Great video! We need more dads like you actually spending time with the kiddos. What I love most is how we can tell you genuinely love those guys. What a great memory y'all have created for those times when you're out fishing those BPT tournaments. I know you're gonna miss the fam immensely. Good luck this year. Here's wishing you a great year. You deserve it.
Score! This was one of the most enjoyable fishing videos I’ve seen recently. I find lures at our small lake…they’re almost always mine😂 Did find a working deeper sonar ball floating in some debris on the edge at a large public lake.
Good memories! My dad used to have one of the old extended crappie poles rigged up with heavy line and "hook" on the end in the boat at all times. We used it to retrieve lures from trees while fishing. We had to have recovered thousands of lures, bobbers, hooks and line over the years. I think he still has 4 or 5 old fish baskets hanging in his basement packed with all the treasures. Also a good way to get some of that stuff out of the environment, especially the line people leave when breaking off!
@@insertname941 it was a telescoping fiberglass fishing pole that was used similar to a cane pole. I’m not sure they were designed specifically for crappie fishing?? That is what we originally used it for though. I’d say it telescoped out to around 10’.
Aw, tell the truth Matt. You brought your boys because their little hands can get into the spaces between the rip rap better. 😁 It's fun for me to see Hank & Duke growing up. Thanks for the family video.
The essence of shore fishing. Sometimes I go sinker hunting. In every sport fishing, this is fun and exciting. I was fishing a rock face. They had released the water drastically. I saw a white plastic lure with a Jalin's jighead. I said, "This must be the secret." It was winterizing and it was difficult on that pressured rock face. I go to use it. Started catching bass and a big pike minnow right off the bat. The secret really do find you at the highest level. Also on that rock face I saw a bunch of crappie jigs, but these elites are not targeting crappies so the secrets just kept feeding my elitest skills. They was hovering before hover became a thing and I knew that without having fished it vigor.
That was fun, reminds me of my little brother and I back in the early 70's doing that at Table Rock. Bombers, Hellbenders, waterdogs, Balsa B's, Beatles spins, mudbugs, red devil spoons, and bobbers galore back then.
They will remember this down the road and they will share with other people what you have done with them. Boy your wife is going to get a ear full when they see her💯💯💯💯💯👍🏾
Cool adventure, it's great to see you out with the boys enjoying the "warm" weather. The wind around the Chesapeake was miserable today, too chilly for my taste. Happy New Year to you and your family!
That's awesome! You can't beat time outdoors with the boys. I will say I found a Choppo 90, ghost color last spring. And I've caught more Bass on that Choppo in the last season and a half than any other bait. It's been my lucky go to when I need a fish
Hang the paddle horizontal on the wall with the boys name’s on it. Each time out put their lure fines & bobbers on it. It’s some thing they will “never” forget …. The fun times with dad.
You can never have to many of those Square A's. I remember when they first hit the market before the square bills really took off and became what they are today. I was fishing a creek channel full of stumps with really off colored water so I tied on a Square A in Fire Tiger. I had never caught a double digit in my life but caught 2 in less than 2 hours to anchor a 34 pound limit. I still have that same bait and wrote the date on the bottom of it and retired it.
Matt, Love seeing you and the boys hanging out, picking lures! Those boys will be doing this some day with their kids! When the boys get older, I used to snorkle and find lures here in California. You guys may need wet suits there but it is a lot of fun too! Beautiful family Matt! John McHatton
@@MattStefanFishingthey snorkel in devils lake, green lake, and redgranate quarry a lot from what ive seen but otherwise i dont see a lot of ppl going down in other clear lakes to do that in this stare. Would be super fun, and help clean up the litter and potentially clean up dangerous rusty hooks.
That flicker shad have you ever caught anything with them I found a back at the gas station one night it had 4 of the bigger ones and 2 small ones and I have never used one.
Interesting to see there are no hooks on them. I wonder how long it takes for the hooks to rust off. I may have to put my birding aside one day to go lure hunting in the riprap.
Yeah this is some stupid weather, ain't it!?! The week before Christmas it warmed into the upper 40's with rain, melted everything. Now it struggles to get to a high of 36. I guess it could be worse, I've had years where the pack ice was above the curb. My off seasons I'd walk the banks doing just what the boys and you are doing. I've made keychain fabs and such with some of them, some you can clean-up and return to service. Even weights & jigs can be melted down and poured for spinner baits. Cleaning up the environment and tinkering with some utilitarian stuff. Driftwood even! My work bench drawers pull handles are old junkyard wrenches out in the garage.
That’ll get you snake bit here in Texas. I have a huge rock pile spillway on my pond that I dug up with my backhoe when I planted my pecan orchard. Every winter the copperheads get in it for warmth and a rat and mice buffet. I’ve seen the biggest copperheads I’ve ever seen in my life in there. I guess it’s safe in your area.
The only snakes we have here that are dangerous are timber rattlers and massasauga rattlers and you rarely see them. In fact in the last 12 yrs weve never gotten any recorded bites, i know the 1 guy who got bit 12 yrs ago and he installs pools so u can imagine what kinda shit hes doing to piss off the danger noodles
Really cool man i like taking my little nephews out bait hunting... they get so excited about finding one but they make me a little nervous when they start trying to yank stuff out of trees or cracks in the rock. We can only do stuff like this in the summer down here so theyre looking for bsits and i spend my time looking for wasp nest and snakes... LOL
I found a broken strikebill similar to what found at the start, missing half the bill. Caught a ton more fish with that one than the new one i bought when it broke off
Well it finally went below 32 and the lakes r freezing so were finally into normal temps round here🤣 the pike bite below 40 is INSANE though. I had em coming out from the little ice that was left to chase massive crankbaits in open water
If my wife saw a video of my kids and myself walking on that rock she would kick me in the sack. My son has a history of cracking his head open. Lol Treasure hunting is always fun though.
Found me a wallet with ID, bank card and cash that was lost by a jet skier the weekend before. Tracked the boy down on FB and re-united all with owner.
You weren’t just treasure hunting, you were hunting with your treasures!! Awesome video, Love it!!!
it was a good time!
Warms my Heart Matt watching you and your Son’s hang out and spend special time together. Looks like you are a amazing Dad!
I like to get the outside
A day like that with the boys is the best catch you will ever have!
Agreed
It is really refreshing to see you spend time with your boys. Thank you for all that you share with us
Glad you enjoy it!
That's a great time together with the boys, very adventurous & good exercise, plus finding some hidden gems! 👍
lots of fun!
Father and son time, I miss it. My boys are grown and with kids of their own. Great memories being made there.
Yep!
Always enjoy when the boys are in the vids!
thanks!
Being a good dad: spending time with the boys, teaching and sharing something you love. Looked fun and treacherous!!
Yes it was!
What fun! Those are memories that no one will ever forget.
we had a good time!
Great memories for the kids and dad! Look forward to seeing them all cleaned up and mounted on the canoe paddle in the basement!

hahaha Will do!
This winter was wierd with barely any snow, I enjoy whating your kids have fun
Thanks
The old man sounded like he was a little winded 😅 you guys should also collect some of the driftwood. Any taxidermist can use it for mounts.
Picking drift wood is illegal in WI.
it was tough walking on those rocks haha
@paulconder26 I would have never thought that would be illegal. You learn something new every day.
