    I went the LumaFusion route for editing on the iPad and the biggest frustration I had was exactly what you touched on…the snapping. There just isn’t the precision of the mouse like on my desktop. Happy to say I’m back on the laptop thanks to this super awesome generous human…you probably know him 😂 It’s been clutch since I’m doing much more editing and delivery on the road. Much love bro, always enjoy your content!

    Just discovered your channel today and I’ve already found it hugely helpful. I’ve been a primarily stills photographer up to now and switched from Nikon to Fuji a few years ago. Now I’m getting into video, teaching myself DaVinci and just got an XH2, which I chose over the S because I wanted more resolution for stills. I’m really enjoying all your videos and find that you’re on a similar wavelength to me in the way you approach things. Thank you so much for putting all this out there!

    Appreciate you putting this together. I’ve always wondered if the larger iPad Pro could replace my laptop - and after this it’s still not there for me. I think the most i would do is client photo editing using Lightroom. But for video editing outside of quick LumaFusion pieces. To me the workarounds aren’t worth it. I feel you on the redundancy of having a Mac Studio and MBP - but i see it as a strength as i have duplicate workflows it’s all plug and play using affordable SSD and quickly move between studio and on the go.
    I tried the the 12.9 iPad on two different occasions and it always felt cumbersome to bring around for such limited capabilities and hacks to get things working. I added the iPad Mini this year to be my productivity and notebook tool. It’s ultra portable and using it on set to organize shoots is great. Great for having something on me to get ideas out and using lightweight tools for creation and running my business.

    very insightful video! it’s amazing that resolve came to ipad finally haha i’ve been considering using it for editing on the go and this really gave me a good idea of how useful it could be for myself. it can only get better from here as it gets improved on in the future! thanks for making this video, Joshua!

    I just got an iPad recently for things like lighting plans, writing emails, editing photos and overall smaller tasks. But as I dig deeper and after seeing this video I’m starting to think maybe this could be my laptop replacement. It’s amazing to see how far the iPad has come and how other creators are incorporating into their workflows. Thanks for your perspective and great video!

    I'm weighing a similar move. Small videos are fun to produce on my iPad air. The experience is more inspirational like you mentioned. I MBP at home is really just set up like a desktop and I'm weighing the switch to a Studio because I have one at work that I'll sometimes use and even though my MBP is spec'd out, it still chuggs sometimes compared to the Studio when I'm editing 4 angle multicam clips and stuff for our podcast. Great breakdown in your video, thanks!

    Thank you very much. I am a beginner. What I am using now is the iMovie on iPhone Pro Max. Too limited for me in terms of choice of toolsd and screen size, and I am trying to decide between Macbook Air and iPad Pro as a main machine for VE. What really frustrates me in the iMovie is the lack of preciceness and slowing down the workflow because of this. I had no experience to work in editing programs with mouse, but i guess i will have this accuracy. And your descreiption how the pencil behaves helped me a lot. So I am now more inclined to having the laptop.

    Joshua, I’ve been eagerly awaiting this video. Guess I missed when it dropped but it’s excellent. Thanks so much for walking through your take and workflow. You deserve a new chair!
    Based on your closing thoughts why not the iPad and the laptop and scrap the desktop setup? I love editing at coffee shops or moving around the house and feel the power of even the M1 14 MBP is plenty for an all around solution.

    i love that Davinci came out on the ipad pro, i used to be a FCPX editor when i had a MBP but when my MBP started to slow down i switched to the iPad M1 and started editing on Lumafusion, i loved it and missed some stuff, i still go back to Luma even tho Davinci is alot better, BUT its so confusing haha im just hoping so i'll stick to Luma since it does what i need the only thing i need that Luma doesnt have is a better way to color grade and more plugins.

  • @CastaneArias

    honestly this has been my mindset for a very long time now. I've been really been considering using an iPad pro for mobile and a desktop for my home work station. Then remote into my desktop through the iPad for anything that may require a desktop experience

    • @CastaneArias
      @CastaneArias ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Let's also add the fact, when you buy a laptop. As expensive as they can be they don't last long. Whether it's Mac or Windows. You also run the risk of more items going wrong and breaking them. So I do have a desire to be mobile but in the back of my mind, I always think about how this laptop will break. Whether it's the charger, keyboard, or monitor.
      i know I can fix these items myself but part of me would much rather pay for apple care, get all these items fixed and have a beast desktop at home

    Just got mine in the mail today. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxhcEDB3r-OJ3_X5hQzr7k1ZofTQy1ao_U The corners of the box was a little smashed but I think that’s more of the shipping’s fault. iPad was in perfect condition though. I ordered the yellow one thinking it was going to be a bright vibrant color. Instead I looks like more of a Gold color. I personally prefer the gold look. Definitely not disappointed but just a heads up to the ones expecting a brighter cream of yellow.

    I seen someone else reference this video. But it looks super solid, I’m looking more for photography needs I’m pretty novice and not really videography but I just don’t see a lot of content for people using it for that. I don’t know if it’s photoshop isn’t as developed or what but regardless I’m still strongly considering it

    I do not recommend editing on the ipad at all, unless you’re on the road or have a really bad pc. It’s not stable at all and keeps crashing on my M2 ipad pro. Hopefully we’ll able to do it in the future.

  • @Kaze919
    @Kaze919 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    It’s crazy to think that DaVinci and LumaFusion are better editors than apple has natively for their ‘pro’ iPad. I just got into video editing for work and since it’s not my primary thing my thought process was that going to FCP would be a faster way for me to get up to speed. I would love to be able to travel with just an iPad instead of bringing my laptop everywhere and be able to do everything. I feel like the iPad still isnt there yet with the file browser but it’s on its way.
    Great video as always.

    A lot of the hurdle to use a touch-based/tablet/iOS over a desktop or laptop is a mental hurdle & relearning all those little things you're so used to doing keyboard shortcuts. If you can get past that you definitely open up a world of possibilities for more flexible editing solutions.
    I've always been a Windows guy but Apple suckered me in finally with the M1. The iPad is fantastic for culling photos and what got me over the line was tethering on the go without needing to bring another tripod etc. Quite surprised with how good Files is to access networked drives, NAS but the limitations in video apps are still a little too high for me to get around but can definitely see it being a mobile cutting device & color monitoring

    Ive been debating on getting a M2 Mac Mini + M2 IPad Pro combo for 1080p video editing
    I plan to use both for editing but I want to use my IPad Pro for gaming and media consumption as well. Should I spend more for the 1TB 16GB IPad Pro or use that money to go for the base M2 Pro Mac Mini
    Regardless I am getting both of them, its just a matter of specs.
