14:27 If anyone is curious why this is, ash is an incredible fertilizer, you're basically rendering down wood into a mineral rich powder. It can enrich soil with trace elements that otherwise may be deficient, like copper, potassium, boron, or zinc.
Wood ash also changes the PH of the soil from acidic to alkaline. Wood ash was also used to make soap by running water through it and making something called Lye. Lye + animal fat = soap.
@@tidalgruntbig forests fires every week is not good. Because at one point nothing will be able to grow because the soil no longer has trees to hold it firm and weather does its thing.
@tidalgrunt6549 Yeah but there's some forests that never experience forest fires like old growth forests where plants thrive due to the longevity of the ecosystem
Fun fact; serfs did indeed eat raw flour, but just with an extra step, its called Hardtack. Literally just flour and water and baked next to a fire place. Hardtack is still made today, particularly as a military food subsidy.
many would make their own bread, likewise many were paid in flour and brought it to the town baker. the hard tack works in a pinch, but you dont need to make it so HARD, if you are cooking to eat it right then.
@@RayPoreon true, I misspoke as I dont think anyone truly would just bare fist the shit into their mouths. I meant it more as like a "this shit is legit just flour" . I also agree with what @edwxx20001 said with serfs making bread
I'm honestly consistently blown away at how far games like this have come. Like, even Age of Empires has grown to include Total War-like combat, RimWorld itself is constantly becoming something even cooler with each DLC, and now basically full control over the circumstances of your kingdom including economic manipulation? Once someone figures out how to get games like this to run optimally with dozens of units working simultaneously, it's gonna get even more bonkers. Imagine RimWorld fights with 50 guys on each side of a raid and it's NOT a slideshow! It would be amazing(ly painful to micromanage, but still awesome)
Burning farmland is actually very good for the land. You remove pest and unwanted grass and creat fertilisers for the soil. Yeah it can be dangerous (like setting fire to thinks you realy don’t want burning) but if controled is quite good.
FUn fact: Rutabaga (kålrot) is a swedish root vegetable and got its name from when other people came here. They spoke to inhabitants that had a strong accent and called them "rotabagge". The inhabitants were from a part of Sweden called Västergötland.
Looks cool, the art style made me think it would just be a RimWorld clone but there's actually a lot more to it, looks very interesting. Like RimWorld meets Crusader Kings.
Burning wood and other grasses and such is a good way to reintroduce nutrients into the soil, balance ph, ect. We burn our wild prairie fields every few years which simulates how the prairies would have been. It kills off invasive grasses that aren’t used to fire and incentivizes native seeds to sprout which can survive the heat. It helps rebuild top soil very slowly as the fields used to be farmed and had been eroded down to dense packed clay. It also keeps trees and bushes from growing up making sure it stays grassland. The wild flower population has absolutely exploded this year with all the extra rain so the fields are absolutely beautiful and we have our first Turkey and quail nests since we got the property 22 years ago!
The raw flour thing is because for serfs and other lower classes outside of cities they made their own bread. Bakers were a city thing because of the higher density of richer people.
Burning wood on the farmland is a legitimate practice. The charcoal from the wood mixes into the topsoil, and provides nutrients to the soil, making the next crop grow better.
Know what would be a fun idea for Rimworld or Norland? Trying to maintain a Bretonnia-based society. The peasants live terribly and nobles live in luxury. It would be fun trying to maintain dozens of peasants on the verge of a breakdown every second.
people would eat brown bread during the middle age's, but whenever there was a famine, evrything would be put into the mill. so rock's, animal's, just evrything they could find, they got more money per pound. so when white bread became widly available, people would like it more, eassyer to pick out bad stuff.

Rimworld, but medieval, war crimes are zero since Geneva doesn’t exist yet.
Geneva was a town even before the Roman conqests, so...
Geneva definitely exists, the conventions not so much
As if RimWorld players gave a shit about Geneva Convention
as a skaven lover, yessir
Whats Geneva ? 😮

Yep, that's also the reason why after a forest fire the nature grows back faster (still, big forest Fire isn't a good thing ) .
@@Sir-Pleiades Pretty sure big forest fires are explicitly needed for at least a few plants to properly grow.

The good part is, unemployment is down to zero! But the bad part…
Oh, living conditions? We don't track them.
Oh don't worry, we needed the food anyway.
