I love a treasure hunt. This year I lost a couple of hard lures in pond side brush and trees (failure casts, trying to cut it too close). After leaf fall I went back to find my lures. I didn't find mine but I found other top waters and crank baits to more than make up for the ones I lost; some were rather expensive and in good shape. Evidently, I was losing lures where others did also. Unfortunately, they don't lower the waters in the reservoirs I fish until they cut off the fishing access. Also, try taking pictures of structure when the water is down with reference points in the background. They last longer and are more accurate than memory. This video was great. Thank you. I agree, there is more to fishing than catching fish!
Oh man, now I am fascinated to see what was at the end of that orange string. It looks like the kind of string people use to magnet fish. Damn. This was fun to watch. When you put on your new glasses I was half expecting a Bro Manson appearance, lol. So far, the craziest thing I've found was in my second video and it was a fully in tact glass bong about half the size of my wife, haha!
Recently all I have to show for a day’s fishing has been other people’s lures. A few are keepers, but I always learn something regardless. Thanks for confirming this, Alex.
My Pop always said that you can't judge success without failures. Without failure, you can't learn how to make corrections and try again. If you're afraid of failure, you're afraid to live. I like your analogy Alex. Fishing isn't all easy street. You have to go through the school of hard knocks to really learn the ropes.
Reminds me of a book my dad gave me when I was a child, it was titled "True Fishermen Tales", it was ~100 blank pages. Its impossible to learn without failure, and mistakes. Thanks for the reminder!
About 60 years ago, lake Umbagog, which straddles the Maine-New Hampshire border, was drawn way down for dam repairs. You could see all the features of the pastures that had been flooded, when the impoundment filled. I knew a couple of teenagers who lived on the lake. They spent the whole summer barefoot in the mud searching the shores collecting lures. They made quite a bit of money selling the lures after they cleaned them up. They couldn't have searched the entire shore; it's a very large impoundment.
Awesome video as always! I thoroughly enjoyed tagging along your lure hunt. That crayfish 'shell' was pretty cool as i've never seen one. My first thought was you pitching around a famous 'Realistic Fishing Texas rig Craw' lol. That begs the question, do you have a preferred soft plastic craw? I've seen you fish quite a few!! Thanks Alex, love the channel!
Awesome find if you can clean the lures up you could possible melt them down and make your own lures. There are some videos on the youtubes th have guys making there own soft plastic lures from ripped, torn, old lures. Just an idea.
I went to the local Meijer and in the fishing dept and they had killer markdowns on gulp jars that normally run $10 priced at $1. They also had yamamoto senkos for $1.25 a bag and .75c berkley fusion ewg hook pks. I'd look for the same if there are Meijer stores around you.
Found a pitchfork this year in one of my favorite bass ponds. My lipless crank is still up in a tree, right where I left it. The red and white bobbers in the trees look like Xmas ornaments. People seem to use bigger lures and heavier line than is necessary.
Wow the water receded A LOT! and that mysterious orange cord... I would have searched those banks until darkness set in. I could have watched you find all kinds of things for HOURS! Surprisingly interesting video!! I hope you'll take pictures of the banks and shores, and show us a comparison with a summer view from the same angle...
My Dads Late Uncle as a kid in the late 40's - 50's he use wade out and put old bed sheets under the rocks and tie a main line to it and hide it on shore. Only way he could get hooks to fish with. When you pulled up that rope made me Smile lol. Miss you Joe☆
Really enjoyed this show. I'm always exploring everywhere around my pond, especially when the water is way down. I've actually mapped the various structures and topology. I have been considering getting an inexpensive drone with a camera. If the camera is equipped with a polarized lens, I should be able to see much more of any deep water structure. There was an old dock that had broken loose, become waterlogged, and sank years ago. With the water way down, the fish were really congregating around the structure that dock provided. Now, I have a fine place to catch crappie that I had not known about prior to the pond dropping four to five feet. A friend of mine and I spent nearly a whole day pulling out a old tarp that had covered a tractor trailer rig which hauled gravel. It was full of silt. We finally had to use my small tractor with a 2500 pound winch and keep tension on a 50 foot, heavy nylon rope to slowly brake the tarp loose from the bottom and we finally got it dragged to shore. It had part of a fish trap, a life vest, and parts of a ice chest tangled in it. What a mess. We were elated to get that trash out of the pond. I'm forever pulling line, fishing lures, and other trash out of the pond and surrounding trees, even though very few people are allowed to fish there. Bottles and cans are always washing in from upstream properties. Most of the trash comes from people sneaking across private property to fish in the pond. Keeping any body of water free of trash is always difficult and pretty much a full-time job.
More people need to do this! I went lure hunting about 10 times last summer and got 500$+ in crankbaits, jerkbaits, softplastics, spinner baits, topwater lures, jigs, hooks, and sinkers. It’s easy, fun, and you can get a lot stuff. I literally never will buy a hardbait again.
Lots of people go fishing when the walleye run comes through, and some of them aren’t the brightest (like using overhand knots to tie on their baits, and people using 15-20 foot diving crankbaits in 4-5 feet of water).
It’s also SOOOOOOO much easier to find stuff in a river. That’s where I found 90% of that stuff. Things tend to congregate together at specific choke points and snags, more so than a lake.
Those sunglasses cleaned up really well! Soft plastics sure look gruesome when they become bloated. It's a good idea to take a photo of the lake that low from the perspective of where you'll fish from when the water level gets back to normal, it will give an even better recollection of the structure below the water level.
I like finding lures at fishing spots. I have found some expensive ones like yozuri crystal minnows, running around 15$. Also found some perfectly usable inline spinners, and sometimes worms hanging in trees. One time years ago, I found a worm and hook in a tree, rigged it on my rod, and caught some bass on it! That chartreuse skirt looks like it can still be used. I found a brown/pumpkin skirted football jig with the hook broken off, at a place, and I clip some of the skirt to dress lures I build sometimes. Sometimes I'll take torn plastics I find, and cut them into small slivers to rig on small jigs. Also a take a torn senko you find, clip the torn end off and use the untorn other half for a ned rig.
Love lure hunting. I’ve been going to a lake in the sierras that is affected seasonally and by California’s droughts. A big lake turns into a puddle. Over the years I’ve probably found 100 sets of trolling flashers alone. If you don’t mind changing rusty hooks it’s a gold mine
I don't know why but that was one of the most interesting videos I've watched in a while. Always enjoy your content and love that you make an effort for the environment. Keep it up!
Just bought a house today, While doing a walk through I found a Fishing lure in the closet. I'll take it as a good omen, especially if I catch a fish with it lol
I find those lighted bobber halves all the time, lol. I can not believe how swollen and waterlogged some of those soft plastics are. Craziness! Take care man!!
I'm absolutely certain those were my glasses. That's exactly where I lost them about 2015. I remember almost falling out of the boat trying to catch them. No go! I'll text you a photo.
It hurst the most when you hook a fish, then get snagged in some weeds and lose the fish and the lure lol, like you said, thats fishing and thats realistic, great video
Ha! I'm the same way when the fishing is not great I go on lure hunts. Or take a kroger bag and clean up all the crap that cat fishermen leave. You should have a lure challenge and fish with all the crap you found! Great video. Failure. Realistic. Yep.
I believe the disk you found was from a leftover fireworks display. You light it and it spins as it goes up in the air several hundred feet and obviously lands in the pond.
Lure and tackle hunting is always fun! ... LMAO "all these guys caught the bottom.."" LOL!!! "Pile of shattered dreams.." LMAO! It would have been cool to see you got lure hunting at the "lucky, unlucky spot". Love your channel, and yes Realistic is acknowledging failure.... Nice job cleaning up some of that mess. You didn't find anything usable but hey at least you don't have to worry about getting snagged on that line you picked up. Plus it probably helps to see where you fish when the water is low like that. 👊👍

I would have expected more inline spinners. As a beginner, I love them because they are easy to tie on and fun to fish. After losing about $15 worth of them, I finally realized maybe it's time to try something else....

“Failure, failure, failure, disappointment, disappointment”. Classic realistic fishing. Made me laugh. Thanks for keeping it realistic. Good one.
Thanks for watching Saiga

it's neat to see the structure you were fishing. gives you a better idea of where to fish when the water comes back up
One of the benefits of exploring low water 👍

Glad you made the long trip to the new lake. Cool to see what it looks like when the water is low. I fished this park in late May.
I caught a few over there, buts its been a while

Yea, check Berkley's site too. Normally order all my Gulp! Alive stuff this time of year when they clearance it.
this is the best fishing show on youtube you tell the ins and out of fishing keep it realistic my friend
Brilliant little video, thanks. I love scavenging for stuff and then catching something on it.

Braids snaps on rocks like nothing 👍
"My lipless crank is still up in a tree, right where I left it." Love this lol
Nice change of pace. Good luck with your fishing adventures 👍🏻
Wow 😲 that was a lot of lures you got just walking around. “The 30lb braid couldn’t move a 7lb rock 😂” definitely learning. Great video 👍
There was a lot of braid out there. So far it seems week around the rocks.
Wow the water receded A LOT! and that mysterious orange cord... I would have searched those banks until darkness set in. I could have watched you find all kinds of things for HOURS! It was interesting seeing the water so low, and a few lures made it worth while. 👍
@@RealisticFishing All in all a good day, even with zero fish (that NEVER happens!)
This is a great premise for a vid. Nice job making the best of it. Always entertaining.
Yep, when TVA drops the levels here i usually rack up on some decent stuff. Our levels here are back up a bit for now, but very short term.
Not much good stuff this time 😆
@@RealisticFishing lol yep, turns out fishing for lures is just like fishing for the fish they catch.

😅 Thats wild. I would have given him some hooks.
This video got real dark real quick. But I guess reality can be pretty dark. Great video! Pretty curious about that Chinese ashtray thing.
I was today years old when I found out soft plastics would swell up like that when left in the water.
I love it. Great videos man. Way to keep it.. REALTISTIC.:)
Thanks Matthew
I really enjoyed that video man. Very interesting to see what others fish with and finding a graveyard of fishermen’s struggles. 👍🏼
I was reaping their dashed dreams 😀
The struggle is what keeps it Realistic for me as well. Failure is ALWAYS an option when fishing.
Its the default option 👍

Cleaning up a bit, and finding interesting things and ideas. Awesome 👍👍
Thats right 👍
Hilarious, Alex. You are now either my favorite fishing archeologist or anthropologist - not sure which, but then you are beyond being categorized. 👍😉
That's some good finds. I found some crank baits last few times I went out while water was low but not made a haul like that.
Were they usable?

I learned a lot from that too. Like, why weren't they using a square bill crank to bounce off all those rocks? I would have.
Because they would be losing $5 baits instead of 15 cent baits.
If you hear drums playing out of nowhere it probably jumanji. Hahahaha
