all, so no consumer would want a vehicle that suddenly breaks after 5 years (or less) of ownership. What is interesting to know is that many not-so-impressive cars out there can outlast 100,000 miles, as long as they are properly and routinely maintained.
However, there are just exceptions that set the bar so low. Take the SUVs I listed here as an example.

I got a 2013 VW Passat with 218,000 miles on it. only major repair was right axle from the pothole and A/C. The compressor went out at 217,000 miles.
I've had 2 VW's in my day. The Mechanic and I had joint custody.
??? I have a 2019 Jetta with nearly 100k miles. The only thing that I had go wrong with it was an oil pan replacement that was done under warranty. The maintenance, while not cheap, is all you need to do to it. Make sure to get frequent oil changes. That’s about it.
Agreed, never had any issues with my Golfs.
Exactly, no 10,000 mile oil changes. 5-6k mile intervals... change the transmission fluid every 50,000 miles or so. Get the spark plugs done based on time like every 4 years, or every 60,000 MI. Keep up on the air filter changing and use injector cleaner every now and then
This video basically says that VW has inconsitent reliability and that is the truth. Many people have problems with them some people do not it all depends on luck and what model year you buy.
Jetta’s are very reliable. The 2.0t is a great engine but the least reliable. The 1.4t Jetta is bulletproof.
The 2.0T is definitely not the easiest to take care of. Will require a lot more preventative maintenance as they’re prone to oil burning and leaking. The main seal on the engine needs to be replaced preventatively, the oil needs to be changed often, the water pump, PCV valve, ignition coils and timing chain will need to be replaced no later than 100k miles. So they’re reliable if someone puts the time into the preventative maintenance. Lots of people don’t.
@BabyBugBug agreed, that’s why you can get most Volkswagens and Audi's that have the 2.0T for super cheap, people are scared, don’t forget the timing chain LMAO. They are great engines myself I have a 2.5 Jetta, which in my opinion is one of their most reliable.
@@nicholasbabeaux2052Man I wish I had the 2.5L 5 cylinder. That is one of their best engines. Amazing sound, especially for what is an economy car.
@@BabyBugBug oh yeah if you put any aftermarket exhaust or even straight pipe it it sounds like a super car…kinda. if you do a stage one or stage two tune, you can unlock some of the potential👌💯
That’s my problem J.D. Power & Consumer Report has turn out to be publicity agency’s, pay by the Car Industry, I don’t trust much of what they say. I do my research in others way watching mechanics with experience and respectable small owner dealers.
Nissan / Infinity owed by Renault .. there is the issue
